I currently don't know. Tire sizes will be a 245/40r18 in the front and 285/35r18 in the rear. I'm too poor to afford a premium set of UHP summers in those sizes at the same time as I'm buying the wheels, so I'm looking at some more affordable options until I'm ready for the next set of tires. Probably going to have a budget of $500ish for the set if I get those Ramblers at the same time.

The metal spring inside is to prevent kinking when bent at extreme angles. If your hose doesn't have some 90 degree bends in it then go ahead and remove it

So I took off my carb that was leaking like crazy. Like 250 ml of gas came pouring out of it when I took it out and moved it around. Is that normal? Do carbs normally retain gas after they car has been shut off and sitting? I figured it should've drained down the engine.

Probably like a good 2 weeks. And it was a lot. I'm guessing the carb needed a rebuild and it was clogging or something since fuel was just pouring out of every orifice that it shouldn't.

Fuel was coming out of where that top screw is in the picture. And also from the fuel inlet nut. It was bad....

I think this is dependent on what kind of classic you drive. I imagine if you drive an easily recognizable and appreciated classic like a Camaro or whatnot, it will be more appreciated by normies than something relatively obscure.

Carbs don't 'drain'. The fuel sits in the float bowls until you start the car the next time. That's why it's not good to leave them sit for long periods, because the evaporating gas varnishes everything.

That's a two-stage power valve that's typically only used in fuel economy oriented carbs like the 4180. It opens partially at something like 12inHg and fully at 6.5inHg. The idea is you can use leaner jets than normal for light cruise and the partial opening covers the need for more fuel than that but still less than the power mixture of the fully open PV. A normal PV will work just fine but you'll likely have to run the primary jet sizes up around 4-6 or so or it'll stumble a bit when you're accelerating from a roll

I don't have many good pics of my cutlass. Just got it put away for winter after a week of insanely confusing carb and starter problems.

Thanks! The paint is awesome everywhere but the hood around the scoop, when I first got it I got in a fender bender and had to have basically the whole front end re-painted. They did a great color match to the old paint but around the scoop and a few other spots on the hood its cracking and chipping bad now.

They weren't even that bad anyway, it's just a 283 with a 327 crank, the main issue is the heads, the 2bbl carb and the wimpy cam. Replace those 3 things and you can make 1hp/cu pretty easy

nah, I'm not too fussed about losing money though. It was $800. I want to get it running smooth, replace the windscreen, and make the interior liveable before I "flip" it. My issue with the 400 is the weight, and getting it to make the same power as an LS based motor would, with injection, would run about the same amount of money anyway.

I'm pretty settled on an LS based engine, I just need to figure out which one at this point. Although first that requires figuring out exactly how much I can milk out of selling the big block. There's a local engine builder who specializes in drag motors, I'm going to go chat him up in the Spring when I can start driving it again. The waiting is killing me.

Welding is the easy part, doing the panel beating is the time consuming bit. His bondo work was probably ok for awhile but you only need a small point of failure for it to get out of hand quickly. Shit even your car sitting in the sun on a hot day can cause it to start failing. It's fine for a stop gap or just on a beater car but if you are going to keep the car for a length of time or respray def think about it.

Look for a Full size car. An example of a good inexpensive option is the Chrysler C Body or Imperial. That includes the Plymouth Fury, Grand Fury, Dodge Monoco, Chrysler New Yorker and 300, and of course imperial. Other advantages of the Full size cars is most were a factory big block (383-440) and were not ran like a drag car. My classic. 1967 Jeepster Commando, it has a 225 Oddfire Buick, 3 speed manual and according to something I saw online, a 4.88 rear gear. My grandpa bought it brand new.

Exactly right. There were B (standard deck) and RB (raised deck) big blocks. The B series was the 350, 361, 383, and 400. RB was 383 (uncommon) 413, 426 "wedge" and the 440.

For headers I went with Heddman, only longtubes that would fit and they rattle on the T bar at idle.

I actually traded a gun for it (pic related). I paid 650 for the gun and just didn't want to fire it due to age. I put a battery in the Fury, added a tank of premium, adjusted the ignition timing by sound, and started doing burnouts. Guy that sold ne the car included towing it to my house for 100 and he was pissed (Car had vapor lock on a 100* day and a flat battery, would NOT stay running in gear at all)

The RB design was a casting design giving the block a higher deck allowing for a longer stroke. Cannot be added at all, but 440s are cheap as dirt.

I do highly recommend headers over the factory manifolds. I had planned on swapping headers because the factory manifolds are very very restrictive, as was the smaller exhaust. I run the headers, to a 5"-3" collector, to electric dumps just behind the front tires, 2.75" reducer to factory mufflers for quietness. The headers alone (before I added the dumps and larger pipes) gave me 23lb/ft of torque and 43 hp. And most other RBs aee similar results. Your 360 LA would benefit, maybe not as much but a good bit, so id do I unless you have decided on a swap.
I did kind of steal it. Was a 1 owner car sold by the guys son to me. Was just meant to happen.

