Mid pegs. They are saying that there is supposed to be a lot of aftermarket "customization" available for it. Other than the rake, what's stopping someone from fitting a long flat seat to it to make it a standard/ujm ?

The entire fucking theme Honda is pushing the bike with is that its a platform for customization. What separates a UJM from a cruiser with mid controls that hasn't been lowered?

it's actually not that bad. it's a little intimidating knowing that the slightest touch of whiskey throttle and/or cluth inaccuracy will spin the rear before you can blink, but it's not actually that bad. i think liters are actually better in the rain on the freeway than other displacements because you can putt around doing the speed limit at 4-5k. if you never want to touch that fire-breathing powerband you really don't have to

I'm looking for a house and I've found one at an excellent price in the right area, the only turd in the punchbowl is that there's no garage and the back garden isn't really accessible from the street. I'm also generally not a huge fan of houses where the front door opens straight into a room but this looks like a good compromise because it's a 4 bedroom with two large bedrooms on the first floor (the next one above ground level) so one could become the new lounge.

Anyway, how stupid of an idea would it be to convert the downstairs front lounge into a motorcycle garage so my baikus can live safely off the street?

It shouldn't, I did mine (admittedly on a big boy bike) a few minutes late because they had to let the ice melt a bit. The tarmac they use also drains rather well.

As for gears, it really depends what bike you have, I think my YBR125C couldn't quite manage it because it had a smaller rear sprocket than the standard YBR.

>Just fucking hate tests so much, had some extremely bad experiences with car tests.
Me too, I did my car test first and managed 2 serious and 1 dangerous points on the first go (passed on the third attempt). In the end, I passed my Mod 1 on the first attempt but had to take my Mod 2 because, according to the examiner, I 'rode through a cap so narrow you couldn't fit a cigarette paper between my bar and the lorry'.

For the U turn, bear in mind that it's a lot wider than the average street and there's no camber fucking you up. Just keep your hands away from the front brake for the slow manoeuvrers and keep the throttle nice and stable.
>>
>>16192474
I doubt it, the walls are definitely going to be load bearing and it's a 60s terraced house with two storeys above it. Also, if I had the budget for a remodel that serious, I'd just get the slightly nicer and more expensive house that's on the next street.

but fire investigators can generally determine the source of a fire. Unless you're running the bike inside your house or doing something equally retarded to allow them to start a fire I don't see how it could be a problem.

>>
>>16192442
If you own it, do what thou wilt. I would avoid a conventional garage door and choose something which will blend in and be decently secure. Your mod should display NO clue from the outside that bikes live inside.

Conversion is easy. Buy horse stall rubber matting. Makes great shop flooring and insulates too. Many people use it as weight room flooring. You don't need to mod the walls, and you can put nearly all your gear and toolboxes on carts with large casters for easy rolling. Industrial plastic carts are great for keeping jobs organized. Kit out your space with no mods to the building itself for comfyness and easy resale.

Bikers have been building bikes indoors since forever. Own multiple large fire extinguishers properly located near fire exits.

Do all your engine runs and tuning outdoors. Bounce house and commercial carpet drying fans are fucking wonderful for forced air into a shop if needed. Portable, cheap at yard sales, and run on house current. I use both in my garage areas.

Okay guys am I retarded or something. I have been fucking with my shift lever on my klx 300 this morning and no position I put it in makes it possible to shift with a dirt bike boot. Am I missing something? Cause I cant lift it more high without it just hitting the motor and not being able to up shift. Seriously just gunna beat the shit out of it to make it able to move up but rather not take my anger out on it if there is a better way.
>>
>>16192524
I've had three complete motorcycles indoors with a couple more in parts elsewhere. No problems, but my landlord was my motorcycle mentor and fine with it.

You can choose not to do firey shit indoors. It's quite easy.

For outdoor work, fab a welding table with a good bench vise. Paint the vise and grease the screw. My outdoor vise has been there ~ 25 years uncovered. I keep my bench grinder outdoors too, with a simple cover made from a plastic barrel cut lengthwise. No dust inside my shop, no cleanup, no problem. Do yer dirty shit outdoors, clean work indoors. No worse than working off a maintenance truck. Inxustrial plastic cart can support yer engine outdoors for cleaning, then bring it indoors for work.

