2006 Suzuki GS500 for £1000 in absolutely excellent condition just a few streets away from me, should I go get it?

I really need a bigger engine bike so I can actually overtake and not be such a nuisance on faster roads that are on an incline but I am slightly worried about the lack of any fairings or wind protection.

I'm sorry to say that you aren't going to find that kind of luxury in the world of motorcycles. You can only get one or the other. A proper touring or sport touring bike is the only practical option for a cross country expedition. Maybe a cruiser. Mileage will be shit on all of them but the sport touring will likely be the most fuel efficient.

Off road "multi purpose" bikes aren't really a thing either. You will notice dirt bikes are purpose built specifically for being beat up and crashes often. You want a dual sport with 600cc+ displacement, they can top around 100mph and still be able to offroad OK. With motorcycles you have to compromise between comfort, perfomance, fuel consumption and offroad ability, there's no best solution.

You could just get a generic 650 (Suzuki DR650, Kawasaki KLR650, Honda XR650L) and change the seat for a softer one, put a windscreen on and some luggage rack and you will be able to travel distance while still being able to go on more than just dirt roads. These will not fail you if you do basic maintenance.

If you mainly care about paved roads just get a Suzuki Vstrom or some other ADV bike... BMW F700/800, Honda Transalp, KTM 640 adventure etc. They can still offroad but are considerably heavier, yet more comfortable and confidence inspiring on the road.

Without them, the only storage you have is a couple of tiny little cubby boxes in the sides of the front fairings. No instead-of-the-tank frunk like the NC750.

Anyone got experience with the Bell MX9 Adv? From reviews it looks like a good helmet. I want something that is comfy on the road, but can also fit some goggles into. I would wear a full dirt helmet but i can't fit my sena inside and i'm sure it would be super noisy on road.

Make sure to roll them tightly and insert them all the way. They should be barely tickling your eardrums when inserted.

For the supersport riders here- how do you keep from getting neck pains? The forward lean of the bike makes it so I have to crank my neck back to look forward instead of straight down and it makes my neck very sore and stiff. This is honestly the worst part about the riding position.

Alright, I finally test rode my motorcycle. Everything feels good.

MV does not fucking make street bikes
They make race bikes
And then do -just- enough to make them work on the street

It's less than 2cm from the headers
The wire for it (unless you route it some retarded way) actually rests on the headers
The seating position is ass for street riding, even I have problems flatfooting it
The bars are stupid narrow even by sportbike standards
Throttle is clearly meant to be like 1/2 turn shorter than it is stock
Makes for a fun time tho. Plus working on it is really easy because of that
Dropping the radiator and full exhaust system off takes about 5 minutes
Add in the tank and it's 10 minutes total if you siphon the gas out
Once you do that you can literally get to everything

This is one of the pains that I have never experience don my gixxer. The only discomfort I experience is in my lower back and my wrists sometime go numb if I am doing a long ass highway ride but that is about it.
