>The assist feature is activated by the clutch, which communicates to the ECU and raises the engine RPM when the clutch begins to engage.

Basically if you don't give it enough throttle to take off the bike notices it and rises RPM. Without it you would just stall like usual.

Nothing to worry about, just relevant for new riders.

fact is, too many retards that think "oh shit, I have all of these electronic doodads, my bike is basically uncrashable" will get bikes like these, vastly overestimating these "security features", and will end up fucking killing themselves. The last thing this world needs is motorcyclists that have no idea how to ride because their bike does it all for them, in addition to car drivers that also basically let their cars drive themselves

Washed bike, convieniently the 5 degree weather turned out to be sun and no wind around noon so I actually developed something of a sweat. All that's left for winter storage is to put it in neighbor garage, mix in fuel stabilizer, remove battery and seat and shed a single tear.

So I survived my first season of riding:
Times crashed: 1
Times dropped: 6?
Turn signals replaced: 4
Flywheels jammed: 1
Waves: many
Friends made: 0
Girls picked up: 0
Travels through shitty small villages that can go fuck themselves: 2
SEM2 trip: n/a
Boring webms: 2 and counting

I live on a slope and have no garage, unparking it the first bunch of times was hard. Also it's got a choke and once I unparked it, put in neutral, let the choke rip, and while doing this put on the rest of my gear. Vibrations made it move JUST A TINY BIT and then it fell on the downslope side. Adrenaline rush getting it back up was real.
>>16139459
Technically 2 now, once on very first ride on own motorcycle, driving it home underestimated a roundabout. Then like 2 days ago I took out someone's rear light in stop-and-go-traffic. It was a weird day, I was riding 150kmh on highways having fun, then on way home at 20kmh I hit someone.

This so much

The only close call i actually had was when I was riding with a mate of mine up a rather steep mountain at dawn. I had my GPS on, and got distracted by that, and afterwards, looked into my rear view mirror to check if he was still there. I must have only been looking away from the street for one or two seconds, but that was enough to already be on the shoulder at 40 kmh. I luckily could still save it and clear the corner, but that made me realise how vitally important it is to always 100 % know what's in front of you

"cleared" is political spin. there are no charges because she's sufficiently insulated from them by her underlings. look for presidential pardons for weiner and abdedin from obama before he leaves office. this should confirm for you that there was something they were hiding that was never made explicitly public.

comey chose not to press charges primarily because they wouldn't stick, and if they did would create a constitutional crisis

An extra 12 pounds from a tank that holds an extra 2 gallons wouldn't hurt anything but aesthetics. Add a fraction of a pound for tank material.

CBR250RR (MC22) or RVF400 (MC30) for second bike?
Like the sound of the I4 and the lower weight, but like the bigger power of the V4. Parts (I think) would be more available for the 250 purely because there were more of them sold here (neither were grey imports).
Probs light commuting, track days, tackling local twisties (not too far away so no lengthy tours), etc.

Chinapeople and Indiapeople think so. BMW is doing the same with the abomination of power-weight that is the G310GS. It's purely an attempt to gain a foothold in new markets where scooters rule.

Verify charged battery, then troubleshoot starter relay etc per the schematic in the service manual you bought when you got the bike.

If your headlight is bright, battery is likely good enough to start bike. Check all cables including grounds. If you can jump starter relay (ensure bike is not in gear!) that may start it. If not, if you can access the power cable to your starter and jump from your positive battery cable to that BRIEFLY with a jumper cable you can see if the starter will turn over the engine.
>>
>>16139583
>I got it started, dunno how but im going to get the battery tested.

If it cranked easily the battery may not be the problem. Perform a charging system test per your manual with a meter if possible, or get info from a brand specific forum one of which may have a manual.

There isn't much to starter systems but all the safety nanny-state shit is a (removable, bypassable) hassle.

bet you're happy you crashed that 250 instead of something else, right? i was in the same boat. over the course of my first year of riding, as a 17 year old i must have crashed 5 or 6 times on my EX250 trying to be valentino rossi in the canyons. only minor injuries. a collarbone here, a wrist there, some road rash. a stronger engine would have opened up faster roads and higher speeds, and i'm one of those people who might not have survived on anything bigger.

That an SV?
Damn I'm jealous
There was a perfect SV650 for $2500 I wanted to buy, the seller was a long time rider, did all maintenance, basically as good of a seller admitted you could find.
Wasn't fast enough and I got a DR350 instead with a tiny ass toolbox bolted across from the muffler, kek

I probably would have killed myself on the SV though, I had no riding experience at all.
Would be a cool second bike though, if I don't get cocky and go for a 600.
>>
>>16141154
the SV is an amazing machine through and through. perfect for pretty much anything you can throw at it on pavement.

