Hah, nice.
I got stuck like this once. A dick came at me full speed on a narrow road so i had to put the car in the ditch to avoid a crash. Ended up 6 centimeters from a steel post right next to one of my fender flares, and a phone pole behind the bed. Couldnt move the car a millimeter or the car would have drifted in to the steel post and damaged the fender flare which costs like 9600 nok at arctic trucks painted and on the truck.. called viking to come pull me out instead .. now that was embarrassing.

Hey guys, so I might have the opportunity to trade my acura for another car. It's a 2002 Nissan pathfinder, with the 5 speed transmission and a vq35de. My only hesitation is that it has 172k miles, and burns a bit of oil.

My acura has 102k miles, is pretty much mint and has no problems. Dudes looking for something like my car for trade, but I feel like my car is worth a bit more than his. Do you think I should try to make this trade plus some cash? Or do you think I should avoid the

The Hardbody ended in '97 and Frontier's last generation (worth buying/ talking about) lasted until around 2004. One downside is then you'll have two very thirsty vehicles that both could be prone to rust.
Personally, I think that Nissan trade request would be nice if you can get $2000 off him but would not actively seek it out myself. ">Nissan"
doesn't apply here, though. Also looks to be a good oberlander but will be annoying to fix and jack up due to commercial availabilities.

One thing I'm going to add is I really, really like the aesthetic of larger old Nissan vehicles. 4 door SUV that looks like a 2 door is very appealing to the eye. If only they made it slightly more like the hard body... Ah well - at least it's not a fucking modern frontier.

$3800 could've bought that International Harvester Scout that I saw at my mech's yesterday.

3.5L looks well enough to tow 5000lb so looks powerful enough. I reiterate, though: if you get a decent wad of cash out of the trade, you can easily do it to pay for gas OR you could flip the Nissan again since you somehow managed to get your Acura's new worth up to $5500.

I'm more worried about the body of the 02 Nissan. But not worried enough.

That imagery makes up for the fact that other places don't needlessly salt their roads like we do in Onterrible cities (or oversalt, should be the word).

I remember you, Kanon! So I guess the clutch issue was fucked afterall, eh? What was wrong with it that needed fixing and how is the transmission?
Also, ABS light is probably a sensor issue. It could either be a sensor malfunction or brake line has some sort of minor malfunction with either parking or fluids. That's a hard one since ABS is a bitch to fix most of the time without paying more than $300.

Literally where? And how many miles?
>>
>>16218342
>What was wrong with it that needed fixing and how is the transmission?

The mechanics opinion was that the pressure plate is failing, not the actual clutch.

This kinda makes sense to me since it wasn't slipping and makes the truck stall just fine like it should. Still, having to turn the engine off to put it into reverse then start it again kinda wireds me out.

Im hoping it is a bent clutch fork, or some thing minor like that. I'm going to have 4 weeks off from college soon I'll be fist deep in there working on it.

The transmission is pretty loud, but I think that is from previous owners not bolting on all the covers and foam insulation when they worked on it.

>That's a hard one since ABS is a bitch to fix most of the time
I fucking hate ABS, its so unnecessary, im not 16 and im not a woman I know how to apply the breaks.

Its just that the ABS light stays on and then sometimes the red break light comes on as well. Everything I know about breaks makes me shit my pants a bit when it happens.
>>
>>16218140
Its a stupid expensive fender flare and I also think it has quite some delivery time, so I dont blame him
>>
>>16218372
Could just be any of the transfer shafts anywhere along the drivetrain. My U-connectors in my Ranger are starting to fail which causes the majority of my transmission sounds and is quite common for truccs in general.
The best way to diganose an issue is get someone qualified to drive with you at 120 on the freeway and listen to the sounds (or explain it to them). Once they get unbearably loud, then it's time for a rebuilding of an axis or converter in the transmission or whatever the actual issue is.
I'll have that done come April in time for mudding season but it should be fine for now. There really isn't much you can do unless you know how to repair axles and have the equipment for it. How the fuck do you parallel park?!

