If you ride a cruiser you're typically interested in comfort over the long haul and aesthetics. Hence people buying a Street Glide over a Concours, VStrom, or a Versys.

Wish I had a comfy garage or shed to work on my bike in.

Only have a cold, damp carport where I can't store my tools so I have to bring everything inside at night.
>>
>>16459883
and this is why, not being edgy here, I don't consider me and cruiser riders to share the same interest or hobby.

our vehicles might have two wheels but that's about where it ends, I like riding motorcycles apparently cruiser riders like looking at them.

Two completely different activities.
>>
>>16459890
A 4stroke 125 is only going to do 80mph if your're riding on a motorway with a serious tail wind and you can take about ten minutes to get to that speed. Or down a really long hill but it will still take a long time to get to that speed. You'll also more than likely be red lining the bike above 75mph.
>>
>>16459924
>10 minutes

>>
>>16459867
Any bike will break if you crash it hard, not saying the forks arent shit but odd are whatever happened in that crash would have fucked up any other brand as well
>>
>>16459924
yeah this is something I am confused about, when I took my bike to the mechanic to get fixed he mentioned that all 4 stroke 125s will have the same top speed, and the bhp is irrelevant.

Was he talking bs or is it true?
>>
>>16459848
Can dirtbikes be plated where you live?
>>
>>16459950
He means they are all slow and underpowered. A 125 four stroke will not do 80mph. It will blow up even if you manage to get there. Get a real bike.
>>
>>16459946
No its a common issue for rmx bikes to bend forks under normal use
That being said, i ran into the side of a ditch at full speed in 6th gear on my YZ125 years ago. Dead stop. Didnt bend or break a single thing, except my knee.
>>
>>16459923
Also not being edgy, how many 8-10hr days have you done in the saddle? I would be hard pressed to find anyone willing to subject themselves to that on anything close to a sport bike. It's like lifting. Powerlifters, bodybuilders, and crossfit failures all use free weights but to a different end.

Cruisers will take the leisurely two-up traveling and leave the performance to you boys. I always wave sportbikes ahead when I'm out riding anyway.

Pretty much. It might vary a little by bike due to aerodynamics and gearing but I would say for a 125 4t you're talking between 55 and 65mph. And that's with good conditions.

Cherry picking garage queen Harleys would be the same as me cherry picking liter squids who just make noise parading around downtown mainstreets looking for ass.
>>
>>16460083
But even in the case of a squiddy liter peter vs a cross country riding cruiser the peter is still a better motorcycle in every quantifiable metric.
>>
>>16460039
Agreed. In my defense most people know a lot of garage queen bikes (boomers with Harleys are often guilty of this) that don't see more that 10k miles in a decade before their sold to make room for a garage mechanic muscle car.

I like cruisers because muh floorboards, muh large saddle, muh neutral seating position, and yes even muh v-twin sound.
>>
>>16460101
And on this point I wholeheartedly agree with you. I never made a point for cruisers' performance superiority or a case for v-twins being better than inline fours. I'll leave the more affordable, better performing bikes to you.

HD was really the only cruiser brand for a long time. And your typical HD is the cliche boomer who does care about American made products as well as the character and mystique they carry. To each his own.

HDs aren't terrible as far as cruisers go. They're basically the Apple of bikes. Quality bikes, but way overpriced.

Research the cost on cycle trader and Craigslist. Ignore the haters. It's a good bike to get experience with, is reliable if well maintained, and easy to handle. Just don't expect to keep it too long, most people grow tired of the low power after a season or two.

The vulcan uses the engine from the ninja 650 and versys 650.

the ninja 650 weighs some 70 lbs less with the same motor, has heaps more cornering clearance and is perfectly comfortable.

If you want all dat "highway cruising long hauls git r dun boi" appeal then get the versys, it will be significantly more comfortable for the same weight, notice for example the rear suspension travel of the vulcan S, 3.2 inches, compared to 5.7 on the versys, plus the versys has a bikini fairing and windshield, an actually ergonomic riding position etc.

So as you see, if you don't care about comfort, there is a better bike with the same engine, and if you do care about comfort, there is also a better bike with the same engine.

Cruisers are for comfort not performance.

I try not to get all sperged out over this but looks are a matter of opinion. I personally cannot stand the way sportbikes look. They looks like jetskis or a basketball shoe with wheels (awful color schemes, awful designs, awful lines, plastic fairings). Looks are all a matter of opinion. I love cruisers because it's as close to owning a classic looking vehicle you can get with modern parts and reliability. Cars have too many safety regulations these days to every come out with a modern vintage whereas bike companies release them all the time.

