FOR THOSE TRYING TO SKIN URD EGT CARS AND HAVING TROUBLE!

For URD skins the structure is a little different. It is important that you name your skins exactly as follows (example with #52 Corvette C7R)

Body file: 52_ALT.dds,
Rear Window: 52_ALTrwin.dds,
Wing: 52_ALTwing.dds,
Banner: 52_ALTban.dds

Saved into a .mas file name 52_ALT

For a Porsche 911 it would be

Body: 52_ALT.dds,
Banner: 52_ALTbaner.dds (YES ONLY ONE 'N', VERY IMPORTANT!!!!),
Wing: 52_ALTrwing.dds,
Windows: 52_ALTwindows.dds

Pic related, proof that it works

Well now I know why my time was struggling so hard, ABS lets you brake at any point almost at no cost to you.

Really just turns this into an arcade game, from off to on I gained like 3 seconds on my times.

>>13831546
rFactor 2 can and will fuck you for locking the brakes to often. Thermal degradation causes grip to drop off quite quickly if you frequently lock them. It's all about threshold braking my friend.
>>
>>13831573
This weeks GT3, in the GTR, went from high 134 to 131 on stock settings. by just turning ABS from off to low.

I can just plant my foot on the brakes with it on, and with it off I don't lock the brakes, but it's braking distance is way longer and you cant trail brake for shit unless low is enabled.
>>
>>13831698
No shit. GT3s use assists. Feel free to turn on TCS too, it doesn't make you a babby. Most people use ABS on high.

>>
>>13832275

Lancer is right, take that from a soon graduated mechanical engineering student

There's "room" (heat capacity) for more heat energy in the metal components than there is in the water, so the engine will continue to heat the water for some time after running
>>
>>13832303
Sorry messed that up, the water has more heat capacity, but the engine has more heat energy, which is transferred to the water due to the second law of thermodynamics

For instance if the engine is 400C, and the water starts out at 80C, the energy will go from the engine to the water until they reach an equal temperature - and to the air and chassis too of course in turn, and in the end they'll all reach the temperature of the air

not that water absolutely wouldn't heat up from the engine, but
>water temperature always constant, no matter what revs or airflow
>can over-rev engine through the whole stage and nothing will happen
>touch solid part of world, something 'breaks'
>water temperature starts rising linearly, no matter what revs or airflow, will never cool down
it's not simulated damage, it's a scripted event randomly triggered on impact

GT6 is pretty good too. This screenshot is so photo-realistic that you'd be hard pressed to tell it apart from real life (if it's too dark try turning up your monitor brightness a bit).
>>
>>13832395
>>13832429

Ok let's calculate it for you then since you think it's unfair

We're assuming the entire engine to be of aluminium, assuming the water to be pure H2O since I'm too lazy to look up the coolant. The water has a starting temperature of 80 degress celcius, the engine block at 350C just to be nice. We're assuming there's 8L=8kg of water in the entire system, and assuming there's 80kg of aluminium in the entire engine block

C_water=4.2 kJ/kg.K
C_al=0.897 kJ/kg.K

m_engine*c_al*dT=m_water*c_water*dT
80*879*(350-T)=8*4200*(T-80)
=>T=262.7C

So if all the energy in the engine would go to the water (which it wont because most of the energy goes to the surroundings like the air and the chassis and body etc), the water would heat up to 262.7 degrees celcius

Please don't try to school me in fucking thermodynamics

Alright guys, the barebones of the Touring Car Google Doc is up now, the rest of it will have to wait a couple of days until I'm not half dying of illness and have spoken to a few people. Please sign up asap* if you want to take part though as if sign ups are pointlessly low, I'll reconfigure the series or pass it on.

Also, who is in charge of ovgt6? I don't want to accidentally step on your toes and have our series overlap and lose potential players for both of us because I bodged the timing of mine ending, so can you hit me up on mumble or steam (I'm found under my in-game name in the ovg steam group) to discuss it please? Thanks.

*Most of the doc is still protected just so people can't fuck my shit up while it's still part done, you can meme in the sign up bit though or down at the bottom.

Time is completely irrelevant to the point the temperature of the water will increase when cooling is cut off yet there is still heat energy supplied to it from the engine

If I have an oven heated to 200 degrees, switch it off, put in a glass of water that's 20 degrees, the temperature of the water will still increase, yeah at some point it will reach a max temperature and at t=0s it'll be at 20 degrees, but over a time period dt the water's temperature will increase and the air in the oven will have decreasing temperature until a point in time t0 where there is a thermal equilibrium established, as calculated for the engine and water in my previous post

Goodlord I know I'm feeding the bait but please stop being a NEET and read some thermodynamics

Well with the car in gear it's retarded to slow so little unless the transmission is completely snapped at some point, being a 4WD car it'd have to be the shaft going out of the gearbox for that to happen

The speeds it's losing is from air resistance, your steering the car and from rolling resistance, but I doubt rolling resistance is calculated too much in the game but it sure as fuck isn't calculated in Rally 2000, it'll be a much simpler version based on a single point of drag with air resistance, rolling resistance and transmission losses all factored into a single entity

