you know how if you pull the lever part of the way so that when you give throttle it will spin up the engine but not all of the power will go to the wheel? That is is you slipping the clutch.

A slipping clutch is one that produces the same effect without you pulling the lever

YEC is the Yamaha Racing ECU. It's a really simple switch to flash your ECU to a streetable version so you can do remapping, speedo calibration, etc, without having a Power Commander and increasing your insurance premiums (if applicable where you live).

YCC-T is just electronic throttle. Some people get mad about them but I kind of like mine honestly. They're REALLY easy to tune though.

>can you get rid of the low midrange?
Get rid of? R6 don't have any anyway. You do your remaps to try and add some in.

Realistically all the 600s feel really similar to each other and most people couldn't tell the differences. Buy whichever you like the most and don't worry too much about it.

>>15103603
I used to mainly ride Hondas but I really love my R1. I was in the market for a CBR1000RR originally but the R1 was right place right time.

>human nature
Pretty much man haha. I can't get into most Kawasakis besides KR1S but one of the old ZX6R was the bike that really made me want to start riding.

Honda has always focused on drivability and street riding the most of the big four while having the most conservative image. The ZX6R, GSX-R600, and R6 were all hard as fuck race bikes for the street long before Honda finally gave in and made the CBR600RR.

In recent years since that global recession Honda has made a big push on affordable lower end bikes like the Grom, 250/300, 500, 650F, etc. which has left their supersport development (among other things) on the backburner. They're not -bad- bikes and still reasonably competitive on the track but they aren't cutting edge, which is particularly unfortunate because Honda is also historically known for being a technology leader in motorcycles. (there's still stuff like the VFR DCT mind you)

So put all that together and you don't get much in the way of really exciting bikes lately. But there's a big lineup renewal coming in the next couple model years.

Also, for all sub-$1k bikes, MAKE SURE IT IDLES SMOOTHLY before buying. A lot of these bikes have spent considerable time in barns and garages, and old thick gooey gas left in the carbs is their main problem. Although this isn't a problem for an experienced wrench, it's no job for newbies. If the job was done right, the bike will idle smoothly and give no hint of stalling when the throttle is cracked open. If the bike idles high (like over 1,500 RPM) or tends to stall, or idle floats around before settling down, say "no".

It's really small. Back in the eighties, Honda built a number of small twins. They were all pretty reliable, and not very powerful. They generally ran well and were easy to ride.

The kind of problems you get with old bikes is e.g. the fuel tap leaks, the alternator or regulator fails, and new parts are stupid expensive, so you end up getting various aftermarket replacements...

Item 2 in old bike buying: If the bike has old or (shudder) original tires, buy new ones... New tires stick 5x better than tires from 20 years ago.

wait it out if it doesn't hurt too bad, bones that have been broken for a day or two show up better on xray

if you see deep bruising that goes "through" bones, like from one side to the other, and hurt a lot, good chance it's broken

it's also worth noting that sprains can hurt a hell of a lot more than break

>>15104244
The thought of dropping a bike is way scarier than the real thing, unless you do it in front of oncoming traffic.
I've dropped a bike twice on the road, and way too many times to remember offroading on dirtbikes.

Wear proper gear, and protect your bike too. Crash bars, frame sliders, axle sliders, bar ends, and etc. You can low side at 60mph and come away with nothing more than scratched paint if you're lucky.
>>
>>15104230
>Any good ways to tell if any bones are broken?
They aren't broken, or you wouldn't ask that. It's kind of a sick feeling. And you have new joints where you didn't before.

And no rush, if they are broken, the ortho will want to re-break and re-set them when you see him in a few weeks (his first available appointment) anyway.

Nearly 50bhp, tons of low end torque, and gas mileage over 60mpg. The engine is purpose built for commuter bikes.

It's either broken or sprained. It will heal faster if broken. Seeing a doc is optional, as it will heal whether you get a cast or not. When I broke my ankle, I could walk on it if I limped *just right*, so I just lived with it and it was fine in six weeks. When my son broke his foot, we went to the doctor, and then an orthopedist, he got a "cast shoe" and was fine in six weeks. And so it goes.

I always liked the headlight on these. They did somehow made the depth really apparent.

The base models aren't that expensive, they just have a lot of optional goodies that they charge an absurd amount for.

That naked R version is pretty damn sexy too. Side profile makes the tank lines look super aggressive.

which ankle? if it's not your shift foot you can still ride
>>
>>15104477
fuck I'm drunk, other way around. How is a valve adjustment easier than a tire change? The chain tensor adjuster on my bike alone is enough destroy any motivation in doing the valves yourself.

Taxation is, unfortunately, a necessity. I'd love to be a libertarian but I enjoy way too many things that an infrastructure built on taxation to do that.

If I could have gov't just for infrastucture and nothing else that'd be ideal IMO

Really depends on the bike. On the old Honda's like that Rebel, it's a screw adjuster and takes no more than a little patience, no screwing around with chain tensioner or anything. I don't know what you have, but unless it's a shim-under-bucket setup, it's pretty straightforward...

Shim-under-bucket sucks. Fortunately, you only have to do it twice in the entire life of the bike.

>>
>>15104563
I figured most people just take the wheel and new tires to the shop to get it mounted and balanced. Taking it home to have it actually put on their bikes themselves since it would cost much less than taking the entire bike in.

This, my local shop aligns the wheel with a lazer and adjusts/lubes the chain. He is bro tier.
>>
>>15104590
I think most people here think changing the tire is actually a few bucks at the shop. Not doing the entire process yourself. But I could be wrong, I don't know a lot of people with actual tire changing tools, nor do they fool around trying to zip tie them off either.
