Where the fuck can I buy Daytona boots at a good price?

I'm interested in the Clubman model but I can't find my size, 42, anywhere in decent colors (read black/gray), only in red.

Do I just buy the model without the sliders? It's identical.

So I might be getting a motorcycle with carburetors for a multitude of reasons.

The fuel injector fanboys are telling me that I will die from constant tuning and maintenance. Is it really that bad?

The carb fanboys say that tuning becomes second thought eventually (like learning stick).
>>
>>16773094

*second nature
>>
>>16773067
that's yamaha's "DeCarbon" system. the shock lives in the frame backbone, and is bolted to the steering head.
>>
>>16773094
>>16773102
You generally don't tune carbs, unless you do something stupid like K&N air filters.

But when you do tune, you buy $1 jets instead of a $600 Poweer Commander.
>>
>>16773113

Like, fuel injector guys tell me that you have to constantly touch on the carb everytime there are barometric pressure and temperature differences, while in FI, the computer "does it for you."
>>
>>16772439
fuk dats nice
>>
>>16773151
No. Not true. The carb works on engine vacuum and the venturi effect. The only way you would need to change anything would be a massive change in altitude, or if you went to aftermarket intake or exhaust. They you would have to disassemble and re-jet. They need to be synchronized occasionally, but you have to do that to injected bikes too, so it's a wash.

>>
>>16773197
That's what you should be doing anyway, family. That and scanning your mirrors.
>>
>>16773197
But that's what you should do unless you plan on shimmying out of the way of incoming cars.
>>
>>16773186

Much thanks! Last question. How often does your carburetor "gum up?" Does using fuel stabilizers during storage (not riding during winters) help prevent this?

Or, do people just drain their motorcycles dry during wintertime?

Thanks again.
>>
>>16773197
lots of my bikes do that from time to time. just blip the throttle a little when shifting it into 1st.
>>
>>16773151
the "CV" carb put an end to altitude induced jet changes. They were invented in the fiftes, I think, and by 1980 CV carbs were pretty much all you saw on Motorcycles.
>>
>>16773212
do you live in the USA cause the ethanol is fucking destructive on bike carbs.

aside from that i just would start mine up once a week for a couple minutes then turn it off. found it easier then draining the bowls or adding stuff to the gas. but our winters are little wild. 72F one day 32F 2 days later.
>>
>>16773227

Damn, I must've been talking to uninformed Boomers or idiots then.
>>
>>16773212
I drain the carbs if it's going to sit. How hard that is depends on the bike.

The additives seem to work for people, though.

>>16773237

Yep. Ethanol country. I searched online for places in America that sell pure gasoline and they are quite sporadic.
>>
>>16773244
Millennials? They may have never seen a carb.
>>
>>16773212
Additives do help, but nothing beats riding it. If I know it's not going to be out for a couple of month's I'll completely drain the fuel system. They do not like to sit for long periods, and the tiny little jets and passages can easily clog with varnish if left too long.
>>
>>16773212
Also, if you do let one sit, don't be discouraged if it runs like shit the first time you start it. Get it on the road and ride it for a while, and most of the crap will clear itself out,
>>
>>16773227
almost true.

lots of fast trail bikes still use slide carbs however if they're set up reasonably well you can go through fairly large altitude changes without much in the way of ill effects.
slides generally are better for power, cv are good for never needing adjustment

My fave stealership trick is the one where they try to charge $500 to fill out THEIR paperwork in selling the bike. "Doc preperation fee" or some such. It's the cost of doing business, and they want you to pay...

I've only two bikes new from a dealer, both times the dealer tool the charge out when I told him it was a deal breaker
>>
>>16773372
Yeah when I bought my car from the dealership, I negotiated the price 2k down and started filling out paperwork.

They wanted me to pay some $300 bullshit dealership fee. They said it's non-negotiable and changed their minds when I was walking out the door because I'm not some cuck faggot.

Dealerships are scum of the earth, never go through them if you don't have to.

i just find the value of the bike i want, get the money up and find a bike near the cost , then jew them down to right at value and if they dont budge walk. i got my last bike down to $8063 OTD, told them to knock off the 83 and we were golden, they said no... i only wanted to spend 8k so i proceeded to be a petulant child and made them give me about 600 in helmets tires and service instead of the $83 off.

You're still going to pay more for a bike from a dealership than a private sale. Unless you're buying new there's really no reason.

