bandit 1200
Already did that, but it doesn't help. Think about a swept back bar, rotating it down only pushes the bar down towards the tank, but doesn't change the strange wrist angle.

If you had a wide cruiser bar, sweep back makes sense because your forearms reach out from your torso to grab the wide bars. But with normal bandit bars, your forearms are paralell to the centerline of the bike. But your wrists have to angle outwards to grip the bars.

I've got almost all the fuel lines off. I have to figure out how to take the throttle cables off now. Then the carbs are getting a pine Sol soak.
>>
>>16475072
yeah it does

just take it to the extreme, imagine angling your bars back 45 degrees but they are still the same width as the bike. Your wrists are forced to point outwards.

Anyway handlebars are piss easy to change, it's no biggie. Just strange factory ergonomics, I don't understand how they settled on that design.
>>

Does it have the little bead ends? Hope so; that's easy if you can get a wrench/wrenches on the little adjustment nuts.

A question about fuel reserve....so if I understand what the Ninja FAQ says, when you turn the petcock from normal to reserve all it does is lower the pickup tube further down into the tank.
If this is the case, why is it necessary to have this setup? Couldn't they just make the fuel pickup extend further down by default?
Pic related.
>>
>>16475170
Because bikes generally didn't have fuel gauges, so when you ran out of fuel in the "on" position, you still had some reserve fuel to get you a fuel station.

those older BMWs are such a good buy right now. they are all over craigslist being sold in the low 4s and most of them are in absolutely mint condition. even back in the early 2000s, bmw was rocking heated grips and ABS before the stupid japs even knew what that shit was.

Helmet - <100 for full-faced helmet for a starter (My HJC-16 held up fine when I got t-boned)
Jacket - get two. I got a used leather jacket that is my go-to cold weather jacket for $35. You can get a three-season hi-viz jacket on sale for about 100 if you look.
Pants - 100 is probably right, maybe less on sale
Boots - 100

then get an 03+ sv650

and people will recommend it as a starter bike but dont forget that the sv650 is a fast bike. unless you have driven some really fast cars (you live in orange county so idk) you probably aren't gonna be ready for how fast it is at first, and it will power wheelie first gear.

So, I'm a poor cunt, and I'd like to get into bikes. I've worked on bikes a bit before, and I live in the US. I decided that my budget would be pretty low, at 1500. I don't wont to buy a sportbike, I'd like to get a standard (or something similar). My question is this: is it okay to get a bike made in the 80's/90's? My main issue with the budget is that I don't know how reliant old bikes are, I know they're a bit easier (not always) to work on than some newer ones, but I'm just worried that I'll have to be fixing mine constantly if it's some 86. Opinions and thoughts?

You should put some money aside for gear, you can probably afford a 90s thumper or ptwin/vtwin shitbike that should last just fine.

Almost any 80s Jap one or two cylinder motorcycle will be fine. Look around, you'll find a deal. That's what I have done with my last three bikes have cost less than 800 each.

Ausfag here.
Payed about 3.9k USD (4.6k AUD for baik, 500 AUD gear) for new 250 bike and basic gear (gloves, jacket, helmet).
Should be similar range in the U.S for a Ninja 300 a year out.
RC390 is what I wanted, but it's so recent there were no second hand models in my price range that weren't dropped or half-wrecked.
Ninja 300 is a decent choice, just be wary of the Kawa clutch and the surprisingly sudden powerband (~8.5k you'll feel it).

Car drivers are universally disrespectful of motorcyclists and don't understand that motorcycles are not cars, while happily driving with less than a door's worth of width between each vehicle when around other cars and muscling their way through lanes because "that's just how traffic works, i can't make the lanes wider and less crowded"

Did you record how many turns it took to tighten each adjustment screw down all the way before taking the carb apart so you could replicate the old settings? Because it sounds like it's running way too fucking rich when you try to start it. Insufficient air for continued combustion.

a lot of, if not most people could start on a 600 and learn to ride safely and quickly within the limits of the law on public roads.

but it's bad general advice because of that segment of people who would run straight off the curb, and bad advice for boyracers who want to learn to be better boyracers because practicing dragging your knee while cornering in the powerband of a 600 isn't the wisest thing you could do

But you dont understand how a cafe bike becomes a cafe bike?
Idk man. You sound pretty inept to me
>>
>>16477002
You dont even know that a there is no such thing as a cafe bike? Cafe racers were the people riding them, so its not the bike. Its the rider.

All the talk of reddit here made me decide to browse through the motorcycles subreddit. I've been posting there for a couple months now and noticed some very strange behaviors. When I post with actual facts that contrast their opinions I get downvoted every time. However all my blatant shitposts somehow get upvoted way too much.

A hipster cuck does some cutting on the frame and fenders, new handle bars, seat, removes the emblems ... all for a shitty lookalike of some 1960s bike that they can't even nail the aesthetics for

Literally a cuckbike

I was in trade school in the early eighties, several of my friends bought CX500's new, including one gl500 interstate. They really loved them, the bikes were as reliable as all get out despite being almost constantly crashed. I miss those days.