SVs are really good jack of all trade master of none bikes. Not gonna be out of place doing anything.

Good at commuting, good for long trips, good for twisties and good enough on track days but not really excelling at anything.

Which is basically perfect for people like me who do like to do a bit of everything.

just wear kevlar pantaloons under your normal pants.

in my area SV's have a devoted trackday following. one of the most popular bikes you'll see people bringing in as dedicated machines

they usually need a tiny bit of work to be ultimate weapons though which is the only reason I say that.

>forks are not too good stock, need racetech springs + cartridge emulator
>rearsets don't have the greatest clearance stock
>rear shock could be improved
>master cylinder not the best
>need to find lower fairings for maximum aero

at least here my speed group is populated by 600s and 1000s and it's bloody annoying overtaking them over and over again after they blast past you on the straight.

you think you're the only person to ever think this? motorcyclists tend to always think they're hot shit, it's just the kind of person who is drawn to motorcycles. don't start on a 500, start on a 250. buy used and sell it a year down the road for what you got it for and then move up to your expensive italian dreambike. it's not just about self-control, it's about learning a set of skills which are completely unnatural to humans.

I've ridden my fathers harley plenty, got my liscense on it but I want my own bike
why do people always think they know other people on the internet.
I've race karts, I do track days. I understand how to control a vehicle. and I'm not some 20 year old idiot.

>tfw my suzuki dual sport has literally no storage room
I put a screwdriver in my airbox once so I could adjust my suspension clickers while out riding but it got oily and gross.
I bought a fender pack for it but it's held on straps which go over the top of the pack so it's a hassle to actually get things in and out and keep it secured on the bike so I don't even use it.

what is leaning and yaw control

I've ridden before but this will be MY first bike. maybe i should have specified that I already have my license and have seat time.

Because I do know you.

Your every word exudes an arrogance unfitting of your experience, something we've all been through and we all know about. We actually know you better than you know yourself and there'll come a time in the future where you understand that.

The fact that you are saying you've raced karts as though that's going to impact anything about riding a severely different vehicle tells me all I need to know.

For your first maybe 20,000 km of riding you're a noob on motorcycles.

You need to have no ego when riding a bike, you cannot take this attitude you have right now and find motorcycling nirvana with it. I'm just letting you know.

well I'm not dead yet and I've been riding long enough to be sick of borrowing a bike. although I'm not sure the point you're trying to make tying evasive maneuvers and engine displacement? there's more power but controlling wheelspin and torque delivery is something I'm already pretty well versed in. unless your referencing the weight of the bike? I've had no problems with the bike I ride so far.

it's not "slow" at all. if you could go back in time you could absolutely destroy any GP bike on the grid in 1960. "slow" is not absolute, it's relative -- and relative to a fucking fire-breathing literbike supersport, pretty much ANY vehicle on the road is slow. it's just not a sane or rational baseline.

DR-Z400S>SM. The SM is far less capable off road and practically no advantage on road.

Though keep in mine the 5-speed transmission on the DRZ is fairly limited. If you gear it for off-road it will be revving its nuts off on the highway. Sprocket changes get pretty annoying to do between every ride so it's not ideal if you frequently change between single track one day and highway the next.

The KTM and Husqvarna are literally the same bike. They're a better bike all around than the DRZ but are known to break down more.

I'm mentioning that I have more than the average driver's seat time and experience

>"""ego"""
I know what I want and have the right to purchase what I so please. What elitists like yourself always seem to assume is that self confidence and unwilligness to compromise on where someone spends their own money means that someone has an ego.

Now, I am looking for recommendations that don't have to be """le pinnnacle of riding le experience""" because I won't have any thing to reference it to but I want the damn thing to have more than 500ccs of displacement. now you can either make a recommendation or fuck right off.

it does have a lot to do with learning to drive vehicles that have different handling characteristics, finding where the limit is, whether it be your skill level or the limits of your machine, and respecting that limit.

you idiots have no goddamn critical thinking skills.

just keep repeating the 500cc meme that way you all can have your 500cc le never bored bikes and brown manual diesel wagons.

you know what,I'm out. I'm just gonna go look at bikes on my own and buy something that looks and sounds nice. then proceed to never have a problem with it because I know how to negotiate traffic.

See you idiots never.
