The DRZ will probably still feel slower but the gearing is such on supermotos that it will accelerate better but limit the top speed. Most will do freeway limits fine but it will be buzzing stock and won't have much more left in it unless you're looking at a fair bit more displacement.

Just get a 701 or a 690 and call it a day. 76whp with intake, exhaust and Pirate Racing tune.
They're fat compared to a dirt bike but light compared to a Dorso, and the reliability is fine. The 690 has been used as an adventure touring bike for years, and the only significant issue with it was fixed a few years ago.

Is cleaning your chain a meme?
I've put on about 5000km and lube mine occasionally but I've never cleaned it. I don't even brush off the grime.
I only think that cleaning it with a solvent would wash out the lube that's meant to stay behind the O-rings and spread the grit around into places it wouldn't normally end up in.

I've only replaced one chain and that was after about 15,000km because it was stretched and I wanted to change up my sprockets, I used to use a toothbrush and kerosene to clean it.

>>16762587
>>16762591
I disagree, I think if you really put in the effort you could become strongly competitive at an amateur level at least but you will be putting your body and wallet on the line and at 28 you probably couldn't afford the time or expense or health to really be pro. Ride often enough, get in contact with experienced riders and coaches and critically improve yourself and you would become better than most.
>>
>>16762452
The only reason those exist is so that you can apply more steering force without accidentally applying throttle, and you definitely don't need that on a bike.
Also they're fucking shit.
>>
>>16762599
Only people who don't know how to properly relube the chain don't clean it out of fear they will mess it up.
>>
Full motorcycle leathers would be amazing in a zombie apocalypse.

Basically impossible to bite through, impact resistant, and still pretty movable.

>>
>>16762606
>>16762616
Ok, tell me how do you 'properly' clean it? My explanation is only a hypothesis.
Still going to only lube this chain and see how much it wears. I do check it often for any potential stiff spots and stretching. And I'd call chain wear that increases the total length of the chain ''''stretch'''''''.
The last chain on this bike could have still been used, it was well within the replacement spec (likely not even meaningfully worn since I never moved out the swingarm adjusters) but it wouldn't fit with the 52 tooth.

Warm up the chain by going for a quick ride

Spray it with wd40 and use a steel wire brush on it to clean it

Spray on:
Chain wax (For street)
Chain grease (For dirt)

don't put your fingers between chain and sprocket or you won't get them back.

It literally is a push one but the rubber is old and shitty, making this a gigantic pain in the ass.

Does anyone know how I fit my fly screen onto my bike properly?

It's one of these (universal fit).

I've actually screwed it on but it's not sitting there tightly, it's just sitting back on the dashboard because of gravity and air resistance.

Unless that's normal? There's a bunch of brackets but they don't fit on my bike (YBR 125).

>>
>>16762985
To add to that question: What is even the point of shorter levers? Surely you could simply grab the long lever closer to the pivot?
>>
>>16762989
Well, with a shorty lever, if you only use 1-2 fingers for whatever reason you choose, when you fully compress the lever, you're hitting your knuckles of the fingers still wrapped around the grips. Shorty brake levers are dumb imo, unless you have a very uhh, ~large~ front brake, as in, theres a ton of play in your level. And shorty clutch lever is 99% for wheelies.
>>
>>16762996
>when you fully compress the lever, you're hitting your knuckles of the fingers still wrapped around the grips
Fair enough, I did not think of that.
I guess if you ride a lot in cold weather you can keep your outer fingers from cooling down as quickly because you don't have to extend them (leading to increased convection), too.

I have a shorty brake lever for just that reason, I don't have nice radial master cylinder and 4 pot monoblocs but i brake with 2 fingers.

on top of that I just prefer the feel of a shorty, if I had an RCS19 and R6 calipers and had plenty of clearance at full braking I probably wouldn't bother though.
>>
>>16763000
Yeah I guess that's also a fair point. Though heated grips can be purchased for 50-80 bucks, good lever will run about the same and commonly more. And since your current levers work fine, while having no heated grips, you can see which is the smarter mod.

