if you just pick a bunch of albums from /mu/core chart to put in your chart then why don't just post the /mu/core chart itself?
>>
One day I'll have a top 50
>>
>>74912993
>its a "your-favorite-albums-are-on-the-mucore-chart-so-you're-a-pleb" poster
im not forcing myself to put some obscure albums on the chart just because they don't happen to be on the /mu/core chart
and btw most albums on that chart are universally acclaimed so the idea that people who like those albums must have heard them because of /mu/ is idiotic
>>
>>74913050
>im not forcing myself to put some obscure albums on the chart just because they don't happen to be on the /mu/core chart
you don't get it
there's no reason to post your chart if your taste is so shallow
if you want recs just look into the /mu/core chart
>most albums on that chart are universally acclaimed so the idea that people who like those albums must have heard them because of /mu/ is idiotic
sure but not in your case
how it happened that only two of those albums are not on /mu/core (one of which is /mu/core anyway)?
>>
>>74913203
>there's no reason to post your chart if your taste is so shallow
there is no such thing as "shallow" taste
there is only subjective taste of the individual
that taste will inevitably be influenced by recommendations of other people (such as irl friends or internet forums/communities)

shallow is just a label that pretentious people like to put on other people's taste to seem superior
>>
>>74912993
Fuck off stupid snob
>>
>>74913260

your taste is objectively /mu/core (see:shallow)

Parachutes is really undermined by the meme status of the band, but it really is a nice cosy little pop rock album. I recommend you check out James - Pleased To Meet You, it's an LP in a similar vain.

No one can ever come up with a good reason as to why someone has to explore more music just because what they like so far is known and/or acclaimed. It's just a pissing contest.

OP likes what he's found so far so he wants to discuss it and pprobably find more.

>>
>>74916125
>>74916125
I didn't say they were bad. It's ok to have a couple /mu/ essentials on your chart. But when your entire chart is filled with /mu/ essentials, it just makes you look like a drone with no taste. Why? Because everyone's already heard them. Just because it's on /mu/ essentials, doesn't automatically make it good. Your taste is supposed to evolve. Some albums on there you will come to realize, aren't even that special or good. It's supposed to be a foundation for your taste.
>>
>>74916286
>telling other people what their taste is supposed to be like

I get what you're saying, but I disagree with the drone sentiment. Music has been a huge hobby for me for over 10 years but my tastes "evolve" very slowly compared to this board. I am only at about 5500 songs after all these years (have deleted probably 1000 or more) and I still don't remember how much I liked a lot of the shit in my library. A lot of shit I like is "basic" and "/mu/core" despite being on /mu/ for 4 years or so, in addition to discovering music on my own long before that. I don't take any reviews seriously or even pay attention to them. There are still way too many "entry-level" things I haven't heard that I would probably really like. I guess my point is just that everyone listens to music at a different pace, for different reasons, likes different things, etc. It should be no surprise or knock that well known albums are seen a lot.

I'll even give you some personal favorites:
Ecstasy of St. Theresa - Susurrate
Medicine - Shot Forth Self Living
The Verve EP
Starflyer 59 - Gold

I don't wish to be disapproving of your preferences though it would be essential to try a lot of the /mu/ essentials and branch out from there, its rather difficult to tell what you'd enjoy at the moment you see. Enjoy your day anon!

>>74919382
I would like to say that I in some respects admire your chart, usually posters are not so keen to admit their preference towards an album that is more accessible/ popular than any other release from an artist (in reference to The Clash and Broken Social Scene). I'm willing to bet that you've been on /mu/ for around two years and are starting to develop your own ventures into different sub-genres, likely used the shoegaze flowchart to bed yourself into the sub-genre. Try the following;
>Amurekimuri - s/t. (50 mins. Dream pop/ Shoegaze w/ heavy chamber pop influence). Sample: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dMZX_dmbVGA
>Galaxie 500 - Today. (41 mins. Slowcore/ Dream pop/ Indie pop). Sample: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2_-YtUNmG80
Hope your day goes well!.

