heya dbt, newfag with his xr80 here, when i get into fifth gear the engine starts to hiccup when you fully press the throttle making it pretty annoying. The idler jet was clogged and my buddy used a small drill bit to unglog it, im afraid he may have made the jet hole bigger than what they are supposed to by doing that... what say you? Does this sound like it could be the jet?

the idler jet shouldn't be responsible for that, it'll be on the main jet at full throttle.

Can one just let down the air in the flat tyre, eased it off the rim in situ and teased the tube away from the rim, the tyre carcass to the other side and patch it, place it back and pump it up with a hand pump?
Why is it necessary to raise the bike up, disconnect abs sensor, remove wheel from forks etc.
Can it just be done on the axle?

you can patch a tube without pulling the wheel off, i had the forks and shock out for a respring.
still need to pull the axle bolt and one caliper loose out to change the tube on the front though.
if i use a high fender like a dirtbike i can skip removing calipers to do tire work

I want to upgrade to LEDs in the front, but would prefer to replace the light assembly entirely and not just replace the bulb with an LED.

Does anyone make any kind of universal round headlight conversion kit?
Everything i can find is either bike-specific or is just a headlight.

Surely there is some kind of mount that attaches to the forks or something?

My headlight is glass and can't be pulled apart reliably, otherwise i'd probably just retrofit it with a projector kit.

You're really not going to load up a supermoto tire enough to take advantage of the supersport grip from one of those street/track tires. All you're doing is compromising tire life.

Really you'll be fine with a sport touring tire or a DS tire and have more grip than you'd ever need on that type of bike.

Really, keith is an idiot

Watch actual professional racers. They roll off on the throttle in turns all the time. You know why? Because they actually know how to ride hard. If you can't do that, and can't get the trackday practice in, you should be able to do all your braking before corners just by engine braking and reserve the levers for coming to a stop. Any faster and you gonna die.

even if your tires are a little squared from highway miles, you will still be able to wear down the edges until they are no longer new and shiny.

commuting is no excuse. go to a track, even a gokart track, or practice really tight turns in parking lots for hours on end

so I still don't really know anything about motorcycles so feel free to make fun of me.

I plan on getting a motorcycle. I love to tinker with stuff and fine tune. ideally I'd like to buy something dismantled or in need of repair and fix it up.

I never ridden a motorbike bike but have lot's of experience with non motor ones if that dose make any difference.

I love to be out in the woods so trail riding should be fun but I want the bike to have a certain degree of utility.

I would be cool if I can use it to visit buddys from time to time that are about 200 km away.
I'm fine with taking some time and the scenic route.

so, google tells me I want a dual sport or advanture bike.

can you point me into a certain direction ?
is there a good time period (like japanese bikes from the 90s) or are there specific maufacturers I should look out for ?

also, I read that adventure bikes usually are fairly big. that might make them a bad choice for a beginning rider, right ?
>>
>>16799188
Just a noisy, pigfat hipsterbike.
>>
What is a good dual sport/enduro for $3K and under? Preferably more than 250cc

On offshoot from that, how difficult is making a dirt bike street legal in IL? I see tons of dirt bikes within my previously stated parameters but they're not street legal.

>>
>>16799202

Honda. 250cc. Dual sport/Enduro.
>>
>>16799202
Bikes, like most in life, are purpose built
You can get some compromise, but it's not the same thing
I'd say get a wr250 and maybe invest in a comfy seat if you start really taking it on trips

>>16799211
>Pleb tier
Wr250
Drz400
KTM 530
>God tier
Betas
>>
>>16799188
Which is just a retro styled sport standard.
>>
>>16799213
That's the cutest little chinkbike I've ever seen.
Are those genuine Bremhoes?
>>
>>16799211
>>16799202
DR650. XR650. Pick one. Add top case. Enjoy.
>>
>>16799224
It's italian and yes, most italian brands run brembos
>>
>>16799211
Pretty easy, some come with a streetable title, so you just bring that to the DMV and get plates, if it doesn't have a title you have to get it inspected by the state police (lights, mirrors, turn signals) then bring the form they give you to the DMV get a title, then plate it as normal.

According to someone I know who works at the DMV you can supposedly get two strokes plated if you can get it past the state police, I don't know how difficult that would be however.
>>
>>16799211
Closest thing to a street legal dirtbike you can get that is still decent on the road and doesnt have shit tier maintenance is a WR250R. Heavier than a dirtbike and has less power than a WR250F but thats the price you pay for street legality, durability, and easy maitenence.

After that you get a littler heavier (~30lbs) with a little more power (~4-5hp) with the DRZ400S

From there you start getting into the 650 singles ala KLR650, DR650, XR650L. All of which are pigfat and really not great offroad. They also don't really make significantly more power than the WRR or DRZ.

>>16799202
>>16799214
WR250R is lighter, makes more power, and is better offroad than the Honda CRF250L.
CRF250L is only really a viable option if you're a manlet or a woman. And even then I would just lower the WR.
>>
>>16799239
I'm not too terribly concerned with weight. I just want something that will go pretty much anywhere and be fuck as fuck, but everyone wants an arm and a dick for their street legal beater
>>
>>16799247
Fun as fuck*
>>
>>16799247
>wants fun and go anywhere
>not concerned about weight
Yes you are.
>>
>>16799247
How much the bike weighs has a larege bearing on where the bike can go and where you're willing to take the bike.

It's much easier to hustle a 300lb WR250R around offfroad than it is to try to do the same on a 400lb KLR650.

If you want a 'go anywhere' type bike you can put some miles on. You'll probably want the smallest street legal bike that you can get ahold of that is still capable of highway speeds.

That bike is probably the WR250R.

People talk about Betas, but they require major overhauls every 30 hours or so. It is unreasonable to try to put any significant amount of road miles on an offroad bike with ridiculous maintenance schedules like these.

>>16799275

t. Yamaha shill

dont listen to this clown get the xr250
>>
>>16799285
The XR250 and CRF250L are inferior to the WR250R in every way other than seat height for short riders.

Call me a shill all you want but those are the facts.
>>
>>16799293
>XR250
You could have at least said XR400 and had a shred of credibility. The XR250 is garbage compared too the WRR.

Even the XR400 doesnt have anything on the WRR other than rock like reliability, and even then the WRR is anything but an unreliable bike.

Which 400+ sportbike is the lightest?
I'm guessing some new italian liter

The real question is why do most bikes average around the 200kg mark?
>>
>>16799478
Why do you want the lightest?

It's around 200kg because that's how much the average frames, engines, gearboxes and wheels weight
