Has o ever bought a crate engine?
Are they worth buying new to do a build yourself?
>inb4 no ecoboost
>>16372121
It is usually better to rebuild from a strong base than buying a new engine.
>gm
trash
electric cars are superior anyway
>>16372196
but you can have a 750 hp race engine for the price of a base c5
>>16372200
>electric cars are superior
not when you have to replace the battery
you can't do a rebuild on a battery, it's fucking garbage
>>16372251

yes, internal combustion engines are trash
They pollute more and are slower.
depends on how much you trust yourself as an engine builder

No but my brother ordered a 4L60, and axle with 4/.10 gears straight from Chevrolet. Arrived in a few days, with a dolly/ hand truck, moved it to the back yard, and installed it all.

Thank you for admitting your car is only good at one thing, while real ice cars are better at everything else

it also only does that on 110 octane and costs $24,000
that said there are crate engines that make well over 1000hp all motor on 91 but they cost like 50K+
lol, ice fags getting triggered
>>16372352
ice competes and is faster at every track, ring, oval, or anywhere with a turn on any road over battery
how is that?
>>16372322
dang this is something i'm self conscious about. I'm from so-cal but have had others say I have an accent
east coast superchargers make the PAXTON NOVI

They're producing a sports car later on. You expect to much out of this car. It's literally the first gen of the car.

Yes, that cost more than 10 times more.

So day to day your car doesn't turn?

buy a sports car?
>>16372534
Yes or no, day to day does your car turn?
Going around corners is a valid day to day metric. Battery cars weigh more and have lower cornering performance.

>>16372572
>ignore this series
>it doesn't fit my agenda
>>16372576
depends. The model s has an extremely low center of gravity.
I bought a gm ht383e for my k1500. It was a great engine, but in hindsight I could have done the same build for 1/2 the price
>>16372578
I want to race cars through turns
Are you saying I can't do that with a battery powered car?
>>16372578
>depends
So why can't the Model S break 8 mins at the Nurburgring if it can corner so well, I'm confused?
>>16372592
Insufficient cooling that prevents it from racing for extended periods of time.
>>16372589
You can? It's a sedan. Name one production sedan that can handle like a 918 or brake like one.

Care to explain this?
>>16372616
Tesla is closed source. Pretty sure once they make their sports car that will be solved.
>>16372619
So am I supposed to believe a car that cuts it's throttle and becomes unresponsive
Can corner more quickly than a lighter car with more power that doesn't?

>>16372679

How does one cool a 1 ton car battery exactly?
>>16372121
For my Windsor 302, it's really almost worth just buying a crate engine missing accessories and swapping shit over. Crate engines come with both a cam and heads that I would change if I rebuilt the original. Price comes out pretty similar too.
>>16372706
>1 ton
I think you mean 2 ton.
>how do you cool it
By giving it cooling systems more cooling systems? Seem like common sense. Big mistake on Elon's part. He should address the cooling issue in the next gen.

I don't know what system he uses but it definitely needs improvement. And the Model S uses liquid to cool its components. This anon >>16372616 cited an article that shows that.

>>16372883
https://forums.tesla.com/forum/forums/tesla-model-s-85kw-battery-replacement-cost
>A Battery Replacement Option will be available for purchase soon. The option allows you to pre-purchase a new battery to be installed after eight years for a fixed price: $8,000 for 40 kWh batteries, $10,000 for 60 kWh batteries, and $12,000 for 85 kWh batteries.
Right now a replacement battery is around 20-30 grand
>>16372248
I don't think they're that much. You can get a 2000hp+ NRE crate engine for $50k. You might as well build your own if you're spending that much.
Seen a few videos lately of mobile phones/e-cigs blowing up in people's pockets and it's a big, nasty splosion for a small battery.
Does the same thing happen occasionally to electric cars?
>>16372962
It's pretty rare but possible, the cells don't have individual protection circuits in a Tesla. If the 9000 cells decide to go into a thermal runaway chain reaction you better run.