>>74920343
If you have not tried the Butthole Surfers then certainly try their discography in chronological order. Kurt Cobain was a huge fan and listed their s/t and Locust Abortion Technician among his top 50 albums. Have a nice day!

>>74919810
I bet you're a brilliant person who has undeniable potential in life though consistently beats them-selves up over their past experiences under the belief that they could be far better. Whilst that may be true you should always be supportive of yourself and I hope that you find happiness down the line, here's a gentle hug *hug* and as for a recommendation, try;
>Drudkh - Autumn Aurora. (41 mins. Atmospheric black metal/ Pagan metal/ Folk metal). Sample: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Yf3eyXhlwg

>>74919843
Its not a brilliant record though the first Pulp album (It) bears quite a similar sound to The Smiths and may surprise you on first listen, even if it is not as compelling or well-written. Have a nice day!

I'll admit it was mostly based on personal experience, and when I say the combination of Kinokoteitoku, Pinkshinyultrablast and especially the Depreciation Guild I was fairly convinced that you used the chart. That being said I'd say you've probably gotten further than me on such; I have yet to try the Depreciation Guild and Pinkshinyultrablast though are really looking forward to the former. There seems to be a sort of domino effect as people develop their own preferences, usually resulting in the risk of overrating the more niche albums out there - safe to say it doesn't seem that you've succumbed to such yet and I have to say I respect you for it. I haven't posted a chart yet, guess I'm getting kinda lazy these days. Honestly been finding it more fun looking at others and picking stuff off of them.

>>74920637
Don't worry anon, you have a vast array of sub-genres to explore and a ton of material to look forward to, for now I'd most certainly recommend the following;
>Fela Kuti - Zombie. (38 mins. Afrobeat/ Jazz funk). Sample: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qj5x6pbJMyU. It should be noted that Fela Kuti was an enormous influence on Remain in Light and Talking Heads in general.
>Iggy Pop - The Idiot. (38 mins. Art rock/ Post-punk). Sample: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9BBAEUOOFKQ. As some degree of trivia it should be noted that the album was released on the same year as Low and was largely produced by Bowie with huge song-writing contributions from him too, that and he handled most of the instrumentation making this more of a collaboration album in essence. China Girl was also later covered by Bowie to give royalties to Pop when the latter was in poor financial condition, hence why there are two versions of the song.

>>74920703
If you haven't already tried them then The Flaming Lips are practically essential and you'd likely love them, I wouldn't recommend their releases past The Terror though otherwise you can select any album to start with.

>>74915283
I'm sad nobody noticed Darkdancer yet.

They are both really good, but I haven't actually used the chart for those. I saw pinkshinyultrablast on a last fm recommendation and the depreciation guild same thing. I did use that chart for things like lush and shit like that. I stopped looking at charts recently not because i think im better than them but because its easier to look at recommendations then to follow a chart. Again thank you for the recommendations, and if you do make a chart ill give you some recs and rate it. :)

Pretty surface level, although it spans a diverse area so I have potential to go deeper into a lot of genres when I take the dedicated time.

I used to really love that In Flames album, haven't listened to it in a while.

Blind Guardian - Nightfall in Middle Earth
At the Gates - Slaughter of the Soul
Atheist - Unquestionable Presence
>>
>>74913908

>>
>>74923160
slaughter of the soul is one I've been putting off for ages so I'll listen to that after I finish this album I'm on now

I've also heard good things about blind guardian so I'll be sure to check them out

which in flames album though? I assume the jester race (which I have up there because it's a really important album in the influence of melodeath which I love) but honestly I might think I prefer clayman more because that album was what got me into metal, hearing only for the weak for the first time kinda blew my mind and I was like "wow there's a lot of good metal besides avenged sevenfold and disturbed"

Its perfectly fine anon, I'd personally recommend the following;
>A Thousand Hours - Sleep. (38 mins. Dream pop/ Shoegaze). Sample: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nNZrz6RAGdA. Heavily influenced by Cocteau Twins.
>Xiu Xiu - Knife Play. (43 mins. Experimental rock/ Synthpunk/ Noise pop). Sample: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RMZdr6tB3Uw
Enjoy the rest of the night whilst it lasts!

