Rock climbing, mainly. Flexing and also just clearing areas that some IFS doesn't allow for because you can't flex over rocks or through ditches.

>>16451523
Not unless you're doing a sand jumper or smooth trail runner.
>>
>>16451953
>SFA
Better for Crawling as you get more flex, more durable construction, and there's never a spot on the truck lower than the axles.

Downside is that to gain more travel, the truck must be higher off the ground, making it more top-heavy and unstable.

>IFS
Better for Prerunning because the two front wheels can independently drive over uneven sand terrain without sending the truck into a barrel roll. Long Travel suspension has the advantage of having loads of travel without making the truck much taller

Downside is that these trucks can easily bottom out if one or both front arms are at full compression, so they're no good for more aggressive crawling.

Bear in mind that both setups can do both Prerunning and Crawling, and it's only once you get into the more extreme circumstances that one overtakes the other in its respective terrain.

Discussion's over.

yeah but the best thing about solid axles is the travel, just not UP travel, solid axles can have 3 times as much down travel then up, making the vehicle sit lower, be more stable and able to droop into obstacles, and over all be more safe.

Weed in a 15ml vial should keep it smellproof and keep in the moisture. I can also make a makeshift pipe with tin foil and a metal fork so you don't need to bring "paraphernalia". I personally don't like weed either but at least you can "drive" on low doses of weed instead of alcohol. Also as you mentioned - space saving is a bonus.

Also, if your phone dies, you can just charge it. I also can't just go outside and hatchet the cables so we go "oops our phone died". It's not like it was before where if you're lost, you're truly lost.
Now, you're just "one GPS dot away from the highway" lost. Which is boring here since dirt paths travel all across mid-Ontario...

If you want to come up to Canada before April, the s n o w r o l l e r s will be fired up until then! Might be far trek for nothing to do... but c'est la vie en leafville.

How much clutch ease do you all give on rough terrain? I run 2wd along a terrain but there's a swampland eating into the path near my friend's farm that's eating more and more into the trail. So I have to do 4wd a few times when I get stuck on a really muddy day and I'm finding myself trying gearing much lower by only easing the clutch out instead of having it fully engaged but I'm doing this for a full 10 minutes before I can fully release the clutch again.

How do I prevent clutch burn this way or is it inevitable? That mudding engine steam after I leave the swamp is really spooking me, too.

Should I just dismount and buy an ATV at this point? I don't think this is good for my clutch.
>>
>>16453495
Buy an automagic.
>>
>>16453495
Skip 4hi and go to 4low from the start the gear reduction alows you get going without having to slip the clutch as much.
>>
>>16453542
This. No shame in using auto off-road
>>
>>16453495
Also some foresight goes a long way. If you think you'll need 4wd to get through something go ahead and put it in 4wd before you head in and with a manual trans you have to pick the gear you want before you start in as shifting mid way through will cause a los of momentum and you'll end up stuck. In 4low you can get away with starting in 2nd if you want to hit it a little harder

Personally the only time I use 4hi is if I'm traveling a long stretch of sand as I can keep up a higher forward speed, for everything else there's no reason to not use 4low from the start
>>
>>16453732
X2

It's better to overkill before you need 4lo than to realize too late that 4hi isn't enough

There are a bunch of weird "trails" in Ontario that goes: Gravel >mud >rock >mud >granite >beaver dam >gravel >road.
Also in the sand dunes and beaches in central south Ontario, it goes (itgoesitgoesitgoes): sand>mud>sand>road

4H is what I am normally on if there's a lack of mud.

Thanks for the quick responses! I thought that we were supposed to start out in 2wd until you get stuck.

Also stupid question but since I'm h-here: Can you change to 4wd-H or 4wd-L in motion or does the stick break? I've always been too afraid of touching the stick while the car is moving forwards.

What about gravel or dirt roads on 4wd-L?

