Well hello there
>>
To answer the question about the Imperial without the title; In Georgia, a title is not required on any car that is 25 or older; it only needs a bill of sale. As a result, the car is worth roughly $2,000.
>>
How is a Ranchero for a first personal car? I currently drive an 03 crv but want something fun to work on and fun to drive and the roadkill episodes made me fall in love with them. What am I getting myself into if I buy one?
>>
>>16377119
What year? Give me details as to what you do and what year you want and I'll tell you.

(The only thing I really can't answer about classic cars is whether or not I should buy one of the many Lincoln Mark Vs that I run across because I have a seriously unhealthy love for that car.)
>>
>>16377119
You'll be getting into old cars, which will break, but be relatively simple to fix.

Generally.
>>
>>16377165
I actually have no idea about the year I'd buy or anything. Are there major differences between generations? What's the best generation? I'd like one that can handle the togue as I live in an area with a ton of those kinds of roads.
>>
>>16377307
There are huge differences between generations. The First Gen is a Full-Size car, Second is a compact and the Third and up is a mid-size. Personally im particular to the fifth generation
>>
>>16377119
do it. lots of parts available and you'll probably have a blast both driving and fixing it. expect things like fuel or water pumps to go out sometimes. be extremely careful if it has rust, especially check the frame rails and control arms. if anything has holes in it, i certainly wouldn't buy it. check all the brake lines if you can, the seals, hoses, etc. if you get a pre-70s one, use lead substitute in the gas and put in zinc additives when you change the oil for longevity. but aside from those basic things, it should just be fun.
>>
>>16377307
It takes some serious work to make a car like that good at going through twisty mountain roads.

That being said, there's nothing more fun that bringing a car on a road and driving way faster than it was meant too

It all depends on what condition it's in.
>>16377307
I'd stick to the smaller ones then. The 61-63 and the 64-65. They share a lot of parts with mustangs too, so those bolt on handeling kits will most likely fit.

>pic is mine
>>
>>16378265
Considering they're just a falcon, which the mustang is based on, you can pretty much throw whatever modifications you want at it.

They can but it can be an unnecessary pain in the ass. And people think doing shitty mods raises the value. Also you may have to return a system back to stock that it's hard to find parts for. A Ranchero shouldn't be hard to return to stock though.

it will never be worth it.

also why is this add only 1000?
>>
>>16378884
You can make anything a race car, and while it has leaf springs you can set up a 3 link or 4 link for not to much. It's a mustang chassis after all

Also that's some boomer logic. He missed a zero or is asking a lot more for that

i would pay 5000 for that car.

Buy used tools whenever you can; many are better than what you buy now and the only downside is a few chips in the paint.

I want to build a ford truck with a wood bed for sentimental reasons. I'm looking for something between a mid/late 70's to an early 80's F-series, and I'm planning to build a wooden bed for it. I was also planning on getting a manual transmission for it, so there's a chance I might be looking for a different engine/tranny to swap in as well. What should I look for, and how hard/expensive a project is this going to be to source parts for?
>>
>>16384267
All Ford trucks from '65 to '79 share the same frame and suspension so all parts are pretty much interchangeable when it comes to drivetrain and everything.

Making something run and drive is a lot less expensive than making it perfect.

Do you mean flatbed or just wooden bed floor?
>>
>>16384279
It's going to end up looking like a farmer's truck, so a wooden bed with the sides that look like a picket fence. I was thinking of cheating and just making a steel bed for it, then putting the wooden sides on.
>>
>>16384284
That would be a little expensive all things considered, but it's relative. What's your budget?

Old Fords are the best
>>
>>16384220
It's already car parts OR food and there's a reason I weigh 140lbs, despite being 6' tall.

>>16384227
I prefer electric choke for a daily driver; especially if there isn't an existing choke pull. It's particularly useful if you use the car to run errands or have frequent starts and stops.
>>
>>16384297
It's a project I'm going to spread out over a few years, so I really didn't envision a budget--poorfags gon' poor. My thought was, that the biggest hurdle is finding a straight frame and a decent cab that aren't rusted all to hell. If I could find a truck with a crappy bed, but everything else in relatively good condition, that'd probably work.. but I'm double fucked with the boomer tax and truck tax, no matter what. My best bet might just be to yank what I can out of a barn or farmyard and see what I can do.
>>
>>16384300
Dracula confirmed for skeleton

And that makes sense. I just learned that if the engine and carb are super hot and I mat it to start it the truck starts much easier. Usually I just popped the hood and took off the air cleaner lid.

