Shit no, steering neck bearings are quite basic to do, tho removing any shit in the way may be tedious.

There's nothing very complex about the job. Least convenient part is supporting bike. I usually hang mine off a cargo strap from my portable engine hoist, but others hang theirs off beams in their shop.

If your inner race on the bottom fork clamp resists removal you can notch it using cutting discs in a Dremel or angle grinder then split it with a cold chisel. I often prefer this to fighting with pullers and I have the right pullers.
>>
>>16145201
latex gloves or basically anything that stops air/windchill.
>>
>>16145076
Worst of both worlds right?
jack of all trades, master of none yeah?
Why get a dirt bike when you could get a heavier dual sport on road tyres that has about as much off road ability as a gs500 does right?

and why bother getting a road bike?
Just ride your pigfat dual sport with knobbies on road, chew through a set of tyres within 100km while having reduced cornering and braking ability.
>>
>>16145040
for dual sport you generally want a knobbier tire on the front. That makes it so you wash out less in dirt and the rear doesn't wear down in 30 miles on pavement . You lost a bit of your braking ability on the street tho so there's always a tradeoff.
>>
>>16144379
>The possibility of you crashing in the first 5 years of riding are very high.

However those stats are HEAVILY influenced by idiots.

Get trained. Practice proper riding, and don't play racer on the fucking street. Have fun, don't do stupid shit, and never, ever ride buzzed or drunk. It's pretty easy. I started with a bike years before bothering with a cage license. Ride a lot, but also practice emergency maneuvers because all riding skills are perishable skills.

Refuse to ride distracted. Scan systematically. When you ride you develop muscle memory so reinforce that by putting down the miles. It's fun so why not?
>>
>>16145031
they look like they would be good off road
>>
>>16145228
Unless they are 100% off road tyres they are terrible off road.
even a lot of 100% off road tyres are still shit off road.
>>
>>16144327
>I just don't want her to literally freeze outside

Machines aren't people and freezing doesn't hurt a motorcycle. I've left my Harley FXR outdoors for most of the last 28 years I've owned it. It only comes indoors for maintenance. (My collectible Norton etc live indoors but that's because I hate redoing cosmetics.)

kek to the max, ive ridden a gs500 and my drz off road back to back. and you are full of shit.
also you are being subjective as fuck. its ok to be a pavement princess anon, its not ok to be a bitch.

>>16145228

yes that's what happens when you give more power than there is traction to handle it.

This is true of all tyres on every bike, even racing slicks on tarmac, why are you identifying the problem as the tyres not having enough traction when the real answer is you gave it too much?

Actually I disagree with the suspension, it's newer and more forgiving, but I'd say the drz's suspension is better overall. As for light, yeah definitely, 25lbs is quite alot for these bikes, and even with it's 6th gear, drz still outclasses it on top speed, which aint huge for a dual sport, but still.

The WR being more expensive, with less torque, ehhhhh. I'd love to see a 450 dual sport though guh

But for it's price-point, it's a great bike, you have dual sports like Husqy's, KTM's, FROM THE FACTORY, that is.

>>

Okay but you're getting into 650's, which aren't -really- in the same league as things like a dizzer or a wr. On top of that, being america we don't have a street legal wr450(fucking unfortunately cause holy shit I'd be all over that)

but really, it does not. it's new and lighter, but for the extra 400ish bucks from a drz, it's not even worth it. DRZ outperforms it and has more power to play with.

Well if you actually want a serious reply..

Nothing wrong with them, my guess is people who are saying that have never ridden one.
they have great handling, extremely smooth and usable power delivery, decent suspension and they are cheap compared to all of the other bikes in the same class.

Really doesn't matter what bike the thing is capable of more than what 98% of people can do on it so do people really need the absolute best on the market?

As far as riding one on road goes, id expect about 20,000km before it needed piston and rings. probably take 50,000km before needing a complete engine rebuild.
engine oil changed every 2000km or so which really isnt a big deal when you consider the fact that they use 1/4 as much oil as a road bike does to begin with, 4 times as many changes makes sense.

If you were riding one around a race track and revving the ever living shit out of it sure, regular dirt bike maintenance intervals, new oil every 5-10 hours and piston and rings after 100 but yeah...
even out in the scrub you won't hurt the engine that much.

have you ridden a klr off road? they call it "the tractor for a reason. its heavy as fuck and handles like shit off-road, they are comfy on the highyway tho
the XR is a little better but its still way less nimble than the DRZ
and the 250s are pretty gutless in the streets.
the WR is defiantly a way more capable bike, but it requires more maint, not street legal from factory, and its more expensive.

the drz is not a perfect bike by any means, but its defiantly versatile, reliable, and fun as fuck.

I used a torque wrench today for the first time and I have to say that I am super skeptical of the torque specifications provided by Suzuki for the front and rear axle. every 5000km or so yeah?
has a 2.5 litre oil capacity.
rmx would need an oil change every 2000km or so if it was being used on road, could probably get 3000km if you wanted to push it, that is with a 1.2 litre oil capacity.

its the same amount of cost and it takes 5 minutes to change the oil on a bike.
