Bring us your humble, your meek, your huddled masses of shitboxes, yearning to be free. Whether ye be poor, or an aristocrat on high, welcome here ye be.

The main event is happening on the 15th of July, but there are two things to be decided, the time(Day or Night) and which route to take to Livingston, since the circuit is very large we will do a sprint instead. Some of you are concerned about the distance, but it's pretty much the same going from Dave & Busters to 149.

THE NEWS:

- Thanks to GTIGuy we will now bring at least one chair with us.

- Two T-Shirt designs are out, if bought in bulk will cost $15 a piece, see post >>15385795 → → → >>15387420 → → → >>15387914 → → →

- Turbo Snail mentioned a large a Galveston Cruise happening, perhaps by then we will get everything we need to represent ourselves. Details in post >>15393671 → →

- Name suggestions are still open but many seem to like NIGHT WAVE or a certain variation of it.

- /hou/ seems to be at one place at the same time >>15400552>>15400522

- Many activities are being discussed right now which are outside of /o/ such as gun ranges, paintball and laser tag.

- E30 is off to spread the good word across the west coast.

i'll be there with some peoples
>>
>>15413699
I'd never pay that much for a car that has all the trademarks of having been riced and beaten to death. It says 17k miles, but I'm sure it's over 170k. There's also damage over the driver's rear wheel.

That's about a $3k car at most.
>>
>>15413749
When are you going to bring the DeLorean to a meet, Chad?
>>
>>15413783
When I get the clutch situation fixed, go through the brakes, and get 4 new tires for it.

Probably next month.

I also want to install front coilovers, an upper sway bar, lower control arm outriggers, adjustable rear links, and a better exhaust in that time.
>>
>>15413749
>this guy gets it

Why would anyone in their right mind pay 7k for that, especially since they have a reputation of being riced. It says "Highway Miles", kek that 2jz runs high rpms on the highway. There is NO WAY it's 17k. If someone is really desperate for a manual IS300, then just do a damn swap, it's pretty straightforward on these vehicles. No custom work to be done for that.
>>
>>15413813
Those assclowns on the everythingbutHistory Channel really did a shitty job if you've already got to get a new clutch, brakes, and tires just over a year later.
>>
>>15413741
Sorry anon, I wish I could make it but I if I go I won't be able to shitpost on this thread while I'm on my toilet seat. Maybe next time, hope you have fun.
>>
>>15413831
I "converted" it to a 5-speed; in the process, the engine lost 26k miles and the car seems to look like it hasn't been touched in 20 years. Though, trading cars or selling it would violate the terms of having them "restore" my car.
>>
>>15413870

So I picked up a radar detector today also
>>
>>15413875
No idea. Still, I did agree that I wouldn't sell the car and that I would retain the title for 10 years. What I've currently done is a lot like a wish from a genie; technically within the rules, but clearly not what they intended. It's remarkably easy to change VINs on a DeLorean, by the way. 4 pop rivets and they're swapped.
>>
>>15413964
So much for "I've never loved anything more in my life"
>>
>>15413968
I got a $25,000.00 car for free AND my pants stayed on; I'd have said just about anything.

If anyone actually wants to hear the behind-the-scenes details, I'll tell them at the next event. Suffice it to say, a lot of filming was done after the fact to try to weave a better story.

So I've been doing some thinking, and I've discovered an issue that I hadn't considered before in the modelling of the Waseinburgerring. According to this site I found (and I haven't verified this using my own maths, but I trust theirs for now), due to the immense size of the track, and considering the curvature of the earth at the widest point of the track (The center of Montgomery to the center of Navasota), the difference in elevation using the same referenced location is as much as 363 feet(!!!). Luckily, my reference point is not constant, but it isn't always updating and it is not updated every mile (or else I would never finish). This means that the accuracy of the topology data can be off by as much as 77(!!!!!!!!) feet at my longest segment. I am assuming that the program I am using is compensating for this discrepancy because it doesn't look all retarded, but it also means that the topology data cant be trusted.

However, it CAN give me a general idea about the shape of the road. So I will be trusting all of your judgements to help create accurately what it should feel like when driving in game.

Think about it this way, if the earth was a sphere then the airline pilots would have to push the nose down in order to stay aligned with the earth, but no they don't do that. They don't dive the stick, instead they always stay at a leveled plane which proves us that the earth is in fact flat.

Basically, in short, we wont get true accurate elevation, camber, width, etc. without a laser scanned version of the track, and I can't afford LIDAR equipment so we are completely reliant on feel and estimations.

I can't make it to work and back without it overheating or having some sort of transmission (?) problem, maybe also caused by overheating. Got a new radiator and fan coming in though, so as soon as I can replace the old (It's way too small, the guy I bought the thing from replaced the stock one for some reason with one that's about half the size it needs to be.), I'm hoping more of my problems go away.

Crossing my fingers there's nothing else wrong with it, would hate to show up only to get towed home.

It is. But that's really the issue with the whole vehicle -- it's listed as a '79, but a lot of the parts are from various other TAs I think.