The clutch issue sounds like something you can diagnose, though. Why bring it to the mechanic and drive it away in mildly shitty condition, anyway? Muh schekils?

>>
>>16218603
you can buy a 4x4, but so you know finding any 4x4 that is 3k and able to be lived out of is very difficult. Most SUV 4x4's are 6cyl, older generations of the 4runner (and toyotas 4x4 pickup) have 4wheeldrive with a 4cyl option, but these are more rare, and more beat from being used how you want to use it. Many of these 4cyl 4x4's are 4500 to 5000 in no rust or little rust condition. You have to keep in mind about how much more material and parts you pay for when getting a 4wheel drive car. I recommend you stray from suv's and look more at Toyota's Tacomas with a camper shell. Or Nissan's D-series trucks. (d21's or d20's) Here is an example of a newer Tacoma with problems for 3k. Hope this input helps you dude!

Also consider any year Suburban. Sure, you lose a tiny bit of off road capability and maneuverability due to size but you make up for it even more in cargo capacity. Pic related is the inside of my "97 for reference.

The GMC Yukon and Chevy Tahoe both share the same platform as the GMT400, so yes it does have the same chassis as a 90's C/K 1500. As far as im concerned the Tahoe and the Yukon have always had a 4 door/ 2 door option.

It's offroad capacities on the other hand, keep in mind the '96 Yukon 4 door 4x4 has a curb weight of 5,500 pounds while the '96 C/K 1500 extended cab has a curb weight of 4,057 pounds. In the C/K, in hairy offroad situations you can always add extra weight in the bed for more tire traction, while in the Yukon you are practically screwed (unless you throw in a bunch of sandbags by the wheel wells inside).

I was told it had something to do with the wheelbase in another thread, and center of gravity or something, but I doubt it since the Yukon/Tahoe share a frame. Perhaps it does have something to do with that.

Pic Related, sank in a small mud rut a week after I bought the Yukon.

In my old 2wd Colorado, keeping the PSI 2-3 integers below manufacturer recommendations allowed me to offroad with okay efficiency (for a 2 wheel dribe trucc, anyway). Might be something to consider especially with a 2 ton, 2 story land battleship like yours.
Since it's GMC, I think it's an Admiral Sanchez class battleship named after the famous Admiral in its country of origin.

/shitpost

Centre of gravity does make sense but that doesn't explain why the Bronco is such a capable offroader given a much higher centre. Front heavy (65:35?), top heavy vehicles aren't the easiest to remove out of hair situations, especially when they weighs two tonnes.

Though, let's not prove a point and possibly confirm our guesses incorrectly. FX trims (and the GM / Chebby equivalent that I'm too drunk to remember right now... CZ? AK? M4? Something like that) on Ferds are angled so that the rear axle is slightly put towards the centre allowing for a larger bed sag. This allows less to and carry rating but a more capable offroad. They either do this or do something with the weight and suspension.
This is also how modern Suburbans (and the shitty Ferd competition) allows for a "capable" offroader.

TL;DR. It could just be the design of the axles and that would be my guess. You're right sandbags could help (I use cinderblocks with some wood to keep them in place) but on a 2 tonne vehicle with a tow capacity of 6000lbs *, I don't think it'd really make that big of a difference.

*(i couldn't find the figure of the Yukon tow for that year so I just took the K1500 off memory and subtracted 1000lb from it)

What's your final drive? If you dial back the rear end and opt for less aggressive tires you can probably save some MPGs. My first burb had that motor and it ran very well. Only issue I ran into with that truck was the cat was starting to clog, or problems arising out of me beating the shit out of it, going overboard on trails. Which brings me to my next point...

I blew out my 4 wheel drive after sending the truck airborne. It was equipped with unsafely bald ROAD TIRES! I could still go more places than friends with lifted F150s and Jeeps with mud tires... It all comes down to technique. Granted, the burbs are bigger, and as such might have better weight balance, so I could be wrong...

