I posted this last night looking for advice.

I'll be taking an 11 hour trip, traveling from N. Utah, to Saint George, then on to Las Vegas, Las Angeles and finally Huntington Beach.

I'm originally from Philadelphia, so I know what city driving is like but for the past 3 years, I've barely been down from the mountains, been living in a small town above 7000ft elevation. When I get into LA, Ill be in a town with a greater population than my Entire State. This will also be, by far, the longest trip I've ever taken on a motorcycle.

I'm thinking its best to leave my house at midnight, so its still early when I hit the Nevada Desert and traffic wont be too bad in Las Angeles. Then again, Las Angeles traffic might always be bad. I've only been there once when I was like, 15.

Any LA Fags give me some advice?
What are the odds my bike gets stolen if i leave it unattended for an hour or two?

what are the odds I get run over in Las Angeles?

Do i have greater odds of getting run over if I filter or will the be worse if i dont?

Well, worst come, you could try find someone who lives over there. Someone like me. I'm 191cm tall myself and there's a huge motorcycle/accessory store near me, got my pants from there. Believe it or not but they're actually a bit longer than what I'd consider perfect fit.
And no, they ain't some turbo fat burger models either, made for "fit and tall" people. I'm a lanky shit myself and they sit quite nicely on the waist.

Quite possibly. I actually had a pair of alpinestars as a kid back when I still had my Aprilia RS125. I wasn't 191 tall back then, but still past 180 easy and they fit me perfectly. They also had pairs for taller people back then.

Currently own a pair of Lindstrands STR Lizards, they were cheaper but offer quite the lot of protection, are very well put together and feel like they're quite high quality.

meh idk if thats a fair price broheem.

2 months ago I bought a 2004 ninja 250 (which is an inline four water cooled platform, not a big air cooled thumper cruiser) with 4,333 miles on it for $1600 bucks. It's practically brand fucking new still, and operates like it.

This bike you posted here has at the very least, 1/5th of the total mileage it will do ridden out on it already. Did it have valve adjustments, and at the right times? What about the carb and the oil. Did they run thinner oil in the summer and thicker oil the winter? Was it abused? lots to question on a bike with that mileage and age i guess.

plus its a 250 cruiser thumper. its gonna be as slow as a dog and you WILL NOT be happy with it.
>>
>>15130068
inline four lol wtf did i just say.....i didnt mean that.

what i MEANT to say was its a different design of the engine so its (reasonably) faster than a thumper 250 cruiser. While its still just a 250, I get up to 65mph very fast and that makes me happy.
>>
>>15130068
OK, can you recommend a good beginner bike? Something lightweight preferably.
>>
>>15130079
ninja 250 or ninja 300
cbr500

just get something with a good name brand and you dont have to start on a 250, you could get a 300 400 or 500cc bike and learn on that just fine.

i would have fucked myself up learning on a 500cc tho, the way I was turning, shifting and generally being bad wouldve got me hurt many times lol. dont be like me, take an hour in a parking lot to ACTUALLY get the basics down - dont go buy it from someone on craigslist that lives 18 miles away and have to ride it home, having never ridden a bike. shits intense yo.

It's not like they have them in England either. Right now, there are literally 8 in the entire UK split between four websites and in various states of disrepair.

One is a slapped-together bobber that isn't even street legal.
Two have around 50000 miles on the clock and are generally not worth the effort
One is majorly overpriced

The remaining 4 are all first-gen and are scattered across the north of England, Scotland and Somerset. Life is hard for a weeaboo motorcyclist.

ill give you a little hint: Ya see kiddo, in the winter, it gets cold outside. So cold infact, that you'd want to change the jetting in your carb and run a thinner oil in the motor. Likewise in the summer, when it gets hot outside.

everyone's different. My first bike was a custom 1981 cb750f. That was lowered, had straight drag bars, vance and hines 4 into 1 pipes, performance carbs and a custom paint job.

thing sounded like a hell demon and was fast as balls. I spend 15 minutes in the parking lot before I got bored and hit the street. I didn up up dropping that bike twice on windy roads and loose gravel but hey, I still came out in one piece.

