For you peeps who play with sheet music, where do you find sheets? I'm trying to learn how to improv over Chick Coreas Spain but I can't really guarantee if the sheets I find are accurate or not

How the heck are you supposed to play a 7b9 chord on the guitar? Do you have to play the low E with your thumb? It's impossible to barre with your index finger without hitting the A string
>>
>tfw have been strumming guitar using my thumb and middle finger WITHOUT pick for ages for some reason so when I try to use a pick with my thumb and pointer it feels super unnatural and when I use the pick between my thumb and middle finger it feels like heaven but that means I lose the ability to do things with my other fingers
fucking dumb me
>>
>>75164760
> Do you have to play the low E with your thumb?
Yes.
>>
>>75164760
Barre the top 4 strings with your index, but do it so your fingertip is muting the A string.
>>
>>75164760

Thumb works good
>>
>>75165077
The fingerings I find say that you should barre with your index finger

>>75165076
Doing this but fretting the low E with my middle finger and fretting the high E and G string with my pinky and ring finger works but it's a hassle to switch to if you need to change chords fast
>>
>>75165063
>>75165105
I have a short thumb and wide neck so this shape in particular doesn't work too well for my thumb
>>
After teaching myself acoustic for three months I decided to get a guitar teacher. Apparently I have made very good progress on my own but he is trying to get me to change the way I strum - I like the warm sound and speed of using thumb (skin) for down strums and index finger (skin) for up. I very rarely use a plectrum as I live in a flat and don't want sound to travel.

He's trying to get me to change to index and second finger for down and thumb for up. As I have naturally long nails it's impossible to do this for me without using the nails. It's a much more metallic sound and I really am not sure about it. The thumb for up strums especially I am finding a nightmare as I keep getting fingers caught in strings and it's seriously loud.

Should I persevere with his way or press the point that I prefer my way?
>>
>>75165161
Well, is your index finger long?
I've successfully used the index in a way that the less fleshy part (where the finger tip bends) sits on top of the A string effectively muting it.
Like what happens to a few ppl on the G string with a minor barre chord.

Not english, so I don't know if you understood me.

Anyway, I think it's better to practice using that thumb.
>>
>>75165362
Do both. I'd learn them both well, and then you can make an artistic decision down the line
>>
>>75165362
If you're three months in, I'd listen to your teacher. Doesn't mean you can't keep in practice with your method, too, though.

Memecaster incoming.

My old Telecaster is a Mexico 95 model top-loader. I've had it for 20 year so it has a certain amount of sentimental value but on the other hand the neck has had it, it never really sounded much like a tele with the toploading and the pickups were never much cop. I've got plenty of nice guitars since so I decided rather than leave it to rot in its case I'm going to have a go at a project. Pretty cool I think. Apparently the heel gap isn't a problem with 22 fret neck.

It depends. In general, everything Godin makes is quality; especially for how much they cost, Seagulls are among the best value acoustics for the build quality. But they have a few drawbacks. They necks have a very wide nut width (unless you can find the "slim" model), which can be uncomfortable if you're used to playing other steel-strings, which usually narrower nuts. The tops of the S6 range are made out of cedar, which is a softer wood, so it'll accumulate scratches and dents was easier; Seagull says they pressure test them to make sure they're strong, but if you play hard, there's a decent change it'll end up looking like Willie Nelson's guitar. A few years ago, they also changed the scale lengths on most Seagull models. They used to all be short-scale (IIRC, 24.8"), and now they're all standard (25.5"). I don't like what it did to the sound of them. I used to really like how the S6s sounded, but now they sound too harsh and bright to me (but that's just me - a lot of people still like them).

See if you can find one and play it. If you like the feel and sound and can live with the cedar top, go for it.

Correcting the poorly phrased question: what are some mid range guitar models that have natural wood finishes? Something like this ESP H-401.

I think it looks really noice but it seems the natural finish is a lot more popular on basses than electric guitars.

