Yeah, I'm not too fond of the barends and spikes, but I just got the thing and have been busy getting it running well before spending more money on aesthetics. That's not spray paint, it's plastidip. It's not lowered either man, you must be mistaken (can't have a lowered bike here because the roads are so shit and full of bumps).

So went to check my valve clearances and I can't get my notches right on my intake side cam shaft. So what my timing is off?... like if so it's off by 3.14~.... teeth. I guess thats the only explanation. I turned to the end of the compression the exhaust cam is on point but the exhaust isn't. Is it hard to fix do i literally just un bolt the intake cam towers twist the cam and then it's timed right? Cam chain is on a separate cog if that helps or makes sense. Sorry no pic currently eating a burrito at a Mexican place so no pics also its a 2011 husq te250

how much of a meme are 250s? the highest speeds i encounter are 60mph/100kph, but usually cruising around 50mph/80mph for most of my commute.
have been running a little (1cyl) 200cc scoot, but a (2cyl) 250cc bike will have a lot more actual power i'm guessing? i've just found that passing power from 50mph/80kph is a little lacking in the scoot, but i don't want to pick up a bigger bike because i still have a lot to learn, and not enough money to buy one.

CBR250R owner here. The little 250 has an average top speed of 84-88mph, but can get up to 95 mph (spec wise it's suppose to be 91.8mph). The real big issue is a matter of being at such a high rpm even in 6th gear. The bike just doesn't have enough umph to truly just gun it and pass at 80 or so mph (if I draft and pass that works most times) depending on the grade of the road and/or the wind. I assume the Ninja 250 has the same issue, although avoids this issue till a few more mph since it's a bit faster at the top compared to the CBR250R.

Not trading my old girl, but if I could I'd get the 300 of either Honda or Kawi.

A DRZ is a great bike. Only thing holding it back really is the gearing compromise you have to make between offroad powa and highway streetability due to the close ratio 5 speed.

Another good bike in a similar class is the WR250R and X. About the same power but less torquey, motor is a screamer but its lots of fun. Better suspension and a nicer bike to ride than the DRZ overall. They're a little harder to find.

Any other recommendation (in the US) is going to be an unreliable pile of shit with unreasonable service intervals(see: KTM EXC or WR450F, pretty much any motorcross/enduro 450-500cc bike), Not street legal from the get go ( XR650R, WR450F, preetty much any 450-500cc motorcross/enduro) or way overpriced (KTM 690)

I defy someone to actually give a decent US street legal enduro/dual sport/supermoto alternative to either the DRZ400 or WR250 that isn't a shitshow to maintain and that doesn't cost $10,000 used.

DRZ400 is decent but WR250 is modern, fuel injected, engine is balanced and smooth, makes ~30hp out of the box (about the same as the DRZ) and about the same power mod for mod as the DRZ until you start getting into internals. It has MUCH better suspension, 6 speed transmission that's comfortable on the highway without shit gearing for offroad, better brakes, handles better on and off road, etc.

well, i got into my first accident guys. i have this retarded habit of doing WOT third gear roll ons from very low RPMs. It sounds cool being WOT when you have such little power (seriously, try it, the engine sounds gnarly) but I tried this on my liter bike instead of my 600 and I guess third gear catches a lot sooner on a liter bike than a 600 and it just took off underneath me at around 5k-6k rpms
