It was based as fuck, one of the best series. but it is quite dumb how von does not want to run superspeedways in the series even though people here seem to have fun on them at the pickups just because of some nascar memes.

So instead of allowing us to have a fun race he decides to throw out all the rules just so he can make sure we don't run superspeedways.

allowing for someone who have no oval experince to come in and cause incidents cause they have not ran in packs before >>14453679

and people who no one like that just come race here to prove points and make drama.

I don't think this is an orginising issue. iirc Von said this exhibition served to see whether if ovg could handle superspeedways(which it didn't). Von has laid out a decent league, with a lot of planning. The driving is what is lacking, and the fact he allowed James to participate, reminding us the reason why he is banned from mumble, as he started talking shit and generally being miserable towards ovg having an turnleft league, because we wasted 2 of his precious hours he spent into practising alabama. I bet the only reason he participated was because he wanted to show us how it's done with a "cheap toy wheel" etc. and then tell us that this league is doomed and make an article in his blog. But he didn't count for indy triggering him.

Thank you indy.

If we don't run Superspeedways, this series is pointless.
As an AMERICAN CITIZEN, I demand superspeedways on the calendar. It is simply not turnleft without them. Not racing them is self-defeating. We won't get any better at superspeedways if we avoid racing superspeedways, will we?
RF2 Talledega is FAR more challenging than in any other sim I've played, and it's refreshing to actually have to put effort into turning left when NR2003 let me do it so easily.

Last night was a lot of fun (imo) and the only reason it got old was because we still don't know how to tune the safety car, so 4 laps for a two-car crash was excessive. Reminder it was supposed to be 3 lap yellows.

Also we were clearly racing more aggressively because it's a non-points race, but there was also a shitter ruining everything.
This was not a particularly accurate test and the data should be ignored, we should run super speedways, and /ovg/ race series should never be easy mode.

also /dogrally/ fucking when

so like, Katsuo crashed since he still can't drive properly in a pack of cars, STIguy who should not be there, was there and fucked up the place...and everyone is getting blamed for that ?
>>
>>14454751
Von does clearly not want to run super speedways, thus he won't give it an honest test.
>>
>>14454797

STI didn't even cause a crash that's the funny thing
>>
>>14454751
I agree. If Von would just fucking man up and enforce the rules he agreed to before the series even started (namely keeping people that haven't demonstrated they can pack race safely out of the series) we could have an actually fun turnleft league. Superspeedways are great as long as you keep shitters out.

>>14454797
Katsuo's lag was off the fucking charts. It doesn't matter if he can drive or not, his connection/computer is too unstable to let him in anymore. Sucks for him, but why would we let one person ruin it for everyone else?

And this STIguy meme is definitely the least funny forced meme in /ovg/ history. Everyone spreading it should gas themselves.

He caused a crash on the first attempt at the race that fucked up some people pretty badly, but after people for whatever reason gave that whiny bitch James his way and restarted I don't think any more crashes were his fault. I assume ATS to be as accurate in displaying the US as ETS2 is accurate in displaying European countries, which is not at all apart from correctly colored road markers. >who have no oval experince to come in
I have oval experience from outside ovg, I just made one bad decision in that pack (I ran with everyone else fine the rest of the time), and had a lot of trouble hearing my spotter because I have my sound volume balanced assuming I don't have retards screaming in my ear, and I didn't realise how badly it was fucked until we got into the race.
>>
>>14455492

>Not making the spotter louder than VOIP

You goofed
>>
>>14455510
I didn't plan to be in mumble at all, and I had to fuck with my volume levels to be able to hear my engine over it, so I'm not sure why I then couldn't hear my spotter. People yelled louder in the race? Either way it gave me a few hairy moments and for long stretches of time I forgot I even had a spotter, which is probably why I didn't process that it was screaming INSIDE INSIDE at me when I caused that crash.
>>
>>14454462
He's just an asshole who just doesnt give a shit so it works great for running a series in /ovg/
>>
>>14455391
I wasn't talking about 1:1 scale, I was merely hoping for a slightly less dense map. It takes several hours to cross Europe in ETS2, and that was a finished game on launch. In a way ATS really does feel like a rushed reskin. Small starting map, only two truck models barring modifications, sometimes the GPS map still shows European style intersections even though the actual road layout is completely different, for example east of LA.
>>
>This entire shit storm

Holy shit guys it was an exhibition race calm the fuck down.

The driver approval thing will go into effect for points races only. Katsuo will not be allowed to run points races until he gets better equipment, sorts out his internet, and demonstrates he can run ovals with no problem.

I didn't see STI's incident so if you guys have seen something that you feel warrants a suspension or something, make a webm of it off the server replay and post it here. The way everyone was shouting I had just assumed it was a joke and STI hadn't done anything. If he did, post the webm and the lap number.

