some clutch levers are hard to pull in while others are easier. does it indicate a problem if the clutch is stiff (or loose)? Or is it just different from bike to bike?

Depends on bike. 99.9% of the time its just that the cable isn't adjusted properly. Can be adjusted really close to the lever usually.
>>14884278
i think only having 1 mirror would make me mental
>>14884276
could be a problem, my flatmate's clutch felt stiff and grind-ey, he didn't care but i dug a bit deeper and the cable wasnt sitting in the ...cable...hole...thing on the lever end properly, and was scraping against the tension-adjuster threads. re-jiggered it and its smooth as butter now.

I was surprised when I learned that the Hayabusa is only $15,000 CAD new. Like shit I could finance that now and pay it off by the end of the year if I wasn't gunning for a DR650 and/or a sports car first. Why is it so damn cheap? Why is Suzuki so based?

Nigger, what part of "rear facing camera and speedometer" are you failing to process?
If you don't want that shit, don't buy the helmet. But don't for one second try to pretend that having a 360 degree FOV isn't a great idea.
>>14884513

>>14884353
the benefit is that you can craft an experience which supercedes that which nature has given us. let's outline a hypothetical, advanced AR helmet
>nanometer-thick coating on the inside of your visor displays a heads-up display with all pertinent information relating to the mechanical components of your motorcycle
>in addition, it calculates trajectories of objects in motion around you
>highlights potential dangers and identifies a precautionary route you can take to avoid it
>displays engine speed, temperature and everything right before your eyes without the need to take them off the road
>lasers read your eye movements and can access GUI's in movements faster than your hands ever could, allowing you to make calls, look up routes (with the assistance of integrated microphone)
>identifies potentially erratic drivers based on observed driving patterns you might have missed (weaving back and forth? might be drunk. speeding? could make a dangerous lane switch) in a 360 degree spectrum
>paints dildos on every car and portrays women as if they were shirtless
really, the sky's the limit
>>14884498
>FLIR
This nigger gets it.
>tfw if the thermal imaging is good enough, you can see the heat transferred to the road by vehicles long after they have gone
>huh? who's footprints are these?
>>14884514
>360degree FOV
That already exists by turning your head. The only way to get that without turning your head would to have something like a wide angle lense to cram a large FOV into a small FOV, which makes everything look way to far away.
>>14884539
SNEK? SNEK!? SNEEEEEEEEEEK!!!!!
>>14884541
what a smart system would do is display hazards outside your immediate field of vision in an unobtrusive way -- maybe in the corner of the HUD. it would take some serious techno-wizardry to get humans' brains to natively understand having a 360 degree FOV
>>14884531
>paints dildos on every car and portrays women as if they were shirtless
FUND IT
>>14884530
>>14884541
>The only way to get that without turning your head would to have something like
something like a rear facing wide angle camera projected PIP style onto your hud?
>turning your head increases your FOV
No, nigger. Just no.
>>14884514
>Nigger, what part of "rear facing camera and speedometer" are you failing to process
>look at a screen
>>14884553
but really now that i think about it if the system is perfect, you don't even personally need the 360 degree vision. you just need the system to be able to identify hazards and show you a path to take based on your reaction time. in the event that there's no path you can take it can just tell you that you're fucked and upload a video of you crabwalking naked with your penis in a dress to fagbook or something
>>14884574
>wide angle camera projected PIP style
that would be way to small to see anything more than 20 ft behind you. Just look at gopro footage. It has a camera FOV just slightly wider than normal, yet it's still almost impossible to look at things unless you're right up next to them.
>>14884531
or you could just ride your bike and enjoy the experience.
>>14884592
your visor isn't physically large, but think of how big it seems when you have your helmet on. think of how little you really need to use the absolute bottom corners of your helmet to maintain a safe view of the road. you could probably give up quite a big portion of that safely, or if necessary, re-engineer helmets to give more screen space.

I'm less than 3 seconds away from this road sign, and you can't even read it because the wide angle lens makes it so small. Even if you move close to your big ass computer screen it will still be hard to see it. Now imagine that being projected onto a tiny little frame so close to your eye you can't even focus on it. You definitely won't be able to read it. However when just looking at it directly with your eyes from that distance it would appear perfectly fine.
Wide angle lenses are shit and can never work nearly as well as a human eye.

Your anecdote is nice, but it is proven to significantly increase your visibility and decrease your risk of crashing.

the hurt report is more than 30 years old champ. i'd never argue that you shouldn't have your headlight on, however the findings are basically anecdotal from interviews of riders who 1) haven't crashed saying they wear hi-viz and 2) old ladies who ran off bikers not wearing hi-viz reporting they never saw them.
i'm not suggesting more visibility hurts, i'm just saying in all my riding the best way to avoid an accident is proactive defense ie ASSUME that the fucktard at the T-intersection is going to pull out. To each their own.