I have mine running true duals, no H pipe. The sound is awesome with the cam i'm running at the moment.

The body is totally solid and barring some surface rust on the spring shackles and a nickel sized rust bubble I took care of in the passenger rear sail, its rust free. The front bumper is a bit rough, but I don't worry as much about cosmetics as much. Interior is complete and close to perfect as is, but the chrome around my headlight, e brake release, and wiper switch is a bit pitted. I'll break down and buff them soon, but i may electroplate them burgundy chrome if I do refresh them.

Yes and no. You can find cheapish 65 barracudas, but usually i6, and price increases exponentially when they're in good condition. 66 Chargers are a bit squarish IMO, I think the 69 deserves its acclaim. 66s are generally much cheaper than the 69, but still more expensive than most classics. Think 6k for a good base, 10k and up for a daily driver.

Consider the drivetrains as well, the 65 barracuda never had the 318 or 340. The 67 is the best both looks-wise and considering the 318 was an option. I don't know about the Charger drive train but I'm sure you can wiki it.

I got the passenger side rocker arm rail back on since I got the new push rod. Alternator and power steering pump are back on, valve covers back on and all I need now is to put the radiator back in, but I'm not sure if I want to put the old one back in or buy a new one.

I could get the north star performance kit installed (probably about $4500, parts and labor), or even get a Jasper rebuild ($8500, parts and labor) if I was REALLY into the car. It's the most comfortable thing I've ever driven; being 6'1", that's important to me. However, after sitting down and having a long, hard think, it isn't really the one I want. I've been driving it around for a little over a year now, carefully watching the heat gauge, constantly refilling anti-freeze and oil, and I've dumped more money into it in this past year than I care to remember to keep it running, and this is without even tackling that main problem mentioned above.

I've been tossing the idea around for awhile. Early to I'd 70s stepside chevy. Late 60 to early 70 chevelle. It will be my daily driver. Keep the stock 350 but swap on an EFI kit. Possibility of a 700r4 swap or at least a TH350 trans. Disc brake conversion at least on the front points. Upgrade or at least replace suspension components that are worn. Now, would anyone be able to give me a est mpg. Any problems aside from rust and unreliability due o carb when it's cold out.

H pipe and X pipe will get more HP due to evening out the exhaust pulses over true dual. I prefer the true dual sound and besides headers, exhaust won't bottleneck power until very high power levels. Pipe diameter has more of an affect.

If I remember, X is better too end, H low, H has a more rumbling sound, X is more exotic

If you are resonance tuning your exhaust you would get a minimal gain with an H or X pipe as it changes the harmonics and airflow characteristics. I prefer the sound of true duals, ran an H pipe on the 64 Dart I had and saw little difference power wise. The exhaust note was a bit different as well but both sound nice. Another thing I considered with the Fury was the amount of bending I was going to have to do to place the X pipe in a serviceable location. After having to cut and reweld the H pipe everytime I changed my exhaust config, I decided no more crossover pipes unless I was willing to weld flanges onto the crossover piping and have it unbolt from the short pipe running from the dumps to the crossover. That way, it would essentially make two axleback exhausts and a center section making upgrades and exhaust swaps easier.

Novas aren't camaros. You can still find original unmolested grandma cars. Granted, those tend to be the ugliest. Green with Ugly green vinyl or plaid interior. And usually have straight 6s.

73-74 are a bit cheaper and uglier, but you can get a decent driver for $3-5k in my area since they aren't so sought after. They can also be modified to look like 68-72.

A decent 68-72 can be had for around 5k too if you look and wait. I got a mostly unmodified 307 for $2k, however it is turning into a complete resto since damn near everything is junk.

So the P1800 was sold, that was fast. I'm thinking of Bel Air with a 350 and Muncie 4spd for my next project.

Long story short is that I want both a truck and a car but I can only have one. That is, unless I can find the other for extremely cheap. This 66 F100 is for sale around here, he wants 2400. I was thinking 1500, it needs carb work and parking brake cables, but the interior is mint and he says it's a 360 or a 390. What ya guys think

well the fact that the heater core hose' are cut off makes it seem the heater core is dead.
The 390 and 360 are the exact same engine, except for the crankshaft and connecting rods, so you can't tell from looks.
If it's the original engine, you could the the "vin" and search it up to find out the engine.

If it smokes, these engine are easy to rebuild if you have the equipment and whole entire rebuild kits are cheap, $350-$500

327 ft/lbs @ 2600 RPM (NET)
I can't find the exact specs for the 390, but I'd guess maybe around 260 hp and 370 ft/lbs
The power isn't awful, but a 360 is a limp noodle compared to the 390, due to lower compression.
If you buy this truck, prepare for 7-9 mpg, maybe 10 or 11 if you're very lucky

I think the scoop would look nice if it followed the line of the front of the front edges, and a cleaner looking grill was in it. Even better if it kept some of those center lines going, too. It would be a lot of work for a scoop, but I think it'd be worth it.