Otay. I think it's finally time to get a full winch set instead of calling up friends and having them tow me out with four ratchets and clanks.

This thing is fuckin $100 for a two tonne (looks like UTV) recovery winch. Is it a smart idea to get this with the appropriate shackles and get the wires replaced with a 3/8 so I don't die if it snaps?

It's for a Ranger and not a two tonne monstrosity so it should be fine, eh? Jeep TJs have a similar curb weight but closer axles.

I'm also never doing such intense offroading lacking necessity so the worst case situation is getting stuck in the snow up north Ontario.

Say what you want about taking qts offroading, but they don't help at all when you're stuck in -10 degree weather with no snowshoes.

It's reliable but not comparatively over the V6. Probably the only modern trucc I'd pay money for. Gas mileage is a moot point.
But the real kicker is the torque (and HP, I guess, too). It's at like 180 compared to the V6's 260.

I-4s selections are only made for light truccs (I guess now these are really mid sized truccs) for fleeters to save companies and governments a few thousand dollars per unit. Also for people who want a trucc but are 3poorfag.

Towing demands a V6. Fun demands a V6. Also, the resale value will make that $7000 a bit more worth it it in the long run, too.

Here's a question: why not get a Ranger instead? :D? Same gas mileage, maybe more reliable, and you won't care if you hit a dent in the thing.

Hey, benzene. Since you're here, I'm going to migrate that winch question here too.
If doing 2-4 winch jobs per hour on 2ton vehicles, is it worth running an alternator and adding an extra battery?

I mean, the winch is $700 might as well do another $300 in batteries.
See >>16224081
>>
>>16227701
How long are the intervals? If the vehicle is running all the time between intervals and with the winch on I wouldn't be too concerned. I'd bring an extra 100ah battery or similar just to make sure, but as long as your alternator & batteries are in good condition it should be alright

Get the winch and just try it out somewhere safe, figure out how much you have to use it before you feel it starting to lack power

Well, I've been offroading for utilitarian porpoises only to get to sites and cottages and have only recently sought out offroading as a hobby.
So to be honest, I'm not quite sure. This is mainly so that my friend's personal 2wd Ram1500 (he got it 2016 showroom throwout for $14 500) can come with me on trails and I'll pull him out.

How to diagnose alternator issues? I don't think the alternator has been looked at in the past 6 years but I did just get a new battery. If I'm going to be bringing more batteries, why don't I just hook up a second one at that point? There's an area I might be able to make it fit above the front wheelwell.

Is the 5/16ths of an inch wire good enough? Or should I spend the extra $200 and look for a 3/8ths as you mentioned?

The easy way; take a multimeter, put it to 20v and test it out on the battery with the car not running. It should be like 12.4 or above, although it can be more depending on the battery and condition

With the engine running it should be like 13.5-14v. This can also vary with the engine, but anything under 13v could be worth getting looked at

You might aswell hook up the extra battery right away - then you'll keep it nice and charged when driving normally, and less stress when you suddenly need the extra power

I wouldn't recommend using steel wire - a rope does pretty much just as fine. The wire is sleeker, easier to clean, lasts longer and can take more weight, but a steel wire with a few tons of tension WILL kill you when it snaps, while a rope will just break

It depends on what you're doing with your rig. Rock crawlin n whatnot, you're better off with rope but if you in heavy mud, abrasive environments steel cable is the way to go longevity wise. I've seen others snapping cables, if you put a dampener on the line while you're winching you'll be fine. Just use common sense and stand clear of the cables range and have your hood up while winching.

I run a 8500# superwinch on my jeep, 5/16 cable, snatch blocks and rigging out the wazoo, pulled my jeep out and full size pick ups buried right to the frame in mud. Haven't had a single issue in the two years I've been running this winch.

Hehe.

Are you in the north/mid west? Looks like a quite the conqueror. Info on the fog lights, too, please.

I also read up on the synthetics/ropes vs. steel and this was pretty much the conclusion. Up here in the Canadian shield and mudder areas, rocks, sand, dirt, and whatever get into the rope / kevlar and abrade it. Steel looks to be the only long term option.