>>74922405
I'd personally recommend the following;
>Bubu - Anabelas. (40 mins. Progressive rock/ Jazz rock). Sample: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-5pmx5tZ-80
>Šarlo Akrobata - Bistriji ili tuplji čovek biva kad... (37 mins. Art punk/ New wave/ Experimental rock). Sample: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0JKof3rBjOY&list=PLd-UjhGOzGd71OE_KkFEAIaRsuigaJpGL&index=2
Hope you have a nice night!

>>74922504
I'd recommend using the /mu/essentials chart to start off with, otherwise its near impossible to decipher your preferences and make a decent recommendation based on such.

>>74922656
Always the best way to go, try;
>Nokturnal Mortum - Гoлoc cтaлi. (70 mins. Folk metal/ Pagan black metal). Sample: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A9c0VXgDi7E
Sleep tight and get cozy!

>>74922911
Don't take this the wrong way but if we're going down the edgy route then you owe it to yourself to listen through Nine Inch Nail's discography. And given that Modest Mouse have been recently touring with Brand New and have quite a sizable following on this board they would also be a great choice for new music.
Have a nice night!

I'd agree with you, except Jotun is such a god tier song that it instantly puts Whoracle to first place among In Flames albums for me.
In Flames is one of those bands where I enjoy all their albums immensely though, so it's hard to decide. Also Soundtrack To Your Escape is underrated.

Also this guy's >>74923160 recs are on point, I'll add 5 Star Grave and Stone Gods to that.
>>
>>74923369
Same here. I'm glad I was around here through the golden age of sharebreads
>>
>>74923375
YES jotun is my absolute favourite in flames song, and metal song in general actually, I hope to see them perform it live before I die but I highly doubt that's going to happen

I mostly like up through reroute, with bits on random songs after that, come clarity had some good stuff on it and so did a sense of purpose, and I really liked battles overall, but other than that they've been really missing their mark spred around there

I saw them back in december and they put on a fantastic show, I just with they played something older than only for the weak and bullet ride but can't win them all

I would recommend the following;
>Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works 85-92. (74 mins. Ambient techno/ IDM). Sample: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q0q1gCsZykg (pronounced "crystal" by the way).
>Cloud Nothings - Attack on Memory. (33 mins. Post-hardcore/ Indie rock/ Midwest emo). Sample: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JIitQNXVgb8
Sleep tight anon!

>>74923524
Try the following;
>Blur - 13. (66 mins. Alternative rock/ Art rock/ Indie rock/ Trip-hop). Sample: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FYF2rhxLeAU. If you are unfamiliar with Blur then I would highly recommend trying their discography, though note that there is a huge turning point after Great Escape where the band ventures more towards finding their own sound as opposed to riding trends (and keeping pretty on top of them at that), not to disparage their britpop material though everything after comes with more flair and originality in mind, even if some may accuse them of ripping off Pavement on their self-titled.
>Chapterhouse - Whirlpool. (39 mins. Shoegaze/ Dream pop). Sample: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5PsN_DfnHQU
Have a great night anon!
>>
>>74923585
>Jotun
>Dead Eternity
>Only for the weak
>Behind Space (either the original or '99 I can't really decide because they're great in their own regards)
>Gyroscope

I do like the older style a lot more but I hate seeing "metalheads" whine about how their style changed so much, they're artists and that's just how their sound evolved so it's not like you have to stop appreciating the old stuff

all those on your list are great though, clayman, trigger and dialogue with the stars are a few more of my faves along with cloud connected, alias, bullet ride, embody the invisible and moonshield

their old stuff was just so solidly consistent and I love it so much

second time making a chart ever... order is not super important, kinda grouped things together that i could. also don't really care about reccs, i just made one and might as well post it. groovy beats and music that combines electronic and live instruments well are what give me a boner