Just in case anyone is following, my klr ninja 650 hybrid in now rideable. First impressions? This thing frigging goes. Its a strange feeling, a klr that wants to wheelie like mad. Still needs a bunch of tweaking and finishing up but all in all its the embodiment of awesome.

Mine is new, so I can't say just yet. I've heard a lot of mixed reviews, but the consensus from owners has been that the newer models from 2009 on, especially those made within the last couple of years, are quite durable. They're not on par with Japanese bikes, but you don't have to worry about constant breakdowns any more.
I've found a lot of the "bad rep" rumors about Royal Enfield to have been untrue or misleading. Mine is still at least two-thousand miles from being broke in, but the vibrations I get at 70mph are minor. It's an incredibly steady and well-balanced little bike, accelerates fast enough to throw me far ahead of traffic, and can keep up and pass at reasonable speeds without any hiccups. On top of that, it's very noticeable - I got a couple of compliments from college students while I was stopped at some signs and lights driving around Michigan State University today.
Regardless of whether or not it holds up, they aren't very hard to fix and it's a joy to ride around country roads like no other. It works just fine on freeways and 55mph state stretches, but it's an absolute wonder out in the sticks.
I bought mine because I really couldn't see myself being happy right now with any other make and model. Driving my RE has just made me more confident that I made the right choice (plus, I have a mechanic within walking distance of my house, in case I do break down!).

I always understood high-vis gear to be useless in the daytime and little help at night compared to brighter head/taillights and maybe lights on the chassis of the motorcycle. Is that "wrong"?
That thought process came from reading things like this:
>I Didn't See You
"Most of the high-mileage riding friends I know roll their eyes at the conspicuity stuff. 'Friends don't let friends wear pink vests,' they would sneer. Perhaps the veterans have a more realistic understanding of the I-didn't-see-you myth. Conspicuity devices are based on the assumption that the other guy will get out of your way if he can only see you. The veterans know that avoiding collisions depends on being prepared to get out of the way of the other guy, whether he sees you or not.
Inattentional Blindness
>Psychology research has uncovered an interesting phenomenon that relates to the I-didn't-see-you excuse. It seems that humans are subjected to so much incoming information that one part of the brain serves as sort of a subconscious mental "spam filter." The filter passes on to the conscious part of the brain only information that corresponds to what the person is concerned about, or what the psychologists call attending to. The flipside of that is that if the driver is not concerned about something (say, motorcycles), the spam filter may delete the image. So it really can be true that a driver looks right at you and sees you, but your image gets filtered out and never gets to the conscious part of the driver's brain. That would explain how a driver might not comprehend a motorcyclist wearing a high-visibility jacket and the bike flashing its headlight - or, for that matter, a freight train with a flashing headlight and blaring air horn.

I'll also add that the awestruck looks of Indian immigrants make the Royal Enfield worth the $5,000. The Bullet 500 in particular is a huge favorite over in South Asia (I have a C5) but is rare enough here in the States that I've never seen another Enfield on the road, ever.
I'm commuting to work on my RE. Some Indian guy almost ran into a pole while staring.

Distracted drivers aren't going to see you because you're wearing neon yellow. People pick up size and shape better than color in their periphery. You are not the shape or size of another car, so they do not see you as readily. Thats all it comes down to.
>>14884940
did you read what was quoted? it explicitly says the opposite of that.
>it really can be true that a driver looks right at you and sees you, but your image gets filtered out and never gets to the conscious part of the driver's brain. That would explain how a driver might not comprehend a motorcyclist wearing a high-visibility jacket and the bike flashing its headlight
>>14884933
That thing has to be mental as shit. You going to put super moto wheels/tires on or knobbies?
What is your "hearts desire" bike? That bike that screams trouble, but you want anyway.
>Pic is mine

>>14884915
Before the swap yes. Tons.
I live on a dirt road so theres that too.
I need new rubber before i think of playing offroad with it now. I still need to build a crash pan and modify the drain on the oil pan.
>>14884465
>I don't get on a bike to talk on my phone, read the news, update social media, shitposting on 4weebs or look at a screen.
That is the first intelligent thing I've heard you say, ever.
>>14884959
>super moto wheels/tires on or knobbies?
I would expect neither of those. The ninja would be better than a KLinja on tard tires. The KLR would be better than the KLinja for offroading on knobbies.

yup. Put the new bearings in the shock and new swingarm today. Also welded my kickstand tab back on.
My air box is cracked pretty good though so I want to take that out and fix/replace it now. I think I'll have to take the subframe off to get it out so I think I might need to leave the shock off for now. We'll see.
>Parts catalogue is possibly incorrect, so they sent me unsealed bearings for my brake pedal.
I need to wait for those replacements as well.

