If bro weren't so picky and worried about his belongings I could borrow the carb out of his DRZ, but that's not going to happen.
I've been thinking about maybe buying the FCR39 as a fix/upgrade. Fug $550 for a carb tho?

On my phone nigger

Does /dbt/ balance their own tires or go to the shop?
I can replace tires but I'm not sure about accurate balancing.

They have those bead things you pour in through the valve stem, anyone have experience with those?
>>
>>13842327
I bought some sticky wheel weights and stuck one of them on to get it roughly balanced. Just toook my chain and brake off and spun the wheel around and found out if one side consistently came out on bottom

I've been checking ebay and craigslist for carbs occasionally. They are a bit cheaper but I never know if it might have a slightly different fit that will make things a lot harder. Also I need several other parts (throttle cables, air box adapter, velocity stack, intake adapter, jets, etc.) that make it cost a lot more than the carb itself if I were to buy used.

The 39mm flat slide carb with accelerator pump is "the best mod you can do to a drz." Basically it makes the bike much punchier and more responsive.

Is a set of those plastic rim guards really needed on a wheel that isn't fancy and expensive?
I have heavy ass black wheels on my SV that I don't mind if they get a scratch.
Anyone know if they are aluminum, I really hope they didn't use steel. So much rotating weight.

I did. They were to tight before. Now that they're in spec they're noisier. It's more of a tick than a clack though.
I checked before and put in a shim to move them to the right gap. Then I checked with the new shim in and it was in spec. Then I ran it some and it was still in spec. Then several thousand miles later it was still in spec.

unfortunately no, if i ever do another set ill get some i guess.
i just used a pneumatic grinder with a cnc machine bit in it.
that with the rejet, valve adjustment and freeing up the baffle made for a much nicer throttle response and better power

Question. My dirt wheels have a rim lock on them, but it throws them out of balance. When I put dual sport tires on them, I want to lose the rim lock. What do I do about that hole in the rim?

>>13842598
Tire irons will gouge the edges of the rim. It won't really hurt anything though except aesthetics. The rim protectors are cheap though.

Put a magnet to it if you want to find if it is aluminum or steel.

>>13842601
>>
>>13842631
tape it over or put a button head bolt in there.
i usually ditch the rubber rim band and spin good electrical tape on about 4-6 passes in its place then just poke the holes you need

i don't really take luxuries, except a garmin etrex, though it's scarcely bigger than a paper map and quite a bit more useful, so i think it's justifiable.
everything else is ultralight hiking gear.
1.8kg tent
2 season down bag
thermarest neoair
optimus crux lite stove and pot/cup
some boil in a bag food/instant coffee
some fresh underwear and t-shirt (dependent on length of trip)
baby wipes/wet wipes
small bar of multipurpouse soap and other essential toiletries like a toothbrush, a small towel and a dragon dildo
1 pair of shorts, flip flops and a lightweight micro fleece.
a couple of essential tools like a multitool, a knife, puncture repair kit etc.

It all fits nicely into a 30l roll bag and a kriega r25(water bladder in), with room to spare for beers, anal beeds and other assorted items.
Weighs very little, barely noticeable on the bikes handling.

thats it. anything else is unnecesary bullshit.
though i am tempted to buy one of these

"Expert motorcyclist and author Ken Condon knows there is a right way to hit the road and track when you’re behind the handlebars. In this new book Motorcycling the Right Way, Condon lays out a basic riding course for motorcyclists who are smart enough to acknowledge that “you don’t know what you don’t know.” In setting forth the keys to riding safely and well, Condon’s method capitalizes on reducing risks and potential crashes and increasing the rider’s ever-improving skills and situational awareness. Filled with readable, useful advice and anecdotes from the road, Motorcycling the Right Way will be welcomed by beginners and returning riders, as well as"

>How do you like Kreiga?
Love it. Build quality is amazing, but that can be found in other bags, whats special is the shoulder strap/harness system. It takes all the weight off your shoulders. You barely feel it.
Once you've experienced it, you wont want to ride with a conventional backpack again.
There are other nice touches, like the white lining inside so you can actually see inside the bag, high quality zippers and tension buckles, and it's basically waterproof.
>>
>>13842968
Thanks mate, just saved me some $$. I will eventually get the same front tire, its just it has at least 3months left in it
>>
>>13842976
I feel it man. I did the same thing, but I didn't even realize that I replaced the rear with the same tire as the front. What bike do you have?
>>
>>13842965
I would recommend tires of the same compound that work together. If you're not a pro rider that understands compounds and how they affect the behaviour of the bike don't risk it.
By staying the same you have balance. It's just good practice. It's why seeing only snow tires on the driving wheels of a car drive me crazy. It should be all four for maximum control and predictability.