>>16453542
I would but I don't do a lot of mud or offroading and being Manuel is way too fun.
>>
>>16453840
Generally you can switch between 2wd and 4hi while in motion but 4low you need to stop, put trans in neutral then switch into or out of 4low

Protip most 4wd vehicles have instructions on the back of the drivers side sun visor

2wd is fine for dirt roads and such, if you're having trouble staying moving at the pace you want go ahead and use 4hi unless you want to creep then go 4low

What does /ORG/ think of the new taco? I'm getting a new job and I'm planning on buying new with the 6 speed since I can't find any used with the manual. I have a friend with the auto off road and his only complaint is fuel economy. I've also heard some of the electronics are finicky. Also what's a good price right now? I see the off road is at dealers for 37k (in AZ).

Edit: looked at truecar and found one used 2016 but the rest just show all the new dealer cars

Personal opinion, but the more systems there are the higher probability of failure. Doesn't seem worth it just for something like crawl control or the like

Crawl Control is magic but you can't permanently turn Traction Control off unless you pull the right fuses
>>
>>16453957
Crawl control is magic if you're a complete fucking noob and have no idea what you're doing. To anyone that has a general sense of how not to lose traction or at least how to regain traction, it's really not useful. It's like auto throttle, brake, and steer in Forza. If you really need those handicaps, then you don't use them often enough to justify paying more for them.

You're talking about buying an off road edition and planning on 4x4, why would you want the manual with that? The automatic is objectively better.

You want the vehicle to control throttle and brake but you want to shift? I'd rather control the throttle and brake myself and let the computer shift.

Yeah shitty deal, there's a huge abandoned gold mine out here that I've spent a lot of time exploring and rippin' around at over the last 2 years, it was a very popular spot for off-roaders for a very long time. Some fairly new mining company has set up shop there for the foreseeable future, the entire mountain road is locked down now, was really looking forward to bring Big Red there for the first time this summer.

Is the international Ranger the same body and chassis as the Explorer pickup. I'm also sure that the Exploder pickup has filled the void of an "alternative pickup" left by the discontinuation of the 5th gen NA Ranger.

I still don't get why they discontinued the Ranger after the first year of rebound sales (2011 sold a lot more than 2010). Especially it being that iconic. I mean, the Dodge Viper had to dip down the 4 digit sales before they discontinued the "iconic" model. And it was in production for much less time than the Ranger.

On the Bronco, I heard some guy on Normiebook say something reasonably correct: "If the top comes off the Bronco, they wouldn't be able to make enough of them. If it's a one piece , then they'll just be gorging the crossover market with another body that won't be able to handle it." rephrased.

>Is the international Ranger the same body and chassis as the Explorer pickup
No. It isn't you fucking imbecile. That generation of Explorer wasn't a unibody crossover anyway AS IT WAS BASED ON THE NORTH AMERICAN RANGER.
The international Ranger has always been its own platform.
Get a clue before you get an opinion and stop taking vague references of Facebook as gospel. There's a place for a new Bronco the same way there was for the FJ Cruiser.

I thought the Explorer sport was its own weird design when the Explorer was on the Ranger platform. It made no sense to me why they were selling the exploder trucks at the same time as the Rangers if that were the case. Sorry :T

The only thing we were trying to state with the Bronco was that we hoped it was on the truck platform and doesn't come out as a unibody like some of the modern SUVs. FJ Cruiser is a good example of that.

Checking out the 4x4 section on Craigslist, not sure what to get. I don't want to get a cherokee or other Jeep, my brother has one, but I cannot deny the wrangler.

What can I do for say, 2 grand in tax money? I can up the price but cheaper is better. Pretty much just light offroading (long, muddy farm driveways) and snow driving are my goals.

I'd hate to get a Jeep and just "blend in" with everyone in my area, if that makes sense. But it is what it is
>>
>>16465202
Wait, are you confusing the terminology "unibody" in reference to the difference between a removable bed cap and a fixed roof design? If that's the case, I'd still favour a fixed roof that's able to bare a significant load in the way of a roof rack system over a novelty removable roof.
Id like to see in essence what the new FJ Cruiser was, with a Ford badge and a V8 (with the 5 cylinder diesel Ranger engine as an option).