So 5/16s are good noeuhg, eh? Do I have to actually buy a blanket or can I just use the cinderblocks that I wheel around with anyway?

Since this is on ORG, I'll say:
9 speed gears means weirdly geared ratios. My BMW X3 already has 8 gears and other than highway efficiency, it is not better than a 6 geared vehicle. Will be heavily annoying offroad.
You can get a 15 year old XJ for the three month's payment on a new Cherokee and the 15 year old will outperform the new vehicle offroad any day.

Come to think of it. Unless you're going to be mallcrawling every day and using it for comfort, there is no upside to getting a 2017 Jeep Cherokee. They're also known to break down and have Jeep/Chrysler gaslight you to try to weasel out of their warranty.

Southwestern Ontario actually, I do a lot of my wheeling in the Canadian shield about 6 hours north of here.

KC Apollo Pro fogs mounted on the bumper and Rugged Ridge spots on the a pillar, it puts out enough light to see where you're going hah.

You can use your floor mats, a heavy jacket, blankets, w/e item you have that you can drape around the cable with a bit of weight. I have thick heavy rubber floor mats in my jeep that I use when I'm winching.

It'll work just fine. I think what my buds use are Spectra 9.5mm ropes, which has a breaking point at about 5 ton I believe, so a 10 ton should be more than enough

Kevlar should do just fine when snapping - it is a fabric, after all. Never used it tho, so dont quote me

>>16228062
The guys I know who do "serious" offroading just swap out the ropes every year to stay safe

But yeah, you are right - if you use your head you can use pretty much any material for wire and do fine

How are Norway's gun laws? Also, yes. No engine running. So I guess sand / winter crawling, I can switch out the metal wires for the kevlar. Looks like 0.6cm thickness will be able to hold 6 tonnes so that should be more than enough.
They have high tension and abrasion resistant polymers as well but they just look expensive and niche. I'll test out the breaking point on kevlar since my profession allows me to buy lots of kevlar for very cheap.

Time to look at winch mounting. Always helpful there, benziggity! Enjoy the rest of your cold Sunday.

Its fucking 2c/36f out... it should NOT be this war in the end of November

And our gun laws? Random question, but I'll tag along. Americans would label our laws as very restrictive, but once you get inside the system and learn it you can see that its pretty endurable

>shotguns, any gauge
You can get one legally in your name at 16 if you've done the national hunting test, which you can do at the age of 14 and onwards. Between 14 and 16 you can borrow a shotgun (you have to sign a contract between you and the person you're borrowing it from, and both of you will have to keep a copy of the contract) to use for hunting and shooting activities. Total length of weapon must be 840mm or longer, and barrell must be 400mm or longer.
>rifle, any calibre
Legally in your name at 18, can be borrowed at the age of 14 to be used for small-game hunting. You can only hunt small game until you're 16. All calibres up to, but not including, .50BMG/12.7mm are allowed.
Length of weapon is the same as shotgun
>pistol
21 or older, and you have to be an "active" member of a shooting club for atleast the last six months, preferrably one that is involved in pistol/revolver shooting. Length of weapon must be under 840mm, and barrell under 40mm. Maximum caliber allowed is .44 magnum, not sure how the calculation is done as .45 ACP is still legal.

You can keep 10 000 rounds of any ammunition you want in a house, or 15 000 if 5000 or more of them are .22LR or .22 short
No rules regarding how many you can own, you just have to document a use for them

No specific weapons about semi automatics. Most military style rifles are not allowed to be used for hunting, but you can own prettty much all semi automatic rifles to use at the range.

Automatics are hard to get, and you'll have to be a member of the national gun-collection club for two years or something, and fullfill a number of demands

I'm sure there is more, but I don't got all night to write an essay on cuckistan gun laws

nah breh, there is a list of semi auto weapons you can own and the rest are illegal

here's the list if you want a look

Come to Toronto, senpai. I have similar feelings except all my friends are either entry level jobs or graduate students so they're all poor and take vehicles. The benefit is that they want to go wheeling but I can only bring one along.

