So its an expensive pair of overalls?
>>
>>14910937
Have you bled the brakes to make sure there is no air in the line?
>>
>>14910914
no, it has another week in it.

Plus no fucken tyre shops would do it yesterday and they are all closed today. fucks sake.
>>
>>14910937
braided lines actually do very little, and make no discernible difference unless your stock lines are so old they're cracking and bulging or damaged. If you flush and bleed your brakes, running a reservoir or two of clean brake fluid through them, you will probably see a bigger difference than with a $100 set of fancy braided stainless covered hoses.
>>
>>14910954
If you got pulled over by a cop you would get fined for a bald tyre, just saying.
>>
>>14910937
How old are the lines on it now? They could just be fucked, they do specify changing them every x amount of years due to that.
>>
>>14910957
But my owners manual says to replace them every 4 years
>>
>>14910948
Repeatedly and thoroughly. I replaced the master cylinder seals today in an attempt to solve the problem and bled all that through thoroughly as well.
>>
>>14910965
If they are older than 4 years replace them then, up to you if you put braided lines on it, they are more expensive and last longer is about all the difference they will make.
>>
>>14910962
Original I'd imagine, so 20 years old. So you're in favour of the braided lines?

>>14910957
The system is bled of all air and the fluid is fresh as I changed the master cylinder seals today and bled the thing right though. So sick of doing it though (Takes forever, I am a bleeding perfectionist) that I've ordered a Mityvac
>>
>>14910984
I'd change them if they are that old, either way for new rubber or braided will be much better than the old ones. Braided will last longer and give you ebin street cred
>>
>>14910943
yeah, if your overalls are made from shit that doesn't evaporate on contact with the ground and can be put on and taken off over your normal clothes without even taking your shoes off.

>>
>>14910992
My Triumph has braided and the brakes aren't any better or worse than my old BMW with rubber lines desu. That's why I was hesitant to change the brake lines
>>
>>14911002
on 290+mm discs with 4 piston calipers you might notice a difference, otherwise its just going to save you replacing them again later because the braided lines tend to last a lot longer.

Fairings.jpg

I'm in a predicament /dbt/. I'm looking for this fairing for my 07 FZ6, but can't find one. When I look in google images, I see this exact fairing on almost every FZ6, this exact one, but haven't found a single place to buy one. I get that it's a fairing for a 9 year old bike, but nowhere has this, not eBay, not Amazon, and no one mentions where they got it after reverse image searching pictures of it. It IS an FZ6 they're on, not a different bike (As far as I can tell) Is there anywhere else I could look for this fairing, or any fairing in general? It's driving me mad.
>>
Braided lines are a meme and any difference you notice is purely a placebo
Unless you are spending hours on the track, you don't need them
>>
>>14911027
I think that's an FZ6R.

Do you have the model with only the front fairing and want to add one to the side, or you just want to replace your side fairing?
>>
>>14911001
Do they feel less squishy than non-braided? Once braided, never go back.
>>
>>14911038
Yes. They were NOT mushy before but now they're rock-hard. It would take all of my might to squeeze the lever to the bar.
>>
>>14911037
I want to add the fairing to the side. The model I have has only the front fairing, it's essentially exactly the bike on the bottom picture just without the red outlined portion on it.

No. As I was saying I would never be able to squeeze it that far under normal braking circumstances but while sitting still I might be able to if I grab it as hard as I can with both hands.

There are no good scramblers on the market, and as a concept that style of bike wasn't built for anything but riding on a dirt track. They aren't real off road bikes.

Some adventure category bikes are comparable to dual sports as well. The Yamaha XT660 Tenere and BMW G650GS could hold their own against a DR Big.

even if you're at that angle for only a fraction of a second, if you do it enough times you can get rid of your chicken strips without ever actualyl riding well. the only thing i actually respect on tires are the ripples and bumps that signify someone has actually been accelerating hard at any angle and likely using that part of their tire through their whole line, rather than some ricky gofaster dipping it in for a second to try to look cool to his friends.

and even then a big part of me thinks that person is a retard for riding like that on the street.

You can do long-range touring on a dual sport just fine, DR 650 or KLR 650 are great for prices.

the DR650 is good on basically any terrain that any bike can do while having just enough power to comfortably do long distance highway trips (though you'd want a comfier seat for touring all day on it).
If I was gonna be limited to one bike, it'd be a DR650

THe only thing I don't like about the DR650 is that it's air cooled. My past 'adventures' throughout the state before I sold my bike included some city stops (a lot of local stores I like to visit), which includes a lot of traffic. I'm thinking about a KLR for my next bike. But I'm also stuck on getting an sv650 because there are some twisties I enjoy doing on the way to lexington.