If you guys want to run superspeedways, you need to take the driving a little more seriously. The race yesterday pretty much devolved into a complete shit fest after 2 or 3 laps and it was clear everyone had stopped giving a shit. If you guys want to do plate racing and you want it to work, you have to MAKE it work. All the organizing in the world isn't going to make a plate race clean if the drivers in it can't be bothered to at least try clean racing.

Give me feedback and I can make changes to make this thing work. Don't shout memes at me and then wonder why I'm ignoring you.

You inforced the rules at the test races. Why not at the race that saw if we could run super speedways or not?

How are we supposed to do that when you don't in force your rules, and allow people who are just want to cause drama to race? We did great in the pickup races at talledaga. We also did fine racing once all the shit heads left yesterday.

No I specifically DIDN'T enforce that rule at the test races. In fact I actively encouraged people who'd never done turnleft before to show up to the test races to get some practice. Von isn't a fundamentally bad series organizer. I lurk these threads every once in a while and he's not really doing anything wrong.

The problem arises with /ovg/ itself. This is NOT the same place it used to be. You are a fool if you think otherwise. All of the good drivers who took online racing semi-seriously:

>practicing for an hour or two each day leading up to the race
>treating the event with an ounce of importance

...all these guys have either left or been chased away. The result is that the field consists of meme lords who couldn't give a shit whether we were playing rFactor 2 or Burnout Paradise. They aren't really here to race, just to hang out and shout stupid shit on Mumble while frequently bouncing off walls and thinking this qualifies as "racing".

It doesn't. Racing simulators are only enjoyable if people are actually trying to race.
>>
>>14456519
>>
>>14456519
I hate to say it, but I agree with James. The guys who took their racing seriously have either left, stopped putting the effort in, or no longer have the time due to real life. Of course, a good driver doesn't need much time in a car he knows at a track he knows to reacquaint himself, or even learn a new track, but the less good guys aren't even doing the practice they need. The ovg servers are a ghost town recently.

I actually get paid to run events at my local sim center. Now compared to me, everybody is slow as shit - hence why I willingly step aside and officiate. But the nights are always fucking awesome because people actually put in the time and effort to practice. There's never that one guy 4 seconds off-pace helplessly bouncing off the walls and shouting dumb shit over the headset.

Half the dudes that show up are old guys with real world experience looking to try these newfangled "vidya gaems", the other half are Forza/Assetto Corsa kids. Pretty much everyone leaves with mutual respect for one another. Last night's race ended around 10pm, and everyone stuck around for something like 90 minutes afterwards just bullshitting with each other.

/ovg/ doesn't have that crowd. They're all gone. No idea why there's a continued push for organized series when the people who made these series worth showing up to aren't around anymore.

Perhaps you should stop scaring them off then.

I'll probably get bashed on to shit for this but James is right here.

/ovg/ used to be different, it used to be smaller. I started lurking and posting semi-regularly to regularly when James first started /ovg/ what, coming on 3 years ago then? We were a closer knit group of people. We didn't have mumble or a wiki but it was okay. Tripfagging was somewhat acceptable due to the nature of the place and we had fun. Hell, it was the first /ovgt3/ race at Laguna Seca that properly got this whole Saturday night race series going.

Since then we've had /ovgt3/ Seasons 1 + 2, /ovgsc/, /ovgtp/, /ovgtouge/, /ovgF1/ Seasons 1 + 2, /ovgF3/, /ovgSM/ and /ovgRYOSB/. We also had the first /ovgt6/ series which started with the Megane cup cars at Apricot Hill, spawning pic related and then GT300's at Bathurst, Redbull Juniors at Trial Mountain and then whatever the hell we did after that.

We've done a huge amount together but these days, I think we've peaked. I pulled back around the time of /ovgtp/ due to work, the end of that is pretty much when I got taken on full time. Other people have pulled back or even out due to work, life, school or they've been chased out, like Cosmo or SJ.

Unfortunately too many people here now are trying to be 'le funny memers', forcing the James impersonation meme or the other shit we've had. Some worked and stuck, such as variations on Britfag Americano's name or 'Paltala is a Furfag' (Love you Bob), but some of this shit is forced and unfunny.

/ovg/ isn't the same and unfortunately, it won't be. It's not for a lack of trying on the part of people such as VonMolkte or Src and Blackdog with the Turn left and GT6 series respectively. /ovg/ changed, and it probably won't change back.