Or even Windsor. I haven't needed to go to Windsor in a year but there are a decent amount of fertile forest land that you can hop around. Winches are mostly useless in fields when you can't wrap them around a tree, though.

>>16228420
"military style weapons" I hate this. We're "OK" in Canada since we only have the classification of non-restricted, restricted so you can hunt with anything non-restricted.
This includes the CZ858, Tavor, T97, and other "military style weapons" but restrict the other guns with the exact same functionality like the AK and AR-15s.
That's good though. I'm just looking around areas in Europe to go hunting in. UK and Ireland are top priority and am looking for other gun friendly states. I'll probably just bring my Rem 700 and dribe that around.

Seems like a standard area then.

Hope it gets cold, soon!

Actual Armalite platform competitive shooters are rare. If they did, it would be under another style AR-10 and M-15 "non military" weapons that trade field utility for rigidity. The 7 prong rotating bolt was built more for sheltered durability than for target shooting. Even the C7s and M16 20-inch barrels are surpassed by something like a SCAR-l which I think is actually used as squad designated shooters.

What about the haemmerli toting biathalon shooters in Norway? I remember my airgun days. Good times.

Make sure you get one with the 4.0. The 4cyl is OK on gas, but lacking pretty bad in the power department. It was mainly for fleet vehicles. The 3.0 is just a big piece of shit, gets shit mileage and performs like shit (I'm still salty), and the 4.0 is pretty OK.

Explorer 5.0 swaps are well documents and not incredibly difficult, since they were basically the same vehicle.

Investments transcends simple re-selling the vehicle. I expect to sell my Ranger 4 years down the line and would only resell sooner if I have enough to get a Defender (or similar style) + trailer for my hauling needs.
But for insurance, upkeep, self-worth, and general reliability, these all save you money WHILST you have the vehicle

I have a 4.0 and will definitely look into the explorer swap. How much extra HP and everything does that give you? How is the engine bay and how does it compare to a standard thunderbird ferd turbo that brings it up to around 250HP?
Also, you reiterate everything I normally say about Rangers, lol. Fleeted 2.3s are great for boosting the value of my Ranger :D

>Investments transcends simple re-selling the vehicle... insurance, upkeep, self-worth, and general reliability, these all save you money WHILST you have the vehicle

This is true, it is often worth it to spend a little extra upfront to get a good vehicle that won't nickle and dime you later, not sure how your self-worth ties into the equation. It is generally a poor idea, however, to get a vehicle one the principle of "good trade in value", because you could opt for a lease and save yourself on the loss.

As far as the Ranger goes, I was a victim of the 3.0, so I'm not really aware of the mods available for the 4.0.
I seem to recall that the 4.0 pushrod is like 170 HP and 215 ft-lb, and the SOHC is higher but notoriously unreliable.
The 5.0 will throw out around 215 HP and like 290 ft-lb of torque, with lots of room for improvement. The torque is the big win, and the explorer 5.0 is mostly held back by the cam and more restrictive exhaust. Also it's way more reliable than the SOHC 4.0

I never got the chance to try the swap myself, life and the military happened.

Is the 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor a good off-road vehicle? I'm correct in assuming it's better than a regular Chevrolet Silverado, right? In respect to off-roading, of course.

Is it the best in general? It's specifically made for it and it's an all-in-one package. Is it possible to do better? I'm not interested in which brand is better or all of that... I just want a truck that's built for off-road that you can just pick up (hehe) and go.

"self-worth" being the worth of the vehicle. Liklihood of it breaking down and how comfortable/ safe you feel in the maintenance of the vehicle. This was worth it enough for me to buy a 2010 Ranger (and pay the extra premium) earlier this year.

