>tfw $500 to have a hardtop shipped to your house
>>
Alright lads. Just bought a 1990 shitter. It has 160k miles and has a fuck ton of dents. Probably been drifted cause the sides of the tires are torn to shit. But it was 1500 bucks and it runs. What's the first thing I should be doing to the car maintenance wise? Also the speedometer doesn't work and it makes a squeaky noise from the dash. Also the (literally) nigger put 17 inch wheels on it that rub the fender every time I turn. Thanks lads
>>
>>16551599
1. Post pics

2. Change fluids

Get smaller wheels to fix rubbing

That's about it tbqh. You can rebuild the shifter if you want. I hear it helps a lot
>>
the new miata is >cute
>>
>>16551599
Change the oil, swap out the wheels, inspect the brakes (especially with those larger tires, I've got money that the brakes are beat to shit), you may want to consider doing a timing belt, but since the 1.6 is a non-interference engine you're probably fine.

Those are the biggest things. Change the other fluids too, coolant flush, brake fluid, differential, transmission fluid.

Along with the bigger wheels, it could have caused some additional wear and tear on the front end, so it may be due for ball joints, wheel bearings, etc.

hey mg, i have an na miata and im gonna be getting rid of it soon to buy a newer car($10,000 budget+-) and i do alot of canyon/ downhill driving. my question is what should i get next im thinking of an nc club,s2000 ap2, or 350z. i live in california so if anyone can recommend a better option im open to ideas. wanna dd if for years and turn it to a track car down the line which is why im leaning to an nc(dat support). what would you guys do?

INB4 put 10k into na or turbo na. not gonna happen

S2000 is the next best thing. serious. NC Miata is ugly and is barely an upgrade.

350z is a meme car.

Are you implying all 3 of those cars dont have crazy aftermarket support? Esp the S2k???

I say NC. 2.5 swap is cool and the chassis is pretty good once you sort out the soft suspension. Plus they're still getting cheeper

Went down to Mazda a couple weeks ago and ordered a '17 GT, 6MT soft top. White with black interior.
Sold them my '06 987 Boxster S... Now the hard part... Waiting! My car isn't even being built until February, so it probably won't hit the port in Vancouver until April...

Feels good to be getting back into the fold, though. I had an '07 GT until I made the mistake of trading it in a '14 BRZ...

how would i find out what year and what kind of exhaust would fit on my miata its a NA with a bp 1.8 i bought it off ebay and the listing for the engine was 95-01 with a 6 speed swap on it if anyone can help me out on figuring out what kind of exhaust that can fit that'd be great right now it just has its maxim work headers and no exhaust.

Any wiring guru's? My tail light works but both rear break lights are out. Everything else including the hazards work but the rear breaks aren't working with the brake pedal.

I do hope this wire is the issue but i've looked around and i've got no bloody clue where it goes. It starts above the fuel tank also

Any advice is appreciated

After 7 years I just wanted a change, so I traded it in on a 2014 BRZ w/ Sport Tech.

I drove the BRZ for ~9 months before getting fed up and trading it for the Boxster.

BRZ
>no torque
>god-awful cheap plastic interior
>stock tires were beyond "low speed fun" and into dangerous territory

There were a lot of good things about it (CoG, chassis rigidity, engine rev'd like crazy), but in the end it wasn't for me.

This is my first car. Picked it up just a couple hours ago. It's a '97 M-Edition; paid $3600 for it. 130k miles but it's mechanically perfect. Brand new Nitto NT-450s, recently replaced brakes, brand new clutch. New top too. It's just gorgeous. I literally cried after I drove it home. Now I'm dying to get it registered, but I won't be able to until Saturday. I can't contain my excitement.

>>
>>16562845
Hardtops have more headroom than the convertible tops, if you have long legs, you might have to do the foamectomy to the drivers seat in order to fit. The only way to tell is to sit in one. I fit into my miata perfectly because I'm only 5'2"

The BRZ rode well and had great balance. If you can get past the complete lack of torque and the lackluster interior (and buy better tires), then it's a great ride.

I got rid of the Boxster because as nice as it was to have gobs of power, 12 way heated seats, big Bose system, full leather interior, etc etc... It was still a "big" uber-complex Germanmobile.
As much fun as I had, there was always the thought that at any second I was going to incur a $10,000 repair bill...
I never had a thought like that even once in my '07 Miata, and it was that fact that led me to sell the Boxster and order the ND.

Just did a fomeactomy on my seats in preparation for the coming season. Removed foam from the bottom instead of the top because of the seat heating, pulled the foam off with my fingers and I can't feel that the surface is somewhat uneven, gained maybe about 1" of headroom (but as a turbomanlet I did it mostly to sit lower).

>>16566223
No. The 1.8 clutch works better for high-power applications as it's bigger, but that also means that it's heavier and has more moment of inertia due the bigger diameter. I will and I know others that have converted their 1.8 to 1.6 clutches in order to get a more free revving engine.

