nope. Got my green Ps (thanks NSW!) about 6 months ago so another year and a half of SV-dom to go.

Then I'm just gonna replace it with a beater litre (until I stack it).

The kicker is that I actually got a motorcycle license when I was 18 (or 17) back in tasmania but very stupidly let it lapse because I had no bike and was worried about passing the MOST test with no practice (in retrospect, it would have been a piece of piss on those CB125Es)

>>15466490
MT-07 is 100% restricted, it has a different displacement to a normal MT in the first place.

and there are plenty that don't, the SZR660 is a good example, all the 650 cruisers etc. (excluding the obvious dirt shitbikes).

I believe the NTV650 doesn't either.

the striple can be mostly derestricted, but not to the 100 hp of the full beans item, more like 80 ish.

I've dragged a derestricted lams striple on the SV and it juuuust edged away, with that being said he probably weighed a bit less than me too.

How much worse would an older base model street triple be over an sv650/fz07/etc?

I realize more power is an argument, but it comes on similarly to the commonly suggested 650~ish twins with more top end. Are the basic striple brakes and suspension that much more unforgiving? They even come in restricted models for EU/Aus licensing requirements while retaining the basic model brakes and suspension
>>
>>15466505
the way I've heard it explained is almost all dirtbikes come really plugged up which most dealers basically undo immediately, it's how they pass emissions despite being as hi tech as a boomerang for the most part.

So the actual manufacturer reported power figures that come up with you look up the VIN code are really, really low IIRC. I swear I've looked into this before and they reckon 450s and other shit are making 30 hp or something.

>>15466535
That makes sense but, why the fuck cant the 250cc 2 stroke sport bikes of the 90's be lams then. Surely they're similar power to weight

>>15466539
Original fairings. They show their wear but still in relatively good condition for a 22 year old bike
>>
>>15466505
Because the government can't realistically tell people they need to ride a 125cc enduro bike in Australias bush when 14 year olds are racing 450cc mx bikes that make more power.
Basically the government actually recognized that there is a huge off road riding community they would be putting unreasonable restrictions on.

its just a loop hole that you can ride them on the road with the lams laws, won't be surprised if they are taken off the LAMS list once all the states adopt recreation registration.

SV owner, unashamed fanboy and man who has ridden 2-3 MT-07s every now and then, no fucking doubt about it a striple is just a better bike than both, no beating around the bush here it'll just rape either in terms of satisfaction of ownership for the most part.

There's no such thing as better suspension being more unforgiving, the opposite is true, the striple will deal with bumps better, you get less unsettled over bumpy corners, you can just focus on riding more.

I don't feel like the sensitive brakes thing is much of an argument either, just use less fingers.

>>15466542
Basically the way they set the rules up is all 250 bikes (and under) no matter what are LAMS legal....but they then made specific exceptions for the RGVs, Kr-1s, NSR250s, RS250s etc.

Which..I mean... look at the way the learners treat MC22s, you really want to banish all the qt RGVs to the same fate?

... because it's too powerful?

The 650's make life 70hp tops, the Street Triple has an entire Ninja 250's worth of power on top of that, probably more.

What's so wrong with getting a conventional learner bike, riding it for a year and then selling it for a Street Triple? FZ6, FZ1, Street / Speed Triple R, some kind of smallish sport touring bike (if such a thing actually exists)?

I want something fairly light that's comfortable enough to lay down a lot of highway miles and nimble enough to still attack the mountain twisties. I've done over 650 miles in a day on my DR650 but it wasn't very fun for myself or the bike (75mph speed limits for hours on end isn't really what that bike was designed for).

So I want to learn how to do my own matinence on my bike. Figured a simple oil and filter change would be the obvious place to start. Problem is, I tried to figure out how to get the fairing off (So I can reasonably get to the filter), and I've already run into problems. Biggest one is this stripped bolt. Tried to get it out myself, and it's circular now. Took it to a family friend, and he tried this thing that looks like it's supposed to grip the outside of the bolt, and that didn't work either. Any tips on how to get this damn bolt off, or am I stuck needing to get someone to remove and replace it?

So, I'm potentially looking to go to a race track in Europe at some point. I've never been to a race track before, so I have some questions mainly regarding cost.

I understand I need appropriate gear which I should have by then (full leathers obviously).
Obviously the track entry fee is going to set me back quite a bit as well, depending on whether I attend a beginner track weekend or something.

Mostly I want to know the following:
> Can I use regular street tires on a track (Bridgestone BT-45)?
> Should I get brand-new tires for the track, use ones that have been scrubbed in or does it not matter as long as they're not going to go bald?
> If I should use tires I don't want to use for commuting: Do I need to / can I bring my own or do I have to buy them at the track? Do events typically include tires? (I doubt it but you never know unless you ask)
> Do I have to buy fuel at the track or can I bring my own? How expensive is it usually compared to regular fuel prices in the same area?
> How much time do I have at the track to prepare the bike for the track? Is it feasible to ride there on a road-legal bike set up for commuting, take off the luggage rack, mirrors, indicators, fairings etc. or should I prepare everything at home and tow it to the track?
> Do you usually have to do all your bike prep and maintenance yourself or do events include mechanics? Do you tip them?

There are several ways you could go about getting it off but I would personally grind the head off using a dremel or something similar just to get the fairing off and then use pliers / vice grips on the shaft of the bolt to remove it, it would probably help to grind a couple of flat spots on the shaft first so the pliers can grip it better.

That's because you're a retard.
The 821 is 2 seconds faster in a top gear roll-on from 50-100kph.
It's also faster from 100-150kph, 0-100kph, 0-150kph and 0-200kph.
Revs are entirely relative and as you can see from the attached picture, the torque curves are very similar in shape, any difference in absolute torque is compensated for by gearing (both have a 220kph top speed and the 821 is more powerful).
I know you're going to call me a benchracer and I admit the 821 is kinda peaky thanks to emissions bullshit but it is definitely not slower, that is just your flawed perception.

It's safer to steer clear of I4 supersports until you're more experienced. What kind of riding are you looking to do? I know it's hammered into the ground here, but dual sports are pretty great to start on.

Are you mechanically inclined? Do you wrench on your car as it is? If not, steer clear of older stuff. Nothing will make you hate riding more if your bike is always broken. Get something reliable to learn on and later on get a project bike.
