Pic related makes 276 hp and has 290 km/h top speed, supposedly they were the most aerodynamic cars of their time.

This is why we need to import millions of poor people from africa & the middle east. If there is more poor people the average amount that someone pays for rent will have to go down as that is all they will be able to afford

We cant give money to renters because that will encourage owners to charge higher amounts of rent without forcing them to increase supply of low cost housing or lowering rental costs

Should I buy into gold anons? Coming into 2017 I've realized the economy has been too stable for far too long.

How do you buy gold here anyway? Do you get it on hand or as a piece of paper?

That's what I'm trying to avoid. I wish to invest in something independent and tangible from the current economic model. So of the current market and fiat currency's do collapse as so many people have wrongly foretold I will still have gold on hand which will hopefully regain it's value.

This isn't intended to be an investment, merely security if the tinfoils are correct
>>

In that case, yes physical gold, silver, platinum etc are good. But note that theyre currently overpriced.

There are a shitload of Australian ETF's that allow you to track specific commodities, indices or industries.

http://www.betashares.com.au/products/

Look at the gold, oil and agriculture ones.
>>
>>16428083
Theyre fantastic if you care about their relativity to the economy. Original question was more about dystopian future with mad max tier economy - physical is better
>>
>>16427748
What you're after is a Saab 9-3 convertible, preferably the Aero over the base trim. Though have a look at the early 00s models as well. I reckon those still have a real 90s vibe to them (and even the more modern 9-3 convertible feels more like something out of the early 00s design-wise) and the taillights look better.
>>
>>16428102
>>
>>16428094

Buy Silver at $10, Buy Gold at $800-$900 and buy Oil at $27.

The problem is the AUD will sink to 50-60 cents if these prices are achieved, which effectively doubles their price in our money. So you need to invest in the USD now.

There is a USD ETF btw.

As for physical, I just bought 1KG of silver for $720+$18 postage from private forum called silverstackers in Australia.

Physical gold is not cost effective to buy physically until you start sinking $50,000 for a 1KG bar, the premiums are just too high on the 1oz stuff in Australia.

>Of course, I'm no economist and known nothing about it but I can't imagine gold or other precious commodities completely tanking and not coming back

If you bought gold in 1980, you would have paid $800 USD per ounce.

It would have taken until 2008 for you to get the same amount of money for that ounce of gold.

You have to understand the commodity you're investing in and understand why the commodity rises in the first place.

Listen to them.

the clutch is not an on and off switch, and neither is the throttle. Learn the friction point of the clutch and practice it enough so you know where it is automatically.

Don't worry about stalling, it happens and it's not a big deal.

Don't try to come off the clutch as quickly as possible, because it's not smooth and you'll be prone to skids or stalling (depending on how much throttle you're into).

Be smooth with your inputs, whether it's the clutch, the throttle or the shifter. Don't try to force the shifter into gear, it'll go into the right gear by itself if you let it.

Bring the clutch up smoothly (not necessarily slowly, but smoothly) after you've changed gear, don't just pop it. Same for downshifts.

Handbrake starts are piss easy once you know your friction point well.

>stop on hill, clutch in and brake with feet, apply handbrake
>find friction point of clutch, bring the revs up to ~1500
>release clutch a touch more, just enough to get the revs to start to drop
>release handbrake, slowly release clutch
>????
>profit

Above all, be relaxed. No point winding yourself up into a heightened state of stress for no real reason.
>>
>>16430940
Also make sure your car has a good clutch and learn where the gears are

Is it auto or manual? What shops are close to coffs?

I got mine built in melbourne as its only 2 hours away.

4 speed for VN SS cost 1600
3 speed for VL V8 cost 1300

Stall converters were on top of that (900 & 660)

Is Sydney or Brisbane closer? Just get a list of the shops in sydney that build them and ring them for quotes

Bris is closer but i'd have to get the trans shipped down as the car is stuck in the mechanics garage and isnt drivable

How long until you go FI?

Will the cam auut NA or FI?

It sounds like you should just go out and get the box to handle 600-700 hp now rather than blowing up a 500hp when and getting another. With a 4speed that means paying over 3k for the box alone.

You can put the cam in the engine on the car. Easier if the gearbox is out

True but i dont have the money to do the cam AND gearbox at the same time

Forced induction at least a couple of years down the road when i get bored of the cam

Shop qouted me about $3k for cam, heads and bottom end work as well as other shit that needed doing like oil pump upgrade because the stock one has like 225k on it

Dunno if ill go FI, maybe a small blower to start as twin turbo seems like overkill

thing is my poor ls only makes 300hp to the wheels as it stands and that gearbox would be like $3350 shipped + Stally $800 + Install would be deep into 4k

Yessss, this is exactly what I've done. I'm the raging faggot from the previous thread that posted a white Saab 9-3. I recently bought an older relatives' 2000 9-3 SE convertible for the cost of repairs, which came to just under $2000. Exactly the same as the photo attached, ugly wheels and all, Monte Carlo Yellow. Gay as shit.