And if you absolutely doubt my credibility in these calculations please go fuck yourself :^)

But besides yea it's probably a floating point error or something that causes the car to keep rolling uphill, similar to why Ghandi becomes a warmongering psychopath in Civilization - He's set to an agressivity level of 1, adopting democracy reduces this by two points to -1, but because the programming cannot handle negative numbers, it is changed to an extremely high value to be interpreted by the game

I was thinking about joining one of the /ovg/ races since it looks fun but I don't want to fuck up. I checked the wiki and saw that you were mostly racing on Game Stock Car, what is the best way to get started ? Install the game, play a few races against bots to get some experience and then hop on the mumble and go ? Are the series open for everyone ? Is there a recommended car/serie for beginner ? Also when are you racing ? I played a lot of racing games but never tried online racing like this.

>>13833707
We're currently running GT3s (you can get the mod via the document in the OP), and you'll need to download the track for the weeks race

Most people practice online on the server because it keeps track of your laptimes so you can see how you improve

You can do races against AI to get better, but driving against AI is very different from driving against real people, so the best way to practice is just to get on the server while someone else is there and run with them

And don't worry about being no good at racing with real people, or crashing a bit during races, most drivers here (including myself) can't do 20 clean laps in a row anyway
>>
>>13833707
Practice on the track on the week before the race a lot and leave a lot of space to people when you're new. All the other info is in the wiki look on the gt3 page

RBR is a perfect sim that simulates engine mass, volume, density and temperature. there is no way temperature in RBR is just a gimmick triggered randomly on a collision
>>

I've never used RBR and I don't care about it, I was explaining you why water temperature would increase even on a switched off engine

dont try to overtake or battle people until you're absolutely confident you know how to properly battle somebody. if you see the guy behind you is incredibly fast compared to you, let him by. if you wanna get aggressive, be aware of who you piss off. some people have a lot of pull in the shadow government and can get you penalized or berate you for something you didn't do.
>>
>>13833762
And learn to recognize the names of users so you know who you can race and who you need to be careful with because they drive erratically, or who it's easier just wait for a few corners until they take themselves out

How does your car keep traction in turn 9 coming up that little slope? Everytime I do it no matter how little throttle I give it just breaks away.

It got to a point I wanted to rip my wheel off my desk and throw it at my wall it got so frustrating.
>>
>>13835918
Alot of it probably has to do with my car setup but I just go through a little over half the turn, turn the wheel in a tiny bit more and try to make the car straight for the crest.

Pretty sure some race cars in AC have it in the in game config

Also your engine brake map lives in engine.ini and since version 1.2 most cars made before that update have problem spinning when coasting while in gear

If driving one of thise cars and you can coast fine in neutral, edit your engine.ini and set the engine brake to half the strength it was at, so far that fix worked on 3 cars that I commonly use (Mustang, Miata and Pintiac GTO)

Huh, I never noticed that at all
>>
>>13836376
In OVGTP it could have become a problem for some people. In this mod the brake temps get unsafe around 1000C I believe while OVGTP and possibly Stock Cars were in the 650-700C range for unsafe operating temps.
>>
>>13836417
It's probably down to selecting brake ducts and braking technique, I always picked duct size so brake temp would not steadily increase over time
>>
>>13836417
Optimum for the GT3s is 500C, overheating happens at 850C which drops brake torque by half. So it's also about 650-700C where you want to worry. Though the P2s in OVGTP were good till like 1050C though.

So braking lines, I take it they are a little wonky sometimes? I know there isn't supposed to be brake fade but I feel that I'll brake at the same location and sometimes I'll end up and extra 10 feet away from where I expect to be.

Fun fact: Top Gear Rally was ported to the PC as Boss Rally, with several extra cars and tracks, including Laguna Seca. It also features netplay and force feedback -- albeit its wheel support is terrible, it's clearly meant to be played on a gamepad.

It also requires a Glide wrapper, included in this package. Run Setvideo.exe and pick Diamond Monster Fusion (Use Glide)

If you are interested in the rF2 btcc support class races (which will essentially be organised pickups across a variety of mods), but not in the btcc itself because you dislike the cars, please submit your entry on the doc anyway with a note by your name saying so, so that I can have a better idea of possible competitor numbers. If things are getting a bit sparse there will be series retooling - but several already signed up competitors have made it very clear that btcc is something they enjoy and wish to continue in some form.

So I looked through the wiki and also the updater and the google page, can't seem to find where I can upload my liveries to for a pack.

Is there not one or is it not up yet for this week? I noticed there is a download for week 9, but it's week 6 in the updater.

As I understand it, we are running 450 PP shitbox rules in London, then we are running a one-make (what make, I don't know) Special Stage on Circuito de la Sierra.

the AWD cars have to run stock, they don't have a single advantage

Stock torque split you mean? How will this be enforced?

>they don't have a single advantage
Guaranteed move to the front of the pack on the hole-shot on a tight city course is definitely an advantage.

you really should be using complete weight reduction and power limiting to spec

also recommended is racing exhaust as it magics more power on the top end of the power band

that goes for all of our shaggin' wagons
