What are some good, protective boots that don't make you look like a street racer tryhard on a Shadow? Was looking at the Icon 1000 Elsinores or the 1000 Preps, any other suggestions?

Most boots with that sort of aesthetic seem to only offer their leather construction as their rigidity/ankle protection

Just split the ride there into 2 days, I was a complete noob at the first SEM and had to ride over 12 hours. Sought out twisties on purpose and worked on gitting gud.
And don't be worried about being 2slo4us on group rides, I'm thinking about kicking back and purposefully going slow at the back of the group to make sure noone gets lost or left behind, enjoying the scenery instead of risking my neck.
>be first SEM
>be riding at back of group
>suddenly people on the road in the middle of a corner
>R65 lowsided because he got cheeky
>keep riding with some of the others to tell the guys in front
>approach long left bend followed by tight right corner
>all downhill so I can see the tight corner
>there's someone standing there
>he's wearing all black
>oh fuck it's FKG isn't it, but where is his bike?
>Dutch Bimmer anon and R6 guy aren't there
>one of my two compatriots goes back to bring the news to the group with R65
>one stays with FKG
>I'm tasked with catching up with Bimmer and R6
>in the rain
>on an unfamiliar road
>after not even 6 months of riding and no previous twisties experience
Was shitting my pants 2bh

There were no intersections there. Bimmer and R6 stopped around 15 minutes from where FKG fell and I caught up with them.
>>
>>16775566
The weather was shit, we just wanted to get of that fucking mountain.

I was checking my mirrors at first down hill, but never saw FKG fall, even though he was right behind me.
When I noticed I tried to signal R6, but he didn't see it. I eventually found a spot to stop, were drop-anon found me. R6 stop somewhere up ahead.
>>

Finnish Katana Guy rode all the way from fucking Helsinki to Southern Bavaria, and back, on a bike he threw 10 m down a mountain.
Then he rode it to Slovenia and back the year after.

>>
>>16775584

>>
>>16775586
I gave a shit, but on a small down hill road with no places to stop you just keep on going.
I thought FKG had just slowed down, as the condition was just piss poor.

Like I said, I was checking my mirrors, but I stopped that after some near-misses against or off the mountain.

>>16775584
I'm not the one complaining. I'm even going to take a detour to that place, 2 months early though.

So I bought my first motorcycle finally. I'm not really a Harley person, but my dad insisted I start on one. Sadly I think I over paid.
I digress from my point here though, my goal with this bike is to truly turn it into something I do love, and mod the fuck out of it. I was going to turn it into either a Cafe Racer or Bobber. First changes will probably be with the seat and handlebars and I'll go from there.
Do you guys know some forums that'd be good to browse for information/self education on modifying my first motorcycle/vehicle.

That's sort of true but also sort of not true. Look at animals in nature. If a predator is attacking a group of animals in a herd the herd will take off and scatter but on a smaller scale the weak and fragile prey animals will be protected by their family aka the mother animal. Very rarely will the mother animal abandon their young, much like friends and family of a weak human will protect them. Society as a whole still doesn't give a shit about the weak, humans walk all over others that they do not know.

The moral of the story is that mother always has your back, which is why I still live with mine in the basement

After riding my cruiser, I can assure you you're wrong. It's far easier to lock up the rear tire because once you brake, weight is transferred from the back of the bike to the front.

No suspension geometry can make up for that basic principle, unless you have some crazy design that distorts reality.

From that same article

Which is your more important brake? We hope that everyone knows that the front brake provides most of your motorcycle's stopping power. Testers using both brakes on conventional braking systems made stops with a mean deceleration of .776 G. With just the front brake, that dropped to .711 G. But if they used only the rear brake, their stops developed a mere .425 G.

Anon, on behalf of what I'm sure is a fairly large percentage of the thread;

We don't give a flying fuck about you or your desperate need for validation of your opinions. You're contributing absolutely nothing of value, detracting from what small amount of worthwhile discussion was actually taking place.

People like different things, for their own reasons, or none at all. Nobody's questioning you about why you enjoy smoking cock so much, you're perfectly free to like whatever you want. In what way does somebody else's preferences in motorcycles affect your life? I mean, I'm not interested in cruisers at all and will probably never own one, but I respect the fact that other people's interpretation of enjoyment on a bike may differ from mine.