She bought it new in 2000 with all the options for $73,000 and paid around $1200 a year in rego because of some luxury car tax. Now her insurance will only pay $8000 for a total write-off, and it took three months for the mechanic to find a new radiator from interstate.

Front wheel drive, automatic, all the bad things. But fuck! It's a horribly overpowered sofa-on-wheels that NOBODY else bothers to keep. Super cheap to buy, incredible build quality, but insurance and parts will bust you a new arsehole

How fucked am I at work

work retail
there was $50 extra in the safe
mention it to boss
tells me to just ring it up as a sale.
ok whatever
few days later accounts people ring up asking about why we were short $50 when we banked last week.
apparently whoever did the banking last week must've read how much we were supposed to bank incorrectly by $50
admitted that yeah there was an extra $50 in the safe and that I just rang it up as a sale. told them the exact day and time I did it so in the sale record it was there.
tells me that doing things like that is against policy.

I mean it's shit that everyone does and I only got unlucky because there was a reason there was extra money laying around when I go do it.

like I guess I know why it looks suspicious cos it could look like I just nicked off with the extra 50 and pretending that a sale to a customer was that $50.

>>16432079
Any engine will run 6-8 psi on stock internals, you'll see rods bending first in any pushrod engine then probably valves. Best off running it at 6-8 psi and building a spare engine to handle 30psi+

oh shit so basically just build a totally seperate engine from scratch.

Not impossible,
>LS7 cam

>>
>>16432205
For LS3 it gets it around to 400 since they make 325 ish from factory. Just re read he has the LS1 so he is best off with a turbo.

>>16432217
e85 is not a meme, makes your car able to handle more boost without detonation than 98.
>>
>>16432228
isnt it unessicary for n/a though?

what if i cant get e85 can it run regular?
>>
>>16432232
e85 tune is only really used if you want a high comp NA motor or nutty FI motor, Not really ideal for a daily. You can tune a car for regular but it will be more prone to detonation than premium or e85/methanol/alcohol. At least put 98 in your car if you're gonna mash on it.
>>
>>16432260
i put 95 in it atm it seems to be happy with that
>>
>>16432273
95 is fine for any stock engine, most modern engines are tuned to run on 91 since it's available everywhere. Look at mazdas skyactiv engines, run at 13-14:1 even higher possibly and are made to run on 91 and get 5-6L/100km. If you are pushing anything higher than stock power you definitely need 98.

We suffered a similar crisis in the seventies that more or less lasted until 90s, except our crisis was blamed on the media and labelled "the supercar scare". Right up until that we had 350-400hp small block powered vehicles built for production touring car homologation purposes. After the scare for a brief time 300hp Clevelands was about the best you could get but by the mid to late seventies even the flagship V8s from our local marques were around 200-210hp.
Then catalytic converters came along mandating the use of unleaded which came at a great cost of octane levels, so then we literally had 165hp 5.0 V8 Commodores (although the turbo six version offered about 200hp). It was only around the late nineties we started getting remotely interesting engines again.

My bro has a set starting with T (probably a plate my car would've come with originally) on his rusting "project car" which he hasn't registered since 2008 I think.

can I bring those along and use them instead and have the rego with it.

That's not how rego and license plates work. In any state. At best you could have them be "too damaged to read" due to an accident and then pay to have brand new ones of the same plate number made.

As anyone who has ever driven in Australia for 15 seconds or more knows, in order to legally drive a Commodore, you must be a brain-dead bogan deadshit.

Consequently, I propose that from this point on, Commodore drivers are to be known as JADIACs.

Just another dickhead in a Commodore.

>>16433657
When youre old enough to drive kid, you will buy your shitbox jap/euro car and after years of being beaten in races, paying more for parts and maintenance, insurance and having horrible resale value retention, your head will still be too far up your arse to realise that theyre popular because they represent good value for money

The Maxima has almost half the mileage for a similar price. The additional space in the Magna would be nice but not a necessity and your leech friends would suddenly be asking you to help them haul this and that about.

I reckon go with the Maxima here if you don't have any pressing need for the extra space.

Hey guys, checked out a WRX today 2005

Pretty low KMs 95000, stock and has a complete service history at URD, not owned by a Habib but by a white tru blue type of family in their mid to late 30s. Appears to have been their passenger family car with the kids whilst they dad drove a work van

Think that's a good indication that the insides are still in good nic? URD is supposed to be some highly recommended specialist according to forums.

Didn't seem to find any leaks or anything like that. Then again I have never checked out cars much

What do you think? I've never bought used

Also comes with rwc and 6 months remaining rego. $11k

thoughts? sounds like a nice deal or too good to be true?

Because it's cheap, available everywhere, and it's an incredibly high octane.
It was the old E85 before E85 was a thing, and is still a very practical option.
>>
>>16433847
>Pretty low KMs 95000
This is right about when they need to have their timing belts done
Expect to fork out a couple grando or more for that.
>>
>>16433853
You also end up with a fuck huge taking up the entire boot and the potential for any part of the car to blow at any moment.

