I like to wear my off-road pants because they vent really well, but they don't have pockets or anything. I'm thinking about getting one of these https://www.rockymountainatvmc.com/p/1008/45355/Moose-Racing-Removable-Rear-Fender-Pack-?term=fender+pack to hold my shit but I'm reluctant to spend that much money.

Direct Access Scheme. After age 24, you don't need to faff with progressive licensing and can go straight from CBT (125 only) to unrestricted.
>>15301618
£30k pre tax to ~£21 pre-tax for JET. As far as I can tell, I'd be liable for UK tax for the first year, then Jap tax (which is Who The Fuck Knows) for a second and any subsequent years).

Is there some actually working method to add capacitive touch capability to waterproof gloves? I've got a pair of Dainese Ergotours, and so far I've tried 'Anyglove' (a conductive gel coating. Tried progressively more coats until I;d glopped most of the bottle onto one finger, no dice), Glovetacts (adhesive conductive stickers), and taking a pair of touch-enabled work gloves and cutting the fingertip off to slip over the glove fingertip. All without any success. With the severed glove finger, it works perfectly well when my bare hand is inside it, but not when over the glove. I suspect all of these assume some degree of conduction between the touch material and your hand inside the glove, and the Ergotours just appear to be too insulating.
About the only thin I can think of is to get a capacitive stylus and glue a magnet to it so I can stick it to the tank, and hope the wind doesn't blast it off.

I pulled some super fine copper wire out of an old headphone cord and stitched some through my glove's finger tip.

Just make sure to put it off to the side so it doesn't get irritating when you're working the throttle or brake.

I actually found this cbr250r for the chick I've been seeing the last couple months and she bought it Saturday night. But I've been cruising it around town for shits and giggles since she left it with me until she gets her permit tomorrow.

Thing is fun as hell to toss around. So light and just fun. Power wise I almost have fun with the fact that I'm full throttle everywhere I go. I cruised highway yesterday just to see how it was and it wasn't bad cruising at 70mph.

I've ridden a couple older 250's and 500 ninjas and this thing feels way better in comparison. The fuel injection probably helps a lot with that when it comes to throttle response and whatnot.

Anyway, just a fun bike. Though sounds like with your experience I'm not sure that you'd be happy with the power for an extended period of time. I'm sure if I rode it every day I'd get bored of how slow it is within a month or so.
>>
Going to ride to work for the first time tomorrow. Hopefully gas will last until the gas station that's mid-way, because I'm a retard and didn't fuel up last time.

Gotta learn how to ride in time for SEM. How did Bled get chosen anyway? Just for the nice lake or is there something interesting in the way of roads?

this

I bought http://www.motorcyclecloseouts.com/sport/mesh+motorcycle+jackets/shift_zzz+air+avenger+premium+mesh+jacket many years ago.

I'm not sure where you can still get it now. But it's super warm in the winter with the rain lining in. No air gets through the lining. With the lining out it's extremely cool, feels like I'm just in a t-shirt.

I've had it for 4 years now, it's probably time to get a new one. I've wrecked in it once at 25mph on pavement and didn't get hurt. Wrecked at 90-100mph on pavement once and slid off the road into gravel & grass. Very very light damage and didn't get anything other than some bruising. Has armor padding in all the right places.

So just a matter of finding a good mesh jacket, I was really happy with the air avenger. I still use it though I know I should replace it due to age and being involved in wrecks. I've also wrecked a lot in it offroad doing stupid stuff but have yet to really actually be hurt.

Any idea if the screw is slightly different on it ? or did they send me wrong mirror ?

>>
>>15302262
I'm sure there's better options now, just giving my personal feedback. Just make sure you find one that still has adequate armor in places like back/elbows/etc - basically the most prone sliding points. The mesh portions will still hold up better than a non-motorcycle jacket but not as well as a textile/leather.

Some of the really cheap mesh jackets are pretty much nothing but mesh with little to no kevlar/armor.

Pants yes. I honestly hate most motorcycle pants so I stick to kevlar jeans granted I get in a hurry too often and ride in regular jeans. I've yet to get any rash/damage to my legs and both my wrecks were in regular jeans. I wouldn't follow my example though. I have two pairs of kevlar jeans I put on whenever I know I'm going to be riding for an extended time.

