Hi /dbt/ my bike has a problem and I have no idea what causes it
relevant info on bike: 4stroke single cyl, carbed, no fuel pump
Issue: stuttering/ missing ignitions at a certain rpm range (6-8k)
It feels like running into the rev limiter but it happens way before the red zone. It just started happening one day, the bike wasn't sitting for a week or anything
What I've tried so far:
new sidestand relay (supposedly an old one with a bad contact can cause this issue)
Cleaned carb
new spark plug (the old one seemed fine, but why not try it)
adjusted carb (spark plug is anice reddish brown)
Seafoam

When you get a chance check resistances on plugs and coils.
What does your plug look like? Does it stutter or just cut off completely?
Does the bike have a regulator/rectifier?

I've got a mosquito bite on the sole of my foot.
I can't stop thinking about how lonely I feel,

I really miss my grandpa, he would have know what to do right now.
I don't feel at home anymore, I haven't even spoke to my father in two years.

>>15423084
Plug is fine then.
Test your rectifier. If that's all good then you have a loose connection somewhere. When your bike hits that RPM range it hits a resonance frequency and vibrates the connector off, causing it to lose ignition. Check every single plug in your ignition system and make sure they're tighter than a toddler's cunt.

How do we get onto that /dbt/ map?
Hey /dbt/,
Stayed up till 2am last night riding around and catching pokemons. Got to see a few neat areas I town I never usually travel too, noticed a lot of other people playing too, and probably scared the shit out of a few normies with my random stops in residential neighborhoods.
Had a bicycle fag get mad at me for pulling up on the sidewalk at a pokestop. I wasn't even on his side of the street but he felt the need to scream that "what you're doing is illegal, brah!", then he ran through a red light.
>>15423388

... what size?
>>15423388
>>15423380
Dude that's probably intentional, a couple of my new bikes had that. I think it's to help you roll your hand forward to grab the brake.
>>15423380
There's usually an adjustment thing on the throttle pull cable. It's a very easy thing to do, I think it's described in the owner manual even for most Yamahas.
>>15423394
>I wasn't even on his side of the street but he felt the need to scream that "what you're doing is illegal, brah!", then he ran through a red light.

>I'm gonna steal your boots.

>... what size?

>>15422917
Where do I pick up my DBT sticker
>>15423380
There are usually adjusters near the throttle body & there should be some near the handlebars. Use the bar ones first before dicking with the ones near the motor.
Do you not have a service manual for your baiku? Do you not google?
>>15423383
See i was looking at indians. Im gonna test drive one of these bastards to see how well it responds. Im thinking it might be slower than id like but if its as comfy as it looks for us talking fridges then i might consider.
>springfields
I have no memory of this place
>>15423417
Damnit, a size too small.
Your boots are safe.
>>15423408
It'd make sense if it sprung back to a centered resting point. As is that whole wiggly area is a dead zone for the throttle and it makes throttle response from a stop rather irregular.
>>15423410
Thanks I'll have a look after class tonight.

>>15423333
yeah, more TT600 for you
>>15423452
I must not be explaining this very well. The wiggly zone here >>15423380 provides no throttle input. It's wiggly like that when the throttle tube is at idle, creating a fairly large dead zone with no spring tension or throttle input whatsoever. It's just dead slack. This is particularly annoying when at a stop and you twist your throttle X% from muscle memory, but it either gives it too much gas or not as much as you wanted due to the starting position of the throttle tube always being in a random spot.
>>15423463
I kek every time.

That seat makes my dick diamonds. I wish I could cum on it
>>15423454
only had it for about 4 month. Bought it cheap (1200€), put new rear brake pads and disk on it, new tires, new chain, new sprockets, new rectifier, new bulb, new handlebar, changed all fluids, powder coated many small parts and sold it about 4 month and 150km for 1400€
I dont even want to think about the money I lost. But anyway. Was a fun bike, but not exactly was I thought it would be. Also got a very very good deal on a car and so the bandit got changed for a Mazda

Immigration from outside the EU was always 100% under control (or rather, lack thereof due to incompetence) of the UK government. The EU has fuck-all to do with that. We're not part of Schengen, any failure to check passports at borders is 100% a local fuckup.
EU immigrants under the Free Movement of Peoples make a net contribution to the economy, and public services specifically. If they were to be 'thrown out' (which even the nuttiest of the Eave campaign didn't propose) then not onyl would public services by worse off in terms of funding from taxes, they would lose the majority of staff who successive governments have failed to put funding into training domestically (a massive problem with the NHS, among all-round massive underfunding).

