How easy is it for a bike to be considered totaled after an accident?
>>
>>15915286
if it is considered totaled it is not worth fixing.

>>15915286
Depends how old it is. Newer supersports can be totaled from cosmetic damage alone.
>>
>>15915286
Depends on the bike, but if you scrape a couple of fairing bits and bend the forks you're probably fucked

Insurance companies don't count streetfighters and used forks from other bikes as legitimate repairs. It's all gotta be OEM.

9/10 of the used bikes you'll find with accident damage have no reported accidents in their VIN checks because nobody wants a salvage title over an optional fairing.

>>15915295
>anything kicking in
>not a VFR800
>>
>>15915301
depends how much it is going to cost to repair the bike.
if the repair cost is more than the value of the bike it is totaled so older supersports can be written off like that yes.

idk why it is only dirt bikes that hold their value, they are all worth the parts they are made of which is why 10-15 year old bikes still sell for 3 grand

Not sure what you're implying here.

Masculinity is a completely arbitrary term, and mark my words, it'll move on from vehicles in the next century or two.
I do agree, however, that nothing done on this cancerous site will change that in any way.
Although I'm no fat cunt, I do breathe from my mouth sometimes. Didn't know that was a bad thing?

Also, I don't understand what platform you stand on when saying that me calling fun arbitrary is "not knowing what I'm talking about" or "giving advice."
I even openly claim to not have much knowledge on the subject of bikes, so I don't bring that into it.
The argument on hand had nothing to do with technical know-how, and I think you may just be upset because someone is posting an opinion that you don't agree with.

I mean literally too tiny. Ride a proper bike for two weeks and when you're back on the 250 it'll feel like it shrunk to a ridiculous size
>>
>>15915706
You don't need to go really fast to lean. Conefags kill their strips faster than most "canyon carvers" and "togue kings". Apply good technique and late turn-ins to your commute for maximum strip removal (and maximum falling down when you hit a patch of gravel)

the beginner bike meme is a scam. the average "TERRIBLE MURDEROUS SUPERSPORT" is a very tame bike below a certain throttle opening. it's meant to keep squids from killing themselves by being rossi.

you can buy a fucking GSXR and you'll be fine. if your throttle control is entirely too shit to survive you won't stay alive on a slower bike either.

Another lesson today,

God, I suck at the U-turn. You have to turn in a 3 meter radius. Slant the bike, push it down with your knees, keep your arms straight, move your weight over your shoulders to the outside, look over your shoulder and continu in a straight line after you make the turn.

Fuck it up everything. Looks dead easy too.
>>
>>15915728
>not even being remotely careful and deliberate

Yeah

Also it bears mentioning that your first road bike doesn't have to be the bike you learn basic skills on, if you really need to. A lot of people do dirtbikes and then take an MSF course. They're not the sort to exercise the throttle control and basic caution of a chimpanzee with parkinsons.

I've seen the same writing on the wall. M$ themselves have said as much. Their vision is for the OS to basically be a front-end that just runs your machine's basic functions and then shovels ads, crapware, microtransactions, etc. and will be subscription-based. Decide you don't want to pay $20 a month to use YOUR computer? Locked in a restrictive, Edge-only mode. Fuck that noise. Win10 is - as far as I can tell - the last somewhat real Windows OS. From here on out, a connection and subscription will be required to do anything, your activity will be monitored, logged, and monetized. You'll basically just be buying a ThinClient. We're in 1983. 1984 is less than 4 years away.

Only in the back for some reason. The zipper doesn't go all the way around to the front. Is there any negative aspect I'm not thinking of to one piece rain suits? Seems like the less seams, zippers, and otherwise exposed areas the better.

I really don't want to get rid of the Suburban, but shit I never drive it anyway unfortunately. I can't afford to keep it around unless something miraculous happens and my dad decides to give me a few thousand dollars, which I'd feel uncomfortable with anyway.