I want to love the s2000, and almost everything about it is a direct upgrade to the miata, but the sole fact that its a honda is what turns me off so much about it. To the point where I would rather trade reliability and pay more for an FD than to be associated with those honda "people"

I feel the same way, but then I really think about what I hate more. The actual cars or the people that drive them and flex them.

I hate the fan base for honda, but I do like some of their cars. you can't say that the Teggie is not an iconic piece of ingenuity or that the NSX is an oversteering piece of shit
>>
>>16568538
after living in what is possibly known as the most notoriously awful area for honda enthusiast , they alone have forever tainted my view of the honda platform. You haven't seen bad until you've seen honda day in NJ/NYC up close and personal.

It's a damn shame. I want to love the honda platform, but me opening up to the fact that just driving to work every day in north jersey with an s2000, and having to deal with every piece of shit civic owner trying to race/instigate shit on my daily commute just irritates me from though alone.

I'm in foxboro. I've never encountered anyone online from MA that was near me. They are always either on the cape or as north as humanly fucking possible, both of which are a solid hour away

Do you drive without your front plate? I've been thinking of removing mine
>>
>>16568727
Not too far away. I'm in the Acushnet area which is about 45min from Foxboro. I haven't had a front plate on it in about 4 years, and I've never had any issues. I put it on for state inspection, then take it back off after. Now that I think of it, I don't think the car has been inspected in a couple years either.

Any tips for a first-time owner/clueless kid who got his hands on a mint Miata and wants to keep it for a while (but also have fun)?
>>
>>16569309
Keep up on maintenance, save up for quality parts even if it means you're waiting longer to get some cool mods, try to avoid stuff that permanently alters the car (and hang on to the stock parts) because it's likely that what you think is cool today you'll think looks stupid in a year.

In other words, keep the car clean and don't do shit can you can't undo.

for the money i've put into my miata i could have had a S2000 in reasonable condition.

part of me thinks i should have got the S instead, but the main reason for that is because it would hold its value better / "future classic". but i'm not sure if other people thinking it is more desirable is a good reason to get it when i personally prefer nearly everything about my car. the 40hp deficit is the only drawback i can think of.

Nah, they're shit. Drive in socks, you'll get good pedal feel and unless you sweat profusely, you won't slip off the pedals. Otherwise, get some $40 converse sneakers, those shoes scream teenager but they're surprisingly good for driving.

What are the best wheels and tires to run for hooning innawoods at irresponsible speeds?
>>
>>16573121
Got some MeisterR on my NB and I'm very very happy with the result. Can't find a single fault with them. They are light, they let you adjust the height without messing up the preload, the rebound control really works and has a very wide range so it can make the car more comfortable than stock or more bouncy than stock.
>>
>>16573540
most people on here run 15x7 wheels with 205 tires. your steering will be heavier and your ride quality will go down a little bit but it looks bad ass

if you're doing autocross or track days, most people like to run 15x8 or 15x9 wheels with 225 tires front and back. IMO this is completely unnecessary unless your car is turbocharged or significantly modified in some other way.

you just don't need that much rubber for only having 100hp at the wheels and your ride quality will be abysmal

so 15x7 205 is my recommendation
>>
>>16575617
>steering will be heavier and your ride quality will go down

the stock wheels/tires. which are 185s on a 14x5.5 for a NA

>>16575617
Personally been thinking about 195/50r15 instead of the 205/50r15. Tiers are about 1lbs lighter, smaller diameter for less rotational inertia, only 1cm less width, fits a 7" wheel better.
>>
>>16575655
those are completely fine too. some people just like the meaty look of the 205s. i just wish someone would have told me that the ride quality was going to go down the toilet.

Looking to buy a miata for relatively cheap, any tips on what to look out for when test driving the car besides the normal shit like knocking, rust, slipping, etc etc?

Also, is it normal for Miatas with 150k-200k miles going for 4k even when they look beat to shit? I was expecting to pay 4k for one in reasonable condition @ 100k miles or so.

Thanks for the help goys

Test drove an ND today
Even though it was an auto I was blown away by how good it felt. Peppy, nimble, light, engine didn't feel anemic at all. Felt way quicker than I anticipated too, even though auto ND adds a whole second to the 0-60 and puts it in the 7's zone. Ride felt decent for a sports car and storage was more than acceptable, considering.
Got in the RF as well, looked gorgeous but the top is a bit lower, even though I'm 5'10, my hair hits the roof. Also MASSIVE blindspots.

Problem is that 36k for the ND club with the brembo package is a whole lot of money for a miata. That's entering Porsche 997 Carrera S zone.
My dick says yes but my mind says no.

>>
>>16597598
seems pretty good
steering wheel looks a little bit too worn out for that mileage so you can knock off the price on that

as for the rest, it seems like somebody took care of it and didn't save money on maintenance
comes with the hardtop so that's also good but check in what condition the soft-top is

if you'll consider buying one install that original head unit and BBSesses right back on, especially the wheels
they are worth quite a bit of money and are way fucking better than these cheapo xxr both in specs and looks

all in all, haggling down to 6000$ would be fine unless you find something more
