Coilovers are generally pretty stiff, depending on your definition of a rough ride it might get worse or stay around the same.
If you get normal (not super or otherbullshit) low springs you'll have essentially a factory ride and decent distance before the bump stops.

The alternative is for coilovers with fairly soft springs and adjustable shock rate so you can match them as closely as possible.

Definitely go the way of an AU gasket and studs. Supposedly they last over 300,000km's. The ones on the E series typically lasted between 100-150,00 kms.

Can't say I'm aware of any solutions for the overheating issues.
An old co-worker had one with a V8 (swapped, wasn't the original motor) that kept overheating. I recommended he swap the fan on the engine for a thermofan. He ended up doing that as well as a few other things and it never ran too hot afterwards.

To answer what your question probably was: Maybe. Vice grips aren't made of particularly hard steel.
You're probably better off to get a double hex socket, slightly smaller than the bolt head, and hammer it on, then unwind it with a ratchet. The hammering also helps shock the bolt loose.

Confirmed, it's a Falcon. Probably not worth worrying about. It'll be one of the hydraulic lifters, and it'll probably go away when the engine's warm. The tapping will be slower than you expect because they actually idle quite low.