>>
>>16773490
A 'good' deal in a dealership will always be more expensive than a good deal in a private sale just due to the nature of dealerships. They need to charge a premium over Joe from craigslist just because they have a brick and mortar store they need to keep operational and employees they need to keep paid.
>>
>>16773469
your taller when you stand of a stack of $100 bills , people should realize the only reason a dealership is standing is to give YOU what YOU want. you have the power to buy it or not , if its to high dont buy it...pretty simple formula.
>>
>>16773490
what they need to charge and what i choose to pay are separate things
>>
>>16773520
That applies with small town dealerships but when the dealership is one of the big Jap 3 I think they can afford some fucking leniency.
>>
>>16773520
>what they need to charge and what i choose to pay are separate things

My brother bought his car from a sketchy little lot; the guy working there pretended to get a phone call from another person that was interested in the car and apparently offered more than what he offered.

He said he didn't care, started packing up his stuff, and the dealer amazingly sold it to him anyways and the call never came up again.
>>
Keep in mind that dealerships can potentially do things like give you discounts on gear which may offset any difference in purchase price. Potentially.

Dealerships take a loss on things all the time, it's not like they have infinite storage space. At some point you just have to get rid of shit to replace it with something that can actually make money. It's especially common that they get fucked on overvalued trade-ins.

Is this the 1950s why would the dealership use such an amateurish tactic.
I remember my first bike purchase the salesfloor guy talking to me had an "important call" made me wait a while another salesfloor guy came in and I guess they were doing a goodcop badcop bullshit thing, it backfired pretty badly because I asked to speak to the manager for the guy just dipping out on me and no one coming until I kept exchanging glares.
>>

if you balance on your right foot and hold it in first with your left and let the clutch out slow to bout 1/4 out it should pop in gear without stalling. i have this problem too.
>>
>>16773550
You are the one who has lived a sheltered life, There is a point where a bike starts to collect dust and the dealership will sell it at a low value just to get it out of the place to put in a better selling bike.dealership for too long.

The dealership near me has some 2015's that are pretty fucking cheap compared to the 2016s because they have to make room for the 2017s.
>>
>>16773568
i worked at a ford (yes, i know they're shit) dealership a couple years ago while in college, all the cars on our lot were never sold at a loss. if a trade-in sat for long enough (usually a month or so) we would just send it to the auctions. a new car would have to sit on our lot for years before being sent to auction but we never marked it below what we paid for it.

Because a lot of salespeople are amateur as shit and bounce from dealership to dealership

>>16773588
I have a feeling my local Honda dealership has some seriously fucking ancient 600 and 1000RRs still sitting in the showroom because they had been there forever last time I was there but they'd still be too expensive.

>>16773597
>we would just send it to the auctions
Yeah, and take a loss.
>>
>>16773603
yeah, if you're buying your bikes at auction you can get it for a good deal.
>>
>>16773600
I'm trying, been looking at wrecked ones but they wont go on the auction block. Damage on them doesn't look too bad, just broken fairings.
>>
>>16773608
street triple not up your alley? I think sport-nakeds make a lot better streetbikes than crotch rockets.. usually better unless you have track racing in mind.
>>
>>16773618
It's mostly commuting, maybe an occasional ride to the mountain, to be honest. I just think they're cool though.
>>
>>16773625
Fair enough, you like what you like. I actually find sport bikes surprisingly comfortable, it's just the fairings getting in the way of maintenance and dropping it scratching them to fuck that I don't like.

Yes, Kawasaki specifically manufactured those features to kill its customers, destroying it's reputation and thus leading the business to fail.

A dealership "loss" 90% of the time is still a profit, it's just under their "selling zone" or whatever the fuck they call it.

They do it all the time to make room for better selling bikes, it's ok because they will recoup the costs from the next few poor bastards who buy bikes.

What little was on it has been removed down to bare frame. Bars, gauges, headlight, front fender, front brake disc, front caliper all gone. Custom frame with an XS650 motor and a KZ650 front end.

Frame is extremely light, slugged where it matters, have no problem picking it up one handed and lifting it above my head. Needs to be finished and some rust ground off, will be grinding off useless tabs, flap disc, then buffing before coating with either POR-15 or bedliner.

Currently waiting to hear back from a fella who has a 78 FXE narrow glide front end 4 over I might swap. The XS650 motor had a decent amount of gas in the oil so my assumption hopefully is that last time it was in service the person had a faulty petcock and flooded it out. Will be pulling jugs anyways to see what the story is. Rear wheel is a drum setup and has been binned, have a 32T yamaha sprocket that will work on most HD rears, have a rear caliper from an HD 2003 deuce.