Truck tax, is basically what it is. Yes, it's beat to shit, yes it's mechanically beat, yes the floorpan is fucked, no it doesn't even come with the cap because the "hur hur I'll throw that in for XXX dollur dollurs fer yuh" game.

But. It's a truck, and that automatically makes it worth... something. Beat to shit rangers rake in at least 3k, and that's with the straight 4 and an automatic. Good luck finding a 4x4 anything for less than 4.5k, no matter the year. This actually happened to me once:

>go to Ford dealership, looking to see what it would cost to re-paint a spare bumper I have for my Grand Marquis (yes, fedorable/granny car but I love it)

>I go take it out, it seems OK, but it's a ten year old truck so the interior is cleaned but definitely used

>ok, it's probably someone's worktruck, lets go see what they want for this
>guy shows me a price tag of app. $11,000

So to recap, a ten year old truck with 200,000 miles on it goes for about a third as much as a new base Tacoma. Don't even know what possesses me to want a "farm truck" when I know this shit goes on, but I guess I'm hoping I'll get lucky.

Are 100% right. I bought a set of brand-new Stanley vice grips and they sucked; wouldn't stay closed, screw didn't turn, etc. I took them back and got a refund because they were all the same.

I picked up a few pairs at a garage sale for under $10.00 and they are incredible. They look a little worn, but they work better than anything in stores for twice the price.

This is why there are literally thousands of reviews of parts that suck from Harbor Freight and websites dedicated to telling you what you should and shouldn't buy.

Plus, we all share a hobby and it would be remiss of me to not try and help you save money for go-fast bits.

Almost lost Old Brown and Big Red on Christmas Day.

Some shithead stole my Scottsdale and 3-wheeler from the emergency room parking lot while I was being treated for an eye wound and we managed to find it before the cops and steal it back the same night. After reporting it as stolen a friend of mine posted pictures of it all over local Facebook groups asking the community to keep an eye out, within half an hour somebody replied with a photo of my truck + Big Red in the back parked at the end of their block, telling us that they wouldn't let it out of their site until we got there and that they had already informed the police. We ended up beating the police there by a minute or two and once the officer arrived, after a quick chat, he let me hop in a drive it back home. If the cops had found it first they would have towed it back to the station for inspection and swabbing, could have taken more than a week to get it back. The dick that stole it got away with my jacket and phone but that's small potatoes compared to losing both of my vehicles.

How was the holiday weekend for the rest of /ccg/?

Yep. There are many ways to do a killswitch, some more secure and disguised than others. I went with the cheap, easy, and less secure option because I didn't want to route any new wiring through my firewall or dick around under the dash for too long. You can buy automotive fuses with extended leads where all you have to do is solder or splice a switch in-line and swap it with any fuse that is essential for starting (I replaced my ECM fuse so that the truck cranks but doesn't start, looks like a broken truck), then mount the switch under your dash with a couple of screws and your done. 15 minute job.

Not sure if you've tried this already but most auto parts stores, at least in my area, have a bin full of random drum brake springs that they keep in the back and sell for dirt cheap. My buddies and I have had pretty good luck walking in with our existing springs and matching them up, however if you don't have your old existing springs it's not really an option.

Pic related is with the extended fuse swapped into the ECM socket, if you don't want to solder anything throw some crimp connectors onto the two leads and run them out to the two contacts on your single pole/single throw switch, mount it to anything you want, and you're done.

My local railroad has been running their steam engine almost daily for weeks for the holidays. It's nice since you can hear the steam whistle from miles away, I live at least 5 miles from the railroad and can hear it no problem.

I cuck the tow truck. I have no friends in the area, so I use them to deliver cars I buy. I have two accounts so I can have a car towed 1,000 miles for a cost of $250.00

AAA is literally a car delivery bro and a means by which I can get in my car and prepare to leave if my price isn't met.
