>>

>Love with the motorcycle becomes difficult. The motorcycle becomes pregnant with Travis’s child. One of the best scenes is how Travis will deal with additional mouth to feed. What will Travis’s motorcycle/human hybrid looks like plagues his miniscule little mind. America’s love of the highway becomes Travis’s love of his vagina-wielding motorcycle. Eventually the book becomes a mature meditation on how one man, previously in a biker gang, settles down with his fuckable motorcycle and raises a family.

You're not supposed to launch motorcycles unless they're shaft drive. The chain can snap and people have had their leg chopped off by a broken flying chain from launching.
>>
>>16387481
>>16387482

>>
>>16387497
clutches can last a long time. my last bike called for the clutch plates to be inspected after 36,000 miles. they were too thin, so i replaced them with an upgraded kit with about $120. not as expensive as i thought, and i definitely didin't mind abusing it. it's a component that is meant to be worn out. just check the plates here and there if you're doing a lot of abuse to them.
>>
>>16387518
My clutch plates for my 250 lasted 91,000km lol
>>
>>16387542
the plates are under a lot less torque and have looser springs. i doubt you abused your clutch with a lot of siq clutch ups and launches.

Its fans, pure brand loyalists, consider machines that are better all around to be off-brand and cherry pick issues when confronted with how superior everything is to the DRZ (ignoring the DRZ's own cherry pickable once-in-100k-miles issues)

2 strokes store fuel in the bottom end of the engine before it is used and at full rpm it has hardly any fuel cooling/lubricating the bottom end and it results in a failure.

>>16387938
WR250F is not plated from the factory and cannot be plated in many states. WR250R is plated in 50 states from the factory.

>>16387947
WR250F has like 10 hour service intervals for oil and like 20 hours for valve checks. And it would need a rebuild at 100-150 hours.

A WR250R has 3000 mile oil changes, and 26,000 mile valve check intervals. They will keep on chugging for 100,000 miles plus.

That is an order of magnitude more maintenance for a WR250F.

They are different bikes for different uses.

A WR250R makes for a decent offroad bike and a fantastic road bike.

A WR250F makes for a fantastic offroad bike and an absolute shit road bike.

Horsepower is actually a pretty solid metric by which to limit the performance of a bike a rider is able to use.

Much better than using displacement.
>>
>>16388090
There are a shit-tonne slower bikes than a ninja 250. Even my old GSF250 could hit 100km/h in just over 5s, quicker than a DC2 integra and despite /o/'s penchant for kekking out ricers, they're not exactly entry level either.
Cruisers are just dangerous though. Terrible geometry, terrible suspension and no up and go to mingle with traffic.
>>16388084
As above.
Displacement is a terrible measure, power to weight much better. There will be no true and logical guide.

>>
>>16388117
You can go fast all you want, but where motorcycles kill is when turning, no matter how fast or how slow you go. The way the design of the motorcycle accomodates cornering affects is danger more than anything.

From twitchy supersports to american cruisers that will lever themselves off the road at modest lean angles, cornering matters more than how fast you can get there. Throttle control isn't hard, cornering is. Period.

The only way to determine how user friendly a motorcycle actually is requires riding it though, and governments are usually too strung out to even try to care about that

The american approach, "we have no idea if this is a good idea, but your parents and friends probably told you it was deadly" is the best
>>
>>16388117
>Horsepower only
No.
Weight is also a massive influence, most accidents are a result of coming into corners too hot/crossing the center.

Who am I kidding, I'm off.
>>
>>16388090
>>16388120

Anyone who thinks a ninja toofiddy is too fast for a first bike is a moron. They are slow as shit.

I agree, but an SV650 say, is still more than enough to get someone into shit quickly.

The best part of a twin is the flat torque curve, no nasty peaks.
>>
>>16388131
>>16388132

The speed at which you enter a corner is completely within control of the rider.

How fast they good to that speed is what catches new riders out. Throttle control of a powerful bike in a corner also catches new riders out.

Learning proper throttle control is the #1 challenge for a new rider. Cornering at modest speeds in the beginning is easy.

Every single road rider stands to benefit from taking some time on a dirtbike and learning what it feels like to slide it around and recover. On the brakes and on the gas.
>>
>>16388163
>Thinking they need to lean and get rid of those strips
In my experience it's people trying to show off by accelerating hard that get themselves into trouble the most. Most new riders are scared of learning, I've enver come across a new rider that was trying to scrub their strips just to show off. most of the time they are goosing it to show off and coming to a situation they didn't anticipate too hot.
>>
>>16388164
>dirtbike and learning what it feels like to slide it around and recover
you dirtbikers are silly, I just need to throttle in the rain to loose the rear and slide around. happens more than enough but I guess that doesn't happen with your gutless bikes on road.
>>
>>16388171
>I've enver come across a new rider that was trying to scrub their strips just to show off

there are enough people that think you MUST be able to get rid of your chickenstrips even if you're only ride for one week. Just part of the toxic motovlog community and kids that start riding because of it
>>
>>16388157
Vtec vfr a shit
>>
>>16388172
On road, even in the rain, the stakes are much higher trying to slide on a road bike in a turn. No body does that shit regularly.
If you claim to you need to post a webum as proof or you're full of shit.