Not everyone is willing or have the time to invest as much time to sim-racing as you do. If the level of racing is not up to your standard, that's the point when you either search for better community or coach the one you're in. You certainly haven't done anything but mostly cause drama in threads and in mumble over the years.
>>14456633
>Explaining why your opinion matters
<Cognitive bias
>People who made these series worth showing up to aren't around anymore.
<Cognitive bias, personal experience as you find no joy outside of challenging yourself sim-racing wise within the community
>>14456964
>Go into length how everything was better when it was just a small group
<Of course it felt better because you felt part of it and nobody would criticise another since everyone was rather new to each other and had no long term history apart from a few who already knew each other
>Tripfagging was somewhat acceptable
<It's never been acceptable to use your trip to give your argument any validation, it's poor form.
> Other people have pulled back or even out due to work, life, school or they've been chased out, like Cosmo or SJ.
<SJ left because of James who ironically complains about the shit quality of the community while making it worse.
<Cosmo left likely because certain people would take things way too personally and turn against just to win an argument.
>Unfortunately too many people here now are trying to be 'le funny memers'
<Everyone is a funny memer to an extent, don't try to label an unidentified group of people who you could roll the blame on. James impersonation IS funny because of the aforementioned actions by him.
>some of this shit is forced and unfunny.
<Like your screenshot spam and shills?

A lot of people in /ovg/ and especially on mumble are clearly not from socially stable backgrounds and have their personal issues, but you can't force your personal preference of your ideology, how communities should be run or what your preferred pronoun is.

yeah I agree. It's a compromise you'll never find the perfect single player. I have to use multiple games to fulfill my needs. There's certain go-to games I prefer for certain disciplines/categories of racing.

I don't have that much experience at Rfactor. I mostly play arcade racing games or borderline sim-cade games. pCARS & AC looked interesting at first for the graphics and car-list. (Shallow reasons I know). So sim racing is a recent concept for me. Like games where you need to use actual throttle control and brake control not 'ABS'.
I try to train myself not to rely too much on the restart function in the game; and try to get a whole race and everything done in one shot. Like doing standing starts and controlling the wheelspin, safety car, pit lane entry etc. and just try to build up some consistency and keep it on the asphalt.

I should have just said class. It's more seats and provides more opportunities for drivers to go racing. IMSA's whole approach is that it's supposed to be low-cost affordable racing overall compared to WEC and ELMS.
hey at least something partially survived the ALMS and got absorbed into IMSA/Tudor. I don't know exactly how that split in sportscar racing happened but in the history of IMSA they used to have cool prototypes that would run at Daytona. but now their prototype situation is all screwed up. DPs were a bad idea and now they're finally supposed to be getting rid of them.

in GT6 is there much reason to do the 'coffee break' events? hitting 300 cones in a miata in under 30 seconds is ridiculous.

In Rfactor being able to leave the garage, and have full control down the pit lane and have to hit the pit limiter is awesome, I wasn't used to that. I wish other games like pCARS were like that and give you full control in the pit lane.

I think GT4 was the last game to have the unaltered 130R and Porsche Curves at La Sarthe. pCARS has the modern version with the walls in Porsche Curves pushed back to make it even more flat out.

it's a glitch that happens when you use lap modifier codes. The race automatically finishes at the laps you set it at. sometimes turning on too many codes can glitch out the replays too.

They can scan trough your computer and sell your personal information for third parties, it's in their EULA:
http://forums.mariosworld.org/showthread.php?p=537

If you check with system process monitor Origin.exe it accesses a lot of unnecessary and unrelated system registry files and scans trough message logs of some programs.

>>14461487
>>14461496
On the surface it seems the same but it's the most intrusive out of the three.
>>
>>14461643

Valve monitor every website you connect to as part of their anti-cheat (as a lot of cheats use authentication servers so they can't be pirated), yet you don't complain about that
>>
>>14461660
If someone from Valve looked at what websites I connect to, they'd be very, very confused.
>>
>>14461660
Wrong. It monitors outgoing connections to authentication servers of the cheats, it doesn't monitor your website connections. It checks from an existing list of addresses of the known authentication servers to see if the user is using the cheat. This was explained about 1 or 2 days after the news hit that Steam is checking your connections.

It's different from scanning your personal files and selling that information to third parties.
>>
>>14461666

It monitors every connection, also the Origin thing was proved bullshit a long time ago when that guy claimed it was looking at his tax returns
>>
>>14461660
>>14461666
that was removed very quickly
it checked dns records and attempted to match them to cheats' authentication servers
>>
>>14461675
No, it doesn't. Just use wireshark and see for yourself. The tax return part was bullshit, but otherwise it does scan your sysreg.

In real life multi-class is an undesired necessity to fill fields because of the cost of the faster classes. As such most people also recognize that without the other classes they wouldn't be racing and have some degree of respect.

In sim racing it's totally arbitrary and everybody hates each other.

Back in the 80s Le Mans and the World Sportscar Championship was all prototypes, because there was that many prototypes, GT cars only got brought back as filler.