The problem with that is my knowledge of vehicles, by and large, ends in the mid 1980s.

Now, if we had a show where the goal was to pick three cars of different classes and have them compete in a challenge where the cars excelled when new, that might be interesting. It'd be similar to the Top Gear challenges, but the goal would be to show off the practicality of the cars, not to destroy them; something along the lines of these:

>Who can replace the brakes for the least amount of money.

>Who has the lowest commuting costs.

>What's the best feature of the car.

On that note; here's a summary: three individuals with wildly differing taste in cars have $5,000.00 to select a car, get it ready for a road trip, and get to a track where we take it out for a lap and demonstrate why it was a good choice.

However, all this shitflinging about the meet time aside, we DO need to set down in concrete the route of the run now days in advance. That way everyone has time to learn it, *and* can print out physical copies of the map. We can also set pre-planned rally points for when the groups gets spread out.
>>
>>15425539
Well strawpolls are pointless in the end, many people don't even know what they want t-bh. The 149 was talked about thoroughly weeks before it happening. Nobody was suggesting any other routes, so it was assumed that 149 will be the right one. So the same case goes now, it was assumed that meet will happen at 8P.M just like meet 2 and meet 3.

Nothing else to address other than,

Meet is on Friday 8P.M, @Dave & Busters on I-10 and Silber.

Considering the title was by someone who was uncontactable in California (Which at least made partial sense, Olds 403 engines were used in Cali) and being sold on his behalf, and there was a request for cash which was about a third of the price compared to everyone else selling a similar vehicle, and for me to register the title myself (Which went off without a problem thankfully), and the fact that there's a tiny two core radiator that's way too small, a "rebuilt" engine, and a wiring job that I'm still trying to figure out, it makes pretty good sense. I took the seller's info and got a background check on him, came back clean though.

Still better than a 2002 vette I went to go look at in Kyle a couple years ago, which actually did come back stolen. At least this one passed cursory inspection of legal status.

>>15428431
>implying any of us know the area

We're all just literally using GoogleMaps to find twisty roads.

There IS another Livingston Circuit out there. I know there is because Dagumi crashed his Civic while checking it out, and it wasn't anywhere near as long as this new one.
>>
>>15428455
Just doing a sprint, no circuits.
>>
>>15428455
So thats what we are going to do? Pull up maps and follow the twistiest route possible? Ill give maps that... It works even with a hilariously low amount of bandwidth (boost mobile phone roaming). But anyway the idea i was trying to communicate was " who actually knows that area well enough to ignore the predrawn livingston route, thinking they can find a more fun way through that shitty, rainy area
>>
>>15428591
and when was this decided, since the admission was that the circuit takes much less than 3 hours at a decent pacing

>>15424792

Im not making a 2 hour drive with no concrete plan.
>>
>>15428629
I doubt many people want to go for a really long run, 149 seemed just the right amount of time for a run.
>>
>>15428670
RIP Crosstour.
>>
>>15428603
No, GS400. I'm saying that the people who "know the area" just did that on GoogleMaps from the comfort of their homes, not that we freestyle it during the meet. That's not only stupid, it's dangerous.
>>
>>15428726
well desu most of us did that on the 149 run, I think Dagumi and GS were the only ones who knew the run.
>>
I-10 to California run when?
>>
>>15428808
First one to catch up to E30 wins.
>>
Well dont you think we should have a crew member make a short course map, just like last meet, so we all have a jpg map we can reference from? And then possibly we can all do some research so we arent going in raw?
>>
>>15428845
>>15427502
Working on it.

Joke route aside (its a really bad route and will get very boring in between montgomery and livingston, plus you will edge/blue ball on each road rather than hitting one of them hard

Interested in this

Alright, still working on more detailed maps, but I've got the first overlay of routes discussed at the mini meet.

I know we're not talking about these, and I'm not trying to change any plans, yadda yadda, but I was planning on making this anyway, so.

What's wrong with Jasper? (Honestly don't know.)

Zavalla has its own article about speed traps.

It's deep DEEP East Texas. The kind where they'll shoot you for not being from around there. Corrupt police, dangerous hicks. They would not tolerate boyracers going through town.
>>
>>15429167
>>15429114
Don't forget, Jasper's where they dragged a man to death behind a truck on a gravel road in the 90s. The kind of people who did that still make up the population of the town.

I wouldn't go to Jasper even if you paid me to do so. I sure as shit am not taking my car through there on a run.

>Before his execution Brewer ordered a large meal that included two chicken fried steaks, a triple-meat bacon cheeseburger, a large bowl of fried okra, a pound of barbecue, three fajitas, a meat lover's pizza, a pint of ice cream, and a slab of peanut butter fudge with lots of crushed peanuts. However he did not eat any of it and the meal was discarded, prompting Texas prison officials to end the 87-year-old tradition[24] of giving special last meals to condemned inmates.

Even in death he's still a massive faggot.
>>
>>15429272
Well at least we know we won't be going to Jasper anytime.

Literally as the bump limit is reached, but god damn it. Some route variations, just so people can get an idea. I'm open to whatever people can find, this was just a quick search.
