Yeah mine are a year and a half old, looking very tatty now, don't have a spare £100 at the moment for new ones though, and then if I get cheap ones they will probably last just as long again.

I'd love to get some proper Sidi boots, at the moment I just have some Richa touring boots which are comfy but look shit and are no longer waterproof.

>any normal bike can run with no battery, but DCTs need current to engage their clutches
What's powering the fuel pump? A lot of modern ECUs won't trigger ignition without some voltage read from the battery and if the battery (or wiring loom) is damaged in such a way that it's shorting out then you're just going to cook your alternator.
>>
>>15237693

An EFI bike can't be run on less than 12v, bump start or not. You need 12v to get fuel to the injectors and to power the ecu.

>not having a crock pot in your top box

Thanks, that's what I thought. I'm also struggling to think of scenarios where your battery would suddenly die in the middle of nowhere but the bike would be left otherwise unharmed. I've only seen one accident where battery acid ended up on the road and the entire motorcycle was torn asunder.

I've had it for probably ~6 months also posted it on /dat/ and /dbt/ multiple times.

Traded my yz250 in for it with cash adjustment. It's a bit rough around the edges in some places like a few dints in the rims and expansion chamber dings.
But mechanically it's perfect.

I need to find some better indicators for it though I keep kicking them off every time I get on and off the bike.

But since I got pic related it hasn't seen much use. At least I can wrench on it in my spare time.

doesn't matter what this means, you retards here like whatever you do for inane reasons, arguing with people who think carbs are the best, think drum brakes are good, think they can outride traction control even though they've never ridden anything larger than a 250 and can't go around onramps without running into trucks is pointless.

But is the GSX better motorcycle overall? doubtless, it's 9 years newer, has better bits and weighs much less.
>>

QLD so no. But rego is only $250/year which I can easily justify paying.

It's still the bike I can jump on with minimal gear to go down to the shops for lunch and then go terrorise a nearby park or reserve.

I'm waiting for my mate to fix his kx125 so we can head to some organised rides and state forests again.

>>

This bit confused me, some sources have said it's a 2005-2008 engine, which had a displacement just a hair below 999cc while others that list the displacement (and also list the 2005-2008 as just under 999cc) list it at exactly 999cc.

TC just uses the existing ABS sensors feeding data to the ECU. If it fails, just pull the fuse and ride the bike without TC.

Traction control wouldn't do anything in these cases though since Hydroplaning and a total lack of grip [oil] aren't something torque vectoring is going to fix.

ABS saved you but braking without locking the wheels up at all would have been faster.

True, if your bike has snatchy-as-hell throttle response like the GSX-S you are liable to to accidentally break traction. Other than that I don't see how you could accidentally give significantly more throttle than you intended to unless you have the motor skills of a child.

TC on my bike works on wheel rotation speeds. If the back wheel spins faster than the front TC slows the rear down.

You can call this bs all you want but I'd sooner trust BMW mechanics than a few anonymous no bikes on the internet telling me how my bike works.

If I didn't have TC or ABS in any of these circumstances my new bike would've been a write off.

Y'all fuckers and your "ABS AND TC MAKE ME SLOW HURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR"

Jesus christ, it's like you guys only ride on flat, straight roads and that's why you go "hurr, I can see shit miles away". Sure ABS/TC aren't needed at all in practically every case, but if you're riding a lot, why the fuck not have it, it's just a nice thing to have, that can really help, and if you really think you can out brake ABS on a street going bike in street going situations when not paying complete attention you must be fuckin casey stoner. But you're not.

If you actually rode bikes like a champ, you'd know that touge's can be unpredictable, especially when you're knee down around blind corners where you can't see if shit is on the road.

People dissing on TC and ABS honestly just need to go ride over oil mud shit, and come back and say "I didn't need TC at all, I felt fine."

>coming from a dude who has never owned a bike with ABS or TC, ever, yet even ridden one.
>owned 17 bikes so far
>>
>>15238092
I have big hands so it's good for me especially since it's winter here now. Riding to work when it's 8c can get pretty cold.

Also I commute on the highway to and from work every day so cruise control is fantastic for when I can't be fucked holding the throttle open.

As for your blog I only have a leather jacket for protection apart from a helmet, my work boots and summer riding gloves (because heated grips).

Surely people have cars for when it rains? Who the fuck would willingly ride in the rain? The only time I've ever ridden in the rain is when I've had no choice. Shits too dangerous otherwise
>>
>>15238122
Explain why MotoGP uses traction control?
>>
>>15238122
Also following onto this. Heated grips are a blessing when you commute on a bike with wind chills below 0 in freezing rain.

I wish I had cruise control, shit would be mad for touring.

Also, rain gear, don't diss on what people wear, some people don't like getting sick.
>>
>>15238122
youre not even a real rider in my eyes

Dunno about TC, as I said never rode one, rode my dads ABS BMW and the brakes off road worked fine until I started going fast, of course if you hammer the brakes the ABS is going to flicker and you'll eventually come to a jarring stop. Definitely do not recommend though.
>>
>>15238169
It was almost as spooky. The GoPro offers a much better view than I had because my eyes were ravaged by the brightness of snow-reflected light. I have a dark tinted visor and also had the internal sun visor down on the glacier but it wasn't enough to let me see beyond about 2 bike lengths in the tunnel with them removed.
>>
>>15238175
my brothers mt-07 nearly completely loses its brakes off road, you can use maybe 10% front or rear before the abs starts kicking in, on my bike you can use a good 50% of the brakes before the front wheel starts to lock and maybe 20% of the rear before it locks
>>
>>15238164
Depends how loose the road surface is and how much throttle you're giving it.
>>
>>15238193
Again my dads bike was a GS so it is tailored for light offroading. Could have been a factor.

Again no idea what you're trying to prove?

My whole ABS TC thing was about street use not competitive and offroad.

>>
>>15238269
>I'm curious to know why so many people hate on ABS and TC

-Riding without them makes you a 'better' rider
-They cost money so either they have to be a waste or you have to admit you don't have as much money
>>
>>15238269
Not him but i don't like traction control because every system i have come across lets you lose traction momentarily then cuts the power, talk about asking to highside, id rather lowslide tyvm.

As far as ABS is concerned it steals braking power, sure if you are someone who is likely to grab a hand full of brakes and eat shit get ABS but if you have good brake control you are better off without it.

I would never recommend ABS or TC for a beginner rider though, teaches bad habits of grabbing a hand full of brakes in panic situations and bad throttle control on corner exits which pretty much means they will never be able to ride a bike without those systems safely.

Not my bike, just a rental. There was only one place in the city that had bikes for rent.

I'm back in the US now.

Was a fun ride around the mountains, though. I learned to ride in India, so taking a spin on the back roads in Central America was a blast. Like I said, it was my first time off-road. So much fucking sand and volcanic poo.

The outermost layer of my riding gear alone isn't very warm. Especially without their thermo lining. Usually I have no problems with low temperature, but this time I wasn't expecting it because it's June and therefor I didn't realize to prepare for it accordingly at first.

Honestly when looking for a first bike you want something that you'll be able to hone your skills on and be comfortable on. Say you're riding on the highway and a big wind gusts and it blows you about, you need a heavier bike so you can maintain more control. Because of this, you also need it to have enough power so that as you get better at riding you don't feel like you're outpacing the bike. Because of this, I recommend something sensible that has at least 4 cylinders and at least 999cc. Something like a gsx1300r or a cbr1100xx would be a great starting point.
