also what about the wiring looks dodgy? not very good with electrics myself
also i'll see about the alarm but it looks like I can buy insurance online with sgic
>>
>>14935929
r33 GTR anon here, was going to debate RB oiling issues but you cunts already did that for me.

I actually ended up getting the 9 litre sump solution, by the way. Mine grenaded taking a corner at 280, starved itself of oil. Rebuild fixed the problem.

It's something to be aware of, even in non 32's. The problem is still there, so fork out extra for the solution, it's really not that bad. Only like 2.5k for me.

Don't let my bad experience deter you from not buying, by the way. Just be prepared for lots of hidden costs, because these cars have all been thrashed to hell and back. And they need lots of love.
>>
>>14935943
No ring terminals there boss, and i can't see myself using wire with that thin of a gauge for much of anything.

Check your insurance fineprint, there's a good chance if it doesn't specifically mention that an alarm is required for it, it'll say something about there being no theft coverage without one.
My justcar is like that, luckily my soarer came with an actually really well done alarm+imm+keyless that even pops the boot. Would've been looking at around $1k for something like that if i had to do it.

>>
>>14935958
>taking a corner at 280
So how is this relevant to RBs having oiling issues?
If you're corning at 280 you've done such heavy modifications that with any engine you should've had a serious oiling solution in place already.

For normalfags a nismo pump and running slightly above the full line is all that's needed to keep 99% of RB happy.

Not all of them have been thrashed to hell and back, you're just looking for one of the last of the good ones that go for $30k+. It's the reason i bought a soarer for under $4k, so i had $4k left to fix it. If i had $13-14k i could've just bought one that was good in the first place.
>>
>>14935974
It came lightly modified and i was still not fully versed in the ins and outs before i did such a thing.

Had i known, i would have gotten the sump before. Thus, why i'm letting people know if they will be getting one to keep it in mind, better to know than not.

And i'm sure there's one or two out there in decent condition but trust me, everyone who's owned it in the past has taken it for a hoon.

It's gonna need some sort of repair, might be a little or a lot, but it's another thing to be aware of.

Amazing car though and i love it to bits, i've had so much fun ever since i bought it. Broke my heart waiting for the rebuild.
>>
>>14935961
alright, is it okay if i get insurance through parents? from what i can see with sgic its okay but i have to pay $600 additional excess if i crash it
sounds okay to me seeing as it would be $200 for my dad or like 800 if its in my name
still living at home until i finish uni probably too
>>
>>14935999
Make sure that's with you down as the primary driver, not just as 'a' driver. They can fuck you if they can get proof you were the one always driving it, although this is unlikely.

Check just car, they're cheap enough that i just went with my own rather than using parents, although i'm 22 now
>>
>>14935939
No because they're lax as fuck besides that. If it's pre-2010, not turbo/sc, not a V8 and not an M3 it's probably P-plate legal.
>>
>>14935877
I don;t really care for rear seat space, might end up with two cars if I get a coupe of some kind, the other car being something a bit more practical like a wagon. Any other coupes that are comfy with decent amount of space?

fuck cunts, i'm noticing something while watching the old mad max.

Max is a fucking badass male role model for young boys to look up to, he's fucking cool and gets shit done.

I can't for the life of me think of a recent film that is portraying a man like this film is.

When did it change from the 80's?
When did men lose their role models?

Legit, the max from this film seems so much more like a man should than the one from fury road.

>>
>>14936746
I actually agree, but it's a theme not just limited to max. Look at men in any 80's film compared to how men are portrayed now.

Media's gotten pretty damn toxic and it's leaking over into culture. Boys are not allowed role models like max anymore.

what makes max and especially the first movies so great is the background really, there's enough manly characters nowadays, but few go out to protect their wife and kid or seek revenge for them without needing some alcoholic, broken life whatever excuse
max is really great because he's believable, reasons, approach, methods. it's somewhat achievable for everyone.

The fucking boomers legit think they all have the super rare ones, but even the regular old ones are selling for like 50k just cause the cunts want to make some shekels.

Well at the moment it looks like I'll be choosing between the Liberty and a 1995 Toyota Corolla with about 150,000k's for $3990 but I'm aiming to get a wagon so I can sleep in it comfortably and want AWD cause there's plenty of gravel roads near me.