>The conclusion is the rider is still at fault for not paying better attention to the buffoon going through the stop sign.

The rider had eyes on the van the whole time, He was never going to get hit. You need to remember that it is a fisheye lens so everything seems alot closer that it really is.

Also the van was the one 100% at fault, the rider stated in a previous thread that he gave the cops the footage and they fined the van driver.
>>
>>13843067
Yes, as a rider he should have known better. If you treat everything like it's out to get you you'll be much safer. That nignog had plenty of time to see and adapt. He's lucky he didn't get ran over.

>30F swings
I had one day in New Mexico where it started around 60-64F and BAM! a strong wind came through and the temp dropped 20F in less than 20 minutes. It kept dropping at a slower rate and bottomed out at 2F around midnight. It was crazy, and of course I would be working on my car through this. Also, periodic snow flurries.
>>
>>13843091
Why are you looking for a new helmet?
I have the rf1100 and I think it's worth it. It's comfortable and has great, thought out features.

>>
>>13843111
>He also had a yield sign.
It's a give way sign
>Knowing that the van was about to occupy the same space as him
No, incorrect. If the van had of stopped the rider would have farted by long before the van was even close.

Its sloppy driving on the van drvers part.

The rider did everything correctly.
Plus if he got hit, that's in Australia they all have insurance. He would have got a good pay day for very little injury.
>>
>>13842939
Depends on where I'll be living. Ideally, on the DR650 I'd like to do the valves, oil change, inspect all bearings, change shock fluid, fork fluid, clean and lube the chain, and some other little things here and there.

What's a higher priority right now though is to figure out why my Miata is leaking more oil than usual. I'll put it up on stands when it's daylight again.

Eastern New Mexico is a special kind of Hell, friend. At least here in Alamogordo, the weather is modulated a bit better with the mountain ranges. We do get some good wind, but it doesn't get as bad nearly so often as Clovis does. Hell, in Clovis the winds can be calm and then all of a sudden it's FORTY FIVE MPH GUSTING TO SIXTY and tumbleweeds are no-shit passing you on the roads in town. I wasn't there for this, but this is fucking hilarious.

Just por them into the tank m8. The coffee is a different viscosity to petrol, so it will stay at the top of the petrol and not get ducked through the petcock.

Later on you can just drink it with a straw

Or if you have a open face, you can drink whilst riding.

This is also a great way to stay alert always on your bike so you don't drive out in front of vans at intersections.

Van was never gonna hit me, he made eye contact with me before he got to the stop sign, van driver just wanted to be a cunt. He could have possibly gotten sacked by now and I hope the ignorant old cunt has too.

gs500.jpg
34KB, 450x314px
The GS500 is objectively the best beginner bike.
> mileage
It's a mid-sized 4stroke twin cylinder bike, so it drinks less than 6 liters per 100 km.
> handling
It handles nothing like a supersport, spoiling you for when you get something else. But it can also corner much better than something like a cruiser, and actually uses its entire rear tire unlike a Ninja 250.
> brakes
They are complete shit and their only redeeming feature is that they're disc brakes. This is good because the longer braking distance forces new riders to plan ahead and start braking early. No ABS means they learn to brake properly I'd they don't want to get shrekt.
> power
It sits right at the power limit for A2 bikes which is great for euros. It's torquey enough to be faster off the line than most cars you'll encounter in the city. But it also feels relatively gutless so a) it's forgiving of mistakes and b) you can ride it at the limit without putting yourself into too much danger. It reaches up to 180 km/h which is fast enough for highway riding.
> carbs
It being carbed means that if you run into problems, you can learn to fix them yourself instead of heading to the mechanic every time.
> seating position
Upright, slightly forward means it's a neutral riding position so you can figure out what you want afterwards. The seat is relatively uncomfortable making literally every other bike after it will feel like heaven on your ass.
> price and availability
Parts and the bikes themselves are cheap and plentiful. If you crash and fuck up one of your fairings it's 40 euros to replace it with original parts. Engine needs little maintenance. Beginner riders are typically not financially independent, so this is a big plus for them.
> suspension
It's a budget suspension factoring into the overall low cost of getting a GS 500. If you want better suspension it's easy to swap. Therefore it gives beginners an opportunity to learn working on suspension while keeping the cost manageable.