Support's getting better now, Wine has gotten exponentially better from what I've read over time, and Steam has a shitload of Linux-compatible vidya.

The ONE thing I like about Win10 is that it promises compatibility with XBone games. I don't know all the stipulations there, but that'd be neat to just play Forza on my computer with more powerful hardware and can pause, alt-tab, shitpost, then resume play without fooling with in input button or dial as I do now.

>>15915844
>Why did you buy two fucking vehicles, one of them being a fucking suv of all things, if you're a student?
I've only bought two vehicles in my life. One is the FZ-07 I own and love to death, the other was a US Marshals 2003 Crown Victoria Police Interceptor with low mileage back in 2009. All the four wheel vehicles I've ever owned have been trades stemming from that Crown Vic. I got the Suburban for trading my 1982 Camaro I built the engine in because there was no point in having a sporty car and a sporty bike with zero utility each.

How is a scooter ever safer

it's out-braked by a bike
it's out-accelerated by a bike
it's out-turned by a bike
it's out-seen by a bike
it's going to be less comfy than a well fitting bike
And there's a good chance the headlight is garbage

Everything that affects accident avoidance is worse until you surpass "scooter" and get what amounts to an ugly touring bike

also there's something about scooters that encourages people to skimp on safety gear, like sitting chair style is going to save them from getting road rash down to the bone.

Scooters only go up to 45 kmh, so that's definitely a factor to their safety.

Also, you can't possibly say a scooters riding position is less comfortable than that of any bike.

And lastly, a scooter can basically be parked anywhere because it takes a lot less space than a full size motorbike

No mate, scooters can reach high speeds. They're not any safer unless you're riding a BMW C1, in which case yeah you're probably a bit safer.

and a severely speed-limited vehicle is inherently unsafe. Speed will determine accident severity regardless of safety gear, but a lack of available power hurts accident avoidance. you need to be able to go an unscientific figure of 10mph faster than the top speed of traffic in a small handful of seconds, and slow much faster. what are you going to ride, a bike with high-end brakes, ABS, and tandem braking, or a crappy scooter with a "slow down" lever?

>traffic
I don't think you know the meaning of the word.
In the city or in a short, medium distance commute scooters are king. None of the points you made are true or valid, it's obvious you've never ridden one.
I'll take one just as an example. From my experience, if you're in traffic on a two wheeled vehicle you don't want to accelerate, you want to carefully filter through, doesn't really matter where and always be wary of your sorroundings. Acceleration is almost worthless when commuting and will get you or a stupid pedestrian killed or injured on a fucking scooter, let alone a bike.
Watching webms of you and videos of people filtering made me realize that, while you might have the riding experience I don't have, you're babbies in traffic management, it's obvious you can't predict at all.

Look, I prefer motorcycles, I don't give a shit about scooters, but your idea, and that of any american for what it's worth, of scooters is so distorted it's funny.

That works when people drive diesel fiats and twingos instead of camaros and honda pilots and are accustomed to two wheeled vehicles. It works really well. But if it's not the case, hop on a bike and accelerate until you're in a dead zone where you're the only moving vehicle. Someone WILL change lanes into you.

As said, not allowed. You get me wrong though, it isn't at a walking pace. Sorry I wasn't being clear.

Effectively you're supposed to be doing this. Pushing the bike down and counter leaning. Apparently that's the only way to make this turn in such a small radius.

Everyone does this and it's pretty safe because we ride giant neon colored motorcycles instead of tiny dingy scooters. We're out of the way before anyone can think of changing lanes. Don't ride at scooter pace and you don't get scooter flattened.

And although drivers can be ignorant, they have good signal discipline. Except for BMW/audi/miata fags and old cunts. Stay away from them. if you see a balding head through that window just stay away.

>real traffic
Sounds like an uncontrolled chaotic shithole not originally designed for individual motorized transports beyond the capability of the average scooter, not "real traffic". It's 1920s traffic. Don't forget your waistcoat when you go out on your motorized velocipede, guvna.