OHV 4.0s comes with the downside of not being made after (2004?). My SOHC is going strong at 190 000km and I plan an engine inspection / swap at anywhere between 220 000 - 250 000.
M O N E Y P I T

Looks like a turbo might be more worth it, desu. I already push out 240torque and don't think the extra bit is worth the hwy gas mileage decrease. That'll cost me a good $40 / $50 per month if I do that swap ):.

>military
Neat! Better than my woodlands larping /k/ ass.

>>16231879
It is (whether designed or not, it is) as a sandbarge and doesn't have the interior to keep up with mud as well as other vehicles. Too many sensors, electronics, and weak teeth underneath. Funny thing is that if you google "Ford Raptor offroad" in images, the first mud raptor is a stock image from Ford and the next two muddy images are links to a youtube video of a Raptor ripping out its timing belt in a mud puddle.

It could be better than a regular Silverado if built but all those vehicles aren't meant to handle "tough" conditions unless you build them the way you want.
Get a Ranger, Taco, preferably in single cab. Or if you want to get real offroad truck (rock climbing, mudding, or other specific niche), get an IH Scout, Jeep custom, etc.
>>
>>16231945
Keep us posted if you do the turbo, I've personally never seen a turbo ranger, and I think it would be really neat.
I think they had worked out a lot of the kinks of the SOHC by 2010, and that's a lot of driving it seems you do.

>Better than my woodlands larping /k/ ass.

Time to get that second job

Honestly, just try to save up and get an unmodded Hlux/LC, then build it as you go along at your own pace and when you feel that you can afford it

It'll feel so much better when you can finally afford the next piece of the puzzle. You start with an original Hilux, then you put on some fatter tires and it feels like a new car completely. Then you give it a little lift and suddenly you can go places you never imagined. Then perhaps you manage to get your hands on a locking rear diff?

Piece by piece - its the way to go

Which ones?
Standard two-door? Pinin?

They're alright - simple cars, do quite well offroad and they tend to be priced nicely. They tend to be hammered quite badly tho, and they are prone to rust pretty much everywhere

The 4D56 engine also likes to eat gaskets and heads when it starts reaching high kilometres, so don't expect not having to to a rebuild at one point

If you can find one in good condition I wouldn't call it a dangerous purchase, but if you can also afford a Nissan Patrol or even a Toyota LandCruiser I'd go with those
>>
>>16234876
Standard two-door.

LandCruisers and Patrols are easy to come by, or import. But the Toyota's are sometimes quadruple the price even if in worse condition.

They are, but there is a reason for it also.

First; yes, I drive a Hilux but I'm not a Toyota fanboy and I recognize that they also have flaws.

Now that I've said that; the LC/HiLux is way, WAY better built and more solid than what Nissan and Mitsubishi were producing at the same time. The engines are just that much more reliable, axles and joints can take a lot more punishment, and they were really good when it came to rust.

The aftermarket for Toyota is also insanely huge compared with any other brand, which is quite important when you're heading into serious offroading.

All of the guys I know who do offroading have switched to Toyotas (except that one stubborn fuck with a G-Class, although he is considering getting rid of it now that he is in the process of his second engine rebuild in two years) if they ever had anything else, that alone should be a bit of a pointer

Is... the Jeep aftermarket in Norway not a thing? That's quite interdasting that Toyota overtakes the offroad market there.
Also, I see a defender in the back. How true is that those are more oberlanders than they are off roaders? Stock, of course.

Jeep folk in Norway are strange people. You either have people in absolutely fucked old Grand Cherokees with niggerrigged lifts and big tires, or you have mid-30's something guys with stock Wranglers in all trims; both "standard" Saharas with no equipment and small wheels and the factory-modded Rubicons.

Problem is that these people are stupidly proud of "MUH JEEP" and will think that its an absolutely unstoppable offroad machine no matter what, meaning that they dont believe in being careful, having winches or even letting air out of the tires.