>>
>>16466738
I DDd a Suburban on 37s before I tore it down for the SAS. Even with a shit part time job I was never hurting for gas or food. I'd worry more about purchase price and capability than fuel economy. If it'll do better than 12 around town and better than 15 on the highway and does everything you need to at a good price I'd say that's worth what you're paying in fuel, which really isn't much more than what people are paying in fuel for much smaller, shittier trucks and SUVs. A reliable platform can more than offset the difference in fuel costs for most people.
>>
>>16466777
In real world usage the I4 mini trucks are often worse on gas and less reliable than the same truck with a V6 because the engine has to be run a lot harder to get the same amount of work out of it. Same holds true for V6 vs V8 fullsize trucks in the work fleet.

Disco I's are pretty nice trucks. They can take a pretty good beating off road, and are rather capable, my dad never got stuck with his. We had some fuse box issue with ours but besides that we never really had a problem.

Parts are easy to get and not that bad price wise, more expensive than a Jeep but not too bad. There are a couple parts places in New England that specialize in Land rover parts and they have just about everything you need in stock.

I really like the Discos since they have rugged, hard plastic valences that protect against most rock damage as opposed to the other offroad capable models except for Defender.

Their roof strength is also ridiculously good if you've seen pictures of rollovers. I saw a picture of someone put a tent over the top and crawl in through the skylight. Then use the vehicle's heating to heat up the tent for comfy camping. That was really neat.

Otherwise, just suffers from most Land Rover flaws in terms of sourcing expensive parts and hard pressed to find some people who can communicate with the computers for a cheap fee. They're disliked a lot since it's harder to wrench on them yourself and the air suspension can be annoying to work with (tho I can't remember what the Disco suspensions were).
They're comfier than Defenders, though!

Also, I'm not even sure how you'd go about lifting these and getting larger tyres because of the way the rock guards and wheelwells are set up. It could be kinda annoying but it does have more of an "overlanding" aesthetic to it, of course.
>>
>>16467651
>air suspension can be annoying to work with

All Disco I's and most II's don't have air suspensions. That was a Range rover thing back then. And even so, you get a coil spring conversion kit and that eliminates all suspension problems.

Yeah. We want to drive through the Trans Canada highway and shower in rivers and kill duck for food in the summer. I could if I get someone to take over my biz for like 3 weeks.

I'd much rather do it in winter, though. Anchorage down to the oil wells and then down the two plains provinces and back into hometown turf. The plains and northern forests are nice for overlanding because of the clay-esque consistency of soil mixed with the enormous fields of nothing that appear. The lack of rain also makes a lack of sudden swamplands that eat your vehicle whole. That's a bonus.

Er. I was describing the progression from the West coast back to my home by taking the Canadian roads (or lack of road;).

The plains provinces would be Alberta, Sask, and Manitoba and if you're on TCH 16 from Jasper National Park down to Ontario, you'll find little to no rain.

From what I hear, unfortunately, you won't be able to do a lot of actual offroading to get from point A to point B without making use of the TCH bridges. But you can for sure borrow some of the fields just north of the areas especially if you go when the average temperature is -5

Make no mistake, they're purpose built midsize trucks, and the 3.2 five cylinder diesel in them these days is an absolute gem.

It is literally a bolt in. While I don't want to speculate on electrics without being able to give you a 100% accurate answer, I would be surprised if wiring was much more than getting the dash instrument cluster to work with the new motor. There may be ancillary systems like a glow plug circuit to worry about, although this can be overcome with either a push button setup or an aftermarket timing module.

Exclusion is not always exceeded by a pretentious intent. Pretentiousness normally comes when the exclusion has tighter restrictions upon its membership either in scarcity, cost, or location.

Jeep CJ-5s and older meet-ups can be pretentious. Jeep meet-ups are normally not. Bentley meet-ups can be pretentious. Fox-body and old Camaro meet-ups are normally not.

The average man can and a lot of the time do buy Jeeps and TayYodas. This is what prevents them from being "pretentious".

Who the hell is showing off their taco or ranger to get chicks or boipucci, anyway?

