I had a lot of fun last time, so here's another daily craigslist thread.

Last thread is located at >>14848278

This thread is for those of you who wish to be spoonfed.
>how it works
You tell me where you are, preferably linking your local CL in the post.
You inform me of your min/max budget
You tell me if you want auto/manual.
I can work with just a max budget and an area, but without specifics I'll be reaching in the dark.
>Disclaimer
I'm not well-versed in things that aren't sedans, coupes, convertibles, or hatchbacks (occasionally wagons).
I have shit taste, and it will show in what I suggest.
Enjoy!

>>14856750
I honestly would watch for the mileage on that baby, 220,000 miles is a big beast, salvage titles never bother me that much, I have a buddy who's a mechanic and I give him meals at my restaurant 50% off every time he looks at a car for me.
A salvage title can mean the car is either fucked or the owner wasn't organized, what I mainly watch out for is heavy aftermarket (especially forced induction) and engine swaps (especially engines that weren't in there originally, as opposed to a rebuild)
>>
>>14856783
Ah I see. I guess I'll have to get more mechanic-savvy then. I don't really know where to start since I don't have many friends and none who are into cars
>>
>>14856805
>step 1 - find shop
>step 2 - walk in
>step 3 - ask for a mechanic
>step 4 - explain, ask if you can have him check the car out
>step 5 - see if he wants to come with you or have you bring the car to him
>step 6 - ???
>step 7 - Profit (even though you will probably have to pay the mechanic for his time)

If you don't like a mechanic, find another one.
Don't be afraid to come back multiple times.
Build a relationship with him and eventually he'll do it for a case of beer.
>>
>>14856824
or he'll be a greedy fucker and charge you every time. who knows.

I was in your shoes too mate, all my friends are into cars but aren't into getting down and dirty and working on them.
they love it when I put a new BOV on but not a single one of them could be trusted to change a tire correctly.
>>
>>14856824
I've been to several mechanics and they always try to rip me off. I usually get a simple service done. One was to change a mirror out on my xb (the whole fixture including motor) and he said it'd be 240$ for the part and 60$ for labor. I got the part off of amazon for $44 and installed it in 5 minutes. Other shops.. similar stuff. My A/C went out once and one shop fixed it but it kept going out and they wouldn't fix it again etc. I'm pretty unlucky or I don't know where to go...

nah mate, it's part of the process. most people do this to make a killing off other people's ignorance, those are the people you want to avoid in the first place.
Thats the kind of guy who won't properly inspect things because of this exact train of thought.

>well, if I pretend to not see it there's no way he could be aware it was there.
>well, if I don't check and say it's fine how will he know the difference? he's still paying me

It might take a minute or two, you might lose a hundred bucks. you might lose 3.
but they are out there man, just have hope.
pay attention to body language. is he interested in you? if not, what is he interested in? if he's staring at the wall behind you, he's likely not trustworthy. If he's pre-occupied with finishing off what he's currently doing, buy that man an ice cream and leave him with your kid, it'll be fine.

do I make sense or am I rambling?
>>
>>14856902
It makes sense. I think it's just hard for me. I really want to get into building a drift car and I've made a few threads on it but I can hardly lift a wrench. I guess I'll have to look around for one. I wish I went to UTI instead of going to college...
>>
>>14856471
hey man, if you aren't using searchtempest, you should. it will revolutionize your CL searches.
>>
>>14856925
The resources exist man, you just have to get really into them.
Make a throwaway facebook account and see about getting into a few car groups on social media, use that as anonymity to build your knowledge without embarrassing yourself. Learn about driving the traditional way - where you only break grip under extreme circumstances (many many books available on this), and now you know what -not- to do if you want to drift.
Does it ice over where you live? Rain heavily?
Practice sliding then.
And as sad as I am to say it, play some video games. These days they'll offer tuning options, especially for suspension settings.
that's exactly how I learned the basics of suspension tuning, was playing Dirt Rally.
>>
>>14856945
Interesting. I live in California so not much rain ... I've owned 2 RWD cars but right now I have an xB as a placeholder car until I find something I like but I don't even know what I like anymore or what to look for
>>
>>14856934
I use autotempest for my personal searches, and when looking for specific cars it is indeed a blessing.
mostly however you end up with things you weren't looking for when giving it broad parameters, and considering I try to avoid dealership/buy here pay here ads, it doesn't really make sense for me to have to screen thrice as many places for maybe five more results.

>as well as the fact that autotempest links CL ads that are already removes/expired

this is a spoonfeeding thread, if anons want to take it upon themselves to use it, I congratulate them.

>>14856973
>cali
I wish I lived nearby cali. wouldn't want to live there, mind you, but the roads being so nice sounds like an urban legend compared to Texas.

But you also have access to one of the biggest localized car scenes in North America, it might be worth it to find some like-minded people and bounce ideas off their heads.
>>
>>14856990
Yeah, I like to go to a lot of the car meets but I park far away and walk there since my car is sort of beat up. I've owned some nice cars in the past though. The cars are much more expensive here compared to other states.
>>
>>14857005
iktf
but yeah dude, just try to get out there, talk, listen more, find out what's good and what's not.
>driving a scion xB
I'd make it a sick sleeper if I were you lad, something about an Xbox that can walk away from evos and foxbodies just turns me on in all the right places.
>>
>>14857022
Yeah I really love the xB it's just the car has been hit several times by people in the parking lot (while I wasn't even in my car). Also the previous owner lowered it on eibachs and it's missing a side skirt.
