theres a small hole in the slide adjacent to the needle well, if you drill a second hole on the other side to match you get a faster throttle response.
youll need a smaller bit than the kit came with.
if you do the vent go super light, the plastic is a glass-nylon and it flakes if you drill too hard, not a problem just looks ugly

Second bike I've owned.

(0) Rode a Nighthawk 250 for the MSF Class.
(1) Bought an 84' Nighthawk 650 for my first bike.
(2) 14' Bolt has been a great second bike. Learned I love v-twins and will probably stick with cruisers.
(3) Already want something bigger though. Bolt is great everywhere but on the freeway over 60mph. Too vibey. Gotta find something to hold me over until I buy my dad's 09' Road King or win the lottery and buy my dream bike (pic related).

coat all the screws and orings in motor oil when you get it apart to help it go together good and not seize up later on. itll smoke and stink when it first fires up.
and pull the pilot jet and choke out and blow out all the passages while you have it out.
if your airscrew is loose like mine is put a dab of silicone sealer or blue locktight on the tail end of the threads so it wont move on its own

A much better way to rebuild carbs is use a light dab of anti-seize on threads, and a light wipe of vaseline on O-rings. Neither drools or attracts dust. Anti-seize (a jar lasts most people a few years) is available at any auto parts store.

Anti-seize any fastener you don't Loctite. (I never Loctite carb parts, too small.) Dry threads are the devil. I've taken apart fasteners I anti-seized thirty years ago with no problem.

Silvery brush-on like Permatex or generic. If you score some nickle or copper marine anti-seize that's even better.

Milk of magnesia works are was used in jet engine hot sections.

I always anti-seize exhaust bolts and hardware, and I use clear RTV to seal pipe/head joints (wipe some on the gasket) and downpipe/silencer slip joints if the pipe is on something where staining matters.

Are your carb spigots snugly in their happy and supple rubber boots? All vacuum lines happy and supple?

Take your time. Learning carb-fu is fiddly but eventually you will be high-test and potent, able to field-strip your baiku in a rainstorm under artillery fire with a dull Leatherman.

Kinda smeary but it does work. I grab whatever jar is closer and have da nickel and copper too.

I've done thousands of fasteners including all the bolts on my steel building twice (I tore it down and moved it) with the silver herpes and only had to clip three or four fasteners which I'd probably crossthreaded during assembly.

Oh wow, I have done the same route but it wasn't nearly that lush! It was kind of at the tail end of the monsoon season and Timberon and South didn't get much rain. If you go further on 506 eventually parts of the "road" are just gravel washes like you see in Afghanistan.

Parts of E001 you just ride up the riverbed/wash which I was worried would be impassable since they have been getting rain like crazy in the mountains this year. It was mostly dry but fuck those river rocks with street tires. My backup plan if it was washed out was just to ride up 506 to Pinon and back to 54.

Are there any bikes that are significantly faster than a ZX10R/R1/GSXR1000? The reason I ask is because I currently ride a 600 and when I first rode it, I was scared but that feeling dwindled quickly. I want to be scared again but I don't know if these traditional liter bike are going to be enough, so I am considering something faster like a Hayabusa/ZX14R/S1000RR. My concern with these is the massive size of them kind of diminishes the returns on the higher displacement and it ends up not being that significant of an upgrade

What do you guys think?

I would have but the bolt sat pretty deep in the slider. Either way, it's in there pretty good and tight now and didnt take too much force to get in the last time

Quick question: Was there any threadlocker residue on the bolt when you took it out? That would explain the resistance. If the bolt is set deeply into the slider, I kind of doubt crossthreading would be all that easy to do.

thanks for the peace of mind man, I thought I fucked up my new bike :(. Hypothetically speaking, if it is cross threaded but the bolt is all the way in, what sort of problems can I run in to?
>>
I don't have an oil pan but want to change my oil.
What should I use?
>>
>>15677245
Anything that will fit under the bike and be able to contain all the oil.
>>
>Finally got my GS550E running this weekend after figuring out it kept blowing the main fuse because of the shitty eBay rectifier I bought.

FEELS GOOD, MAN.

I even did my first reserve tank petcock changeover... while going 60 in the dark on the highway. That was also a satisfying experience.

Well fuck you too.

If it is cross threaded it will be near impossible to get out without drilling/tapping the bolt then you will need to re tap the hole and just use a slightly larger thread size on the new hole.
If it is not cross threaded you will be able to turn the bolt and it will come out.
Seriously you would need at least 15nm of force just to turn a cross threaded frame bolt.

I use the tray thing out of my fridge, i don't eat vegetables so its not like i need it.
>>
>>15677271
This, or just cut a hole in the side then you can still use the opening to pout it into a sealable container.
>>
>>15677021
That's why you buy a dual sport and then go trail riding, that way when you drop it, it isn't really a big deal.

It was nice knowing you anon

rip resale value as soon as you sign on it
>>
>>15677275
The fuck is wrong with you, pay like $15 at harbour freight for an oil pan.

Also, eat vegetables, they're good for you.
>>
>>15677255
Things I've used to change my oil. Milk jug sliced in half. Milk jugs sliced in half lengthwise. Stolen dish tray. Stolen cat litter box. Cardboard box with trash can liner. You get the picture.
>>
For those of you using milk jugs...what do you do with the oil after?
>>
>>15677310
take it to autozone or oreillys and dump it
>>
>>15677310
I usually just pour it into the left over oil bottle from the new oil, then throw it in the trash.

Yes i'm evil.
>>
>>15677313
keep a little bit around for when you get your hands super grimy from working on brakes or under your car. the detergents in the oil do a great job of lifting the crap off your skin
>>
>>15677300
or just steal the oil pan out of my fridge, the fucks wrong with you?
>>
>>15677235
I can honestly say I don't think I've ever seen one of these in person

if you have concrete walkways or patio, pour it in the gaps and cracks to keep shit from growing through them and keep the moles away
>>
>>15677310
Depending on your area, you can leave it in a sealed milk jug on the curb next to the trash for the garbage/recycling guys and they'll take it.
>>
>>15677345
>keep the moles away
TFW not even a moll wants me

>tfw theyve undermined most of my patio and driveway.

>>15677359

i gave up on gloves since i shred them within 5 min anyway

Well. This Monday got interesting. There wasn't a cop car, just FD and an ambulance; my neighbors are in their upper 40s so I really wonder what happened.

So my fairings are cracked and the tab is broken off. The crack runs from where the tab was down.

Tab is still snapped onto the bike so.
Gonna snap it out, apply ABS cement to every part that should be connected, duct tape it all together on the outside, then tomorrow take the tape off (cement should have..cemented by now), then duct tape the inside.

Will this work?
>>
>>15677394
Should be fine. Just have to wait and see m80.

It sat for a year or two before the PO got it and who knows beforr that. It only has 13k but it probably needs rings and valve guides/ seals. Also fixed one leak and another gets worse. I don't mind feeding it oil but rubber is probably all dried out and the engine is dirty af so.. once I get another ride I'm gonna rebuild the head, do the rings and reseal it all.
