I am aware that it's no Canyon Aero, but despite being a locally made Alu frame that looks like shit, that's heavy and sports quite a meme paintjob it actually rides pretty good.

No offense taken, buddy. I was genuinely wondering what could've made it look like a chinabike. I'm thiking of giving it an all matte black paintjob to get rid of the corny branding.

It is a lot different experience than on my 22 speed. It is a full body workout just to keep moving. The 12-13% segments are just painful, but the other side of the mountain is more steady at about 4-7% for 10 miles. In that case it is just standing up using mostly quads. It feels like a leg press machine.
>>1064643
Small cog in rear and small chainring up front. 39-15, not really a high ratio.

i think he meant the hangar, which i just assumed was to aid chain retention on a sub-16 rear cog.

Using a ~20-30mm conical spacer isn't slammed, also the mountain bike clearly has some regular spacers under it.
>>1065676
Right thanks for clarifying. I thought those spacers were part of the headset. I.e. ones you wouldn't be able to get rid of without ordering a special part. The mountain bicycle I was unsure about but it still looks like maybe it isn't a regular spacer to me.

Using good performance tires with latex tubes are probably the closest you can get to riding tubulars on clinchers

anecdotal evidence, but I just put vittoria corsa g's on with vittoria latex tubes. Sliced the wheel on a piece of metal and didn't get a flat. Went through the casing but the latex being slightly thicker probably saved me from a flat. Might of not flatted with butyl either but after paying $12 for a tube my mind is making up whatever excuses it can.

The best part; it can be assumed from the fact that you let your old bike literally fall to pieces that you don't even own the tools needed to assemble your new bike when/if it arrives.
>>1066599
Why you gotta judge? My bike was in shoddy condition when I got it. I have all the tools, it's just not worth my time buying replacement parts.
Just got new wheel, tire, and brake on the front today, but my lever has too short of a throw to actually clamp down on the brake well. And getting a new lever might be difficult because the lever is built into the shifter.

Nah, just depends on how much you care.
You could just go at the spots with some wd-40 and steel wool or whatever, and then paint it back up. It's just a matter of whether or not you think it's worth the effort.
Not so bad for a first road bike, so you might as well put a bunch of love into it and ride it until you can't.

This pic convinced me to slide my saddle forward past the stop line and I just had the most comfortable ride I have ever experienced on my bike since I bought the thing.
>>1067883
The flex in the rails probably partly contributed to that, nice and comfy until the rails snap and something goes up your arse. If you really want your saddle that far forward then get a post with as much setback as you can and run it backwards.
>>1067883
Ive been riding this bike in various different fittings and styles and have never had any problem running things further out than the "maximum line". Even when I first started riding at 342 lbs or so. With things like seatposts or headsets, obviously you still want enough purchase/coverage when you tighten everything down, but there is a little more leeway than you think
>>1067894
It's nearly impossible to get the right saddle angle when you do it that way, based on the seat tube angle, unless you've got a saddle clamp with A LOT of adjustability. Also you worry too much

Turn your quick release skewers so they don't point forward and you've got a kickstand, use it instead of leaning the bars against a wall and potentially damaging your tape. Cable routing for the shifters seems weird.

The only people you're impressing are casual normies who couldn't tell the difference between that and a Pure Fix.
>>1069079
Not either of those anons, but I agree with them. Fixed gear bikes ridden outside of a velodrome need brakes, otherwise they are glorified fashion accessories, and the poster of that bike has set himself up to be judged as a fashion victim by his choice of unnecessarily expensive but trendy components.

