r8 my fixed gear boyz. also fixed gear bread
>>
>>988196
is that a strap on 1 pedal . fixed gear bikes need foot retention, especially brakeless.

Also level your bars, otherwise, bretty good.
>>
>>988200
He obviously only slows down and stops by skidding and does so right foot forward.

You can just ride a brakeless freewheel instead why even bother with fixed right?

brakeless freewheel is my first choice but my mum got pissed off having to buy me new shoes all the time

This. It's like a really fast, fragile, brakeless bmx. I still use foot retention though because without it you can't crank as hard. Skidding is pretty fun when you can skid completely around turns but I'm doing a lot of distance riding and commuting on it so I figured a brakeless single speed would be easier and faster. I was right. And being able to easily bike 15 miles in skate shoes is wonderful

>>988240
The vans outlet has really nice clearance shoes. I got 4 pairs of shoes for 60$. They almost always have shoes in the clearance section for 20$ and a sale for bogo half off

I want a fixie just because I like how neat and thin the back end is, looks so much better than fucking 1x25 gearing where the back end is wider than your hips

If that's the case you could go single speed or internally geared hub.

B8 thread is trash.

This lil beast only lasted me a week or two, conversions suck unless you can get something with a tight wheelbase and minimal braze onseseseses.
>>
I'm considering getting a fixie, not for hipster reasons, just because I read in several sites that fixed gears are a good way for improving the pedaling efficience in road riding, and could be nice having a different riding style.

At first I think I could get a really cheap old steel, but on my city the hipster tax is high, like 100-150 euro for an old low end steel bike from 80's

I fucking hate conversions. Pedal strike and the whole frame feels like dog shit because it was never designed to be run like that.

Just. Buy. A. Track. Bike

Fucking you could buy a CREW complete for like 300, the frames are decent you just slowly upgrade the generic components.

You don't have to buy Cinell, 8Bar, MASH, LOW///. These are options to upgrade too if you wanted to.

I really don't understand why or how this is difficult.

Crit frames do alright, flatter chainstays will keep you higher and less likely to strike. This is where all my parts went onto when that red pantysonic didin't work out, tight geo meant that a 53/16 was practical, especially with drops and clipless pedals.

>>988579

Get a state or go to bikeisland.com
>>
>>988586
Don't you sort of need a forward position on a fixed bike to unweight the rear wheel?

>>989684
That's a one-piece or "ashtabula" bottom bracket. If you want to make it single speed you just need to get a replacement one-piece crank arm designed to use a single chainring. The bottom bracket comes apart like any other fixture on a bike that uses a cone + lockring, except in this case the threads are reversed.

Thanks for the helpful information, but I don't really have what I need to get it apart on my own so I'll probably have to just take it in

If I'd like to get into track cycling what kind of bike should I get for starters? I would ride it only on velodrome and the way there wich is couple of miles. I do lot's of road and mtb riding so I'm pretty fit. I'm also quite tall so I haven't been able to properly test a fixie since all the fixiefags I know are manlets with tiny bikes.

Yes they do, but not if you braze on a couple of these pic related. Currently building a 60cm Schwinn Le Tour. Throwing on a new fork thatll close some gap between wheel and down tube.
Take a grinder and some vice grips to all the cable housing and kickstand pad. Then a sand blast and some powder coat

Just take it to a shop, man. They'll be able to diagnose the innertube issue (whether it's the rim, tire, or you've been installing them wrong) and solve your lockring issue. It's worth it.

>>995582
try running your finger along the side of the inner tire wall, may be something like a bit of glass, or a metal wire popping it. also get a lockring so your cog doesn't loosen and get straps, then, just lean forwards and push back.
also you most likely messed the stem up, good job

quick on-topic question, since the BQG is on auto-sage and nobody has started a new one: can a fixed-gear conversion be raced at a velodrome in a sanctioned race?
I wrench in a city where there isn't a velodrome, and a customer came in hoping to convert his 90's Bianchi Brava (sport tour model) to a fixed gear. He insisted that he was going to race it at Hellyer (closest velodrome). I took his money, but I didn't wanna burst his bubble about being able to race on the track.

Is it possible he could ride it on a 'drome?

Are there any official rules about this?
>>
>>996186
I have no idea what they will say but I don't think he should
Track bikes have a higher crank position so you can actually corner or take sharp turns or just bank in the track in general honestly
Also I don't think the rear dropout is ideal for chain tension
All and all I think it'd be a lot of trouble
However having a conversion would be cool for general riding because you have road bike geo for comfort

>>995080
I'm assuming the right is your friend's? I really prefer it because it has a simpler and more cohesive aesthetic, not to mention is the same bike functionally as the one on the left. Left bike has a more extreme stem angle but is set higher up, thereby adding some superfluous stem...ness... to the bike for the same hand position. The lattice chainring looks nicer on contemporary bikes with more meme parts on them, but the frame is just too classic for such a new part to not clash. The mismatched rims, likewise, look out of place on such an old-styled frame. I'd totally forgive this stuff if there was a good weight savings associated with parts choice, though. Utility is a great reason to skimp on looks, as long as there's nothing pointless or superfluous. (that said, I think right is still a cleaner look overall).

Oh, and you should think about getting one of the blue hkk vertex chains, if you can stomach the cost, and send the gold chain off to your buddy. It matches his sidewalls! Which is as good a reason as any to splurge on new stuff.

For spoke nipples? Don't. It sets and makes the inevitable truing harder. Use nearly any other kind of oil. Loctite and linseed oil has no place in bicycle wheels.

Nice frameset though.
>>
>>1011680
I use this setup for work cause I work for deliveroo and you have to sit somewhat upright to not fuck up the food because of the shit bag you have to use, but yeah, I prefer using a longer stem and drops for riding out of the city.
This saddle was uncomfortable as fuck, got a specialized for 5€ that does the work marvellously and I can feel my dick after 100k rides now.

>need to sit upright
buy a raiser then, dumbdumb
>>

I don't like to ride with a riser and I find this setup to be a good compromise so no.