I know LA and know Huntington Beach very very well.

what chu want to know bby
>>
>>15130625
alright now listen up, mate.

the thing you pointed at is what allows air to circulate in the crankcase. its needed because the downwards and upwards movement of the piston makes the volume of the crankcase bigger and smaller (so it needs ventilation)

the "gunk" in the part is motor oil. usually theres a seperator for exactly that, at least in older enduro bikes. if its really full of gunk, try to clean it by rinsing through gasoline.

is it dissolves or doesnt work, buy a new one.

seriously though, the forces involved are big enough that a little oil in the filter should not matter at all. id clean it a bit and then keep riding.

you can die if you ride a small one.

I think learning street bikes is just trial by fire. You're gonna survive or you wont.
Its not so much handling/size of the bike.
600c sport bikes are fast as fuck and you can be as scrawny as you wanna be to ride one. Its not going to help the fact the the 800 year old shriveled up Asian woman behind you, who cant see over the steering wheel, fails to notice that traffic has come to a dead stop and squashes you like a flapjack.
>>
>>15130877

>>
>>15130936

>>
>>15130936
cont..

learning to ride is about knowing whose behind you while being ever aware of the road in front of you and the cars flanking you. as well as always always always pulling to the far right anytime traffic has stopped ahead of you, so the person behind you hits the car in front of you instead of pancaking you, car doors opening up on you by zooted out city people, bitches that suck at intersections, wildlife at night and the inevitable surprise patch of gravel that showed up out of nowhere over night on your favorite corner of you favorite twisties.

If only Japan didn't have a crazy hardon for retro bikes maybe Hane would have ridden something actually relevant to the rest of the world.
>>
>>15130983

But it's so boring. I looked at Triumph Street Triples and Ducati Monsters, but they're so maintenance intensive.
>>
>>15130298
2expensive. DRZs have meme tax so if you can't find one cheaper than $2200 you should probably look for another model
>>
>>15130298
go for a dr350/650 or xt350/600, they can be had for quite a bit less money if you take your time.
the 350s wont have the same pep but the dr350 is pretty cheap to put a 440 kit on later if you wanted.
>>
>>15131038
define boring. you could also consider a husqvarna nuda or a bmw s1000r or a z750
>>
>>15131083

It would be more fair for me to say plain, rather than boring. My budget is like 4 to 5 grand.
>>
>>15131118
Get a tl1000s or sv1000 or cb599 or fz1
>>
>>15131131

>TL1000S
The S stands for suicide, bruh.
>SV1000
True. It's like a reliable Monster with a fairing
>CB599
Are these fuel injected? I forgot to mention fuel injection would be HIGHLY preferred. I'm tired of mucking about with carbs.
>FZ1
Very plain. Will consider.
>>
>>15128997
I noticed a 60kg grill on the back. But not that much, mostly just because she was holding me tight and I had to give a little bit more gas
>>
So I've never came across this issue. While I was riding I was coming to a stop and I tried to put the bike into 1st gear, but it stayed in neutral. Every time I tried to kick down into first the shifter vibrated, I'm guessing I believe I grinded something. It's only happened this time so I don't quite know if I damaged something. is this is clutch cable issue or a clutch problem?
>>
>>15131163
You ever think there's a reason so many people bought so many of the "plain and boring" bikes?
>>
>>15131182
A lot of vehicles don't like to go into 1st unless moving really slowly. If you were stopped it could have just been that things in your transmission weren't lined up right so you needed to roll a little bit.
>>
>>15131184
I think the bikes are plain and boring because of their popularity.
>>
>>15131182
they can be finicky at times, if it does it again let the clutch out slightly into the friction zone to get it to engage properly.
>>
>>15131156
Get an fz8. I love mine.
>>
>>15131196
>>15131189
Alright, I'll take that into consideration and keep an eye on it. I was getting a little worried.