>>16763005
Yeah I suppose so, the two bikes I've had have really hard braking just before the lever hits knucle, so I've never needed it. That said, what's the lead up to a stoppie? Silly question, but I'm ~assuming~ it's a sudden force of brake, then let off a bit and keep it smooth and linear? Was just a thought I had now.
>>
>>16763011
Heated grips don't help if your fingers are extended m8. Source: I have heated grips and long levers.
Though it doesn't really bother me anymore, I'm happy with long levers.
>>
>>16762988
Will check him out thanks.
>>
>>16763018
I suppose that's true, then again I don't have my levers covered at all times, (which is a shitty thing I know) typically one finger on brake though, clutch nah.
>>
>>16763023
Neither do I but I do notice my fingers cooling down even when I only downshift 2-3 times when a town entry is coming up, and the air rushing by the grip cools that down too in addition to your fingers so they heat up slower as well. Riding through town you're constantly clutching too so that's no fun when it's around freezing.

>>16763011
If you want to roll one that's the way but I don't really roll them much because that's how you flip em, rolling stoppies for anything more than a few meters means you're near balance point and once you go past there's not return on a stoppie. That's why when you do a wheelie nobody fucking cares but people gasp in shock like they're about to see a death if they see somebody bust out a good stoppie.

I did a bunch of specific things like stiffening up my arms and trying to transfer weight through the bars etc, I asked my brother (who is obviously much better at stoppies) if he does anything like that and he just said he pulls the lever progressively on until it comes up, nothing specific at all.

So it all really just comes down to confidence on the lever and practice (he does them a few times every saturday, I stopped practicing them) end of the day.

>>16763029
Cool, thanks mang. I'm also wondering if this is better practiced in a nice soft field, but at the same time might make things jittery and the exact opposite of linear with the terrain
>>
>>16763040
I think to do stoppies on dirt you need to a few more specific things with weight transfer and what not to ensure the front hooks up enough at the moment of peak braking force (just before the rear lifts) otherwise you're just gonna wash the front out.

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJAvmhgP0h1AEKY8vTEJPJg

i'm sure these guys will have something about doing stoppies on dirtbikes.

ive set the preload properly but the previous owner had the suspension setup uneven on each side and now after riding it for a few weeks on stock settings i can feel an unsteadiness / bouncing feeling through corners, there are some bumps and dips common on the road so it's hard to diagnose. maybe the damping is too slow?

what bike you ride, footage of pictures of you riding and what settings you have would be handy here.

I would suggest doing a static sag test to set your preload then setting the rebound and compression to the middle or to factory settings.

If the bike is wobbling mid corner like that the bike is either rooted, a piece of shit or you're riding it wrong.

Because the nicest bikes in the world will bounce when being ridden one.

and if this is fucking shivvy again the problem is absolutely 100% how you fucking ride now hit the woodshed.

i think i make the problem sound worse than it is. the forks and the rear shock has been serviced by a shop. all settings at factory stock and sag test is done to set preload. fork settings feel very nice and it turns into corners great but as it apexes and comes out of corners the rear "wallows" a bit. i dont really have any trouble riding it but my last bike felt fairly stable through corners, this bike is a bit heavier and much more powerful though maybe it is just the weight. i will try making the rebound a bit faster or decrease rear damping that guide looks nice. the last owner had strange settings done though but only out by 1-2 turns really

Re: exhaust wrap, if your exhaust is regular steel, enjoy it corroding before your eyes. If it's stainless, enjoy irrepairably ruining the surface finish. I wish I was kidding.

I just want to do it because the pipe is cracked in to and I don't have the dinero to get it welded. I don't plan on taking the wraps off.

I'm the dude trying to buy the discount cb500f (quoted 17% APR).
I'm only considering the f because the regular cb500 isn't sold here. I'd take the 500 in a heartbeat.

You can bring it to a back alley repair shop and they'll do it for not much money. The ghetto is a marvelous place

If you have a hole in your exhaust it's gonna burn the wrap off. Speaking from experience.

cb500f has an ancient engine anyways, just buy a used one, it'll pretty much be the exact same.

I bought it for 800, rode it about 10-12k miles (speedo/odo broke 2k Mike's into owning it) and then I sold it to a guy who rekt it for 1200. Honestly, it was a fun bike and I thought it looked cool with the bar end mirrors.
