Personally, I'd make it so the screen sits right on top of the wheel or as close to it as possible, so that you can use a closer to real FOV.
Other than that I like it, jelly of your shifter and pedals.
Nice pics on the wall too.

In addition to being a fantastic, experienced driver Scottie was also unfairly attractive. When he removed his helmet after a race Scottie’s intense green eyes would smolder with the thrill of competition. His short, mahogany hair would gleam. A warm, genuine smile would spread across his faintly stublly face, dazzling anyone who cared to look with its perfection.

Some decent progress today. Cockpit works fine, its a bit rough around the edges, but everything you need is working now.

All 1 of you who play ARCA Sim Racing know that the rear view mirror reflects the car itself, this is not possible in RF2 the same way its done in ARCA/RF1/GSCE (the variable in the plr file is there, but it doesnt do jack shit). In my opinion it seems that they just made it more complicated to achieve the same result.

Now all that's left is to set the multiple chassis packages up, fix a few textures here and there and exorcise the ghost of Dale Sr. from the car and get a real driver behind the wheel

and it's perfectly fine that there was absolutely no progress in this regard for 5 years, from a game that is made to run on Pentium II's to a game that requires SM2.0

right

oh wait - in RBR static shrubs can completely shatter your windshield, avoiding the whole front of the car, having no actual collision. that surely is 5 years of progress

>>
>>15153036
There may have been no progress concerning such rather unimportant stuff, but there has been progress on the most important part of a driving game. The driving model

Rally 2000's physics just feel bad, even when editing the files. There just never is any challenge when driving. There's no such thing as locking up brakes and there's never a real feeling of understeer or oversteer. You just hit the brake, the rear end gets loose and with that get the around the corner. And you can do that in every corner, there's absolutely no need to ever use the handbrake

Dirt Rally was made by the company that brought you Colin McRae Rally

RBR was made by Warthog, who also made Rally Championship Xtreme, which was published by Actualize, which just previously published Rally Championship 2000.

The developer of Rally Championship 2000 (aka Mobil 1 Rally Championship) previously made International Rally Championship, Network Q RAC Rally Championship, and also the Lotus series for the Amiga. The Lotus games were published by Gremlin, who also developed Fatal Racing/Whiplash.
>>

>>15153036
>and it's perfectly fine that there was absolutely no progress in this regard for 5 years, from a game that is made to run on Pentium II's to a game that requires SM2.0
Yes. Good is good.
>>
>>15153065
physics, driving models, etc. will advance anyway as computing power increases, it would be beyond retarded if games regressed in this. RC2000 is 5 years older than RBR, and it was released when technology advances were much steeper, so of course it's going to be a lot cruder and simpler than RBR, while a game released 5 or even 10 years after RBR won't be that much more complex.

>most important part of a driving game. The driving model
except it's not just a driving around game, it's a rally sim, i.e. it simulates participating in a rally championship. there's a lot more complexity to rally than just the difficulty of handling a car on slippy surfaces going around hairpins, especially when it's a full length championship and not just a one time ride won in a radio show contest.

I did for a long time. I had fun drifiting the XF, and the bmw formula car was also great, but I can't buy it because the capital controls in my country won't allow me to purchase anything out of my country except for steam. That said, the formula BMW is a fun little car if we were to do some fun races with it, but we don't have a lot of tracks to work with. One good thing is you can make your own courses in the car park, so gymkhana, autocross and drift contest can be a nice thing to do in it.

This might sound retarded, but why isn't it optimal to upshift at redline always? Wouldn't the lower gear always rev up faster than a higher gear? Shouldn't I milk that for all its worth?
>>
>>15159733
Your optimal shift point is what gives you the highest average torque from the engine.
>>
>>15159733
that depends on the torque you get at x rpm. If the fall off is way beyond your redline, you should be okay with shifting at redline
>>
>>15159754
>>15159758
So how do you know when to shift when you dont have handy dyno charts? Like IRL or in games without any? I know Initial D is supposed to have optimal shift points but hell if I know how to tell the max torks in that game.
>>
>>15159773
i would assume that something in the lines of:

>car does not accelerate as much as ~2k rpm before
is a clean indication of the torque band going down.

Ok, so this is what I did. (sorry for the wait, had to answer a neighbour)

Wheel rotation deg should match the game, 540 in the case of rF.
In the main menu, go to Customize -> Vehicle
Select a car and then under the Upgrades tab, go to FFB Multiplier and select in the options that come up Real Feel Plug In, and after choosing it should say "installed".
Then go back to Customize -> Settings -> Controls
And in Force Feedback select "Wheel" and "Low" and then in the last option, just go for a percentage that you think it's comfortable. I don't know if like with Logitech's you need to start from the Negatives.
THEN
AND THIS IS THE ONE THAT FUCKED ME UP:
Go to (in Settings) Difficulty: and set in the Steering Help option "Off".
This is the bitch that makes the wheel turn funky when everything else is set up properly.