Well, it's not like i can't empathize. When i started playing guitar (not implying you're a beginner) i pretty much just put reverb on everything i played because it sounded wide and atmospheric, but often times it actually makes it sound pretty flat and boring.

Reverb, imo, only works when it's juxtaposed with very direct sounds, hence why Tim Heckers music is so effective. It's drony and atmospheric but has these harsh stabs that enhance the atmosphere.

Anyways, i'd suggest trying out other effects and i think it would actually sound great and not like Buckethead

If you have a bass and a guitar, then why would you want to learn bass instead of guitar? Bass is the kind of instrument you play if someone else in your band is already playing guitar desu.

Not saying that bass takes no skill, i for one can't deal with the fact that i constantly have to mute the string i played before with my finger

Okay so I spent a fucking year trying to figure this out but ultimately it's
>Use octaves to figure out where all the notes are on the guitar
>Surprise they all form a pattern
>Learn modes they are a formula for notes on the fretboard that we have mapped out as scales
>Surprise we can use some motherfucking octaves to get it
>Well how do you sound good now?
>Start learning songs by ear
>Pay attention to how your keep rhythm in your right hand
>Practice being able to jump into a temp with a metronome
>Slowly build up so you can get creative with it naturally

Wanna get real good kid? Learn chords and how to solo over them fast and learn the good ol blues so you can steal riffs and after you embellish your self masturbation. That whole thing about CAGED is because those notes make most of the notes on the fretboard even better you can play it in C Major the most friendly way to start feeling your guitar pussy up.

Drums steal the show on that clip, the guitar is more like an excuse for the drums to go ham. Rad stuff

I'd add another guitar playing hooks on top to make it more interesting melodically. Or a vocalist, but then you get too close to sounding like whiny post-hardcore. Unless you're into that

Okay so if you want to learn all the notes on the neck and make riffs while doing so use octaves. Lets take a specific note we're going to use C.
>Notes on guitar for C
>B-1 fret
>A-3 fret
>G-6 fret
>e-8fret
>E-8fret
>G-10fret
It repeats after the 12th fret use this pattern with all notes to memorize notes and be able to build chords so you're not just playing scales. Learn to build your chords up and believe it or not tempo plays a big factor in how something will sound I recommend playing by ear.

So you know your scales well believe it or not if you learn the C major scale once and figure where the position for that note starts using our octave patterns you can then slightly tweak our scales by implementing modes by learning these modes we have more free reign of what we want to do with our playing however it is important to learn your intervals so you can chord build and learn how to solo over chords. I expect you to jerk me off now.

The thing about it though is it has a very specific sound thanks to the tone knobs it uses. You wouldn't be able to replicate it unless you did a serious frankenguitar project. You'd need to strip the guts and figure out how to work the knobs on whatever custom pick guard you need.
>>
>>75179682
Try putting Jazzmaster pickups in a Tele. The neck pickup isn't a super uncommon Tele mod, at least.

>>75179944
>t has a very specific sound thanks to the tone knobs it uses.
You're really overstating the importance of the Jazzmaster's controls. Most people don't even use the rhythm circuit, it's presence doesn't do anything to the sound of the guitar except giving you a dark sound you can pre-set. Other than that, the controls are just a volume and tone; yeah, the pot values are a little weird, but it's not hard to change pots.

First time coming across this. Full range flat response, meaning it won't color the sound the way a normal guitar cabinet would, right? Sounds like you need to use a cabinet impulse response to make it sound right, otherwise it's just going to push out the thin buzzy sound of the amps by themselves. And if you were doing all that, maybe you just had some shitty settings. I've heard people make that fancy digital gear sound like absolute ass when they don't know what they're doing, thinking the price tag alone will make them sound good
>>
>>75181273
>Sounds like you need to use a cabinet impulse response to make it sound right

>>
https://youtu.be/UgC8GCNxmdA?t=68

How do I get this clean distortion sound?