Points ignition with mechanical advance is being kept, I'll take serviceable and cheap over some pamco nonsense. Starter was removed and a freeze plug installed to block it off. Making a custom bracket to hold the stator from a YZ350 Banshee to convert to PMA. Trying to source a small dual fire coil that will be hidden inside the neck gusset alongside a 3 phase rectifier and accel capacitor. Condensor will be installed underneath gas tank, the only wires that will be seen will hopefully be the plug wires.

Have a frisco style 2.4gal slim tank to put on that I'll be hitting with brass and gun blue. Swapping clutch to hydraulic, running no front brake so rear brake will be controlled by master cylinder on throttle leaving no control for right foot.
Installing a basic sprung solo seat kicked up a little to tilt the hips forward, gear lever will be the MikesXS big foot 7+" model, simple knurled pegs on the side. Basic rear fender, pillion pad and homemade sissybar/brace Only two lights, headlight and brake light

Most likely will be fully rebuilding the motor thankfully the cost to rebuild an XS650 is absolutely fuck all. The condition of the oil being so thinned out and reeking of gas probably indicates this thing was needing rings a long time ago.

I decided to settle on this.
Never been a fan of crotch rockets, The Diavel is too much bike for me.
It's been the only bike I can comfortably sit on (I'm short as fuck). And I enjoy how comfortable the cruiser style seating is.

Beginners should stick to bikes that limit themselves to 600lbs and 70hp.

That said, cruisers are a bit different and you won't really see a beginner with issues on one unless it's 1200+cc

Even then it comes down to restraint.

You're right, beginner riders don't make mistakes either, like grabbing too much front brake on a supersport with tons of stopping power compared to a smaller bike, or grabbing too much throttle on a 1000cc and looping their shit real quick, none of that stuff happens ever so that's good to know.

Every first bike should have a clutch that slips so you can't accelerate too quickly. Would stop a lot of lowsides and accidental wheelies if the bike just didn't accelerate as quickly. Would even limit your top speed due to air resistance on the bike slipping the clutch.

I'm a second-year rider on an R3, started out on a Ninja 250. For any anons unfamiliar with the inside-baseball, the Ninja 250 is ranked somewhere in the 3-5 range of best bike, while the R3 and GS500 duke it out over the 1 and 2 slots.

I was always impressed by the performance of the Ninja 250, but it just isn't in the same league as my R3. The drop-off in engine performance when you leave the 250cc class is pretty steep, and it must be even steeper when you look at sub-250cc bikes. I mean this in the least arrogant way possible.

The consensus on /dbt/ is that most of the value-added comes from the additional low-end torque. I can't speak to the quality of other bikes, but the dominance of the R3 self-perpetuates pretty easily. Knowing that I'm riding the best performing bike for its class is a comforting thought.
>>
>>16774399

>>16774399
Reminder the CBR300R is just as torquey as the R3 with better suspension and brakes and buying a 300 for its drag racing times and top speed is like buying a liter for its storage capacity.
>>
>>16774338
Except liters won't powerwheelie as easy as you think.

Unless you're in 2nd gear or below and snap it to WOT at like 9000RPM you're not gonna have problems with looping.

I have a 250 cruiser. The Arqin Bruiser 250cc, which is a lithesome agile number. It makes town work and B-road rides a hoot. The handling is spot on, I can flick this round bends like anything, and it just wants more. As for the engine...sure it could do with a bit more grunt but if you rev it hard it responds well. I have a full Two Brothers V.A.L.E system with a K&N filter which always helps. If your thinking of getting this pipe (I would recommend it to anyone) just be warned...it is loud...and when I say loud...I mean LOUD! Performance wise...the little one will get to 90 with little fuss, but after that it starts dragging off, I have had 110 out of mine once or twice though. Looks wise I love it. This thing turns heads everywhere I go, if it wasn’t for the 250 badge and tale-tale rear tyre size it would be easily mistaken for a 600. As for reliability I haven’t had any major problems with it even after all those miles. Even after 18,000 miles it still feels like it did the day I took it out of the showroom, and when cleaned up it looks that way too! Fantastic bike, if you’re undecided, buy it! You won’t regret it.

You can not register any MX bikes for road use, you can get recreational registration but that only covers 100km/h zones and dirt roads and what not. For rec rego all you need is 1 mirror, a horn, head light, tail light, number plate light and a horn. Bonus of rec rego is only around $75.