Other end. It's the 300R. I'd really like to do the adjustment myself, but I can't even find the service manual for sale online. Not even the shim diameter. Would really rather not pay the dealership $200 for work I can do myself for whatever two shims costs.

I gotcha senpai. It was a bitch to find. You can buy the -exact- one for the 300R off of Helm Inc's website but the 250 is the same engine with a different stroke, so valve clearances should be the same.

I'd agree but comparable cheaper options (new obviously, we're not going to get into new vs old value semantics or purchasing any bike that's not a 2001 gsx-r1000 looks silly) are often mega dodgy.
The owner of this braaap 190 (20+ hp, 75kg) ended out selling it but keeping his grom and I know why, the thing was just dodgy, too fast for what it was (so twitchy, needed 14's and a longer swingarm)

>same engine with a different stroke, so valve clearances should be the same
I had read that, but is that really the only difference between the 250 and 300? Is it just a different conrod? I'll check with these clearances either way. Something gives me the feeling that the clearances are probably fine, but the owner's manual says to check them pretty soon. I especially don't want to pay the dealership to stick a feeler gauge into my wallet and go "yup".
>>15424489
Yeah, looked it up. Not much in the way of cheap mods (rejet, removing airbox snorkel or getting one off a KDX200 if you want to keep it, and removing smog crap that doesn't hurt performance apparently).
I could also add a KLX300 exhaust off eBay for somewhat cheap ($185 used FMF Powercore + $60 stock KLX300 header, larger diameter with no issues bolting on), but like I said. Would just make my bike go from 20-21whp (rejet + airbox, stock is 18-20whp) to 22-23whp (full exhaust + previous mods)
I think I'll just do the rejet, remove the airbox snorkel, and take the $250 I would've spent on saving for a faster bike.

I have an Italian special snowflake bike from a non-popular model year. Finding parts is harder than finding that manual was.
>Conrod
You don't change stroke with a conrod. It's a different crank. The mount point for the conrods are further from the rotational center of the crank, which gives them more leverage. This also means it takes more time for the piston and conrod to go through a full revolution, which in turn lowers maximum rpm because slower rotating mass.

>>15424926
I think I understand. So a crank with a conrod mount further from the axis *both* increases stroke (and displacement) and decreases maximum rev range.
Is rev range only determined by the ratio of bore to stroke? I imagine it's not so simple. I'm still pretty new at this but I'm trying to understand and it seems pretty intuitive.

>>15424963
>Is rev range only determined by the ratio of bore to stroke?
It's determined by a number of things. Valve float can happen at extreme rpms from the valvesprings not being stiff enough to pull the valve up faster than the piston moves up, the conrods can bend or the crank can flex from too much centrifugal force, etc. That's why when you drop 2lbs off your wheels the bike feels a million times more agile. While it's only 2lbs of static weight, it's much, MUCH more in terms of gyroscopic inertia.
>That's fucking hot though.
The undertail right there with the cat right by my foot never fails to toast my buns after about 30 mins.

So you could theoretically increase your maximum rev range with some lighter/stronger parts? Without modifying existing engine geometry?
So if I got a lighter rear wheel (or even a lighter tire), stiffer valve springs, thicker conrods, a different crank, I might gain another 1000 revs?
Just a thought exercise.
Riding a 300, I think it's hard for me to understand how hot bigger bikes can get.

>So you could theoretically increase your maximum rev range with some lighter/stronger parts? Without modifying existing engine geometry?
That is exactly what you can do, and that's how most people do it. Then you just modify the ECU so your ignition cuts at 15,000RPM instead of 14,000RPM and so on.
Obviously this is oversimplified and a lot more work goes into it, but yes. You can do all of the above. The wheel itself won't do anything to increase engine output though, just better handling due to less unsprung weight (Wheel can come down faster off of bumps increasing the amount of time rubber is in contact with the road) and less gyroscopic resistance when leaning the bike over.
>Riding a 300, I think it's hard for me to understand how hot bigger bikes can get.
My bike runs hot even by literbike standards. In-traffic temps on a 30 degree night ran up to 220*F for me. I ended up saying fuck it after I started sweating and ended up lanesplitting illegally past the entire city of Chicago until I got back to the highway.