>>15159754
Optimal shift isn't the highest average torque number.
You need to consider HP and Torque at the same time.
Ideally you want to go as high in HP as possible without falling too much off the torque cliff.
You consider the fall of the torque avg and consider how high you can go in RPM towards a bigger HP number without the fall of torque being too great.
You shift a bit past the highest avg torque number (given that HP is still and not fallen) so that past the shift, you fall back into an rpm range that is within the highest avg torque.
This is so that you always have the best pushing force available at any given time.
If you shift at the peak and fall down, you'll have to make the engine work hard again to get back to it's best pushing power.
If you go past it, you have enough kinetic energy going forward to compensate for that little bit of time you're shifting and falling back to the peak.

This is all of course not as simple because engines behave differently. But games usually provide a torque and hp chart, so it's not an issue.
But it's easy to find where the cliff is by feel and sound though.

>>
>>15160731

>>
>>15160762
Forgot the simple explanation of:
Torque = "pushing power" (actually rotating force, which through the tranny and wheels is converted to movement)
HP = "how fast you can push that shit"
Hence why they are considered together and you should check both when doing runs with a car.
>>
>>15160637
Thanks, I'll give it a go next time why wheel is set up.
I followed this guide; http://isiforums.net/f/showthread.php/614-rFactor-Better-FFB-Tutorial which uses both Leo's FFB and RealFeel, not sure if that would cause a problem selecting RealFeel in the upgrades, but whatever.
>>
>>15160784

If anybody remembers I was contemplating between 2 weeks.
Though you might want a good laugh.

Turns out that this russian wheel is actually the exact copy of this shit which was made 3 years ago

You explore by doing jobs, transporting goods from one place to another. Apart from that, there's not much else to do. You can freeroam, but you mostly do that to pick up your next trailer or to go to a upgrade shop or something. And then, you can hire more drivers and buy them trucks, which ofcourse increases the profit you make

Yeah, they are comfy (there are rush jobs too though, and challenging ones).
You can also just cruise.
You can also own your own transport firm.
You can also edit your own skin like with other sims, so you can go mariana trench deep with roleplaying as a firm owner.

It's one of my most played games.

The DF GT has "paddles" on the back of the steering wheel too.

FFB is a big deal for sims, when the FFB motor died on my DF GT I stopped playing until I got a new wheel. I disliked using a wheel without FFB that much. I have a G27 and these are a few things that I've noticed.

>DF GT pedals are garbage
>DF GT FF is damn gud(stronk)
>having the PS button was nice when used on PS3

>G27 pedals are much better(still not the best)
>having the H-gate and clutch is fun for dicking around but you're going to end up being a hair slower and I still use paddles for competitive racing
>the materials are much nicer, stainless and leather rather than the plastic and rubber of cheaper wheels
>much quieter than the DF GT when aligning and during use
>holding value pretty well
>>
>>15161596
Ahvenisto, I was trying muh new livery and might do some practice laps already.

Btw are we doing full or LT or whatever version of the Ahvenisto track?
>>

>FFB is a big deal for sims
>I am playing sims

I have a broken wheel right now with no feedback.
All I want is a durable and accurate wheel that can survive hours of racing. That being said, I am leaning towards the DF GT now.
>>
>>15162115
Even a DF Pro would suit your needs it's sounding like, I had 2 DF GT FFB motors die on me before I got my G27. I gifted my DF Pro to a friend when I upgraded to the DF GT and it still works.

Okay, I am sold, I will most likely get the dfgt.

>>15162143
But assuming the motor dies, I can still have an accurate 900 deg wheel right? How long will the motor last?

I went through 2 of them in 7 years. Do you lower the FFB values in game or through the logitech profiler?

>>15162258
Depends on how much you race, but at least a few years assuming it's lightly used. Also, yes the wheel still works it's just loosey goosey.
>>
>>15161867
LT is just with less trees
>>
>>15162484
having your FFB strong reduces your wheel life span so maybe thats why
you lower your FFB through the game yeah, you only set things like degrees of rotation and damping through the profiler
>>
>>15161491
>even considering ffb-less, supportless noname wheel
>not to mention how crappy it looks
geez anon

anyway, proper wheels are built to last. dfgt may be budget, but it's definitely a proper wheel, it won't decalibrate or anything
>>
>>15161491
forgot to mention, having a really obscure, not well known wheel will mean that it wont be supported properly in most games, the dfgt is pretty popular so it gets a lot of support.
if that shit has an issue you wont be able to look for help because hardly anyone has it

I like to consider options, even if options are shit, you learn something in the process and if you are not in a hurry to buy you can do that.

>>15162560
I already have an obscure cheap shit wheel. But thanks for the though.

i'm not sure if chink noname ffbless wheel can even be considered as a "shit option".

if you're such a option-seeker, lolitech momo may be a proper "shit option" - even though it's 240 degrees (i heard something about 900 mods), it at least features force feedback and some kind of software support/popularity.