Better picture?
I bought a meme today. What fork should I get for it?
>>1069382
You shouldn't get any fork for it.
It's a fucking untapered headset with no thru-axle.
Ride it and enjoy it for what it is. Don't try to turn it into something it is not.
>>1069394
You know there is something in between xc and downhill. Also this frame was clearly designed for a fork.
>>1069335
Fuck m8, dont kill yourself on that thing
>>1069382
Keep the steel fork, get good and be rad
Electric bike. I like it very much.
>>1069435
That's very nice tbqh.
>>1069399
I'm not saying don't ride it.
I'm not even saying it's worthless.
I'm just saying that there is no reason to ever buy a suspension fork with a non-tapered steer tube and a 10mm quick release for an obsolete frameset. You are throwing money at nothing, because handling stiffness is more important than suspension travel for the sorts of stuff you will ride with a bike like that. It's more important to be able to put down a clean line that it is to soak clean hits with a full-rigid. If the full-rigid in question can't accept a suspension fork that will still retain adequate handling stiffness, then it is a downgrade rather than an upgrade.
Ok.
>>1069435
Very nice.
Shame about it getting stolen.
>>1069079
It has no brakes
>>1069435
fix your seatpost.
>>1069454
Please stop spewing bullshit. There are plenty of short travel straight steerer QR forks with adequate stiffness, probably even some that are stiffer than that steel noodle fork. Even if there is more flex having suspension can greatly increase the handling capabilities of a bike off road.
Also just because new stuff comes out doesn't mean that the old stuff automatically becomes complete junk.
>>1069454
Like how new are you to mountain biking. Tapered forks are fairly new and have only recently become popular on xc frames. Same goes with thru axles. I have a frame with all that stuff for when I want to go all out. This is going to be my long trail bike and I want to be able to ride all day without my wrists falling off. A light xc fork is what I'm looking for not a 160 mm travel downhill fork. Also the geometry of this frame and the fact that it dose have a reinforced headtube indicated that it (like all mtn bike make in this century) are intended to have suspension. Maybe I think your throwing your money away on a bike that is no fun to ride on flats.
please r8
>>1069435
EITHER THE BIKE IS TOO BIG FOR YOU OR YOU ARE RIDING WITH THE SEATPOST WAY TOO LOW YOU LAZY FAT FUCK
>>1069614
2.74/10
>>1069629
Thanks m8
>>1069567
What year is it?
>>1069614
Frame: 7/10
Everything else: 2/10
>>1069616
Lel. Don't worry about that. I had a giant STP same setup. Did urban riding with it. Jumped 8sets on the daily. Blew out a wheel about every month, but no damage to the fork or hub. I already got a fork on order, but I rode the bike today and I'm intrigued. So I might keep it on for awhile.
>>1069614
Cute/10
Disregard the Freds and enjoy it
>>1069340
What is a tapered head tube. It's a +/-0 stem. Do you even bike bro?
>>1069081
This literally reads as "your ability to buy components that I can't afford makes them stupid and worthless" Not that matters but other than the drops, chain, and tires, everything else is used.
Could you sound anymore like a child, go ride a bike.
>>1069059
Cool meme reply bro, I r8 8/8
>>1069055
>Do you really care that much about what other people think of you that you'll spend loads of money on an inconvenient and potentially dangerous bike for riding on the road? Are you aware that anyone that actually has some cycling knowledge will think you're a total idiot? The only people you're impressing are casual normies who couldn't tell the difference between that and a Pure Fix.
My God, I just bet you're the life of the party. I bet your friends just love to hear you drone on about being so elite. I bet you ride a Special Ed or a Trek, all that money in a fancy carbon frame but still can't avg 13 mph.
Stay mad, maybe use all that energy to power your bike rather than getting so worked up over my bike.
>>1069682
year 2006 Trek 5000 i think. I love the fact that it says "7 time tour de france champion" on the frame. It gives me the legs of the greatest doper.
>>1069705
He did it better than everyone else
>>1069708
He really is the definition of asshurt, ain't he? You'd think one would try to be a bit more subtle or with a bit more self-respect
>>1069682
10/10. Both the pic and the bike. What frameset is that?
>>1069614
>that low of a gear ratio when there's presumably no hills nearby
>shit-tier saddle
That brings a would-be 9/10 down to a 6.7/10
>>1069725
Kona unit SS. Modern steel is still real. except that fork. Its like riding a flacid cock. I think I might want to stick with rigid and get a carbon one.
>>1069717
>He really is the definition of asshurt, ain't he? You'd think one would try to be a bit more subtle or with a bit more self-respect
Here's your >(You)
>>1069708
>Less than $700
I'll wait
>>1069904
Nope
>>1069905
Whilst it's overpriced for what it is that's not a cost to brag about or insinuate that others couldn't afford. 4 out of my 5 bikes cost more than that, I have spare parts laying around worth more, and I could buy at least 6 of them. I'm also quite poor.
>>1069908
>Trying this hard
Lol ok man, whatever you say. I'm gonna go ride my bike, you can stay here and tell other anons why the bike their riding is wrong.
>>1069908
>he only has 5 bikes
>>1069910
Like I said, I'm poor. I suppose if I bought cheap shitty fixies too I could have more but I like to spend my money logically.
>>1069912
>spends money "logically"
>is poor
>>1069913
I'm poor because I don't earn much, not because I waste money.
>>1069729
Saddle is original and quite comfy. There are hills nearby, or where I do most of my riding, but I'm replacing the whole groupset before summer for something more modern and higher end
For £75 I am more than happy with it though. Great frame, full Reynolds 531 and it has some Campag bits I'll keep
>>1069729
I'm not complaining about your gear range, I'm complaining about your gear ratio and the fact that you were riding in that low of a gear ratio by your house on flat ground.
>>1069743
>ruining REAL STEEL with a memeon fork
>not riding a steel fork
>>1069938
I think ive been mistaking loss of traction in the front with flex in the fork. I'm going to convert it to tubeless soon, that might tame this jackhammer. But, All in all its an excellent frame and a rocket in the climbs. I think all of the problems I'm experiencing are just a matter of "git gud noob".
Just fred my shit up famm
>>1070049
I'm not a fan of 100% stealth bikes but it's very nice. Only one cage though?
>>1070049
Please get nicer tires senpi.
I had a pair of those and hated every second of it. They have the puncture resistance of Chinese toilet paper.
>>1070052
I don't drink enough to carry two bottles at the moment, maybe i'll put on the second cage once it gets hotter and I start doing longer races
>>1070055
I like them, I also run latex tubes so I get fewer punctures because of that. I also have a pair of Challenge Criterium tubulars for another wheelset that I'm going to use for racing
>>1066672
Now all this bike needs is a Nitto m12 rack and it's all set. Don't let the memes be dreams anon-kun--!
>>1067324
>erini crtini
What did they mean by this?
>>1064750
Buy clipless pedals
>>1069502
Lol. Tapered headtubes are "new" to mtb. Go on pinkbike, tell me how many bikes have straight 1 1/18 steers. it hasn't been that way for 10 years at least
>>1070114
Tapered frames/forks are about 8 years old and it wouldn't have been until about the last 5 years or so that most frames are tapered. Sure it's not as new as some things like pressfit bottom brackets or boost hubs but it's still fairly recent and there's a shit load of people out there still riding on straight steerers. There are also straight forks and frames still being made.
>>1070114
First of my bike you claim is so ancient and out dated is a 2016. Second I can at this very moment order and xc suspension fork from fox or rockshox with a 1 1/8 inch steerer an quick release. The reason it doesn't use a tapered stem is because it is expensive and difficult to do in a steel frame. The reason it uses 1 1/8 inch is so that I can fit standard sized xc stems and hardware. Am I arguing that a tapered steerer would not be better? No.
I'm simply arguing that 1 1/8 steer i s plenty stiff enough for recreational use.
>>1070049
sweet ride man.
Are those the cosmic pro carbon sl? how are they?