For outdoor welding you can MIG or TIG with proper windbreaks. Pipe and structural welders build billions of dollars of infrastructure every year that way.
Cheap welding curtains or even shower curtains get the job done.

People neater than I have made some sexy home shops. Copy success.

>>
MHM... MONEY TALKS
>>
>>16192594
the lever should be about level with the footpeg when at rest. You should be sitting at the front of the seat so your toes kind of point down without having to bend your ankle. To shift up you scoop your toe under the lever and kick up with your leg. To shift down you lift your foot up above the lever and kick down. There's really not much ankle movement in shifting with off-road boots.

But the lip of my boot is the only thing that fits under enough to lift the lever and seems sketchy to use the tip edge to shift up. For me to get boot under lever have to basically be planking on the bike to scoop under. I rode with boots before just most bikes adjust to fit bigger toe boxes and no luck but hitting the case when I try.
>>
>>16192649
Could a modified or different lever work?

It shouldn't suck too much to find other levers which match your shift lever's hole diameter, bolt location and spline count.
>>
>>16192633
I have no idea what metal it's made out of but you might want to find out and then apply the appropriate heat treatment to first soften it before shaping then re harden once you're done.
>>
>>16192633
>>16192687
Alternatively, you could fit a heel shifter.

I can't speak for /o/ but cafe racers are fun, cheap, and pretty cool. They're not considered cool by the hardcore sport bike only crowd, and they're not considered cool by the HD or cruiser crowd, but they have their uses.

Most cafe racers I see are just cheap commuters, or they're rigged for a drag race like a modified xs1100 or something.

Been looking at some but alot of the ones were said to not actually work because of them hitting the case haha.
>>16192687
Like some basic steel and I might try iy or just keep looking for new lever or bikeu.
>>16192691
How do you shift up on those and is it hard to learn? Could always tryout a quickshifter for the hell of learning to install them.
>>
>>16192750
>Like some basic steel
Check it's magnetic and anneal it by bringing it to cherry red then letting it cool slowly, work it how you want then quench it in oil before finally heat treating at around 500F (the outer layer should turn brown, if you hit blue you've gone too far).

>How do you shift up on those and is it hard to learn
You stomp with the heel to shift up and stomp with your toe to shift down. It's more of a cruiser thing but it's exactly what you need if you want to ride with an inflexible ankle.
>>
>>16192779
>then quench it in oil
*after bringing it to cherry red, obviously, dipping cold steel in oil is just going to make it oily.

full lock, counterlean, steady 1% throttle if you have a good bike, slip clutch and/or drag rear brake if you have a shit bike (but don't drag rear brake if you have combined brakes)

Haven't been on this site in years, but quick question, why the fuck does Suzuki make a bike that kills itself when wheeling, when they know that's all people will do on them?

you realize that's the vast majority of motorcyclists right there, right? you could argue that essentially the ENTIRE motorcycling community hates the shit out of the ancient, slow as shit, style-over-substance focused """"""cafe racers""""""

we hate them for good fucking reason. they're faddish bikes for faddish hipsters
>>

anyone who hates cafes but not cruisers is a massive hypocrite

non-touring cruisers are defined by putting aesthetics over performance.

if you want comfort get a standard.
>>
>>16193033
who says i don't, you stuffy cunt? that said, cruisers are at least comfy. cafe racers -- by definition -- take comfy bikes and turn them into torture racks. they're almost worse than choppers

Probably sized for better resonance pulses to help evacuate exhaust gasses. Kinda like how velocity stacks are sized to capture intake pulses at the correct time.

I better not get something that's easily damaged.

A good quality one won't, what I meant is that because the smoke tint is diffused throughout the plastic you can buff out scratches, you can't do this with a mirror finish.
>>
>>16193417
The mirror coating is usually easy to damage but it's on the inside.
I choose smoked.

I've not being riding much lately because of neck pain. Unfortunately, I'm planning to buy a house about that time next year so I'll likely be broke as shit and will have to settle for a Scottish holiday.
>>
>>16193754
Houses are better than motorcycles, and as we age we lose the inclination and finally the ability to ride. Neck pain sucks, but home ownership is very nice. Homeowner with chronic neck pain here.
