Found my slight coolant leak finally.
It is coming out from that drain pipe. I think the shaft seal on the water pump must be on its way out.

Do you think that would be a drain hose for that issue? I looked on the parts fish but it doesn't really show it.

Did an oil change and the oil had no water contamination, so I assume that is the pupose of that drain.

You will need to replace the mechanical seal, but it may be best due to the age and amount of km's your bike has to replace the bearing, oil seal, mechanical seal and the impeller shaft.

Also depending on your area you may find a decent 400/500 cc bike on Craig's list for around that price. Be wary though. Some people have beaten these midsize bikes into the dirt, then look to cash in when they buy something new or break a part that costs half as much as the bike will sell for.

Avoid KTMs Haojiangs and strange off brand Chinese bikes. You might be able to find them for cheap, but getting repair parts will take forever as they come on the same slow boat from china.

Your average 250-300 class bike will only run about 4000 to 5000 brand new. Put down a grand and in 2 years at 170 per month it's paid off at the worst case scenario.

Either way, do what you can afford. Socal has a lot of bikes, and a lot of sand and sun out west so you're going to see dirtbikes and dual sports on craig's list a lot.

On bikes around 4k the type of financing they do amounts to a dealer specific credit card. Say you're buying a $4000 CBR 300 from the shop.

They will call their bank and set up a line of credit rather than a traditional loan and you get a card. NEVER EVER USE THAT CARD FOR ANYTHING ELSE, the interest rate is tied into the card. Don't put maintenance on it or anything else.

Also most of them have 0 penalty for early pay off. so if you initially signed a 24 month deal, and pay it off in 6 or 12 your credit will improve.

Used bikes have no intensive from the manufacturer to be sold, they are pure profit for the dealer. Some are on consignment some are trade in. They are't often going to take the risk even on a small loan and will want payment outright. When buying new the financing branch of whatever bank they go through is guaranteeing the dealer money.

So if Dealer A has a 2008 ninja for sale at $2000 they aren't likely to offer financing, they own it and it is taking up floor space. They may allow you to do payments with something like half up front, though it is entirely up to the owner and finance department.

Yes, that is called 3rd party financing. And you don't have to tell the dealer shit about it. Go in, lock down the price in writing then go to a credit union and apply there for the small loan. to the dealer you're paying cash. then the credit union you pay your monthly fees to.

I did that to a dealer in Colorado, went in and bought a bike with a 5 year plan and 0 penalty for early payoff. then went to a credit union and took out the exact payoff value for a third of the interest. A week later and went back to the dealership and paid it off in front of the guy who thought he'd just gouged me for a high interest rate.