Also regarding the "importing", he should know that those kinds of fees are just things you eat because you want the specific vehicle and no one else does. This is the same with like adjustments and "builds". Just call him a d'weeb and make him drop it even more.

>google seems unreliable
Do you mean that Google says they're unreliable or that google itself is unreliable? For $6000, you could easily get a more capable roader or a more common (and thus probably easier to maintain) Samurai of the same price.

Plus how silly will you look putting 91 petrol into your Suzuki Samurai? Last point: automatic would probably be the deal breaker for me, desu senpai. Samurais are offroading mountain goats not luxury SUVs. Their suspension is arguably worse than the old XJs and other Wranglers. I didn't even know they made these things automagic. Went SNOWROLLING tonight. Actual county road that apparently everyone forgot about. Had to get up a 20° Slope of pure ice. Failed the first shot and slid a quarter of the way back down. 2nd try in 4x4 was the charm. I wish you anons were closer it sucks trailing alone :-(

>>16470695
Pretty much what >>16470916 said. A 6.5 turbo is a bored out 6.2 with a turbo slapped on.

A big headache for the 6.5s is the fact the turbo and more importantly the fuel injection pump are computer controlled. There are several sensors and electronic components for the injector pump that go bad, most commonly the optical sensor and the PMD driver.

After much research, there was a mechanical Injector pump offered, mainly on the Humvee and IIRC the cargo vans. People have swapped in the mechanical pump from those to circumvent these problems, but it gets complicated... and I'm still not sure if it can be done on an OBD2 motor like mine.

Not sure if that would pertain to a 6.2/6.5 swap or not...

I agree. Wiring mess. Like mentioned earlier, you can swap a DS4 with a DB2, and 90% of all problems with a 6.5 are solved. The kicker is the needed TCM and getting it to talk with your PCM. I've seen it done on OBD1 trucks, but haven't heard of a OBD2 swap yet, but I admit I haven't fully researched the topic yet. I hope it can be done because I want to ditch the DS4 and the headaches associated with it. But this topic is a bit above /org haha.

Generally Defenders just maintain their value, ours is one of 500 that were specially built for the reintroduction of Land Rover North America in 1993. They were the only 110s ever imported and sold by Land Rover in the US.

As for plans, just fix it up a little and continue driving it. Needs a clutch and the rear cross member of the frame needs to be replaced.

This is it. A RHD 24 volt former military radio truck.
>>
>>16473491
That's fucking sweet ride. I'd be too afraid to ding it or drive it in salt if that were the case, though. 24 volt would be nice for my weird overlanding needs but damn does it just seem like a money pit to operate and later find parts for.
How expensive has it been over the years?
>>
>>16473596
Not very expensive at all. Parts are readily available from 2 different suppliers in New England. The most expensive thing about it is the 24 volt electrics. Special light bulbs, spark plugs, alternator, ect. But on the plus side the 24 volt systems are heavy duty and very rarely have problems.

As for driving it, it's a truck it's meant to be banged around a bit. Remember that Land Rover bodies are aluminum so salt is less of an issue than it is with a steel Ford or Chevy. And being a military truck if you chip the paint you go out with a paint can and a brush and touch it up.
>>

My radio can do vhf and uhf but I mostly use the racing/weatherman channels which are nice because they're technically out of the ham range so I don't need a license.

Only downside is they're vhf (like 150-160 range) so they don't carry well through obstructions, so I have to either be in the open or fairly close to other radio users in my group

Hey guys.

Just got this 2007 Nissan Xterra Off Road edition. It is pretty sweet, 6 speed manual, 280ftlbs of torque, and a rear electronic locker.

Problem is the 4wd isn't working. The transfer case is shifted by an electronic motor mounted externally. The motor is run off of some relays which are actuated by a selector switch in the cabin.

The truck was stuck in 4Hi. Previous owner said it needed a new electronic transfer case shift motor. I replaced the motor today and it didn't really fix the problem. The 4wd is still only working intermittently, that is it will only successfully shift the transfer case about 1/5 times. Any ideas what might be the issue? I've got replacement relays coming in soon.

Also what do you guys think about the front bug deflector on the hood? Take it off or leave it?