You can't hear any noises, only clean sound with a little distortion when picked.
It sounds to me like compresor+amp+noise gate (in the loop). Or maybe noise gate+amp only. Or distortion pedal+clean amp+noise gate.
>>
>>75181367
That's not clean.

Message him and ask him. Make sure you're complimentary, he'll eat it up.
>>

Really? I thought it just captured amp sounds and you had to use some other thing for cabinet IRs, I guess it's just a misconception because the couple demos I've seen were dudes running it to an actual cab and another using it with Two Notes IR.

Hey anons. I've been playing guitar for a few years now, almost exclusively fingerstyle and classical. I've had a recent interest in trying out electric, only thing is I have 0 knowledge about it. So it's a decision of what kind of pickups you're going to want in your guitar I highly recommend you look at a couple of videos of the aftermarket pickups, body for play style but that doesn't matter too much, a good amp which does matter, and using a good OD pedal.

Anybody know anything about these? It's a Novanex Automatic presumably from the 70's or so. It's for sale in my area for like 35 bucks. It's a 220v

reminds me of my first amp. it was a FAL Merlin combo with a deteriorating speaker and a spring reverb that put me off spring reverbs for life. it was fucking disgusting.

Does anyone in here actually play guitar? Like... as if their life depended on it? You're in the wild hunting deer, you're gonna be using your mind as if your life depended. Survival mode.

2017 = the day of pussies. Nobody tries at anything anymore. That's why y'all suck dick at life. Y'all pussies.

Does anyone in here actually have the balls to make something out of their life? To be the best? Or do you all like being lazy and talentless? Do you enjoy spending all day on faggot internet sites?

I never see keyboard threads on any boards.

I want to buy one but there are too many options. I'd like to get an old rhodes and could afford one but chances are there is cheaper, newer option. I would just buy a piano if my apartment could accommodate one.

I care more about the action than the sound to be honest.

I'm asking are there any humans on this website with the courage and skill to actually make it big or are you all just a bunch of faggots that won't amount to anything in life except wasting resources for the intelligent and able.

>200$ Crestwood Pbass, I still own it to this very day.

>Update
It appears that I never actually had a problem clearing the strings. The issue was occasionally playing a staccato note, resulting in a sweepish kind of sound. Holding my index down and then not rolling my pinky barre seems to have fixed it. (We'll see. I'll play more later.) Next time, I'll just record myself and slow it down.
>>
I'm getting an issue with one of my guitars(Fender Tele American special) where fretting a string normally(mostly the three high strings) is causing a slight bend that makes it sound like ass. The strings are quite old but I've never had this issue on any of my other guitars or this one until the other day so it has me quite worried. Any advice?
>>
>>75183915

Um, why didn't you start a keyboard thread? Takes just a much effort and you reach more people. You just need a photo for your post.

Yes anon, you throw it until the guitar learns to stop fucking up.

when all these other youngesters grow up they will realize, as every other grown man of a bass player has, that a fender p bass with sunburst finish, tortise shell pick gaurd and a rosewood fingerboard is the best looking bass ever crafted.
>>
>>75184520

Sunburst is for faggots. Blacked out with a maple neck is proper.
>>
>>75184520
sunburst is so boring though

Why the hell is restringing a guitar so hard? Every time I try to do it I can mostly get the string to stay on, but there's only about 1 full wrap around the post and sometimes the string is sort of loose around the post. Any tips for being restringing? I've watched tons of YouTube videos and nothing seems to help.
>>
>>75184596
the specific combination of sunburst p bass with tortise shell and rosewood is literally the most timeless form of badassery that you can have in a bass. it is the favorite old white dudes in country or southern rock bands that still smoke on stage even though they arent supposed to and big fuggin black guys that always play so smooth it sounds likke they are currently getting their dick sucked. even roger waters looks cooler with one then with the blacked out and maple (which other then not looking as good, sounds bad) he usually plays.

Guitar: Yamaha RGX 121D
Bass: Washburn XS4.

Don't have either now. They were both cheap but overall fairly good for the money, it was harder to get playable cheap instruments back in the day.
