Why doesn't Yamaha get with the times and make their V Star bikes fuel injected? Would be nice if they innovated off of their current engines and added a 6th gear overdrive for them as well...

Has anyone ridden one of these?
How well do they hold up, drive, handle?
Pros? Cons?

Also why did they ever stop production of these smaller displacement bikes? Seems like they would be extremely profitable by appealing to commuters, new riders, and people who just want to try riding motorcycles for fun but not be too committed.

>Why doesn't Yamaha get with the times and make their V Star bikes fuel injected?

Because their customers aren't autistic about EFI. Go buy something different if carbs kick your ass. No need for overdrive because those engines don't need low RPMs to survive. Retooling to add it would be absurd.

Keeping cruisers the same helps build aftermarket support over time, which in turn makes for more sales because buyers know they have aftermarket support.

Gold Wing forums exist. This is not a Gold Wing forum. This is /dbt/. Buy a DRZ. Honda a shit.

Really, you are choosing the second worst possible resource by asking here. The worst possible resource would be a place where no one sends you to brand specific forums.

Pick model which interests you, goto forums, look for problems (no model of anything has no problems) and check out what owners like.

Buy a runner and use your wrench-fu to ensure drivetrain is healthy. I don't worry about cosmetics since bike bodywork is so easy to fix or replace, but you don't want to do engine work because they aren't worth rebuilding.

Finally bought my first bike.
> 2002 Ducati Monster 620
> 2800 miles
> $2850
Rode it yesterday morning for a bit and couldn't be happier other than some possible gunk built up in the fuel system from not being ridden much.
Took it to the shop yesterday so I could get it running like a top for riding season. Here's what I'm having done.
> timing belt changed
> all fluids flushed (br,cl,oil,fuel)
> New filters
> injectors cleaned
> valve job
> chain greased
> maybe reflash the ecu? Don't remember

it probably needs tires too if it's been sitting that long and not being ridden they're probably dry rotted to hell but you'll easily be able to tell by looking for cracks in them.

I'd install some frame sliders so when you inevitably drop it you don't scratch it to fuck, they're a good investment.

Also you should buy a shop manual and start doing some maintenance yourself otherwise it's going to get pricey quick.

Normies should stick to cars and shut their fucking pieholes instead of jabbering about subjects they know nothing about. I have fun enlightening them when they do it around me.

Harley personnel ESPECIALLY should know their shit since they use history to market their product.

I only interact with mechanics and parts counter people, and have maybe spent a hundred bucks in HD dealers in the past twenty years. I shop online instead. If you get a Harley, immediately get the factory service manual/manuals and parts catalog. They are outstanding and totally worth it.

BTW Sportsters can be punched out over 100 cubic inches with little fuss.

You will drop it
seriously everyone drops their first bike, therefore buying new is not recommanded.

Pretty good bike tho, very good handling, very fun, probably the best with R3,ninja300 etc as beginner bikes.

But KTM is a pain in terms of reliability, price, maintenance..

At least if you buy new you will have everything sorted out and under warranty wich balances the issues of buying KTM.

t.owner of an adventure 990 for 2 years who was tired of the constant maintenance to do on it, the heating, the rusting, the cheap plastics, the oil consumption, the expensive maintenance costs and the absolutely abbhorent client service. ( maybe i found the wrong ones)

Also, a 500cc twostroke without a set of mufflers will have negative effects on the rider after a few dozen laps.
>>
>>16801902
I think you're probably wrong. While no racing series probably has noise limits, the trace tracks themselves usually do.

I know about that. My point is that Greece is in a state of turmoil as of today. It doesn't take a rocket surgeon to figure that out
>>
>>16801884
Have you even run a straight pipe on any large displacement bike at race pace?

Shit's fatiguing as fuck and bound to start causing ear damage (even with plus) near instantly. Bear in mind that for every hour spent racing, a rider might spend a lot more practicing.
>>
>>16801965

Strangely enough I highly doubt it.

Nigger I absolutely don't give a fuck about the details and every intricacy. I doubt you know how the Monroe doctrine came about, or why the trail of years ended up in Oklahoma.

Even if you bothered to look it up, just to prove that you're "smarter" it would detract from my point that people really only give a shit about the country they reside in, or came from.

So I have a passing knowledge about the major stuff, but no I don't really know or care that much about the ungracious intricacies of a rock in the Mediterranean.
>>

It's not, though, that's the point, you fucking imbecile, why do you think I even asked?
That's the difference between the history of Greece and some facts about American 200 years old history.

To look at churches, eat Italian food, go to museums, party, look at some Ferraris and enjoy the culture.

I'd probably do the same thing in Greece except look at Skoda's and eat Greek food.

I'm a recovering NEET recently cured of joblessness, and I'm currently saving up to buy a vehicle.

Problem is, I live at home with my family with two cars in the garage, 2 cars in the driveway, and two cars on the street. We're at the legal limit for my area, and not one of us plans on moving out in the near future.

For the record, we're all on great terms with each other, it's just that there isn't enough (legal) room for an extra car.

Is it worth looking into a bike for this single reason alone, or should I reconsider my options? I'm also extremely disinclined towards buying a used motorcycle, if I do end up the riding route, simply because I don't know enough about them mechanically to be confident in what I'm buying.

motorbikes are literally two wheels strapped to an engine
there may be fancy ways to connect them to the power, but they are essentially that

get a used 50 to 150 scooter
will literally use almost no gas, pretty indestructible, can be had very cheap and won't be hard to learn

also dbt is very international, so remember to post country, budget and license bracket (if applicable)

USA, AZ

I was honestly hoping to spend less than $8k total, including gear and any fees or taxes or whatever, but I want what I buy to last me several years at least. Honestly hoping to get it paid off within a year of buying.

I have no rent or bills to pay, since the folks are saints and I've been keeping my wallet tighter than Las Vegas virgin keeps her legs.

The other thing is that I commute about 40 miles round trip per day to and from work.
>>
>>16802214
I also read the sticky, there's a used bike guide that gives a huge list of things to look over when buying used and I had no idea what half of that shit even is. I really don't think bikes are just an engine duct taped to two wheels
>>
>>16802294
>>16802308
1 - do not finance a bike
2 - do not finance shit in general, drop your american ways
3 - a used first bike will run you 1,5 to 2,5k usually less
4 - consider something like a burgman 400 for enough power, reasonable comfy and a shitton of space in the trunk
5 - yes, bikes really are 2 wheels and an engine, see me taking one apart here >>16801094

the sticky is shit, outdated and made by carfags

just check if it runs and doesn't look too ratty, if in doubt send pics

8k is hueg budget, poorfag way is to get an helmet and gloves, then jacket, then boots, then pants, according to money left

do you have a license? because if not i'm pretty sure you burgers are limited to 50cc and 45mph

You can easily buy a reliable mid 2000's Japanese motorcycle for $2,500.
>used bike guide that gives a huge list of things to look over when buying used and I had no idea what half of that shit even is
It's a good idea to start getting familiar with the parts of a motorcycle JUST ENOUGH so you can look one over semi-confidently. Helps to have a friend. Motorcycles are pretty simple but you need to know about your machine because the smallest mistakes can have big consequences. You don't have a metal cage to protect you if something goes wrong on the road.
Try to read through the used bike guide, look things up if you don't know what it is to get a general idea so you can spot if something is wrong. When I bought my first bike, I didn't even ride it, I inspected what I could and had the owner start it and ride around in front of me, shifting gears, braking, idling etc.
Also look online at replacement part prices, helps you negotiate.