I saw a blown muffler as a result of LPG. That was some awesomely scary shit.
>>
>>16433860
If it's a dedicated LPG setup (like any good street machine) then the tank simply takes up the space of the old tank.
And the likely hood of such an occurrence of a blown muffler (which you'd sooner win lotto) is well worth the trade off of higher boost and/or higher compression on pump fuel. Realistically though, I wouldn't bother with LPG unless it was a forced induction street application.
>>
>>16433852
any reason why?
>>
>>16433847
Sounds about right. Pho toss?
>>
>>16433869
Only concern would be upcoming service costs
>>
>>16433867
I bet you he's doing LPG for emissions so getting an engineer cert is easier.

Seems like a few people in vic go that way, from what i was reading.

I'd be really hesitant to recommend buying a WRX second hand, even if it hasn't been thrashed on you're likely to have to shell out some serious cash over the next 50,000 km's, clutches, gearboxes etc

Go and lurk on a few Subie forums and see what sort of problems people have had and what they've had to replace so you've at least got a worst case scenario in mind before you pull the pin.

Oh and ring around and get a few quotes for the 100,000 km service, it's a biggie so factor that into your purchase price to.

With the exception of pic related i've pretty much exclusives had Subaru's for the last decade and whilst i've loved them dearly, they've absolutely been money pits.

When servicing a car if it says to do it at 100k km /4 years.

does that mean that the major service timing belt and shit should have been done in the 4th year since new regardless of whether it has hit 100k km?

also if I buy the Subaru and just do the regular 10k services and just get everything that Subaru says needs to be done I should be ok with it not ending up being a lemon right?

or will be being this fastidious with servicing just have them be jewing me?

Between 6 month servicing (don't think I will be driving more than 10k a year) would doing extra oil changes myself be enough?

I don't go out anymore so I realised I'm basically working for no reason right now so I don't mind spending a bit of money on a toy right now since owning a home is unrealistic and will be inheriting my parents home eventually anyways.
>>
>>16433894
>With the exception of pic related i've pretty much exclusives had Subaru's for the last decade and whilst i've loved them dearly, they've absolutely been money pits

damn didn't know Subarus were money pits.

just shit failing constantly or services?
>>
>>16433915
>does that mean that the major service timing belt and shit should have been done in the 4th year since new regardless of whether it has hit 100k km?

belts degrade but usually get changed 80,000-100,000 km. sometimes 60,000.

>also if I buy the Subaru and just do the regular 10k services and just get everything that Subaru says needs to be done I should be ok with it not ending up being a lemon right?

Other stuff may go like bushings, tie rods, shocks (suspension shit), even gearbox, awd system and clutch.

>or will be being this fastidious with servicing just have them be jewing me?

follow the logbook servicing reccomendations, they are pretty worst case scenario. you can get away with oil changes every 20,000km with synthetic, granted you top up.

These maintenance intervals are designed around normies who need a time frame set to check up on things. also timing belt intervals are well under when they will snap. This dumb old timer I know had a camry with stock timing belt, it snapped at 260,000km with him using it as a delivery car.

Subaru's are nothing but trouble(As an owner of two subarus). The brand attracts retards who will launch the car at every red light and roleplay as a rally driver (me). Boxer engine a shit too, so many issues, if youre going to use horizontally opposed pistons build the shit out of it like porsche did.
>>
>>16433847
Timing belt would be due, if it wasn't done at 90,000 as it should have
>>
>>16433919

>just shit failing constantly or services?

A little of both really, it's not as if Subaru's are catastrophically unreliable, but Subaru ARE a relatively small manufacture and have absolutely had their fair share of quality control issues with shit like head gaskets and glass gearboxes over the years so maintenance and staying on top of issues is pretty critical.

The problem with the gearboxes/clutches are mostly down to the fact that they're AWD cars so they're inherently more complicated, prone to wear and labour intensive to fix which equates to more expensive to maintain, but if you do maintain them there's a reason as to why you'll see Foresters and shit with 400,000 km's on them like it's nothing....but they didn't get there for free.

Servicing is considerably more expensive than a lot of other cars, my gf drives my old GT Foz and that just had it's 200,000 km service and that was $1600 (my iload by comparison was $800, my XT Forester was over a grand in parts alone for it's 100,000km service), that's in addition to smaller services every 5,000k's because TURBO, you can do a lot of it yourself as the engines are relatively simple (fuck changing spark plugs though) but if you run into all sorts of electrical and sensor issues that shit can sometimes take weeks to sort out properly....and that's with the help of trained mechanics.

For my needs they're pretty ideal, they're good little practical cars, AWD is super handy for where I live (three creek crossings to just get out of my property) and they're a ton of fun, BUT, if you can get everything you need from a simpler FWD or RWD car that would absolutely be the better choice financially.