It's less to break. The engine's overbuilt for the power it produces, and I've never had any overheating issues with them.

It's possible it's a problem in superheated places, but in Texas city riding it's been fine for me.

BMW's fuel estimates are pretty close to reality, but their listed figure is calculated a bit differently from what other manufacturers typically list. Its not an EPA estimate, or anything similar. Its what the engine will pull at a fixed highway speed, not counting any accelerating, while carrying a nominal load.

I'm curious if it's actually an outdated estimate. Models prior to 2015 sometimes experienced piston ring land breakage because they had them running so lean for those fuel estimates. The fix was an updated fuel map to the ECU to run richer and stop detonation problems.

It's actually a shinko 244, but yes it is chunking a lot on the corners of the knobs from hard braking.

I've been working hard to mastering braking with these tires. Normally I would stoppie way before the front tries to skid, but these require me to weight the front a lot more if I want to brake hard and not slide.

a lot of that area is state forest lands or private commercial forest lands that's been gated off more and more over the years because people shitting it up with trash left everywhere and vandalizing signs, buildings and equipment.
They ruined it for everyone. stupid rednecks.
Sucks, it used to be you could pull off the highway just about anywhere there was a forest road and ride to the top of the mountain and back, over the river and through the woods, all that shit.

For dirt bikes you're right. KTM is king.
However they don't have many options for street bikes, and they aren't top performers in any of those categories so I'll say Honda is probably best there.

The arrival of KKK + a bunch of other shitposters (such as squidanon, who surprise surprise, actually met up with KKK) caused a mass exodus, we used to have threads ever like...hour or so.

Sometimes 5-6 /dbt/ would be in the catalog.

the point i always try to make is that when braking on the street anyway, you are very rarely going to safely be able to apply 100% of your bike's optimal braking force. real world road conditions can make it hard to confidently assess exactly how much brake you should apply. you are going to keep a certain percentage in reserve just because of the nature of riding on the street. that percentage is (most likely) roughly proportional to the percentage of braking power you "lose" to the ABS system in real-world conditions.

and nobody's perfect. it's entirely possible for even veteran riders to grab more brake than they should or not enough. in the latter case ABS doesn't affect you anyway, but in the former it can save your ass, which is kind of the point.

it's not a substitute for learning proper braking, but it's there to cradle your sack if/when you drop the ball, because nobody is perfect in panic situations.

>>
>>14911932
My point is you simply can not learn proper braking if you learn on a bike with ABS, if you ever get on a bike without it after a few years riding nothing but with it you are going to lock the brakes up.

Brake tests should be a regular part of your ride, do you just expect you will be ready when the situation arises?
Prepare yourself for that shit.

also, ABS can outperform even extremely competent riders in the rain, which is also a big selling point. lots of people are really confident braking dry, but many less are as competent as they think they are when the road is wet.

ABS sucks for dirt, true. it's not made for dirt. don't ride dirt with ABS enabled.
>>
>>14911936
I started lurking around the end of those times and thought it was kind of unnecessary. I am sorry that my opinion triggers you
>>
>>14911947
i've been riding for close to 11 years and just got on my first ABS-enabled bike. i find it quite comfy. like i said, it's no substitute for learning proper control of your motorcycle and nobody with a brain tries to say it is or should be. it's a tool in the toolkit, like lots of other things.

>>
>>14911957
I just think its going to get people killed. all fine and dandy if you learn on a bike with it then every bike you ride after that has it but yeah..

You should be able to lock up your back or front wheel on purpose and not crash.

If you cant, go to a dirt road and practice, once you master it on dirt start on road at under 50km/h
>>
>>14911959
you're a disappointment to us all

>>
>>14911970
i think your idea that people just grab handfuls of brake and trust in the ABS is also probably wrong. that's certainly not how i ride, and i can't imagine that any new rider would feel confident enough to just grab as much brake as they can, even with an ABS system. the point of ABS in general isn't to make it a common part of your riding, it's just there to pick up the slack if you fuck up.

The thing I don't like about it is those bumpy/jittering road surfaces. It actually does increase stopping distance on those and it's unnerving to me that "letting go feeling" that the ABS does on those surfaces.
I can make mine less intrusive in "dynamic" ride setting to the point I can skid. It's very intrusive on "rain" and a little less on "road" settings.
ABS made me feel very uncomfortable. I'm better adjusted to it, but I prefer not having it if it's so damn intrusive. Fortunately I can regulate that with this bike. I do think it performs well in the rain on a SMOOTH surface.
