The throttle response lag is due to it using a secondary throttle butterfly setup, if you remove them it is heaps better.

It's not that they can't do anything above 50, it's just that they don't have much guts and you feel it at higher speed, especially once you're going 80+.

Plus they're geared fairly short so you'll be turning high-ish rpm's at 70+. My Ninjette will sit on 9k at 70mph.

Don't go into it expecting it to be fast and you won't be disappointed.

I am currently hesitating with an sv 650 n. But those bikes are hard to find where I live, at least injection models. Sv's from 2000-2003 are easy to find but way to expensive for what they are.

For instance I can buy an Er6-F from 2006 with 21k kms for 2500€.

Usually I can get a 2000 sv's with 50k kms for the same price where I live.

So I really think that I will go for the er6. And to be honest as a beginner I don't think I will find a shocking difference between thos bikes.

What would be a good first dual sport for someone who is fairly experienced with road motorcycles but has never been offroad? Would prefer something with decent oil capacity. I'm 6'1", 90kg and live in Australia.

Boulevard is a write off according to three mechanics. first one had a look at it, said fix it and then sell it but then fixing it will cost money, rego is due this month, it's got rust spots all through the chrome.

in the meantime i'm going back to my old bike, i'll fix it up and then sell it and buy another commuting bike.

I've got my eyes fixed on the vstrom due to the windshield and riding position and also the general look of the bike.

hyosong make really cheap bikes haven't heard too much bad about them. i've seen a 600cc for mid 3000's but it's got an aggresive riding position

grom is really cheap but i'm not so sure about riding on the highway with it.

postie bike with a 150cc engine swap would be like 2k and would last much longer but without the windshield i'm unsure about it on the highway even if it keeps up. i also think they'll be semi collectible in the future

any other options? don't really want a lams bike since you get more bike for your dollar if it's not lams, i'd perfer a 600cc.

also, i'm just wondering about the economics of it all. i would be putting like 10-20k's on it every year and it would have no resale value after like 4-5 years of commuting so the bike would literally become a throw away