I wouldn't concern yourself with that anon, I'm confident in assuming that at least half of the board has experienced that. Truth is that you will spend your first year-year and a half on this board wondering how you will ever delve into the obscure as the "required listening" for this board is generally very great in magnitude. After you've tried most of the /mu/essentials though you start to find it very easy to branch out and discover artists as you have a far better idea as to what you are looking for. I hope that you enjoy the day. I'd recommend the following;
>Alcest - Souvernirs d'un autre monde. (41 mins. Shoegaze/ Post-rock/ Blackgaze). Sample: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4PmCb9OiFYQ
>Siouxsie and The Banshees - The Scream. (45 mins. Post-punk/ Gothic rock/ Punk rock). Sample: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y-l9GQJRl9Y

>>74924540
Given your active participation its a shame more people haven't replied to your post, you're a good person anon! I'd recommend the following;

I'm extremely confident that you browse or have previously browsed Reddit and are likely either underage or in your late teens (do not take this the wrong way, though based on experience you can usually tell these things). I'd personally recommend the following;
>Cloud Nothings - Attack on Memory. (33 mins. Post-hardcore/ Indie rock/ Midwest emo). Sample: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JIitQNXVgb8
>Ought - Sun Coming Down. (40 mins. Post-punk/ Art punk). Sample: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fEQyi6eCxWw
>>Wolf Parade - Apologies to The Queen Mary. (47 mins. Indie rock). Sample: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6tTgqxkocf8
I should note that Wolf Parade were signed to Sub-pop after having been scouted by Modest Mouse front-man Isaac Brock. I'd imagine that you would love them. Have a nice day anon!

Anon, if your girlfriend has taste this varied & you love her, she's a keeper. It's rare that a woman has taste this interesting. I've been dating again for like a year and a half and if I hear "country and rap" one more fucking time I'm gonna lose it. "I like everything except country and rap" actually became a meme for me and right around the same time I saw it pop up on 4chan. Go figure

Hello Anon!.jpg

>>74940211
No offense though you really do not need to justify your taste with the "so long as I'm enjoying myself" line. Frankly anyone who frequents these threads has heard that innumerably and I don't think anyone consciously goes out of the way to listen to music that they know they will not like. It seems you are missing the point of these threads to be honest with you - they aren't that much about judging people and critiquing their choices as much as they are recommending albums/ artists based on each-others preferences; this can be relatively undermined by those who haven't explored any sub-genres or made an effort to experiment more with their preferences thereby making recommendations hard to give. You're chart is awkward to work with as it jumps between sample-based hip-hop and alternative rock with little else to expand on. This nonetheless makes it easy for people to simply say "listen to more alternative rock" or "listen to more hip-hop" rather than point out specific artists who you might enjoy or provide you with fresh insight into other areas that you may prefer in the long-term. If you were to use the /mu/essentials chart you would thus gain a better understanding of what you enjoy whilst simultaneously making it easier for us to find material that you may enjoy. Still, if I were going to give recommendations then I would suggest the following;
>Filter - Short Bus. (46 mins. Alternative rock/ Industrial rock/ Alternative metal). Sample: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I3yvFmi_q1M
>The Unstable Molecule - Isotope 217. (31 mins. Jazz fusion/ Experimental rock). Sample: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oTN01WW9Vag
Have a nice day!

>>74940631
I'd recommend the following;
>The Police - Synchronicity. (44 mins. New wave/ Pop rock). Sample: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OMOGaugKpzs
>Tortoise - Millions Now Living Will Never Die. (43 mins. Post-rock/ Experimental rock). Sample: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lYatqE7OA1Q
Have a nice day!
>>
>>74940211
