I've been to Florida before, Disney Land Florida for a week. I can tell you there are no bath salt eating zombies, bus sized child eating gators, black hating Hispanics, or husband sparing wives at all. Now if I haven't been to a country before, a mostly unbiased source of information would be the first place to look. Mexico is paradise compared to most of Africa, and Japan is Heaven where Mexico is Hell, using crime rate as a metric if you can't follow along. Crime rate and safety as well as cultural norms are incredibly important to know when traveling abroad, lest you want to come back in one piece. Not only that current affairs matter a lot. I don't think a trip to the Gaza Strip three or so years ago would have been a smart move.