Either post a picture of your bike (although I personally doubt you even own/ride one), provide something of value to the thread, or fuck off.

>on a motorcycle
At least you learnt, anon. As long as you know the area moderately well, you can escape fairly easily. The key is to make as many turns as possible as often as possible, trying to get out of sight at the earliest opportunity. (Unless your bike is fast enough to just use top speed to get away and off the road before support is called).

Use your mobility and superior acceleration to take routes that aren't feasible for the cops.

Of course, if the cop is also on a bike, the situation may be somewhat more difficult.

Keep trying to justify going more than double the posted limit.

By all means speed and ride like a dick but stop whining because you got caught when you knew the risks. There are reasons why there are speed limits, and you deserve every bit of what you got
>>
>>16777604
The lesson you should have learned is where and when to speed. If you're speeding everywhere, you're going to get nailed a lot but just keeping an eye out for spots cops might be reduces it a shitload.

I speed probably 80% of the time but have never gotten a ticket in 7 years because I slow down where I've seen them before or where they would likely be hiding.
>>
>>16777649
If you were already doing 210 and the police were able to pull you over, what makes you think that you could outrun them?

Also, they got your plate (unless you ride without it). Once they have it, they can just stop chasing you, search up who you are and go wait for you in your driveway.

Different anon here, but I have an answer... I see cruiser riders basically the same as cyclists- they are slow and they get in the way when you're trying to string together a nice set of bends.
If you want to ride twisties, get a sport bike- If you want to ride a cruiser, stick to the highway.

Not him, and not a part of this argument, but I dislike cruisers because of the message they send to companies, buying cruisers allows companies to sell bikes based only on marketing and image, so companies that can't innovate out of a paper bag are able to flourish, see Harley Davidson.

>>
>>16777736
That's good and all, and I can understand your dislike for them, I don't like them either. However, if a customer doesn't care about that, why should it make their tastes in motorcycles any less valid?

Let's say that somebody buys a cruiser SOLELY for the looks. Why is that a bad thing? There might absolutely be an objectively better bike for every single performance criteria, but if a guy doesn't mind not having the best top speed/0-60 etc, how is their choice any less valid than someone else's?

By way of example, could I ask, without judgement at all, what bike you ride?
>>
>>16777736
What motorcycles mean to you could mean a completely different thing to other people. The reason you don't see the value in cruiser bikes is because you have a passion for sport bikes, the same way some people see your sport bike and don't have an interest for it.

Also people buy sport bikes for looks arguably just as much as cruisers. That's why everybody who doesn't like sport bikes think that sport bike riders are douche bags. Because a lot of them go out and get ridiculous bikes that they don't know how to operate and do stupid shit to look good in front of people. Why do you think so many people wheelie everywhere and rev up their engines like retards when in traffic or the city?

PO owner did a pretty mediocre paint job and bondied the damage to the fairings but never painted over the repairs so it has a bunch of grey spots on it. Bike runs and everything works, has all the plastics, and starts up really easily.

I bought it for a few hundred dollars and just got it running yesterday. Took it for a ride around the street and everything works, only problem was the clutch but hopefully it improves with some fresh oil. Just need to fix one turn signal that's cracked and lube the throttle cables and it should be in good shape.

This. I'd much rather go out and open up the garage and see an aesthetically pleasing motorcycle, one that I've always wanted, a dream bike, than one that I don't even really like but know that I could ride that teenie tiny bit faster on if I really wanted too. Also it's all negligible anyways there is always going to be that dude on the 250 that shines your ass on the twisties on your brand new sport bike. Ride what you want and you will ultimately learn more about the machine you love.

dunno yet, probably around five or six days. a personal record for longest trip.

probably gonna travel pretty light. dancing, grad school visits, kbbq, a little rock climbing. no camping. might pick up some used "universal" luggage offacraigslist or summat.

but yeah, I'm stoked as fug. how about you?

I'm not whining because I got caught, merely pointing out the their idea of punishment which I assume is supposed to deter me from doing it again has actually only spurred me on to do it more. Basic comprehension skills please.

>>16777682
It was a pretty dumb slip up, I speed about 80% of the time as well and it's the first time I got caught for anything more than 15 over in 10 years.. doing more than double the limit isn't uncommon for me either, but usually I pick my spots better than a major highway, stupid lapse of judgement due to a whole lot of uncommon circumstances surrounding my mental state at the time.