Imo helmet, jacket, gloves, and riding shoes are the main important things. Minimum wear jeans, ideally wear riding specific pants.
>>
>>15302335

>>15302290
I'd actually be interested in more data on the efficacy of back protectors. I wear a semirigid protector (Dainese Manis) but the few studies I've found suggest that most spinal injuries are not impact related, but torsional (i.e. twisting, stretching) which no back protector that isn't also a rigid back brace will have an effect on.
The few studies I have found (albeit with small sample sizes, but I cannot find any larger studies) indicate that basic foam inserts do absolutely nothing to protect your back, and statistically seem to slightly increase risk of injury (likely an artefact of sample size).

For anything other than racing, that's probably about as much risk-reduction as is practical for everyday use. About the only thing missing is knee/shin protection, which you may find you want in case you drop your bike. For a new rider, you may find you 'ride the bike down' in your first off and end up partially under a large heavy lump of metal. Having some rigid leg protection helps reduce the potential for crushing injuries to your lower legs by distributing the load and supporting some of it.

True, but compared to London even Tokyo isn't that bad. And while it would be nice to be near Tokyo to weeb it up, I'd kind of like to be in the countryside to have good roads to ride, somewhere near a university: their hackerspaces make ours look like an embarrassment, and I want people to mess about with VR equipment with.
And it's not like there aren't good transport links if I suddenly get a burning desire for doujin or whatever.

Hi /o/. New to this board and new to motorcycles in general, but I have a pipe dream of taking a month or two off from school and work to see the country on a bike and was wondering what kind of bike would best fit me for that kind of thing. Not necessarily looking for one of those big touring specific bikes, since most of those are more powerful than I feel I'd be able to handle, but rather a smaller bike that can go the distance. Some people have recommended that I go with an older VFR, but those have pretty high engine displacement from what I looked up. Otherwise I've been pointed toward the KLR, which I'm currently leaning towards.

Any input would be appreciated.
>>
>>15302998
Does vic have the equivalent of Dalby moto trail rides? Like properly organised events?
>>
>>15303112
uh the klr is a 650 and starting on a 600 is nuts enough dude. i'd say go the 300 route, its a meme but you'll be safer

>>
>>15303112
VFRs are wonderful bikes, you'd really regret rekting one
KLRs are nowhere near as comfy, fast or good looking, but they're fairly indestructible
>>15303136
A 300 for touring is suicide
300 roadbikes rev way too high
300 off roaders are borderline racebikes

>Tl;dr the vfr400 exists and is fucken mint
>>
>>15303059
>Also, everyone uses a shitton of emoticons or smiles or whatever the fuck.
They're Germans.
>>
>>15303142
650s are beginner bikes but you'd be fine on an older viffer too

Back from my pointless ride around the city. Only did ~45mi but I learned things today:

1) Even in just my undies my winter overpants are too fucking hot. Can't wait for my summer mesh pants to come in.

2) The magnets on my ebay tank bag are complete garbage but I can nigger-rig the back straps into an agreeable setup for my cbr250r.

3) Buying an $8 hydration bladder and dropping it into the back protector pocket of my jacket is the most brilliant thing fucking ever.
>>
>>15303332
Carry a small additional fuel reserve, like a bottle...
You never know, might be for you, might be for someone else
>>
>>15303059
I always thing of my 250 as my little "whore" or "harlot". I can dress her up how ever the fuck I want and make her do what I want so long as I through some money at her for gas or maintenance.

Reminds me that I need to put the cargo net back on the pillion.
>>
>>15303112
Yeah, the KLR650 is nice, I own one and it's my favorite for being a general-purpose mule of a bike. It's not fast on the highway, not really quick through the twisties, it's real scary leaning into turns on it's skinny tires, not elegant off-road.

It rides a long way and it's reliable and it will go anywhere a motorcycle can go.

But all the other 650cc big bore dual sports will do pretty much the same thing, same with the higher-tech and better designed, lighter weight bikes like the WR250r, or the DRZ400. WR250r slightly outperforms the KLR650 by virtue of being fuel injected and having a 6th gear, while on 1/3rd the displacement, weights like 150lbs less too.
>>
Bike noob here. How durable are 125cc engines? (Honda grom specifically) I [very] stupidly let an excited kid rev it in neutral whilst I was sitting on it so he would fuck off. He maxed out the red line and it bounced a couple of times. He fucked off once we got threatened to have the cops called on us.
>>
Why was the last episode of Bakuon so bad?

>>
>>15303476
Yeah I haven't done mine yet because you gotta basically tear apart all the rear panels on the bike to get to the fender bolts and tail light assembly which are both going to be replaced.

I've got an LED tail/brake light with integrated sequential turn signals and front LED turn signals to install all at the same time.

In reality it'd probably take me like 2-3 hours max to do it all, but I'm a lazy fucker.