Go for the license man! The technician license classification is super easy to get. You'll just have to know the fundamentals of radio theory and operation. Then go take the exam. Costs $30. Every good off-road convoy needs a radio guy!

And you're exactly right. Radio waves in the upper spectrum are more easily affected by obstructions, but less so by atmospheric conditions.

>>16474009
HF (high frequency) is the frequency range between 1.8 mhz and 30 mhz. The HF range is then divided into "bands", that are named/described by the wavelength. i.e. 10 meters, 20 meters, etc.

>>16474009

Within the HF range, many services are found, ranging from civilian comms, military comms, and commercial services. The CB (citizen's band) radio band is found on 11 meters for example. Licensed Ham operators use the 10, 12, 15, 17, 20, 30, 40, 60 80/75, and 160 meter bands within the HF range. In the US, you must hold a "General" class operator's license to transmit on the HF bands (with an exception for Tech license holders on a portion of 10m.) You are encouraged, however, to explore the bands and listen on them regardless of whether you have a license or not.

>pic related, my desktop ham radio setup.
>>
>>16474009
>>16473943
And one more thing before I go to bed:
If you are licensed, you can utilize "repeaters" in your local area.
So instead of being limited to direct line-of-sight communication (simplex), you can have access to a powerful repeater's entire range of coverage. You'll find much more radio traffic on these.

Another thing about being licensed, you are limited to 1500 watt output rather than the 5 watts that are allowed to unlicensed civilians.

Oh jeez, I should just stick to recent pictures. That's from last fall when I upgraded my brakes to Tundra 13WL calipers and rotors

But yeah I only really use the radio with the rest of my group (rather, the few others who have radios), so we just decide on a frequency and use that for our trip, which is why I'm not too concerned about using repeaters like >>16474104 suggested. (cool desktop setup btw)
>>
>>16474278
Did you need to change the calipers or you just decided to upgrade? What pads do you use?

Also does the e brake system fail as hard as it does on the Taco as well?

I wanted to do the upgrade for a while since the old calipers and rotors were pretty shit considering the weight of the truck. Basically I did the full upgrade once my stock pads were worn down enough to justify a brake job, but the system worked fine otherwise. I forget the brand, but I'm running ceramic pads.

With the e-brake, my truck just use a cable to engage the rear drum brakes so there was no effect on that whole system, which works pretty well even with the weird-ass brake lever.

ABS is unaffected also (though it turns off anyways when I engage my locker), and my only problem is that now I'm at a higher risk of braking my tie rods if Im stationary and I steer with the brakes applied

I don't think I have ever seen Chains on anything other than driving wheels. So you may be good? I've never driven with Chains so I don't know what to say... Are you going to be in the mountains?

You should be fine as long as you use common sense and are careful. Just behave and drive like your tires have a quarter to a tenth gripping power as dry pavement. This means stopping and steering early and lightly, and most important of all, SMOOTH AND GENTLE steering/throttle/brake inputs.

Ye it's gonna be up in the mountains (I'm going skiing with some family and I'm taking the Taco so I wont be off-roading).

With the chains I was thinking I would need traction on my front tires so I don't understeer everywhere, but now that I think about it they'll probably act kind of like rudders to push the snow and steer like that.

So basically drive like I'm on bald tires in the rain, don't go too fast, and don't rip a hektik skid off of a cliff. Seems straightforward enough.
>>
>>16476166
Why do you have chains? Just throw weight in the bed unless you're climbing unplowed mountains

California requires me to have chains or 4x4 if there's more than like two feet of snow since I don't have snow tires and they don't salt the roads this far south (thank god)

>>16476166
It'll be fine. It's harder to drive in mud than snow and do the sand thing if/when you get stuck (bring it down to 20-25PSI). Chains should be good enough especially if you have them stacked already.

You might want to consider putting chains up front if it doesn't cost you much. People say it's useless if you don't have front powered drive but I've found it better to control in my old 2WD Colorado.
Be careful with turning on ice, though. That's the only time I would prefer power steering is when the chains have dug deep enough into lake ice and you need to do a turn from stopping.