>>
>>14940460
You don't need to worry about AWD just for gravel, I drive my VR all over gravel every day.
Funnily enough, my brother has a 1990 Corolla. It's a decent enough car, runs like a fucking tank. But it has no power, you can put your foot into the floor and it'll go nowhere.
The Liberty will be much quicker, at least my mates 94 one was faster than my VR, where as the VR blew the Corolla into the ground.
If I were you and if this is your first car, I'd get the Corolla, just because it'll probably last longer. However, $4k is way to much for a 95 model. Get it down to $3k or lower.

Yeah we're reaching cannibalism for MC22s now. You can source a lot of parts from Honda still but very rarely a CBR250RR part. The brake lever on mine at the moment is off a CBR600RR for instance.

It won't be an issue until random little bits dry up. It's getting awkward to find OEM oil filters now for instance. My main fear is when parts for the carbs start to dry up. There's not a lot of other bikes you can cannibalism them from due to how fucking small they are on the CBR.

I found out recently RACT offer a logbook app that tracks your drives using GPS and compiles all the required info into a PDF that you can print out and hand in, dunno if the other states offer something similar.

It's a cool idea and would take the hassle out of the whole thing but I dunno if I want to be tracked every time I go for a drive.

what's to stop someone from getting a tasmanian license if they live in victoria?

As far as i'm aware, it's license conditions that apply, so a tasmanian on "holiday" in victoria would be able to drive around legally on their p's in a ferrari or whatever.

So a rich person could buy a tasmanian house and then set it as their registered address, register all cars under tasmanian rego + license and i'm just not seeing how it could go wrong.

Legally, the restriction is on victorian p plate licenses.

It's fucking funny, one set of rules for rich people and one for the rest of us.
>>
>>14941991
If you spent too much time 'on holiday' they'd probably fuck you in the ass.
>>
>>14941997
Thats where the bribes come in
>>
>>14941997
But how do they prove it?

I honestly can't see how they will get to the point of even investigating.

>Cop pulls rich guy over in ferrari, he's on his p's
>Cop goes what the fuck
>Tasmanian holiday situation explained
>Cop goes ok since he can't legally fine the cunt
>Possibly defects him a bit to be an asshole
>Guy continues on his merry way

This plan would work even better with ACT license, since they don't have to display P plates as a condition.

You just need to have an address in the state though.
>>
>>14942010
They probably put you on file and if they see you have been pulled over every week for a year (like you will be if you have P plates on a Ferrari) they will ask you to prove you're not living in Vic.
>>
>>14942014
So ACT license, where plates are not required to be displayed. Then you can make up some bullshit about work requring you to spend 51% of time in ACT and 49% in vic.

Plan needs some tweaking but i think for a richfag, it would be amazing.

Wish i could have done it when i was on p's a few years ago
>>
>>14942025
In the end, it really wouldn't be worth the hassle. You should really speak to a law fag, as I doubt they'd let such an obvious loop hole through.
>>
>>14942025
Why bother? Just wait the few years then drive whatever you want
>>
>>14942030
Well it's not something everyone can do, as you need a permanent fixed residence for it.

It is a hassle but imagine being rich, liking cars and being told you can't drive what you love.

They're gonna find a way around it.

I think someone was mentioning china drivers license and then convert it?
>>
>>14941721
>>14941722
It's different in every state. SA doesn't use green Ps or P/W for cars pre-2010.

>>14941756
It's profiling but I kind of get it. It's a certain kind of person that'd be shopping for a P-Plate legal WRX.

>>14941875
I did my hours legitimately but it was something like 50 hours when I had my Ls so it took a month.

>>14941922
Turbo diesels are exempt in most states if they have less than 8 cylinders.

>>14941991
You need a valid address to get the license. You wouldn't be able to get a Tasmanian license as a Victorian. You're also legally required to transfer your license if you move states within a time frame or they can fuck you up the ass.

>>14942025
This >>14942037 people over complicated the Ps process. It's really not THAT long. Who fucking cares?

>>14942038
There'd be something in place to stop that. I know you can transfer a Finnish license to Australia and it exempts you from power restrictions but good luck passing a Finnish driving exam with Australian driver education.

There was a country that had no age requirement for getting your license but you had to get 100% in an absurd written exam full of trick questions to pass. At a certain age (16 or 18) it changed to a standard exam and was easy.

The questions were shit like:
>When turning right at an intersection what lane would you be in
If you said the far right lane you just failed the exam.
>>
>>14942037
I'm not on P's, i'm just curious.

