Just by where its from and the condition it's in, this thing went through Sandy and probably sat in the drink for a while. i mean shit, look at the driver side, the collector is *gone* and by the looks of it so is the floorpan. shit's sitting like that because the torsion bar mounts are rusted out. the quarters i'll give a pass on because northeast winters do that.

between all that, the "heading to the crusher" bit, and knowing that scrap prices absolutely suck right now, part of me says there's a chance I could talk them down to $700 if I went in person. The other part says the whole thing is a stupid idea. Worst case i'd be in over my head just replacing every other piece of metal in that thing, because truthfully i could give a rats ass about the original interior outside of maybe the headliner trim, because truthfully the dash doesn't look completely fucked. And the fact that they managed to get it on a forklift without it folding over does give me some hope.

Better bases, more collectable and the charger has better potential and an easier starting point. the barracuda is good because its cheap and you could easily swap in a reconditioned 225 or v8 swap it. Has a good interior too

... so I've found a '67 bug in my area for cheap. From the pics on craigslist it seems a bit worse for wear, but as long as it isn't complete trash I'd like to buy it.

One issue I'm going to have is that I don't really know what direction I should go with the build. I don't know if I want to restore it and sell it, partially restore it and sell it, or hot rod the shit out of it and keep it (or maybe sell it).

Charger is kinda pricey, and from what I have heard it is hard to find parts for that year. The Barracuda on the other hand would be pretty mean looking the way it is if you just swap in a v8.

I assume you live on Long Island though, your best bet would be to make a trip to Connecticut and find something there and bring it home. It would be cheaper than whatever you find on the island.

Any 60s Mopar is a bitch yo source parts for, but B bodies are definitely not the worst. And anything bigger than a 273 in the barracuda is going to be a nightmare of front suspension as that was the largest 8 offered. The charger, by contrast, was offered with a 383 and can handle a 440 beautifully. It also seems to be in driving condition as I look at it. Good luck.

I would first look into soda blasting or dry ice, they can come out to your house and do it and you can leave the glass in. If you can't afford that or just want to do it yourself use aircraft paint stripper, it will take forever to sand it. Get most of it off with the stripper then go over everything with 80 grit on a DA. I'm using PPG DP90 with extra reducer for a good seal.

Our fastest pass was 13.01 at 106 but spinning. So that would put in the mid 12s. The new motor will have more compression, Rev faster, and be all around more power. We are also considering putting a 700r4 in it so we can play with shift points and such but we're taking it one step at a time. It came is an MSD 6AL-2 box so it has a 2 step Rev limiter that we can also play with to launch harder. But traction is our main issue. We might get a pair of radial slicks and see how those work.

Cause really, if you had an engine hoist, stand and a decent variety of tools, you could rebuild it no problem. Most expensive thing would be the intake and carb, I'd imagine it would be maybe $1000-$1500 to do it, depending on the quality of the stuff you want

I have swapped the engine in my buddies B5 a4 and I have taken apart the engine on my old SL125 and I can disassemble and reassemble a honda predator 212cc motor blind folded. I think though, when the time comes, I will be swapping to a 351 or a 302. As much as I love the 300, their's no point in modding this engine.

I have the tools to work on the truck, that's how I got it working and running in the first place.

If I went 351, which is what I would prefer, I would try to stay with carbs at first. it is just cheaper you know. I wouldn't mind an EFI 351 with the factory TBI, but I would need a piggyback ECU or something at some point. It is all down the road. I really want a 428 or 429 but that shit isn't happening on a college kids budget. 390 might be an option, but not at this point.

I want to stick to a small block just because they have the same bellhousing as the 300, so it would make swapping transmissions a hell of a lot easier.

do you know if the 300 and the 351 are the same pattern? I know the 302 and 300 are.

fuck yeah. 351w would be awesome. My truck originally came with a T18 or T19, so the hinges for the clutch are still their. eventually I want a ZF S5-42 but I wouldn't mind a T18/9 as long as I can regear the Dana 60 to a 3.91 or 3.73 gears. it costs like 900 to do so though.