I am a 5'6" manlet. What bike would be a good size for me. Please don't say scooters.
Any recommendations on leather jackets? I only have a textile right now but I really want/need a leather one.
Right now I'm looking at the Dainese Racing D1 perforated leather jacket.
It might be overkill and it isnt cheap ($600) but I know I'd be getting a quality jacket. The biggest thing that has me hesitant is that I assume this is molded for being crouched down on a sport bike and I ride a Husa fs570
Thoughts?

Totally.
I'm not even really frustrated with it for needing repairs. I knew the air box was cracked before I bought it, and the bearings are no big deal. They've gone way past the normal service life for a dirt bike anyway.
>found some extra seals after I had already finished installing the bearings
Everything seemed right. I wonder if they were extra or if I forgot them somewhere.

My opinion on big bikes for beginners is always the same, if you have a decent guide, and a decent knowledge of manual transmissions, you'll be fine. That does however, factor in that you're tall enough to reach the ground with both feet. But if you're tall enough, have a guide, and know how to take off, there's literally no problem. You'll just learn, maybe wear the clutch a bit, and be cautious just like you would in a powerful car you're not accustomed to.

No woman is ever worth ruining a helpless and innocent baiku.
I separated from my wife a while ago, thought about blowing my brains out for a while, nearly did it winter of 2014. Where I am now I see how ridiculous that was. She wasn't worth it. I went through a brief phase a couple weeks ago where I really missed her, couldn't quit thinking about her when I beat off, and it was really getting to me. Then I remembered what a train wreck of a person she was. Problem solved.

Thing is, she has a boyfriend who she spends an ass-ton of money flying to Europe to visit, so I dunno what's up.

Also accidentally ran from the cops, but neither here nor there. People can handle a big bike.
>>14885405
It's neat and all to start on something little, if you have confidence issues, but if you're a good driver you should be issue free. Remember, bikes these days are OBDII, they go from 1%throttle, all the way up to 100%. Just use the little numbers, then ease up to the big ones. It's not the old days where throttles stepped from 0 to 20 to 60 to 100 with no in between.

It's extremely easy. You'd have to have a learning disability to fail. Nearly everyone in my class got 100% or close to it on the written, and only 1 person failed the practical.
Just remember to look far into your turns, especially on the box.

Well, just recorded and hour and a half of my gauges. Camera won't aim up any further, this will be interesting to fix. I missed the awesome scooter wheelie I saw.

Life is pretty hard when your GF of three years cheats on you with a close friend of yours and you move to another state where he's the only person in the state you know because you both work at the same company and you get to see him all the time and get to hear through the grape vine that she's travelling 6 hours to said state to come visit him.
I'm getting salty just thinking about it. I'm not going to talk about this anymore.

As someone that spends a lot of time driving lots of different vehicles, the mirrors that get the least use of all are the ones on my bike. They are too small and too far away to see shit properly, they vibrate like hell, and there are no pillars or seats to block my view anyway, so it really is super easy to just head check.

What?

I wear one of these matey. Feels comfy as fuck, cosy jacket and armour. Haven't had to ride it in actual wet yet (Ausfag) but it is a great jacket I think. Not really moulded into any shape, I can sit upright on my bike without it digging in anywhere. Dainese are great brand so if you like the look and ergos go for it.

would be ok if not for:
The rider
The paint
The headlight surround (is that a predator mask?)
The stretched swingarm
>stretching swingarms
Really nigger? Do you think you know more about suspension geometry than a team of suzuki engineering nerds?
Looking at an 04 cbr600rr, 55000k's.
Anything I should pay close attention to when seeing the bike?

>assless chaps

They're just chaps. All chaps are assless.
I swear we've been through this.

Posing his motorcycle
Taking photos
Standing all alone
>>14885891
>assless chaps
I think people say it because it sounds gayer. Probably something to do with Village People or Judas Priest.
>>14885684
That sucks bro.
>close friend of yours
Like hell.
>>14885668
Cruisercucks do that and also kkk.
>>14885926
>gayer than chaps
The only thing gayer than chaps is two dudes having gay sex while wearing chaps
Gen 1 KLR or gen 2 KLR?
Wannabe rider here, and cafe racers interest me. Has anyone had any experience with any of Cleveland Cyclewerks bikes? I kinda like the idea of buying American, but am not married to it.