But read >>14942038, i can see why they would bother.

It's a bit fucked to tell them what they can and can't drive, when tasmania has lower fataility rates and they have no restrictions.

Dickheads will be dickheads and a guy in a 200hp rwd car can spin it out same as a guy in a 350hp one, if he's being a dickhead.

I honestly would rather see "D" plates for dangerous drivers like repeat drink drivers, bogans on their fulls who do stupid fucking shit.

P platers in my experience are cheeky, but not all bad. They know to keep their skids to where they won't get done, apart from the few dickhead minorities (who graduate into the full license bogans)
>>
>>14942048
Could not agree more. The problem is not p platers, it's bogans.

I see those cunts in their xr6 turbos being absolute morons every fucking day around me, while the p platers rip a bit of a skid but don't harm anyone.

I wish the media would fucking report on the hundreds of dickhead bogan CUNTS instead of the 1 or 2 idiot p platers.

Bogans are a scourge.

I added the rest of the exhaust back on, the wire coat hanger holding it snapped when I went to cut it. I didn't mind it, but a dodgy mechanic fucked with some shit on it, wasn't worth fixing

actually there's evidence to show that in tasmania, there are less deaths per 100k people, without restrictions.

Is there any legit difference between the vy and vz?
>>
>>14945422
The alloytec in the vz is much better than the ecotec in the vy
>>
>>14945546
aren't they both alloytec, apart from the supercharged motor?

>>14945422
depends on what engine and spec
>>
>>14945565
>aren't they both alloytec?
No. They share absolutely nothing in common.
>>
>>14945584
They have the same visual look of them but the VZ has the alloytec which is a way better motor than the ecotec

>>14945565
Supercharged ecotec only came out in the VT's, but you can put that blower on VS commodores and have somewhat of a sleeper.
>>
>>14945607
wasn't the vx also supercharged ecotec?
and some vs calais as well?
>>
>>14945607
Stop right there.
There are ypung P platers on this board.
Our investigation proves "superchargers" are only tools use by evil hoons. To protect out children, Please do not mention these evil hooning devices.

stop right there, your usage if the word "hoon" has severely triggered me. I have heard those horrid burnout sounds every night for years and am absolutely appalled. sinply because I live in an industrial estate does not mean that I should be subjected to these appalling noises.
the term also triggers me due to an accident I had where the imported Japanese hoon vehicle I was travelling behind broke too heavily and I had no choice but to rearend him. the fact that insurance and police sided with this BLATANT HOON shows how low our country has gotten.
it is proof, alongside the illegal holocaust-like conditions that we keep our kind and peaceful boat immigrants in and the fact that this evil liveral government is spending billions on roads when it could instead go to the poor.
>>
>>14945607
>Supercharged ecotec only came out in the VT's
No, the supercharged V6 option was available for the entire duration of the Ecotec run on higher spec Commodores and Statesmans from VS to VY.
>>14945618
Correct.
>>
>>14941197

The alloytec is a steaming piece of shit. To replace the timing chains (of which there are three) , requires stripping the whole front of car. At a mechanic you are looking at minimum 10hours labour. At the holden dealership you are looking at $2,400+.

This is why everyone flogs them off dirt cheap before they hit the 250k mark. The VE's with the alloytec were prone to early chain stretching, some within 40k.

Ecotecs on the other hand were a solid piece of engineering. My last statesman reached 450k before some mang ran into me on lappy night.

The later Alloytecs had updated chains (can't remember what years though, IIRC 2011 and up). That said, I'd still take a MANGTEC over one.

The missus has had her timing chain on her VE done once and a mate has had to do his twice on his VZ.

>>
>>14946209
fucking hell man just buy a power rack and use that at home
yes it will cost you more but in the long run it's a hell of a lot cheaper than paying out the ass for a gym membershit every year
>>
>>14943718
doesn't matter if it's new south wales or tasmania.. if the statistics are more deaths in that state, and the cause of those crashes are from dangerous driving then they have something to support the restrictions.
though it could be them driving dangerous in shitboxes, i don't know.

either way, there's no way p platers driving 300kw cars on the road would lead to less crashes by them

VS to VY had the ecotec 3800 that made something around 205hp/147kw. The alloytec was a 3.6 litre that was introduced in the VZ, Made 235hp/175kw, the high output version made 250hp/190kw being naturally aspirated.