Hey guys, I'm a little upset because the new place my familly just moved to doesn't have a garage. The house is nice enough, but there isn't a garage for my barge. I have a decent cover, but considering how heavy the snow can get in MA, I'm not sure it'll be enough. It's the only car I have so I'm gonna be driving it to work anyway, but at least the streets will be semi-clear. I'm just worried about it getting damaged under all the weight of the wet snow. it doesn't need any more dents than it already has.

Rebuilding my 350 engine. Some anon gave me great advice about DCR and cam selection. Now I'm at a point where I'm almost ready to order all my parts. One issue I have though is the quench.

I'm reading that the quench for a mildly build SBC should be anywhere from .04 to .05. That should ensure smooth running with no detonation. They say anything under .4 and you're playing with fire. I can get about .064 with 'stock' replacements for the engine. That is, normal deck height, and standard head gasket size.

With the calculated stats, I can only get a pretty high quench. Is this acceptable? Should I try to get it lower? The only thing I can seem to get it lower is by either lowering my deck height, or getting a thinner headgasket. The thinnest I've found on Summit is a .027" gasket. Is that a safe size to run? I've read that some people say that gaskets have become thicker for no reason, where manufacturers would run very thin from the factory back in the day.

The only ways I have tested is by fully compressing the valve spring to highest lift figure and measuring the amount of valve travel on a bench. As long has the total valve length (lift) is less than your distance from top of cylinder wall at TDC+gasket thickness- any decking done you are okay. The other, simpler method is only doable if the heads are bolted to the block with just rotating assembly and valvetrain installed. Rotate engine by hand to cyl1 TDC and listen for any metal on metal noise.

Weight is much lower and they flow better than irons. Also, porting is easier and you can usually run a slightly higher CR and keep octane requirements the same. That's what happened when I went from ported 906 heads to Super Stealth heads, I used to have to run 100 octane race unleaded or swap to a larger jet to prevent detonation. Now, it does fine on 93 octane but much prefers 110AvBlu with UCL.

What's wrong with the Edelbrock?

I'm not too impressed with with my Holley 4160 I got last year september. Right from factory the idle was at like, 2300 rpm, even with the idle speed screw backed all the way out it idles around 1400 rpm. As a result I had to put a beefy spring on the throttle to actually close the throttle plates more. The electric choke also shit out on me 2 months into owning it too.

As an update on the Kingswood. Ordered a new Engine Thermostat housing because the old one is like 40 years old and is rusted to shit. Unfortunately it's coming from Australia and they're out of stock, supposed to restock next week which means it'll arrive in New Zealand in like 2 weeks.
Fortunately my time will be productive. Have to work on the lower radiator fitting. I spoke with a guy that can TIG weld and he suggested I try to round the out the tap because it's slightly deformed. and then cut the hose a little shorter so that I can have a go with making it fit before resorting to heavy modification.

It's parked in front of my house but she refuse to run properly. I just made a quick trip of a few yards before it stopped. When it is "cold" it starts rough but it starts and after a few minutes if i get back to idle it stops. It smell badly of fuel and i suppose that it runs too rich but i don't really know where to start.

Finally found a set of extractors to use for the Valiant. Lukey header pipes with 2 1/2 inch mid pipe for $100. Not excited for the job because of the non-crossflow head which is going to make it a pain in the ass to replace the header pipes

So ive got a set of headers, a bigger than stock midpipe but the system i bought has the stock tail pipe and stock muffler. Will this matter if its restricted after the muffler? or do i need a fatter tail pipe+muffler?

Alright gents, this is me.

I've been looking at some budget wheels, and it's come down to the Summit Vision 143's and the US Mags Ramblers in an 18in wheel

They're both cast wheels, so quality will be about the same. The Visions are $200 cheaper for the whole set, but the Ramblers look better in my opinion.

What do you guys think?

I will be getting an Edelbrock performer Intake sometime, for free. A guy I know is going to give it to me when he pulls a 390 out of a parts truck he has has. Unfortunately he hasn't pulled the engine yet and I'd rather have the truck back on the road sooner rather than later

V8 in the B machine. Some of the mechanisms in this car are unbelievably (and probably needlessly) complex for 1960. Tons of relays, vacuum lines, and the brakes are somehow ran off a takeoff pump that's part of the transmission from what I understand