>>16777686
The police were able to pull me over because I let them. Rego plate means they would have just been waiting at my house if I hadn't.
As someone already pointed out it's pretty easy to get away, all I had to do was get off the empty highway and into a bit of traffic and they would be blocked at gaps I could easily get through. No point if they already have my rego, hence why I'll be taking the plate off as soon as I get my bike back.

So there are better sounding engines out there and better ergonomical bikes out there because you think so?

That's opinion based you retarded faggot

And looking like a fool is relative. You can argue all you want but will ultimately look like a fool to everyone else. The way to bring up flaws in cruiser bikes is not to shout to everyone who likes them stating that they are wrong and retarded.

>>
>>16777838

Nah this is made exclusively in PS, but I need to vector the heart image so its more sharp around the edges, and then I need to probably use different text.

I was trying to keep it a die cut sticker for simplicity's sake, but I could do this is a cut printed sticker form as well, and have much more detail on the heart, but not sure if it would then become too big, or too detailed for a bike.

I was going to do a few other organs, like the brain and maybe lungs, but the heart seems most symbolic. I also chose a more real heart than a normal cartoon heart to add some realism.

I'll try out some different fonts, and plain font or with outlines, but based on the feedback I got so far it just needs some tweaking.
>>
>>16777819
Fuck if I know I have a zx636 I don't really like cruisers all that much. But you calling all the cruiser riders in the world wrong for liking what they ride is ignorant and retarded.

I assume you ride alone and don't have many riding buddies, or if you do you probably aren't as vocal about your dislike for cruisers as many people enjoy them

Well any rational person would think hmm maybe I shouldn't go double the speed limit because that punishment sucked, instead of hmmm the next time I am going double the speed limit I will make sure I run if the police see me.

It doesn't matter if you've learned anything from the police but hopefully you learn something from yourself. The point is not to get into that situation again.

You're the reason why people get killed on motorcycles and the reason motorcyclists look bad.

I don't ride a cruiser (I have in the past), but I imagine this is why most people do. Plus like it or not, often Harley riders have them for the image and heritage.
>>
>>16777885
>I'm no different irl
Yes you are
>>
I have nothing against metric cruisers or anything that's not a piece of fucking shit Harley or anything, but why the fuck are you retards acting like the only performance deficiency your bikes have is being slow on a race track?

My bike is slow as shit but it still does tons of useful things better in every day riding. It's like you're driving a goddamn truck and pretending you can do anything as well as any car that's not a sports car.
>>
>>16777854
500 to LA in a day. puttering around LA a bit, maybe hit some of the canyons if I get time. then back in a day.

>>16777891

Ride a while before you change anything so your body gets an input on the decision. Exception is changing handlebars as you'll know quickly what's comfortable.

Chop Cult and the xlforum are both good. xlforum is THE god tier Sportster tech resource.

When posting questions always include YEAR and MODEL.

Sporsters are solid machines and yours should serve you well.

>>16778028
Except be as comfortable and easy to ride. The huge rake and trail of cruisers is most of the reason for this, partly how low they are to the ground. They're bar none the most stable bikes that exist. Of course they handle like slugs because of this, but people who ride them aren't looking to drag the knee and flick it back and forth on the touge.

Anyone but Dianese (dyin' easy) or Alpinestars. They got too popular to keep up with orders now everything from them is made in china and falls apart in a few months from general wear and tear even if you never crash in it.
>>
>>16777991
I can ride in the city, I can do mid-distance trips on the highway and it's agile enough for the passes. It's fuel injected and it's cheap. It's beginner friendly.
It's the best at all this, this is why I chose that bike.

I want to call you stupid and retarded and all these names for going out riding in a hurricane but I'm a little too curious to do so. What was it like was it wild? I've been in the types of winds to knock out power and tree branches but never hurricane force winds. Must have been nuts

I'm not the original autist, I couldn't give less of a fuck what people ride. But if you think cruiser are better at anything but making noise and aesthetics (if you're into that kinda thing) you've clearly never ridden a cruiser or many other classes of bikes.

I've ridden a lot if bikes because I'm always curious if here's something better and I've found something I like about nearly every type of bike, but cruiser really only have looks and marketing going for them.
>>
>>16777919