>>16476934
>>16476949
Having chains gives you amazingly impressive control. I loved it. I used to have this belt studded black set for my Colorado until I no longer needed them for the Ranger.

But now, I can't run chains on my 32 Duratracs unless I get the front keys swapped out and maybe a one inch lift. With the winch, I don't really need them anyway but you just end up missing what you don't have );

Also, some people don't know this but chains can help in the mud and non-rock-donminated technical paths. Also, if you're stuck with chains, you can attach a quartered tree into the individual chains and get unstuck that way.

Spin tyres to get the chains wrapped around your back tyres and then you can add sticks to them. They're more work than traction aids but since you're in California, they'll definitely unstuck you from mud if you are ever in a literal rut.
>>
>>16477101
On and on the note of getting stuck, be careful when you've locked your differentials are are stuck on a patch of ice. You can have three stuck wheels and one that's dug through the snow.

-If you're on pavement, that can destroy one of your tyres freespinning to get unstuck.
-If you're on snow on top of ice, it can quick melt the ice underneath which can actually be to your advantage.

You'll probably be with someone with a spade (not a shovel. don't bring use a flathead) so that occasion should never arise. Plus you have chains too. But it's just good to know in case anyone else here is having issues with the snow this winter.

Be safe out there, guys! It's raining really hard and +4 degrees here for some reason. Melted all the snow.

eHam has a ton of helpful reviews of all sorts of amateur radio equipment.

Pick up a copy of the ARRL Technician License Manual. This will prepare you for the exam. Your local library may have a copy if you don't care to buy one.

Does it handle like shit? Break easy? Typical bad owners? Chink interior?

I know it's 15~mpg but that's not bad. How have I overlooked this for so long?
>>
>>16479618
>What exactly is the catch?
Weak transmission and rear axle in the 1500. These can both be replaced with stronger parts with a ~$500-1000 budget.

Or even better, you can buy a 2500 to start with (usually for the same money) and not worry about either of these issues at all since they're both fixed on the 2500. As an added bonus, the larger front diff in the 8 lug models has options for aftermarket lockers, whereas the 6 lug models are essentially stuck with an open front.

Then it comes down to supply/demand and public perception. People think they're a LOT bigger than they really are and as such also think they're far worse on gas than they really are. And of course the market is and always will be full of them due to how many were sold.

>>16479592
Interior is comfy as shit. Escalade seats aren't too hard to swap in and are even better.
If you get lucky you can find conversion models done up by Centurion, Trailmaster, etc. with nicer leather seats, wood trim, TVs and such.

I have so much research to do.

Literally have no clue what Dana 60 shit is. I got the coil over part though
>>
>>16479693
It's a gm. Expect a grounding problem at some point to cause weird but harmless shit. The engine will run till the sun burns out, the trans will go before the engine, but the rear axle is a little small. I'd go for the 2500 series, but remember, on the 1500 you can easily find manuals to swap in. For 2k though, you can abuse it like a red headed stepchild
>>
>>16479693
>Does it handle like shit?
Handles far better than you'd expect for a "large" SUV. It's tiny by fullsize truck standards but available with 3/4 ton suspension.

>Break easy?
Yes to trans and rear end on 1500s. No to everything else and definitely no on the 2500s unless you get a 6.5 diesel with the electronic injection.

>Typical bad owners?
Generally great owners. And good low end power means you don't have to dog them to keep up with traffic.

>Chink interior?
Not at all.

I'm pretty excited. Might not be a super personal vehicle (no cool paint job or extensive customization) but I do need/want a badass truck to take me xc this spring into summer. Thanks bros.

Where would I start with swaps if I can't find a good 2500? As in is there a Bible?

1500 is powered by a small block chevy. Apply any small block trans. Also, the suede interior was the best ever. Like driving a supportive lazyboy.
>>
>>16479730
>Where would I start with swaps if I can't find a good 2500?
Six lug 14 bolt for the rear end. Check junkyards, CL and localish FB groups. They're generally $200-300. You'll probably need a conversion U joint.

