OP YOU SON OF A CUNT

Let me know what it turns out to be.
I'm torn between a new bike or a shitbox.

>>16000009
8-9 and saturday, maybe I can make it there the 11 too.
>>
Wait, is EICMA at the same time as Lucca Comics?
Would be cool to go to Lucca by bike but even if I had a bike by then I'm not sure I'd be free for the weekend.
>>16000048
Sure.
>>
Going to be driving through a city centre with 1 way roads and I am fucking terrified of going into the wrong lane, taking a wrong turn and going down the wrong direction on a 1 way street and getting completely lost.

This is the first time i will ever have gone inside a city centre.

I am so scared but I don't know why.
>>
>>16000056

Apparently no, but I'm not a fucking nerd so I can't be sure.
Lucca comics is last week of october, eicma second week of november.

Hey /dbt/ I just checked out and test rode my first bike (Suzuki DR650) off craigslist. Looked great and felt amazing

Is it a bad idea to just buy this without looking at any other DR 650s for sale in my city? The other ones all explicitly mentioned problems with the bikes in their ads, this one doesn't seem to have any

if it works good and its a good price just get it.
they tend to go really fast around here so if you go think on it, you might miss it.
and if the price is good you can always resell and get your money back
>>
>>16000421
The price is $2300 (1997 DR650), a friend of mine advised me to offer $2000 for it
>>
>>16000356

Scooter was my first motorized 2 wheeled anything. I wanted to stick with scooters and eventually get a Burgman. Ended up selling the PCX last October in exchange for a motorcycle. So I kinda do have a motorcycle now.
>>
>>16000453

I was always told to never ever except their first offer. Always try and barter with them for a lower price. Like a few hundred dollars lower. And never lowball them and offer half price. That's why most ads say 'No lowballers!!' cause they're always stupidly unreasonably low offers to where the seller doesn't make barely anything back.

I've already done the 3x3 mod and the rest of those don't really address my main concerns. Yeah I could drop a few pounds with a lithium battery but it isn't really worth the price to me. There's not much I can do about the transmission except a wider gear ratio swap but that costs like $600 and would require splitting the cases so it will never happen. I'm just going to live with the bike the way it is.

I wish I could combine all the nice attributes of my EXC and my DRZ together and get the perfect dual sport. It would probably just be like the EXC with a linkage shock and larger oil capacity plus magically being less maintenance intensive all around.

Anyone have ideas for temporarily plugging a float bowl drain?

The head of my drain screw was stripped so I couldn't tighten it much, on my way home it fell out.
I'm not going to risk stripping the threads with some random screw and I don't want to jam anything down there I can't get back out. I stuck a golf tee inside because the tapered tip could seal the hole but there's nothing to keep it from falling out.

BTW this is just temporary so I can ride down to a shop to pick up a new fuckin $4 screw.

Wanna thank this thread for having one or two posters be dude bros and help me get into riding a bike. Got my temporary permit yesterday and I take my rider skills tomorrow. If it weren't for you guys I never would have taken the plunge and I'm super glad I did.

the LAMS 650s are not exactly fast by bike standards but they're not really slow either, the one area where that'll probably make the biggest difference is they will be more of a handful to ride at low speed, particularly they will be more difficult to do stuff like the MOST test on compared to little babby bikes.

With this being said, I did the MOST test perfectly on my 650 with clip ons (no lost marks). It just means you have to practice and can't just wing it like you can if you show up on a dr-z400 or borrow a CB125E.

Aside from that, once you're rolling at speed, a bike's a bike, you'll definitely have to be trying bloody hard to highside and lose traction on a 650 with modern tyres so don't worry about that. Yeah they'll go about 220 km/hr but you don't have to go that fast if you don't want to.

how long do you guys let your bikes warm up before jumping on and riding? when i had the 848 i was paranoid of doing literally anything wrong to the engine so i would wait -- probably too long -- until the temp gauge stopped saying "LO" and actually read a temperature. with my last bike it had three idle speeds and i'd just wait until it cycled down to the lowest one and then take off.

i'm probably paranoid and over careful though. what's your startup procedure, /dbt/?

my SV took me from pottering around and doing my MOST test to scraping knee and doing my first track day, I don't see why a 650 couldn't for you as well (although I'd ridden dirt bikes a bit as a kid (was never any good mind you) the SV650 was my first road bike)

650s are not 600s, very different temperament and focus.

>i'm aware of my limitations

Well, you won't be. Everyone gets overconfident at some point, I'm not of the opinion you'll be in especially more danger on a 650 than a 300 when that happens though.

End of the day, properly mastering technique is gonna be more down to you than the bike you ride. I'm sure if I started on a 1000 I still would have never become a straight line hero because it's not where my interest lied in riding, ever since I was 5 I wanted to get my knee down, I think I would have gone that route no matter what.

no, just a half boner. I've been trying for the wheelie for a couple days but the roads in my area aren't particularly grippy, so the wheel would spin just enough to keep me down, turns out that intersection has drainage(?) grooves like pic related, and i was going perpendicular to them so the rear wheel could just bite oh so nicely resulting in a wheelie

that argument doesn't necessarily apply to motorcycles, where it's important to have at least a breakpoint of power where you have enough in reserve to get out of sticky situations.

liter peters just seem so excessive. fast bikes are designed to go fast; i lived with an 848 and even just that bike felt like it was going for a stroll at any legal speed. it's like it's taunting you to go fast.
>>
>>16001972
I approach it from the other perspective: What's the point in owning a 300cc if I will only ever really have a need for it on the street?

Time off for 8 weeks at full pay. They tried to stick me on light duties but I told them to go away until 8 weeks is up.

It's not like they can refute it especially since it was a work related injury. I'd sue the fuck out of them if they tried making me go back to work before it's healed.

i heard the 'slow'ness of the fz6r was just from a throttle stop on the tube. file it off your throttle tube for more turn, and you get much more response.

but its maximum potential is found on 80mph cambered, well-paved corners in a controlled environment. don't get me wrong, a big part of me wants a peter, but i'm just trying to figure out if it's really worth wrestling a 1000cc engine around town, in the rain, etc. over a 600 which is basically two faced, in that it's anemic below its powerband and ballsy above it

Of course it's worth it. Even If you never use full power you have something else for it, longevity. It's more city-friendly than a 600 due to torque at low revs.

It's overall a nice experience. No one that rides a big cc sporttourer or touring bike uses the full potential often. It's more chill to "idle" along at 60 with a big bike than to have to revv it up on a small bike to get going.
And it's a nice feeling to know that you have more power than you will ever need.

Has anyone here ever carbon fiber wrapped something? My buddy just wrapped half his bike looks great. gave me some of his leftover wrap to do trim pieces or something. I know ts a pain in the ass but just wondering if anyone has any tips? also clear coating afterwards makes it look better apparently?

Buy a cheap heat gun if you're wrapping curves, and take a youtube wet application tutorial. There's no replacement for real carbon, but the 3m stuff is great for ogio patch ups/badging/hiding scuffs.

1. take off pieces you want to wrap
2. heat wrap up really good (heat gun)
3. shit gets flexible/elastic so its easy to apply. only curves are a pain in the ass.
4. constantly smooth it out while applying, I just used an ice scraper
5. wear gloves so you can constantly heat and not burn your finger offs

best to be done with a friend. He heats up and you can concentrate on wrapping.
Didn't use clear coat but that sounds neat