See the problem with scooters is best demonstrated with a simple example:
So I have the need for a fun bike, and I can afford an SV650, that's a fine bike but a bit impractical. So I look for a scooter instead. I'll be fucked if I'm to ride a 200cc scooter if I can ride a 650 so I have to go at least 400 (I'll be fucked with 400 too but bear with me on this)
The Bergman 400 cost exactly the same as a v strom 650, that is 1000 euros more than my SV. do you have a clue how much darkness you can put on a bike for 1000 euros? Certainly enough for a windscreen, bags, topcase, a reupholstered seat and then you have a bike as comfy as a scooter, except customized and NOT A FUCKING 400 CC SCOOTER

That's our motogymkhana practice 8, we're not slipping the clutch and your aim is speed and consistency.

I can clear the MOST u-turn by over a meter so I could do the MSF box with no clutch slipping I'm sure but just saying we don't have the box style thing nor did I ever try the box without much low speed experience.

I'd say like 95% of riders are better at left turns than right turns, it's why speedway goes left. It's normal, it's also why 8s are a great practice activity, equal weighting to left and right.

When you start leaning off the bike you'll probably find your body position will be better on left handers than right handers too, it's just normal and something you gotta work on as a rider.

>>15916439
tightness wasn't the problem, habeeb it or not throttle control was your problem.

The #1 advice I give people who are struggling with the u-turn or tightness like this is to first retrain your brain to save falls without taking a foot off the peg.

You feel the bike dropping down, so your natural instinct is to the let go of the throttle/clutch in and put your foot down to stop the falling but this is a bad instinct. What you want to do, is have a nice comfortable clutch slip / high idle on the throttle (with a bit of rear brake slipping just to take the edge off) and when you feel the bike dropping, just let out a little bit of clutch (or let off a bit of rear brake) and the extra torque to the rear wheel will pick the bike up and "save" your drop with no dramas.

The best way to practice this is to find a nice empty car park, pretend your feet are superglued to the pegs and start doing donuts as tight as you can, just over and over, around and around. When you feel like the bike is gonna drop, focus on just adding a little bit more torque to the rear wheel, you probably won't get it right the first few times and will still need to take a foot off, but keep at it.

If you do this for 15 minutes a night, within a week you will have retrained your reflex from "take a foot off" to "feed in some more power" and it'll be 2nd nature to you, a drop will be practically impossible now.

I usually say to put the bike on lock because I'm usually giving this advice to people on bikes with clip ons to get comfortable turning on the stops but lock will be VERY tight on your bike.
>>
>>15916488
The donuts sound like a great idea. I'm feathering the clutch and using the throttle since I don't have enough cc's to keep it from stalling at idle. You can hear me gas it when I start to lose it in that webm but I guess I was too slow or soft on letting the clutch out. I need to work on the coordination of the two.

I'll try the donuts practice anyway. Maybe save it until after I get my yearly inspection done though... hopefully the shifter can be bent back out.

Bikes usually can't brake as deep and don't carry the cornerspeed of cars with downforce (though similar to cars without downforce) but usually have superior power to weight. On power tracks like the TG test track this will make bikes do well even if they're losing out on certain bends or braking zones.

End of the day though? who cares. It's funner and more rewarding on the bike, that's what I'm gonna pick, races and track days are segregated anyway. Couldn't care what's faster, bikes are where it's at.

I heavily prefer left handers. I can manage the same rough lean angle on both, but the left turns always feel a lot more planted and stable whereas my rights don't always feel spot on.

Positioning your hand further towards the end of the bar and dropping your elbow might help. Same deal with putting your weight into your left knee against the tank - takes pressure off the bar and gives you that feeling of stability you need to really tip in.

I prefer left handers, and the main reason why is I can keep my foot over the rear brake without the constant urge to stick it out on the road. I remember as a kid being on my old XR100 and always being able to throw the back end out on left turns but being scared of right-handers.