Defenderbros are good people, but also a bit "proud" of their cars and they somehow always seem a bit too afraid to hurt their cars - it should also be mentioned that they ARE Land Rovers, and they do tend to have a lot of malfuctions

Fun thing; for some reason overlanding is way bigger in the Land Rover community than in the Toyota/Nissan/Mitsubishi/Jeep/G-Class communities

Also; some people try to use big american SUV's and pickups here aswell, with a big emphasis on TRY... they are simply way too big for the type of offroading we do here
>>
>>16235046
>jeep folk in Norway are strange people
>as compared to "normal" people in Norway
>as compared to "normal" people in ORG

Lowblow shitposts aside, that's actually really funny. All of my international friends (ie outside of the geographical North America) have touted Jeeps to be unreliable to shit and thus do not have a culture around them. It's funny that Norway develops its backwoods proud culture. See: >>16228996
Stock jeeps ARE capable of doing a lot of shit, though. They probably just don't do technical paths either because they don't want to, can't find them, or don't know they exist.

And yes. One of the reasons I fear Defenders (the only ones available in Canada are pre2000s, anyways) are the huge mechanical issues that cost MORE on top of the $30 000 I will already be paying. I sure as hell aren't importing a modern one, anyway.
Retaliatory fun thing: Land Rover Defenders are the only boxy vehicles done well (short of a military surplus IFV). The amount of space and lack of trim in the back is genuinely impressive. Kudos to LR to maintaining their niche.

I kinda wish Yoda had a similar offroad market in NA but Jeep took that market pretty well and are probably the only thing of theirs worth buying in the modern lineup.

They're capable in stock form; yeah - but people seem to think that their stock jeep on 30.x9.5's can take on LC's running 37's, lockers and dual transfers

They also have a high rate of shit going bad when offroading, but this is due to mentality I've been talking about - believing too much in their vehicle and not knowing its limitations

Here is a small demonstration of what a lightly kitted Hilux can do with a dual-transfer and the right tires

Oh yeah. One of the most valuable lessons I learned in my stock Colorado was that offroading is not what is capable but whether it is possible. IE pick your battles.

Neat little Hilux. Looks like one of those IH Scouts I see dribing around here but probably much more suited to the climate.

Last question: how do you handle your clutch like that in the snow? The operator seems incredibly competent and knows how to handle it in the snow. If you told me to pull off what he just did, I'd probably pop it in a few times when I felt a bit too much resistance...

my man, there is no one driving that truck - it said that earlier in the video. the owner has just installed some huge ass aftermarket gears so the truck is just idling over all of that
>>
>>16235476
>idling

So how does that work exactly?
>>
>>16235481
it's geared low enough that it doesn't stall in gear with the engine idling.
>>
>>16235481
you know how a low range gear set works in the transfer case? well its that x2 that by bolting 2 transfer cases. so you have low, then lowlow range. But most of the times when the guys just idle they have their idle turned up a few hundred rpm.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hoajyemsl6k

this vid shows the benefits of reargearing your t-case in action. it changes the gear ratios so even at idle your vehicle is producing enough power to move forward because the gearing is so tight

>>
>>16236647

pick one. full sized is meant for hauling or plowing. it'll be too heavy for technical trails. this is why the Silver2500 and F-250s or F-150 raptors don't work. Also why modern 4 door SUV with backs don't work offroad well either in mud and technicals.

Are you towing stuff? Plowing?
If not, get the Tacoma which will probably maintain resale value much better, be better offroad, and most importantly: be like $15 000 cheaper.
>>
>>16236723
Surprisingly a TRD Pro Taco is more expensive than the TRD Pro Tundra. And while I don't think I'd do a lot of towing, I forsee hauling a lot of shit around on my in-laws farm I'm inheriting so having a bigger bed is why I was leaning for the Tundra in the first place.

Huh. I did not know that. I guess the Taco just has the advantage of being milked for the name as well as the add-ons and more "consumer friendly" than the Tundra.

My Ranger can tow 6000lbs which is a trailer and more than anything you would need like furnite. Not for construction needs, of course.

I think you should be fine with the Tacoma or if you want to save some money there, you could go with an old Tacoma / Ranger / Hilux from 2008-2011,