On a dirt bike, sliding around is part of every single ride.

Learning to control a bike in a low traction situation with low stakes and at low speeds like on a dirt bike is just not possible on the road, period.

what the fuck is the point of sliding a bike in a straight line? How does that teach you anything about bike control, retard?

Sliding around turns and learning bike control when you lose traction in turns on the brakes and on the gas is a critical skill. A skill that is easily practiced on a dirtbike and not easily practiced on a road bike.

>he actually thinks sliding his bike in the rain in a straight line teaches him what he would learn on a dirtbike.

I bet you don't even ride. Confirmed nobike.

educate yourself famalam, no one needs a dirtbike to be an excellent rider. they are what they are, toys

>lose the argument on substance
>retreat back to baseless premise

Just goes to show you have no idea what you are talking about.

Fact: dirtbikes teach and allow practice of slide control and recovery in a low stakes environment that allows development of skills that otherwise would not be possible on a road bike.

Try again retard.

>Sliding around turns...etc...A skill that is easily practiced on a dirtbike and not easily practiced on a road bike.
Except the bike reacts a lot different in each setting...
They're really very different styles of riding.

You can't and shouldn't expect a pure dirt or road rider to be exceptional when on the other surface. Sliding on the dirt is nothing like sliding on the road aside from a few fundamentals which can be experienced on the grass with just about any bike.

You could almost guarantee either the dirt rider trying to slide through road corners or the road rider trying to hang on to gripping the surface would both crash if they approach it like nothing was different.

It's not about translating skills, it's about knowing how to feel what the bike is doing and feeling out its reaction to your inputs. Learning how to learn.

Hey /dbt/ whats a great bike for an in the city DD? (A city with shit roads AND REALLY BAD TRAFFIC)
I currently own a ninja 650 which im replacing soon for other reasons, but daily driving It is a real pain considering the ride position , heat and so on.

I really liked the ducati scrambler , i found it comfortable when i sat on it and give scramblers are based off dirt bikes ( or so ive been led to believe) it should do a bit better on trash roads, also i believe its considerably lighter.
Would this be a good replacemet? Id also still like the ability to go out of the city into twisties , but this is not the primary focus.

And i know that /dbt/ thinks scramblers are for beta cucks , and considering how theyre marketed k cant blame you, but do you have other suggestions?

do you have to do anything for TÜV?
>tfw over 200 euros to get it going for TÜV
88€ for Simmerringe vorne u. Kettenschutz
at least 200+ for rear shock service at Öhlins for TT dämpfer hinten (or neuen Dämfer for 235 from ebayee)
when ich die gabel vorn sowieso offen habe hab ich überlegt direkt härtere federn rein zu tun
decisions sind hard, but so ist mein benis :-DDDD

side stand doesn't fold back automatically, I don't know how to fix this yet
and my rear brake doesn't activate my brake light anymore. The fucking switch costs 30€ or something
>88€ for Simmerringe vorne u. Kettenschutz
why so expensive?
>(or neuen Dämfer for 235 from ebayee)
I would do this just because I wouldn't have to bring the bike to the workshop and have to explain to them what's wrong

I almost failed my MOT for the same reason. Turns out there was a hole at the back of the switch that was letting dirt in. Just blasted WD-40 into it and worked the mechanism until it started working again then sealed the hole.

My killswitch is stuck in normal position, I don't know if I can fix that
And that fucking sidestand just doesn't fold back anymore, and I can't find the right replacement part (the spring). I'll just try taking it off and lube everything thoroughly. If it doesn't work then, I could also just take it off and go to TÜV withouth it...
I'm glad I don't have to spend that much money though when I hear what problems you've got
>git fuckd TÜV
ja

I'll try hitting it a few times and spraying it everywhere too, maybe it starts working again, at least for one day, that would be enough

You could just simply move the fuel tank under the seat. Flip the engine 90 degrees. Have one cylinder between your legs keeping you warm and toasty and the other a safe distance off the ground. Makes perfect sense but autistic Germans would never get it because creativity.

I want a dual sport, ~600cc bike that's tall enough for my 6'3" body, at around $4000.

What's are the best options?
>>
>>16390010
Xr600 or xr650
>>
>>16390010
KLR 650

Don't listen to CCPT with his DR650 bullshit. He doesn't know how to ride and was molested by a alpha male KLR650 rider as a child.

it does, if you use weird stuff like an inline 4 or whatever those yuppies call lit

DR650 has huge aftermarket, huge following, tons of easy mods, tank reliability and you can find a videotutorial for how to completly take it apart bit for bit, maintenance, mods, anything really. Also PDFs all over the internet with all kinds of information.

And for 4k you get a top notch one, best of the best, all mods done

nope, dr650 has most diverse mods
