make a sleeper from it.
Swap in a 3500 V6 (bolts right in. Look for the sleeper general thread. One of the guys there talked about his 3500 swap into a 96 Buick Century which is essentially the same car)

I can't beat this thing. I had a standard ford escort last month and slammed it in third passing someone and blew tranny after 6000 miles. Then I bought a daily for 2500 and blew head gasket from that after only 600 miles!!!! That's bullshit. I need to baby this thing
How can I make it last forever? Has 136000 miles.

>How can I make it last forever?
when the time comes, replace the headgaskets and intake manifold gaskets with aftermarket felpro units. You can do them in your driveway, no need to fuck around with timing since it's a pushrod V6. Other than that, just do normal maintenance. Those 3100 V6 engines are pretty bulletproof. The transmission is another story. don't go racing and no neutral drops and it should last.

It's the 2.2 4 cylinder.

Please do yourself a huge favor and not buy it. GM cars are low quality and unreliable especially from the late 80's-late 90's.
I'm not talking out of my ass either. I knew somebody who bought a brand new Cutlass Calais in 1990 and at 60k miles the car started falling apart. She sold it in 1997 to a corner mechanic for $600 as it was simply too unreliable to be a daily driver.
>>16402380
no it isn't. In 1996, the Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera only had 1 engine option, the 3100 3.1L V6. The 4 cylinders had been cut from the line up years before for being underpowered, less fuel efficient, and horrible sales.
It's a V6.

Calais got all new engines in 1994. Please update your views.

>Calais got all new engines in 1994.
wait, the Calais was killed off in 1991. sorry. brain fart.
The Cutlass Calais shared NOTHING with the Cutlass Ciera. They were on completely unrelated platforms.
The Ciera used the A-body platform, shared with the likes of the Chevy Celebrity, and Buick Century.
The Calais used the N-body platform, shared with the Pontiac Grand Am and Buick Skylark.

>money shifting
Git gud faggot. Fix the car
>>16402742
The 2.2L 4 motor was definatley the standard engine in the 93-96 A-body cars. The A-boies were always available with a standard 4 and optional V6
>>16405158
I have NEVER seen one with the 4 cylinder. Either way, those 2.2L pushrod I4's were unkillable. horrendously slow, but unkillable.
>>16405167
Most came with a V6. The Pontiac Iron Duke 4 bnger was the the standard choice from 82-92. First with a 2 barrel carb, the TBI.
>>16405167
You could even get the V6 version of the Olds diesel in the early 80's
>>16402455
I have an '89 Pontiac 6000 (basically the same as the Cutlass Ciera like OP's). It has been beat on for years by previous owners but it's reliable as hell. Never given me any serious trouble. My only complaint is that it gets about 16 MPG city but only has the 2.8
>>16402327
>fourth to 3rd at 110mph
Literally nothing bad should have happened. I take 3rd to 100 all the tike in my civic. You must drive an 80s 4 speed civic then
>blew the headgasket or someshit.
You don't even know what you did. Haha