Cruisers get plenty of women under 30. Not memeing here either m8.

tl;dr: Sport bikes easily beat cruisers for performance. The rest is a matter of taste.

miscallaneous sockets you didn't think you'd ever need (deep this, thin wall that) and ratchets in sizes you may not have had before, maybe another torque wrench. most people end up with three.

Nothing about rebuilding a 4 stroke is harder it is just more work to do and more instructions to follow.

What I4 should I get for my next bike DBT? Got a Striple at the moment, and sometimes I want something different.

Havent really rode much for dirtbikes, not sure what MN has for dirtbike tracks.

>>16461136
Tempted to, rode a few and they're quite fun. Not really interested in a GSXR. CBR 600RR would be other consideration.

I suppose I am open to just about any type of bike as long as it's a different fun than the Striple.

Just know they have very racy ergos so you'll either have to live with them or get some bar risers and a better seat for a couple hundred each.

The motor on the 2008+ bikes is a gem that is heavily restricted from the factory though for noise and emissions. But they are easily and cheaply tuned so you can unlock loads of power with a cheap header, cheap slipon, air filter, and cheap tune.

The SM version is a street bike.

That just means I get to grip the tank with my thighs harder or deal with tired forearms. I didn't know that the motor was restricted, I always figured that was just an AUS or European thing. Figured they dont care in the US. Good to know though.

The Euro bikes are actually less restricted than the US bikes. It mostly has to do with noise regs.

Pic related is the stock R6 throttle map. Notice only two cells give 100% throttle opening for 100% throttle input. Tuning opens it up across the rev range for big gains, especially in midrange.

So is this something I'll have to do on my own, or can I just take it into a dealer or some other place and tell them "Gotta go fast" and they'll fix me up?

Haven't done much more than some replacements, oil changes, etc. for my bike.

Take ECU out and send it to a place like Bauce Racing for a reflash and tune for $120. Receive back in a few days and go rip.

I recomend sending it after you've done all the supporting mawds you plan on doing. (exhaust et al).

He can even add quickshifter programming to the stock ECU if you get the sensor.

reminds me of a story I'd like to post because I used to hate my life and now I don't so I'm gonna jerk off to myself:

>girlfriend from sophomore year of high school through college graduation dumps me and starts fucking my (now ex) best friend
>all my friends who I introduced her to stop being my friends and be her friend because I don't have giant tits and a vagina
>wallow in depression for a month or so, contemplate suicide for a week or so as the break-up coincides with a rejection letter from a great company I wanted to work for
>say fuck it, I'm not a faggot, I'm going to learn to ride
>always wanted to ride, but never bothered to purchase a bike and get into it
>purchase a $1200 shitbike
>go ridan n shiet for a couple months
>meet cool motorcycle bros and make great new friends
>learn how to wrench on my bike and turn it into something I'm actually proud of
>get a new job with decent pay and isn't some bullshit dead end job like before
>get set up on a date with some chick I've never met through new friends
>ride to starbucks to meet her
>she shows up a few minutes later, holy shit it's a qt3.14 filipina chick
>we have a good time together
>she wants to go ride
>ride around town all of the following weekend
>blah blah cool stuff happens and we start dating, real sweet girl
>fast forward like 5 months
>still together
>happen to be riding by old job where ex-gf and ex-friends work
>see the dude who's fucking my ex on a lawnmower in 100 degree weather on Saturday
>ride up right next to him
>rev bomb and give him the finger

pic related, actual photo of me looking at my old ADP paystubs

This is pretty much exactly what happened the first time we broke up, except I also worked with him and ended up getting fired from a really good job and being depressed and useless for 6-10 months.

Problem is, I just bought a new bike last week, so can't just buy another bike to forget her. Fucking bitch ruining my new baiku honeymoon period.

The 06+ R6's also come with a huge muffler/cat box under the bike that weighs a ton. But at the same time the previous generation header fits the bikes with a little modification.

So people do the "05 header mod" where they buy an 05 and earlier or an R6S header (~$60)and mount it to their bike. This eliminates the muffler box restrictions and the cats opening up the exhaust. From there pick a slipon you like and you get a poor mans full system. They also sell MJS headers which are more expensive but are pretty much the same thing.

>>16461317
>600 i4s already slow down low
Compared to a literbike maybe, they're not slow by any stretch.

Also, funny thing is the R6 is still competitive with other 600's through the midrange before their derestricted.

Don't think other manufacturers with electronic throttles aren't doing the same exact thing. Electronic throttle is behind the curtain cuck technology. Luckily it's easily fixed, at least on Yamahas.
