Why wasn't he a superstar? The guy's pretty handsome, has a fantastic Chris Cornell-meets-Daryl Hall voice, is an instrumental virtuoso and is a very solid writer in multiple genres, from Hall and Oates-type pop soul to jazz fusion wank to SRV and Gary Moore-esque blueshammer. Is it because of the fact that he originally comes from an '80s metal background and never really escape that stigma?

serious question /gg/

i wanna practice my dexterity, but i despise classical pieces and rock is basically power chords.

the closest thing to what i'm looking for that i've seen so far is nick drake, his songs are super fun to practice and not as overly detailed as classical pieces

are there any artists who use the guitar somewhat like nick drake?

You're better off hooking up your guitar to your PC and using a virtual amp, putting some better pickups in your jackson, and having it set up by a good guitar tech. Don't get sucked into gear obsession.

t. money saving pro
>>
>>74812129
I only use guitars whose volume knobs go to 11.
>>
>>74812291
You need to have good humbuckers on your guitar. If your Jackson is good it should already have Seymour Duncan pickups or perhaps EMGs. But if they are just knockoff design pickups it means you need to buy your own. It's not that expensive though and easy to install.

Most interfaces have DIs for instrument-line level, or a setting.
Make sure yours is set to this.
If it's still quiet and you have all this and checked I/Os, try a DI, preamp, or mic it.

I was being facetious to a degree. You can play what sells aka something that's already been done before and appeal to the lowest common denominator. Some examples? Indie pop, smooth "jazz", blues rock cover bands, etc.

Mary Halvorson really isn't a non-technical player though. Her style is more angular and she basically plays stacatto all the time but she definitely has the proficiency to pull off exactly what she wants to play. Try playing some of her music some time, it's more complex than it seems.

It's hard to say because personally I don't like that kind of music too much. But if you get it right it can be successful. Take a look at this link and see how all the songs are all kind of similar.
