Same gear you'd get for a road bike, most protective gear for street legal bikes tends to come down to which aesthetic you like.

Helmet, boots, and gloves are an ABSOLUTE priority, but make sure you get pants and a jacket as well.

fuck that, you can get 2 sets of chinese fairings for that price.
>>

those ones that attach to the subframe look like a really bad idea. They'll put all the impact directly on one spot on your subframe if you crash instead of just falling over on the side and maybe damaging the fairing.

I think that's pretty much what all cages/sliders do anyway. They don't do much except protect the plastics, at the expense of the actual important bits. Just put chink fairings on it really cheap if you're worried about damaging the OEM ones

why would you want that on a dirtbike

>pic related

the worst piece of shit I've ever seen, has the engine from a cbr250r put into the worst spagehtti steel frame ever (no it's not aluminium that's box section steel), it weighs a huge amount for a dirtbike and has no power.

I don't know why /dbt/ is fucking obsessed with this shitheap of a bike so I have to tell this story all the time but I saw one drop a wheelie and the footpegs are actually stronger than the frame so it BENT THE FRAME INWARDS where it had been dropped, I was stunned that this happened so he showed me the other side where that had already happened on the other side.

If you google CRF250L bent frame you will see numerous forum posts about this, usually with the owners pretending it's not a big deal for some reason but legally, the frame is the bike and you do NOT want it getting damaged.
>>
>>16803711

ABS would have saved you though soon as you're a retard and locked the rear brake mid corner.
>>
>>16803711
ABS is a shitty thing, that shit doesn't work on dirt anyway.

Learn how to use your brakes like a regular person.

That particular Honda is junk, it's a street bike with slightly more upright seating and longer suspension, it's not a dual sport at all.

Even a KLX250S would be a big improvement.
>>
>>16803711
Don't get abs on a dirt bike wtf, besides CRF250L a shit. Get a 1996-2004 XR250R/L or custom build a CRF230F.

Depends. If you get a Motocross bike then yes, you have to do stuff like oil every few hours and top ends every 50-75 hours in my experience. But if you get a true enduro or trail bike (ex. the CRF230F is probably the most reliable dirt bike ever made) then maintenance is much less often. I rode an XR250R 10 miles to and from high school every day my senior year and around to local trails, and it chugged on and on for 3 or 4 years before I even thought to change the oil. And it wasn't even that bad inside when I got around to it.

ABS a shit on dualsports, speaking through personal experience. And I've ridden many dualsports. KLX250S, XR250R conversion, CRF230L, CRF250L ABS, all kinds of bikes that were and weren't mine. The ABS seriously doesn't do much, you won't be doing stuff that could even require ABS on a DS, it's not worth it.

Suzuki DR650. Too heavy for riding the real small and twisty trails, but it can manage on more open ones and off the road in general. Can also cruise at 70-80mph with no problem and has a top indicated speed of 120- I've done about 115 indicated on mine (but on a dual sport that gets fucking spooky)

It's also tough and reliable as a tractor. Power is manageable and there is plenty to be had for highway riding and long distance touring. Cheap, too. Large aftermarket

I guess a DR650 or a built WR450F with EFI then, or if you want to go cheap and build your own probably a Yamaha TTR 230, but that's only if you want to build your own.
Kawasaki KLX250S is quite good and so is a built Honda CRF450X. The CRF450X is mean and I love it, I had one back when I did hard enduro and it was a complete beast that could stand up to anything.

You stupid cunt.

If ABS kicks in, it's because you've already gone past the threshold of your tyres grip. So if you're as fucking good of a rider as all you non-abs nobike faggots claim to be then having ABS on your bike wouldn't even be noticeable.

However, being a rational person who knows that shit can and does happen, I will opt for ABS on all of my bikes. If I never need it then good, however given the choice between having it and not needing it and needing it and not having it I know which one I'll take.

I'd rather have some wanker on 4chan think I'm a pussy then be dead or in a wheelchair.

Because there are times where you want to lock up the brakes. Are you mentally handicapped? Plenty of riders want the rear wheel to lift or slide.

>ABS modulates your braking pressure

Yes, it does so AFTER you've exceeded the grip threshold of the tyres. Which can and does happen to the best riders in the world.

Why do you wear a helmet if you're such a good rider? You should be able to avoid all accidents all the time.

954RR is the quintessential big bore street sportbike of the era.
Small/compact, light, comfortable, fueling of the gods, good brakes, good chassis and suspension, usable power, frieght train running down hill tier reliability, etc.

Sure the GSXR1000 made a tiny bit more power. But was a much less liveable and comfortable bike on the street. It was also heavier

The R1 made less power and was heavier, had worse throttle response/fueling, and had worse suspension.

ZX9R made significantly less power than the 954RR and had shittier suspension and shit reliability.

Today the 954RR stackes up well against modern cheater 600's and the gixxer 750. it doesn't have the power literbikes started making after around 2004 or so, but really it has enough power to get anyone in trouble in a hurry.

Tadao Baba produced a perfect bike.

/dbt/ im finaly wanting to upgrade to a big boy bike, currently own a vfr800 and looking to upgrade to a liter. Is this even worth it? because i dont plan on track riding, ust long trips and hitting the touge.

>>
>>16805113
>Is this even worth it?
Probably not unless you are the type that has to scare the piss out of yourself every time you crack the throttle open significantly.

Really the power of a literbikes is largely wasted if you're not taking it to the track unless you plan on doing freeway pulls or something.

>>16805100

bikes are super cheap, your first bike is never your last bike.

You can always trade up or down, so don't feel too invested.

600cc class bikes that don't conform to the 600cc limitations imposed by a racing class.

The Ninja 636 or Daytona 675 for example.

Really the gixxer 750 is along the lines of a cheater 600 now. That bike is just a gixxxer 600 with a stroked/bored motor. The 750 class has been gone since forever ago.

Also the Ducati 800 class bikes too. Because Vtwins a shit and need massive displacment advantages to be even slightly competitive.

tl;dr A cheater 600 is any middleweight sportbike that has more than 599cc's of displacement but is smaller than a literbike.
>>
>>16805139
>675
daytonas get an extra 75cc cause they are missing 1 cyl. i think ducatis and aprilias in motogp get 1200cc instead of 1000cc bc theyre v4 not i4
>>
>>16805142
>daytonas get an extra 75cc cause they are missing 1 cyl
thus the 'cheater' designation

>i think ducatis and aprilias in motogp get 1200cc
They don't.

Cheater liters are also a thing. See every ducati literbike since the 999
>>
>>16805142
I don't follow the GP, but I'm sure pretty much all the manufacturers there use v4s there. Ducati use a twin in WorldSBK and they're allowed extra displacement there.