For full rego you want an endurance bike, something like a ktm 450exc, Honda crf 450x, Suzuki rmx450z, beta 480rr etc.

You need a horn, working high and low beams, blinkers, Blinkers, tail light, number plate light, and 2 mirrors, cost around $550.

You are best off getting a drz or something if you want to ride it on the road though unless you have money burning holes in your pocket, otherwise invest $300 of the $500 you would have spent on full rego getting a trailer, get rec rego and tow the bike to the bush with your car.

The only real option that works well is to wear your prescription glasses and get a tinted visor. Next time you buy a helmet, I suggest you look into one with a drop down sun visor like the AVG K5. I need glasses for riding and the drop down sun visor is something that is so amazing I refuse to buy a helmet without one now.

i wouldnt be riding a 250 endurance bike on the road too much maintenance, a 450 is going to be bad enough in most peoples books.
(oil changes every 1000-2000km, air filter every 3rd or 4th ride, valve adjustments every 4000-5000km, top end rebuilds around the same time as valve adjustment, next valve adjustment will be with a full engine rebuild including things like a new timing chain)

If we are talking something like a wr250f, crf250r or klx250 those engines will last forever.

You really do not need a bike like pic on the road, things a dedicated race bike for off road riding.

Try to find out what sunglasses commercial- or "hobby"-pilots use(fighter pilots have helmets with visors).
Personally, my helmet has a drop down sun visor. It´s Schuberth C3, abit pricey, but it´s really good. I asked for a recomendation from a motorcycle cop at a motorcycle trade show.

maybe look into an rmx450z.
can pick up a 2012 one with less than 50 hours for under 6k with registration.
personally if it was me and i was riding it how you want to, oil change every 2000km, clean the air filter when it is no longer sticky, piston and rings at 150 hours of riding (probably around 7500km), check the valve clearance at the same time, full engine rebuild at 300 hours, rinse and repeat, if you do more than 2 engine rebuilds the bike is never going to be worth selling though.

my 300exc is a forever bike because of that.

Can you reuse a pinlock insert? I want a tinted visor but don't want to take my insert out of my current clear one unless they're reusable.
>>
>>16775082
of course, you can just remove them to clean as well.

but dont put the pinlock insert in the dishwasher.
visor withou tthe pinlock is okay, but not the pinlock itself.
>>
>>16775088
Cool, thanks
>>
>>16775082
What use do you have for a pinlock on a tinted visor?
I thought about doing the same but then I realized that even if there's some cold it's in the evening and you have to keep the visor open anyway when it's dark, or if you prefer you can simply leave a little space to ventilate.
>>
>>16775100
I live in a colder area so it's cold during the day too, so having a tint would help the sun and having a pinlock would keep fog off the visor so I can keep it shut during the day.
>>
Does/has anybody here own a CBR 250r? Or have you ridden one? I'm taking the MSF course in April and there is usually a few of them for sale at a price I would bite at in my area. Pic related is a 2012 listed for $2,500 at a dealer.

Your thoughts are appreciated.
>>
>>16775100
Here in the winter you need a tinted visor more than in the summer, due to the low sun. But it's cold a moist, so you fog up like hell.

I ride with strong sunglasses, under my sun visor, with my visor open in the winter.

Should I go with a sport bike boot, or a touring/adventure boot? I'm shopping on Revzilla, and while the video breakdowns are very thorough, I'm having trouble differentiating between the two styles.
>>
>>16774560
During riding lessons I never closed my visor, because it would just fog up. Never had problems breathing.
I still do it, but now I have a massive windscreen so I don't get any wind in my face actually, causing the visor to fog up.

>>
>>16775207
don't buy anything that doesn't have some type of hard hinge or hard shell on it.

They will be useless at protecting your ankle without that.
>>
>>16774560
If if you just REALLY have to have that wind in your face and don't want a full face helmet, you could drop the money on some prescription Oakleys or something. I used to wear the Five-Squared that did really well for blocking wind from eyes but stayed on at speed. Any pair in that similar style, but with prescription lenses, would probably serve you well.
>>
>>16775207
touring adv boots should be a little more comfy for walking and likely more flexible all around.
and if you plan on adv riding in the future you might want something a little more offroad oriented unless you meant road touring only.
>>
>>16775235

yes they'll be fine, you don't need like a race boot, probably something like an SMX-6 would be okay.

not something you'll wanna walk around all day in generally because of squeaking and what not but I can't stress this enough you're just not getting ankle protection if you don't have that.