For the transmission, you'll want a 4L80e if you want to stay automatic, or NV4500 if you want to swap to a manual. You should be able to get everything you need from most any pick n pull type junkyard for $200-400. I'd check forums for info on wiring for the 80e. Both swaps have been done countless times so the info is out there.

Dana 60 is a tough as shit axle. Replacing the front independent suspension will make it a moderately more capable offroader.

Also look up the red ARB diff. cap. They look really nice if you're going to the trouble of fitting a Dana 60 under your "small" trucc

(The tow capacity is 6000lbs same as my Ranger so technically it's still a small trucc!!)
>>
>>16478838
You could do a Solid Axle Swap like everyone's suggesting

OR you could swap some King, Icon, or Total Chaos Long-Travel front suspension and upgrade your rear shocks, leaves, and shackles (or better yet, rear trailing-arm conversion) to do hektik jumps in the desert. Top it off with some fiberglass fenders, a low profile bumper, and enough lights to illuminate the moon, and you have one kickass setup

Here's a question. How do you guys deal with your burbs in the winter? Let it idle for like 5-10 minutes before going or do you just suck it up and wear full jacket?

Personally, I despise wearing a jacket when driving since the tails always get caught on my right arm or left arm when turning. Shit triggers my autistic OCD down syndrome.
If it's -10 out, I'll even wear my sweater to the vehicle and pull over once it's warm to take it off and drive only with out the hassle.

Such is the life in a cab.
>>
>>16479861
Kinky, but if you want sure. Just realize, it's a long fall back down. Front bumper is about 3-4 feet off the ground. The drivers but is 6 foot in the air or more.

I like this idea!
You can do a winch bumper swap and attach as many fog and spot lights to it as you want. Thsi way, when you're doing the wiring on the lights and winch, you can do a comprehensive check of the undercarriage and bay using your manual and see what all the little gizmos do.

(Fog) lights, (go pro) camera, action!

Being a diesel she can get a bit tempermental if the weather is ridiculously cold, so I usually let it run for a minute or 2 to get the oil flowing. I'm gentle on her until she warms up though.

I can usually get a bit of heat in about 2-3 minutes. I can get comfortable in 5-6, and it gets too hot and I need to turn the heat down/off within 10-20min depending on the weather.

With that in mind I just suck it up and complain about not living somewhere warmer. Not sure what you mean about tails... I'm fine in my leather coat/jean jacket. I have my ski jacket too, but I never wear it while driving... too puffy.

>>16479618
Those have 6.5s in them and can be a major headache if electronically controlled. See >>16472986, >>16473071, and >>16473347.

Only other catch I can think of is the weak spots like >>16479696 said. Fuel economy isnt the greatest... I can get 16-20mpg in the 6.5. My old 350 would get 13MPG no matter what, which isn't bad considering what they are.

>>16479592
They're pretty good interior wise! My previous 95 was leather and super comfy. My current was beat to shit living life as an ambulance but the seats are still comfy as fuck. My current has only 3 seats at the moment and is far more utilitarian though (from ambulance days), but still comfy. Inside I use it more as a mobile storage unit while I daily it as it awaits the full on oberland build.

Handling is what you would expect for a truck. Just don't expect or treat it like a Miata or a BMW and you're good.

>>16479730
Glad to hear! Though I think Burbalade was more help than I was as I was late to the party. You can find more if a personal truck if you look hard though. The conversions typically had the "90s" pinstripe paint styles. You wouldn't see yourself on the road in town haha.

Help me get into offroading, friend of mine had a bronco then sold it and picked up a baja bug.

Bronco's are dirt cheap, but I like the novelty of a baja bug

Broncos on CL in SD go for around 500 while the lowest baja's I can find are going for 1200.

I feel like the Bronco is the most practical choice for my weekend excursions, but the bug feels like it would be more "fun" in a sense atleast from what I've heard.

I'm going to mostly be in dune country btw

In all honesty don't see why I should pay more than 1k on a weekend warrior toy, but baja bug's are just so aesthetic.

Which one can I fulfill my dream of being a rally driver more?

Which is more fun?
